Funny story - when I played this in classic mode, I brought a PC with a monkey familiar, not realizing the theme of the adventure. In attempting to aid another on the handle animal to appease the monkeys, my monkey rolled a natural 1, which with it's -3 charisma bonus is a total of -2. I described it as my monkey trying to help, but getting so annoyed with the other monkeys that his human companion had to stop him from flinging poo at the outside monkeys.

Worst. Charisma check. Ever.

When we reach the clearing, and the Baron gives instructions, Groo follows them diligently.

"If this tiger is so tough, at least one of us should be with the Baron, to protect him if necessary."

He then takes up a position next to the Baron, but also overlooking the dead animal, to get a clear shot with his javelins.

Groosalugg will try to bolster the count's morale with kind words and relatively obvious advice about combat, since he doesn't know enough about nature or survival to know anything detailed about hunting.

Groosalugg's casual, friendly nature seems to go over well with everyone at the hunting lodge, and he lets the others know what he finds out: Other groups have gone missing in the same part of the jungle where we're headed for the tiger hunt. The locals think the monkeys may have mystical powers. And there may be competition for the ruins we're headed to explore.

Upon waking in the morning and hearing the sounds from the tent, Groosalugg rushes over, javelin drawn.

"What's going on? Is it a wild animal?"

"I've never been to Jalmeray, either. Actually, my Society missions so far have kept me on the Isle of Kortos, technically. But there was one particularly exciting adventure where we magically traveled into the deep past, while geographically staying near Absalom."

Changing the subject from the past to the future, the big man smiles just a little too widely.

"I am very much looking forward to this hunting expedition. As a follower of Kurgess, I have participated in many sporting competitions in the past, but usually only competing against other humanoids in races or javelin throwing tournaments. Hunting wild animals sounds like an exciting new adventure. What can you tell us of your past hunts, good Baron?"

Human fighter, so I already have four feats at level 2: Quick Draw, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Rapid Shot. I'm actually planning to transfer out of Core to go Standard campaign at level 4, at which point I'll start taking a bunch of feats related to thrown weapons from the Weapon Masters Handbook.

A large, muscular man enters, wearing a breastplate and a buckler, with a warhammer, longsword, dagger, and pouch on his belt, and a large bundle of javelins strapped to his back.

"Greetings, new Pathfinder friends!" he announces loudly, smiling just a little too wide to be normal. "I am Groosalugg, the brave and undefeated. As a warrior, Kurgess has gifted me with the ability to throw javelins both far and accurately, so that is where I am most effective. But if necessary, I can pull out a sword or hammer and engage with enemies up close, as well."

Non-Core consideration:
Groosalugg worships Kurgess, a non-Core deity. But because he doesn't get anything mechanical from that worship, it's legal in Core play. I double checked to be sure.

I'll be leaving for Gen Con on Wednesday morning, and not coming home until Monday, so I don't know how often I'll be able to post. And I'll be posting from a phone, so I probably won't be able to see maps or anything like that.

If you want to bot me, go ahead. When the Aspis arrive, I'll use rapid shot to throw two javelins per round against enemies within 30 feet. If they're farther than that, I'll probably move closer and only throw one javelin, to avoid stacking the -2 range penalty on top of the -2 from rapid shot. Groo sees himself as fairly heroic, so if any of his allies are in danger, he'll close to melee range to protect them. Remember, he has quick draw, so he can switch hit easily.

"You see, the Aspis have developed a new, highly addictive and debilitating drug to sell on the streets around the Inner Sea Region, and they've been testing on residents here in Diobel. We have some notes here we can show you, made by the alchemist who developed the drug, in case you don't believe us."

"We represent a group that wants to put an end to these evil activities by the Aspis. All we ask is that you leave us alone here tonight, so we can eliminate the drugs hidden in this warehouse before the Aspis can ship them all over the Inner Sea. We promise not to harm your property here - only the Aspis Consortium's merchandise. And possibly, any of their agents who come to get in our way. But we have no quarrel with you or your organization."

Can I take 10 on diplomacy? If so, then that's a 17 (plus any assists from the rest of the party).

After listening to her explanation, he responds, "So you want us to just talk to the Kortos agents and ask them to leave us be to fight the Aspis? Should we let them know about the despicable activities of the Aspis in spreading this new drug, or do you think they wouldn't care? As for the Aspis, I have no problem with fighting them if necessary to stop their evil actions."
