At the end, he starts the discussion. "Pen, you should certainly try to learn that ritual, as you are the most versed in the arcane and occult. I will certainly try to assist you, but my knowledge is limited, due to the lack of practice. This will help us traverse the tower much faster."

But spending an action increases the range of the effect.

but you can increase Bless size for one action and Heal someone for 2d8+16 for two actions at 30 ft range.

@Hagrym: I asked this before, why don't you use the two-action version of Heal for 2d8+16???

As you analyze the room, Mac's sharp senses detect a trap in the room. Pen, via his magical scans, determines that the trap is not of an arcane nature. Hagrym, through his religious studies, can sense the presence of s restless spirit in the room that is related to fire. He determines that there is a haunt in the room emanating from the hatch. He can use his religious studies to quell the spirits, as he enters the room.
