Gull Peeper hacks up chunks of bone and leans against the cave wall. "Anything else in here with you, lady?" they ask.
Thought I posted here, sorry to see that I hadn't. Been gone helping the in laws move up north, back and ready now; will catch up on reading and post in the next couple days. Thanks for the patience.
Gull Peeper prods Pril, crouched low. "You okay, gnome? Need healing?"
"Elfs not good for munching, bones too small," Gull Peeper murmurs, not following the thread of the conversation. They spend the night at the tavern, drinking away, and make sure to find the goblin what sent them on this quest to assure her that the Bumblebrashers are safe- for the most part.
It takes a moment, but Gull Peeper's handed down skills aren't so rusty as they seem.
Unable to get into the ruckus, Gull Peeper throws a dagger over Big Bumble Brunyarth and into the undead.
The toothy and dexterous goblin catches a nail with its teeth, spitting it out and redoubling its assault against the floating head.
Gull Peeper gets their teeth around one of them, chomping on down angrily.
If they pass back through the rooms with the sarcophagi, Gull Peeper examines them to see if they've been tampered with in any way.
"Getting free things just a bonus," Gull Peeper shakes their head. "Practicality and caution main reason." The goblin lifts its hat/wig up off its head and scratches their bald scalp, curious. "Could ash-prints have been mean man on the rooftops?"
"This why Gull Peeper wanted to open coffins," they grouse, nervously approaching the skellingtons, "make sure bodies still where they supposed to be."
Gull Peeper sniffs at Big Bumble, curious. "Glad you not dead," they noncommittally mumble towards what is either the bear or the ranger. "South feels better to me," they say, scratching a long ear.
Gull Peeper scampers over on all fours and onto the couch, taking two big chomps out of a simian.
Pril, I think I've had worse luck with the dice than you so far. I believe I've hit three times?
Nervous, Gull Peeper scampers forth and lashes out at the beast with a stab, not wanting frog in their mouth.
Gull Peeper becomes entranced by the display of feathers, and in shielding their eyes, loses track entirely of the battle.
Rogue (Thief) 2 +11 HP, +1 to everything, Acrobatics increases to Expert (for flavor more than anything else), new feats: Intimidating Glare and Mobility.
Gull Peeper looks at the baby warg and at the offering gnome querulously, not used to being trusted with decisions like this. After a short period of silence, the goblin mutters, "Small Peeper," and scatters, nervous. --- The goblin reaches up to try and smack Allandír, furious. "You stop it! You evil, insensitive elf man! Yes, Bumblebrashers mess up, kidnap bear is f%!&ed up thing to do, but you do not threaten to set bear on people, even if they were," the ex-acrobat side-eyes the chief, "unwise enough to do such a thing. We supposed to be heroes. We help people. Not put big teeth warglet in someone's face and say 'I would like to eat you.' You are a bad person and you need an attitude adjustment." They stand back and catch their breath. "All day you been whining, I just stand back and listen, but I cannot watch you threaten my kinsmen with death and not intercede. I hate you, but someone needs to rein you in. Separate yourself and cool off. Ugly, broken thing that you are." Shifting their weight, the goblin looks away from the elf, fully expecting to be murdered by the evil man and go undefended, unavenged. "Gull Peeper apologize for slapping you. How about we free bear and Bumblebrashers promise to be nicer and more considerate in the future?"
Gull Peeper defends the puppies, dreadfully jealous of the fact that they have no warglet of their own.
Gull Peeper scoffs at the elf's threat, his anger having lost meaning. "Gull Peeper not need discuss anything with elf, knows broken elf will only respond with unkindness and hostility, never thinking of goblins as people, so why should I engage? Probably only lead to you insulting me, threatening violence against goblins unchecked, because only one of you here see goblins as people. But I'll play. Gull Peeper plays. Why would this anger you? Why not burn these books? What use would goblins find for books? Goblins do not believe in reading, and have no need for writing, live short lives and keep complex oral history. Books worthless as pasttime, too, goblins prefer other forms of storytelling such as theater, songs and improv comedy. If goblins not burn books, by now they simply rot away, this way they find use and appreciation. Fire keep us alive, also is fun. Life is more important than books." They grumble and continue scouting on ahead. --- Gull Peeper watches the skeletons curiously, unsure how to initially react. No dead body had ever walked at the circus. This was, weird.
