Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared spends most of his time assisting in the rebuild effort; although as the days pass, he also leads a few vigils in Erastil's name. On the whole, he appears to become more and more religious. I think that I'd like to try and establish some kind of shrine to Erastil in the area. I can imagine there would be quite a few worshippers of some description.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared will claim the Quick Runner's Shirt, I guess. It will provide some additional flexibility for him to be able to move around the battlefield.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared purses his lips as he regards the handaxe. Finally, he pats the magical one on his belt. "This is enough for now," he replies, "And Lucanor makes a good point. We'll keep it for now, but let's only display it around town. We don't want to anger Kreed at this point but we certainly don't want to offend the fey. It's beginning to sound like we may need their assistance at some point." Once they are a good distance from Kreed's manor, he'll fall into step with Silas and speak quietly with him. "I want to know all there is to know about Harg. Where he goes, who he sees, any unexplained absences. The little bastard puts the hairs on the back of my neck on end and I don't trust him. It'd be good to know if we're going to face a fight on three fronts or not," he whispers. Downtime: Gared retrains. He'll also want to find out as much information as possible on Harg, including his comings and goings. I suspect Silas could assist in this.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Druid sounds good to me, and shall be easy to work in, especially a Dwarven Druid who could probably be investigating the monastery when we head there.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared's eyes follow the Magister as he beats a hasty retreat. Under the table, his hands clench and unclench as he wishes to launch himself across the table and wrap them around the Magister's neck. He's involved, I just know it, Gared thinks to himself, Whether he is trying to oust the High Gavel or just cause mischief is something that needs to be uncovered. Gared makes a mental note to get Silas to check into the Magister at a later date.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
At the mention of spellcasting, Gared turns his attention to Harg. "Why would you be casting spells at dinner, Magister? Trying to change the taste of the food?" although Gared's words might hint at humour, the iciness in his gaze certainly does not.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
I vote give it to him. It could give us a lead and I get the vibe that he's a good guy who deals with bad stuff to help. He didn't try to dominate, he was blasting them apart. Gared listens but says little; items of an arcane nature are not his forte and he is happy to look around the tower to try and figure Vade out. Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared studies the note and sighs. "No doubt trying to twist the situation to his benefit," Gared says, passing the note on. "We'd best go, so as to not arouse suspicions." What kind of supplies would we be able to gather/buy?
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
"It is settled then," Gared nods, "We help out the townsfolk today and depart for Olfdan tomorrow." "Percival and Lucanor, Michael shall need to be in as fit a state as possible tomorrow; can you ensure that he is fit to travel, at least? Who knows what we'll run into on the road to Olfdan. Silas, Hecktor and I can head out into the town and survey the damage, as well as trying to locate some supplies for the road," Gared says, looking for input from the others.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
"It's possible we're all in over our heads, Lucanor, but we're the best defence this town has to offer; we can't afford to trust the Consortium and their cronies," Gared replies.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared is quiet for a moment. It's obvious that he is weighing up options in his mind. "We should stay for at least a day to help start the repair effort; we can then use that as cover to head to Olfdan for supplies," Gared says finally, "To act before that may look... odd to the people of the Hollow."
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
I would suggest, then, that we take a day to help with the clear up effort and burying the dead, as well as resupplying as best we can.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared rouses from his sleep slowly, the exertions of the night before taking a heavy toll on his muscles. After his watch, he hadn't even bothered to remove his armour but it doesn't appear to have had any effect - usually when sleeping in his armour it causes him to wake with pains but not today. As Lucanor comes in the door, Gared looks at him in confusion. "The town needs to be rebuilt, Lucanor. How can we just drop everything to go on a shopping trip of Olfdan?"
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared is now updated to level 3 with the Righteous Sentinel archetype, although mechanically not much has changed.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Actually that is pretty close! So I take Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) and Undead-killing ahoy!
