Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
Gimlet only sips at rum as usual. A bit more tired than usual, from his nocturnal activities the night before. He manages to stay near Rosie as the evening sets in looking perhaps for a chance to sneak off with her. Stealth to dispose of the rum -> 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29 Bluff to entertain Rosie and others with more tall stories -> 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31 Stealth to sneak off with Rosie if possible -> 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29

Late below decks: Disappointed at the contents of the box, he pockets a candle and then sets to returning everything in how it looked when he first saw it. He closes the door to the storeroom and tucks the fiddle and bow under his coat.
Stealth -> 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20 Padding back into the crew quarters, he carefully makes his way to Rosie's hammock. He gently wakes her, making sure she is not started or screams. He places the fiddle and bow in her hands and gives her a small kiss on the cheek. "Enjoy and be careful with it. Don't want too many questions on where it came from." He quietly pads to his bunk and swings into it. He takes a moment to reflect, At least one person is happy on the ship...and maybe soon, two.

In the ropes Gimlet spends the day doing his job as best he can, but he is always careful not to get too exposed on a spar or dangle from a rope where Maheem can compromise his safety. Profession Sailor on Line Work (+4 Work Diligently)-> 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 4 = 14 CON check vs Line Work -> 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 Last night below decks: Gimlet immediately reaches for the fiddle, but pauses when he sees his old coat. Its many varied (and hidden) pockets always proved so useful. He puts it on and it feels like the return of a lost friend. He hurriedly stuffs a few small items into the pockets including the nice picks...enough items to be useful, but not enough to be noticed. His friends gear he makes note of. To steal it all would be risky and way, way, way easy to notice. I must get of list of what they desire most.[i] He pulls out the fiddle, the original reason he came, but before he closes the door, the battered box catches his eye. [i]What mysteries you might contain?. He tries to open the box as his last bit of skullduggery. I would like the coat to represent my Well-Prepared feat. A sleight of hand check vs DC 10 + gp cost up to 10 gp to happen to have the item. So I won't take specific items now, just a sample that I might happen to have later, if that is ok.

Captain: Under the decks
Gimlet will start with the lockers figuring they are larger and might a fiddle uncrushed. Suspicious with the initial lock undone, he take a moment to look for any thing that might stab or sting him. Perception Locker 1 -> 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Perception Locker 2 -> 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
He will move on to the chests, the wooden trunk, and finally the metal one looking for the fiddle, but noting what he comes across as he goes. +6 to search, +6 to open if needed.

Earlier on the Deck To Ursion, "Didn't mention time, other than taking the long way around. I imagine that will be a least several days to put us to the whip to s what we are made of." He finishes with a noticeable gulp. Later with Rosie "ppphhhheeewww" Gimlet lets out a soft whistle. "Grok...Fiddle...Got it. Can't, Can't, Can't be that hard." he finishes with a smile. On his way to his berth, he tries to avoid any more hard stares from Conch. Gimlet makes his way to relieve himself in the middle of the night. He scans about to see if he might be being followed. If he feels its safe, he makes his way down to the storeroom. Perception -> 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 At the door to the quartermaster's stare, Gimlet pulls the lockpick out that had been wrapped in his rags wrapped around his feet and ankles. Disable Device -> 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
Gimlet sips at his rum, not trying to over do it. Having survived his first fight on board and having a good day in the ropes, allows him to feel comfortable enough to approach Rosie. Another sip and he steels his courage, but not so much to loose control. Stealth to hide not drinking all his rum-> 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17 Influence Rosie with stories -> 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Gimlet takes his soup and tries not to grimace while Atajay is still near him as he sips at it. "The Captain won't want to see us too roughed up. They brought us on for a reason. The word is we are in for a round a'bout cruise to give us time to sail right and then put into merchant waters for a dose of pirating."
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
In the Ropes: Gimlet is pleased to find that all of the existing members of the crew aren't out to stave in his head. "How did you end up on this tub? Did you walk aboard, or wake up in the hold like me?"
Gimlet will also inquire, "Any idea where we might be going?"

**EDIT: Coming to realize that as good as rolling two 20 would be, I think There may have been a typo as that does not look like a DICE computation, I think I missed the 'd' in d20. Profession (Sailor) -> 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Well, I guess the Dice Gods partially approve.