"Goblins have no need for library. Books served purpose, likely served as kindling for many years, kept Bumblebrashers warm." Gull Peeper keeps a wary eye out as they move forward, looking for traps.
Gull Peeper continues biting and stabbing unhindered by the jaws around them, swearing and cursing all the while. Tho they try to wriggle out, their tiny frame remains between the warg's huge teeth.
Gull Peeper wistfully looks on at the warglets, wanting the responsibility of pet ownership but too depressed and hungover to say anything about it at the moment. However, when the warg father shows up, they do not keep their mouth shut, rather, they bite: hard. Flanking the beast, they sink their teeth deep into a vulnerable spot, growling all the while.
Gull Peeper's Lonely Night Out:
The goblin spends their night at the fortress, milling about and kicking bricks and shoving things into their mouth and drinking goblin brews. They didn't have much in common with other goblins, growing up in the circus. Gull Peeper tries to join in on singing goblinsongs and telling jokes and stories, but fails entirely to find an audience.
They should have gone back to the town, fell asleep in the dish pit, drinking and telling tall tales to Nell Harlow. Gull Peeper doubts very much anyone even told Warbal her Bumblebrashers were safe, they could have done that at least. Nobody cares about goblins, and none of these few called to serve were heroes, excepting maybe Nell Harlow. They did not care about those they were protecting, they would just save the fort and then give it back to bad, boring HeckKnights. That would not do, nope. Gull Peeper would need to stick with them, keep them apprised of their promises. Drunk and sad, the goblin throws shingles and rocks at the pond where the big dinocroc was living. They wished they could run back to the circus, find Null, and go back to being a duo again, back to when life had meaning, even if meaning was just do spinny tricks with their teeth and swindle unsuspecting tall folk. They curl up and sleep on a lonely corner of the rooftop, alone. The Cardinal bows his head briefly at the sight of the dismantled courtroom. "This was truly a place of law. Perhaps if the fortress is cleansed then it can be again." He says solemnly, before stepping closer to examine the corpse. Gull Peeper skulks forth beside Lucius, upper lip curled in a sneer. "Perhaps when fortress is cleansed it will stay with the goblins who love it very much," they grumble. As the spiky corpse turtles emerge from the water, Gull Peeper needs little convincing to protect the Cardinal, lashing out with their dagger.
"These not goblins, ugly elf," they shout, "pointy turtles! Maybe you need glasses!"
"I guess I should be relieved to know that hypocrisy isn't just a failing of big-folk," Prill grumbles with an eye towards Gull Peeper and the lethal assault. "Halfling threaten goblin," explains Gull Peeper, confident in their reasoning. "In what possible sense is it your home?!" Allandír tries but fails to conceal his annoyance. "You didn't build it, you don't have legal title to it, you surely didn't buy it... you merely squat there because nobody has bothered to evict you. Until now. And even then, you're reliant on someone else to take it back because you lack the capability to do it for yourselves." He looks exasperated. "How can it possibly be considered to be yours, in any sense?" The goblin's hat and wig both sink as they lower their ears in a threatening stance once more, but the situation is quickly leveled out by the more rationally minded Heroes. They stay behind, spending the night with the goblins and keeping an eye on the elf and their artwork. "Nell Harlow is mistaken. You draw bad," critiques the goblin.
Gull Peeper surges across the rooftop, knife in hand, stopping on the opposite side of the halfling and blocking his exit with a growl. They lunge for the man's neck with their teeth and thrust their knife into his stomach, no attempt made to pull back and take him alive.
As Allandír stumbles at the bottom of the rope, Gull Peeper literally bumps into him in their own eagerness to climb. They hiss at the elf as he climbs the rope, following shortly behind.
The goblin skulks around from shadow to shadow, drawing a dagger and flanking the crocodilian with the Hellknight.