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Would that retraining include abilities? If so, then I'll go Paladin as I feel now that's the way that Gared is headed. As a Paladin of Erastil I'll retain a modicum of ranged combat but it really feels as though Gared wants to be in the thick of the battle, using his greataxe and handaxe to deal damage. It would also fit with Gared wanting to focus on cleaning up the Hollow. Mechanically it would mean swapping his Wisdom score and Charisma score, everything else would remain the same.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Assuming that the party decide to remain in the jail... Gared slips his handaxe into his belt and slings his shield over his shoulder and then picks up the Sheriff and deposits him in one of the cots used for grabbing naps during shifts. "I'll take the first watch, who feels up for taking the rest?" he asks as he sets the Sheriff in the cot.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Mechanically, no, but I find it would fit his character. I suppose that look at the mechanics, the choice is perhaps between Barbarian and Inquisitor but we already have one Inquisitor. "What do you think, Laurel?" Gared asks, the exhaustion finally catching up with him, "Shall he survive?" Gared watches Lady Cirthana speaking with Lucanor and raises an eyebrow, making a mental note to ask him what she said later. "Perhaps we should remain in the jail tonight; that way no one can tamper with anything," he suggests.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared narrows his gaze at Harg as the halfling shrinks back behind Kreed but makes no move to do anything further, aside from glaring at the diminuitive Magistrate. "Yes, Gavel, we shall remain to assist in getting the town back to a semblance of normal," Gared agrees, although he remains vague on precisely how long that shall be. He watches the group leave before turning to his compatriots. "We need the Sheriff and Michael back on their feet as soon as possible," he says quickly, "I don't trust Harg at all and Kreed I trust as far as I can throw him. We continue with our plan but we assist in getting the town back on its feet first. Lady Cirthana, I would be grateful if the Church can house any folks that have lost their houses as part of this disaster while the rebuilding effort takes place. I'm sure it shall curry favour with the local populace." Gared pauses to think for a moment before continuing, "We intend to bring justice to this town, my Lady, so any assistance the Church can provide would be greatly appreciated. First on a long list is to discover what Harg's involvement with the cultists is. His lack of alibi speaks volumes. Silas, once we've got everyone back on their feet, can you gather information as to the whereabouts of Harg earlier this evening? If he is involved, he'll be the first to face justice." Gared looks around the jail and sighs, "Colbrin, once the Sheriff is back on his feet, I'm resigning as a deputy. You've proven yourself tonight; I'd ask that you assist him in any way possible in the future. We won't be going far, but our actions shall place us in direct opposition to the Consortium and that means that the Sheriff will need all the help he can get. We've lost a lot of good men tonight, and that's a commodity in short order in this town. Find other men who value the law and justice and sign them up." "Tonight is the turning point; from here on out we face an uphill battle but I will not see the town I was raised in turned to a battleground; from tonight, everything changes." So I'm at a crossroads here; either Gared gives into his rage and anger and becomes a Ranger/Barbarian, or he becomes an instrument of justice and multiclasses in a Ranger/Paladin of Erastil. I'd value the input of the group on what they think would be most appropriate.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
"Yes," Gared replies tersely, "While the rest of the town was squabbling over scraps and starting fights in the street, we ventured into the Vale to recover the ingredients required for Laurel's cure." Gared turns his head to face Laurel, "Good to see that you have survived the night, Laurel." Gared's tone drops its iciness for a moment, but it soon returns. "Now I am inclined to ask why you are so quick to assign blame, Magistrate" he growls at the halfling, "Especially as from the state of your finery, it would appear that you haven't fought any undead tonight." Gared takes a step towards the halfling, his grip on the axe tightening. "Where were you this evening? And more importantly, can anyone verify you were there?" Gared says, his voice scarcely above a whisper but in the quiet of the jail it carries to all corners of the building.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared is breathing heavily from his exertions when the Magistrate appears with Kreed and his crowd. "Interesting to see what you've only arrived after we've finished clearing out the mass of undead that were attacking the town," Gared says icily, his eyes locked with the Magistrate, "Until such point as the Sheriff is back on his feet, I'm the ranking lawman in town. Well, the ranking lawman that isn't in the Consortium's pocket." Gared's appearance must be frightening; he's covered in zombie gore, covered in cuts and bruises and is gripping his handaxe and shield in a manner that suggest anyone attempting to brook an argument won't be dealt with kindly. "Until such time as an investigation can find out the source of the undead and those attacking the town, I am instigating a curfew. I shall request that the Church of Iomedae send us an investigate force to both help the town get back on it's feet and to aid in the investigation," Gared continues, raising his voice so that all in the jail can hear. "In the mean time, Mr. Kreed, the ingredients for the cure to the plague have been delivered to Laurel. Assuming that her shop is in one piece, I'd request the Consortium assist in ensuring the cure is delivered to everyone in the Hollow," Gared says, "After all, the longer that people are in their beds ill, the longer it will be before the working force is back on their feet."