Gimlet spends the day swinging from the lines and walking the spars like a monkey. Having stood up to the thugs....well...helping stand up to the thugs, has given him an a better attitude about his station. Today he always takes the harder of the tasks, giving Ratline an easier time in the ropes and chatting in halfling about previous ships they have been on. Daily Task: Influence Crewmember (Ratline) HO! I am the God of Rigging. Bow down to my Topsail Mastery!
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
Gimlet scoots over quickly to rejoin his new comrades. Surprised at himself for getting involved and taking a swing (next time he will try it with his eyes open). But even prouder for not getting himself pummeled. He almost felt like extolling in victory, but bit his tongue. That can wait till we get clear from this mob. That will be Gimlets response either way. Quick to back down in the face of reduced hostilities, but others can feel free to press if that is their wish.
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
Rnd 2 Seeing Raven in a bit of a tight spot, Gimlet ducks to take up position behind Maheem. not worrying about AoO as no one is armed. Move to F-3. Hoping no one notices, he kicks at the back of Maheem's knee. Inspired Craven Flanking Sneak Attack -> 1d20 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 + 2 - 1 = 9 And he is pretty sure, no one noticed....
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
"Whoa there, Chum, is it? We ain't looking for no, no, no trouble trouble." Holding up his empty hands, Gimlet's eyes roam looking for a place to duck into, or short of that, something to defend himself with. Full defensive +4 AC = 18 AC Perception -> 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
At talk of stealing knives, Gimlet swallows hard. "I found it best to not be seen and not make problems. That got me pretty far. Don't look for trouble, but always, always, always be ready to take an advantage." As the others make for their hammocks, it seems safest to comply for tonight. As he lays in his high hung hammock he thinks, Never go making trouble..., as he drifts off.
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
"How either of you survived that fall is astounding. Here I doubt I can get all this down, and you look like you need it more than I." He holds it out to Uriah, but then stops and pulls it back. He looks around, "This don't count as 'selling or spilling', does it?" Seeing no one paying too much attention, he finishes handing it to Uriah, but takes is empty in exchange.
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
Gimlet savors his fishstew having worked up quite the appetite in the ropes. His rum in hand, he sips at it, while making his way over to his fellow newcomers. "One day down, aye lads? I'm Gimlet. I've spent years on Chelliax ships and never been treated worse than I have today."
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
Below decks, "Thanks Grok. First bit of hospitably I've come across on this boat." He takes his bit of spirits and makes his way back up to the deck. At the appointed time, Gimlet climbs a bit into the rigging on the pretense of getting a view past the taller crew, but mostly to distance himself from the whip and the blood.
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
@ the Quartermasters: "Me name's Gimlet. Scourge has got me working the lines. Tarring mostly..." and he holds up his hands in evidence. "Was wondering if there were some gloves available...or some spirits to wash this stuff off. Don't want my hand sticking to my arse while trying to wipe it later, when I am half dangling over the side." His eyes rove past her to look at what might be available in the store and also the type of lock on the door. Perception -> 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
Gimlet makes his way down the lines and returns the tar bucket. He chuckles to himself once back on deck; many have accused him of having sticky fingers, but now here is the proof. He holds his hands out and clenches and relaxes them trying to break up the collected tar. *Edit: I didn't realize the 'Daytime Shipboard Actions" spoiler was meant for us. I will incorporate 'Shop' into the previous check resulting in a 12 and a good way to incorporate his Trait. He then makes his way below deck to take advantage of his condition. The quartermaster's is a good place to start.
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
Gimlet freezes in the ropes as he watches the two plummet. They twirl and spin as they try to catch themselves...and then they hit. He is surprised to see them slowly get up, although obviously hurt. Slowly he finishes the climb just to show he can. climb -> 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 He touches the rim of the crow's nest. "A bit safer from the lash up here I assume...but then there is always that." He comments to its Halfling occupant with a nod to the bloodstained deck.
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
Round 9 Do well but not too well...too easy to loose fingers...or much, much, much more up here. Gimlet knows he can skitter up to the top, but the idea of living in the ropes can be another's wish. "Well, you are welcome to it, if you can reach it." Climb -> 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
Gimlet slows to a steady pace. Hah! This half-man is more man than you lot. You lost an eye already, someday it will be two. Rounds 2-5: climb -> 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 climb -> 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 climb -> 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 climb -> 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
Round 1 Accelerated climb -> 20 + 7 - 5 = 22 Gimlet hops up and swings through the lower ropes like he was born in them, which in fact he nearly was. Looking down he sees the tangled mess of the rest of the crew. Avast there boyo! Clear the rabble, then an easy, easy, easy climb. Don't show off
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
Gimlets big green eyes take in all the characters on the decks. When the tall fool speaks up, he takes a quick step to the left not avoid association. Disciple was not much different than on a Cheliax vessel. Keep your wits and you will find a way off this ship as well. Speaking up is not the way...but not being overly helpful is not the way either. That is one difference from the Chellaxians...So just do enough to not draw attention or get whipped.
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
Gimlet takes in the threats, the whip, the cruelty....nothing he hasn't experienced before. But he knows how to avoid the lash, "Give them enough to leave you alone. Left alone, you are not their slave.". Gimlet brings his knuckles his forehead, "Fair enough. Master Scourge was it? He indicates the door behind the scurvy crew, This way to the Captain then?"[/b] and he quickly pads through the door, looking for the stairs, counting his steps till he knows he might be clear of the lash.
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
Intelligence -> 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Gimlet's head ached. He opened his eyes and the pain only got worse. Once his eyes focused, it all started to make sense. There is the bloke buying the drinks last night....and his cronies. "I remember You from last night, although I really, really, really wish I didn't.", Gimlet mutters as he struggles to his feet, unsure if the rocking was the room or his head....Definitely the room, is the conclusion after a moment to cope with the pitch and roll. Stupid-stupid-stupid. You are back at sea. You knew better, but for the chance to save a coin you took the drink and....and.. Gimlet feels at his hips. Yep...all your coin is gone for the trouble...and your pipe...and your knife...and... Gimlet at least retained enough sense not to pat the cloth wrappings on his feet and ankles...without touching them, he could feel the resistance of the small thin metal strips hidden there. Well, at last I still have those and if I can manage to keep my wits as well, I can find a way off whatever tub this is, just like an unsecured hatch helped get you off the Devilmote."
Male Halfling Rogue (Pirate, Scout) 1
I ended up going with a halfling rogue, as it didn't feel right recycling the previous character...maybe he will get another chance at RotR. Typing up the official backstory now, but for short, he was an assistant boatswain slave on a Chelaxian ship built to withstand the Eye...but it didn't. As a help to the boatswain, Gimlet excelled on getting his hands on all sorts of equipment. This is reflected in his Well-Prepared Feat and the Eye for Plunder Trait. He initially will be a reluctant combatant, but hopefully will live up to his Pirate and Scout archetypes by 2nd level. His one item will be his thieves tools. But with his Eye for Plunder trait, not sure if the "50gp in trade items" are actual trade items (like spices or pineapple extract) for later resale? or 50gp in assorted gear that he ends up getting his hands on? I have an avatar picked out, but can't selcect it, or any right now. WIll have to try with another computer. |