"And Gull Peeper has only lived some eight years. You tall folk talk much of how time goes fast, and there is never enough of it. Goblins know this better than any other, oldest goblin Gull Peeper ever met only 45. Ugly elf hate goblins because of war, twenty years ago? Most goblins die before two decades have even passed. His blame is misplaced, lost on a dead and forgotten generation." They trudge forward through the garbage, flipping interesting bits over now and again, but sullenly moving forward regardless, ignoring the comments about how the place has been mistreated and the lack of respect shown to it. No, they were wrong. The building was loved and treasured; if it wasn't there would be a great deal less trash everywhere. A goblin in need could curl up anywhere inside and find comfort. "Yes," Gull Peeper confirms, listening in. "This time we try diplomacy, accomplish both objectives easier if everyone not dead."
"The town of Breachhill has sent us in to investigate the lack of communication with the local goblin tribe, and if necessary, rescue them," Gull Peeper growls. "They live here."
Gull Peeper rushes in and introduces an imp to their teeth!
"Oh, I'm nothing compared to my old partner. Null Peeper, now that was a goblin. Null taught me lots, and Gull taught Null lots, too, but I was always better with the jump-stunts, and they were always better with hand-things."
Gull Peeper grumbles as they check over the secret door.
Gull Peeper places their hand on the half elf's shoulder. "You are not responsible for hairy goblin's death, Nell Harlow. Bugbear attacked, you defended yourself. If they had fallen in combat, the weight of their soul would still not be upon you. You are willing to show mercy, and that makes you strong."
The goblin looks over the southern door and enters through it.
Personally, I'd like to take the farthest west.
Gull Peeper narrows their eyes, ears flattening in a quiet display of threat and anger. "There is nothing about you that is good. None you meet will show you love, for you deserve none."
"No, not a killer, only kill goblins," Gull Peeper sneers and spits, checking the doors before heading down the next hall. "Next time we fight a goblin and it lies there, defeated, let us talk to it before you murder someone else."
The goblin grits their teeth and painfully breathes out a reply. "I am not taking issue with taking necessary actions to defend ourselves. But Gull Peeper would have preferred if we tied up the bugbear and interrogated them. We are strangers here, have no guarantee that dead, hairy goblin were not part of this tribe. Would have appreciated knowing for certain before pushing knife through skull." They distribute the flasks of holy water to the Cardinal-Banker.
Gull Peeper bares their sharp teeth once more, sucking in air between their teeth. "Do not doubt me, killer. Gull Peeper promised Warbal they help, so help I shall. But can you promise not to slaughter every last civilian in your quest to save them? Probably not. Broken elf probably too concerned that a child's teeth too sharp, should kill it so it doesn't cut him open when it bites him."
Gull Peeper spits and snarls as Allandír stabs the unconscious woman in the head, baring their teeth. "I think you are forgetting, we are here to help goblins, not murder them. This one attacked us, true, but now we have no opportunity to interrogate her, to learn what is up ahead." They skulk forward, grumbling all the while.
Gull Peeper leads the way, checking high and low for traps.
"Goblin dogs. Without their rider, they wish us no harm. If you are hairy, resist the urge to give the thing a good pat or scratching. They carry mange." Gull Peeper weasels their way inside and allows the ratdogs the chance to get in a good sniff.
"I am without worship," croaks the goblin as they walk. "Was raised to fear Monster Mother, but Butterfly Queen was big at the circus. These days, find myself leaning more toward Space Butterfly than Jackal Lady, but never really a big fan of musicals, and Sound of Spheres be worst offender. Gull Peeper likes singing plenty, but like singing to have more purpose than exposition." They crest a hill and dramatically place one foot on a rock, leaning forward into the wind. "Goblinsong good for driving plot forward and striking fear in hearts of the enemy."
Gull Peeper flashes Allandír a dirty look but, for the moment, bites their tongue.
Gull Peeper doffs their hat/wig, presses it against their chest and bows low. "Gull Peeper has already pledged my services to the lady Warbal. Goblins, we stand together."
The goblin rushes forth and tosses their bucket as best they can before returning to grab more buckets.
Gull Peeper throws their bucket on the flames, grabs the one placed down by Lucius and returns.
Gull Peeper dashes to the door and carries a bucket up the steps towards the fire. They point to the creepy elf and start shouting orders. "Fast and ugly man! Use your speed, bring us buckets! Let us use our heads, and work together."