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Yeah, if Lucanor, Silas and Percival go after the shadow that took no damage I will use Hecktor's aid another to try and finish off the last one. Incorporeal creatures take half damage from magic weapons so I'll need a half decent swing to take out this one but it will leave me open to the other. Do we have any lesser restoration stuff? Seeing that his attack wounds the shadow, Gared presses the attack using the momentum to bring down an overhead chop on where the creature's head would be. Attack (+1 handaxe, -1 Str damage, +2 aid another): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared's visage turns into a rictus of rage and he roars defiance at the shadows, as he raises his handaxe and swings it back-handed at the nearest shadow. Attack (+1 handaxe, +5 from aid another and bless): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared looks on with a grim countenance at the devastation wrought and then feels a sudden punch to the stomach when he realises that neither Kimi or her mother are there. I have failed them, he thinks to himself, I shall not fail the others. "Has anyone seen the Eavewalkers?" he asks quietly, his tone flat. Before anyone can answer, he turns to face the jail. There is an audible groan as his fist tightens around the haft of the magical handaxe they found in the monastery. "First," he intones darkly, "We finish the undead. Then, we bury our own dead. And finally, I'll find those responsible for this attack." A few moments pass before he says anything else. "And then I'll kill them." I foresee an alignment shift to CG for Gared in the future and for the next level he's definitely going Urban Barbarian.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared leans heavily on his greataxe, obviously exerted from the running battle and the evil channelling of the spellcaster. Although he bears no physical wounds but he looks very tired. He listens to the conversation between Cirthana and Lucanor and sighs heavily. He swings his greataxe back up over his shoulder and into its sheath. After doing so, he pulls his shield down over his left arm and pulls the magical handaxe from his belt. "Well, no one lives forever," he says grimly, "We have to go and aid the Sheriff."
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Did my holy water action go through? Gared continues to hack at the ogre zombie in order to clear the way to charge the spellcaster. Attack (greataxe, inspire courage): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 1 = 8
... how many hero points do we have?
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared shall spend an action point to throw his holy water at the downed ogre zombie. Attack (vial of holy water, inspire courage): 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 + 1 = 21
Gared draws out his vial of holy water and tosses it at the ogre zombie in attempt to finish it off.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
I'll post my action now to keep things flowing. "Lucanor, pull Michael out of there!" Gared roars, as he spins his greataxe in an attempt to finish off the ogre zombie. Attack (greataxe, inspire courage): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 1 = 15
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared continues to use the momentum of his greataxe and attempts to smash the skulls to pieces. Attack (greataxe): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared reverses the momentum of his greataxe in an attempt to smash the skulls out of the way. Attack (greataxe, inspire courage): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 1 = 25
Gared roars in victory as he deals the swarm a vicious blow. We need the swarm out of the way if we want to be able to get a clean shot at the spellcaster. She's taken a couple of good blows so a couple more should put her out of action.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Round Five
Attack (greataxe): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared moves forward and attacks the zombie in front of him. Attack (greataxe): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
He curses as the lurching of the corpse causes him to miss, however. "Stop her casting," Gared roars after swinging his greataxe at the shambling corpse.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
I take it the ogre zombies are classed as dangerous terrain and prevent a charge? If not, the spellcaster is my target. Otherwise, I'm attacking the first ogre zombie, assuming that the swarm is dead following the past two attacks. Gared switches his attention to (insert target here) and charges them, swinging his axe as hard as he can... Attack (greataxe, charge): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 2 = 10
Might be a hit against the prone zombie but unlikely to be a hit against the spellcaster.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 With the appearance of the screaming skull, Gared switches his target and charges the magical entity with a scream of his own. Attack (greataxe, charge): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 2 = 23, +1 if inspire courage is still active
I'm hoping all we hear is the sound of the skull flying off into the distance as Gared hits a home run! He'll wind up in the box under the bottom skull in the picture.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared spins away from the tumbling corpse and moves back towards the main fight, running towards the battle. Gared will double move to the square diagonally left of the zombie in front of Michael, leaving himself room to charge the large zombies if needs be.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
True, I think I'm just missing the additional power of Power Attack and/or Cleave, especially in these situations. How are are we from 3rd at the moment?
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared roars in victory and charges the remaining zombie in the open courtyard, his greataxe whistling through the air as he seeks to put the corpse back to rest. Attack (greataxe, charge, inspire courage): 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 2 + 1 = 23
Gared roars in defiance at the zombie as he lands a solid hit. I'm thinking that Gared might branch out into Barbarian now. He seems to be heading much more toward being 'in your face' and I do regret having picked archery as his combat style.
Human Ranger (Righteous Sentinel) 3 | HP: 20/26 | AC 19 (Armor, Dex, Shield) (ff 16, t 13) | Fort +6, Ref +7, Will +4 | Init +3, Perc +7 | Longbow +6 (1d8/x3), +1 Handaxe +6 (1d6+3/x3), Greataxe +5 (1d12+2/x3)
Gared continues the momentum of his greataxe and swings at the shuffling dead in front of him. Attack (greataxe): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Gared, now uncaring of any stealth, roars defiance into the zombies in front of him and swings with his greataxe, blood and gore flying off the blade and splattering the mindless abominations gathered in front of him. Attack (greataxe): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Despite his hearty attack, the blade whistles wide of its mark.

Gared pauses and thinks for a moment. Two options; the house and escape with Kimi and her mother, or aid the men in the street. It only takes a couple of moments for Gared to make up his mind. "Kimi, stay with your mother. If you see a zombie getting close, then you run through that house," Gared indicates towards the house with the open door, "You keep running until you get to the Sheriff's house." And with that said, Gared turns and hefts his gore-slick greataxe once again. He almost saunters over to the zombies, attempting to avoid their attention, trusting to their single-minded nature to keep their attention on the men already fighting them. As he stops behind the first zombie, he raises his axe... Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
... but misses as the zombie lurches forward and out of the way. Should the zombies cataclysmically fail their Perception checks to hear Gared thundering up the road so that he gets a surprise round. Gared grimaces as he misses the zombie, but uses the momentum of the greataxe to swing the axe around his head and swing it horizontally, hoping to decapitate the zombie in front of him... Attack (greataxe): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
... and is rewarded by a solid hit on the shuffling corpse.

Gared glowers at Kimi's mother before noticing the zombie coming for them. He dashes forward and attacks it with his greataxe. Attack (charge, greataxe): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 2 = 26
Assuming the zombie goes *smoosh* Gared jogs back to Kimi's mother and grips her arm. "If we don't move now, more of those things are going to appear and then I won't be able to hold them all off. Pull your sh*t together and follow me," he whispers harshly, nodding in the direction of the jail. |
