GM Top, that is an awesome offer makes me wish I had core characters. I have a level 5 sorcerer that I have been waiting for a chance to play 9-17 or 7-25 with, but he isn't Core. Hopefully you find some good candidates.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

Malaz, I will as soon as I can either confirm everyone got them or the end of this week if I don't hear from people...at that point they can always PM me if something is wrong.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

Alright, this should be the chronicles, let me know if there is something messed up and I can fix up a corrected one.

Chronicles

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

Okay, just a heads up, there may be a delay in the chronicles because my usual software for filling them in does not seem to be working. Trying to get that all figured out. My apologies.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

As Zranashta launches a snowball at the last standing guard it pelts him for solid contact, but does not knock him down. Though as Remmy steps around him and cuts perfectly at his jugular with a claw You crit with the first hit and I am using the second as the confirm and extra damage. he falls to the ground dead.

Soon after the last bodyguard hits the ground Guaril Karela rushes in and realizes that what has just occurred will likely attract unwanted attention and as such arranges your return to Magnimar. From here Sheila Heidmarch, Ambrus Valsin, and Drandle Dreng meet with you to hear of Torch's betrayal. At learning of his escape they all express great concern over the information he now holds over their heads and that he fooled everyone for so long. The assure you that those loyal to his former faction will be cared for in the utmost to minimize the impact this has on them and assure you that his betrayal nor escape are your fault as it is amazing you even survived a trap by someone so capable within the Society itself.

YOU HAVE FINISHED!!!!

Everyone earns both Prestige point, but does not get the Unexpected Prestige boon for capturing or killing Torch, and instead gets the Fool Me Once boon. I will work on getting chronicles out either tonight or tomorrow depending on how my evening life goes.

I apologize for how long this adventure took, I think several of us had various things come up that slowed our responses. I hope you had fun though and if you have any particular critiques to help me be a better GM, I am happy to hear them.

Just realized I forgot the miss chance for red's attack

Bodyguard Red Miss Chance High is Good: 1d100 ⇒ 15

and he actually misses, so Ijo you do not take the damage.

Draklor calls out from the smoke to one of the bodyguards and makes him shake in his boots. Technically Demoralize says see and hear clearly, but I think that is dumb and not seeing is actually more threatening sooo yeah, I am counting it.

Zranashta can you drop something on the map for where exactly your obscuring mist is please, for now though I will assume it covers all the bodyguards current positions.

With his comrade dead across from him the bodyguard Remmy bit attempts to lash back fighting through the mist.

Bodyguard Purple Miss Change High Good: 1d100 ⇒ 21wow close

Yeah sorry for the delay. If we don't hear from anyone by tonight I will probably take the turns for them. This IS the last fight by the way.

Also started playing in later seasons and didn't understand the torch hate, obviously this scenario is the big part, but I haven't played or GM'd the stuff that lead to this moment so I still don't know all the details.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

As Cuethric steps up and unleashes two arrows in to one of the bodyguards Ijo steps up in front and cracks the same one with his unique weapon.

Right next to this one of the other bodyguards attempts to lay into the Foo Dog.

Bodyguard Red Flanking Power Attack on Foo Dog: 1d20 + 12 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 12 - 2 + 2 = 31

With a perfectly aimed strike the bodyguard lays into the Foo Dog hard.

Bodyguard Red Flanking Critical Power Attack Damage on Foo Dog: 2d4 + 9 + 6 + 2d6 + 2d4 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 9 + 6 + (3, 3) + (1, 3) + 9 + 6 = 45

This time not even the natural resistance, the hardening, and the extra persistence keeps the Foo Dog going, and as it falls to the ground it disappears back to where it was summoned from.

I stacked the DR and hardness...I think it should, even if not it benefits you guys so I'll say it does. Thanks for the reminder on Diehard, forgot about that, actually originally missed the DR too, had to go back and edit the post, originally thought the Foo Dog was unconscious, which would have been double wrong with Diehard.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

As Malaz activates his bane and prepares for an attack he evaluates the situation and is positive that this is a real threat.

A third bodyguard flies into a rage as he brandishes his weapon and with power behind his blade swings at the foo dog.

Bodyguard Blue Flanking Power Attack on Foo Dog: 1d20 + 12 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 12 - 2 + 2 = 28

As the strike reigns down the dog hardens itself in an attempt at protection.

Bodyguard Blue Flanking Power Attack on Foo Dog: 2d4 + 9 + 6 + 2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 9 + 6 + (6, 1) = 29

The hardening effect barely saves the Foo Dog from dropping to the floor unconscious from the precise crushing blow of the bodyguard.

As Torch nods to his bodyguard he disappears into a cloud of smoke.

Spellcraft DC19:

With that the last bodyguard also flies into a rage and brandishes his falchion as he moves to flank Remmy. The movement will provoke from the Foo Dog, Remmy and would from Cuethric if he has a way to threaten with his bow out.

Foo Dog Provoked AOO: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

I don't see anything on Remmy's the attacks that would prevent the bodyguard attack, but he can definitely take the attack.

Bodyguard Green Flanking Power Attack on Remmy: 1d20 + 12 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 12 - 2 + 2 = 14

Cuethric, you don't get an action yet, this is a surprise round and Zranashta and her familiar are only getting an action because of their ability. There is a way written into the scenario for you to get an idea of what is going on to provoke you acting in this surprise round, but none of you have even close to the stat for it so I didn't roll it (hint you would have needed AT LEAST a +21 on sense motive) this is EXTREMELY awkward of a surprise round because of Zranashta's ability and the fact this surprise round is supposed to basically happen as exposition...sooo yeah...sorry for the confusion everyone, it is actually written that if we were in person I should like start putting my dice away and act as if the scenario is over.

As Zranashta summons her Foo Dog and it takes a bite out of the Grandmaster he ignores it and says “But now I’ve finally got something to hold over the Decemvirate, so I’m striking out on my own.” As he says this, Grandmaster Torch drives his dagger into Ouidda’s throat, killing her.

Zranashta if Spot has an action you would like it to take for it's turn in the surprise round, go ahead and do that, but since you normally don't I am going to start the actual first round.

As Malaz forces his way out the staff exit he garners a few odd looks, but no one is willing to stand in front of such an intimidating creature hauling off with a full person over his shoulder. Cuethric follows right behind and tries to help Malaz, but looks more like an innocent child tailing a parent than an actual intimidating force.

While Remmy makes his mess in the dungeon room the others inconspicuously work their way out of the gambling hall with Remmy eventually catching up with the trek back being as easy as the trek there.

Grandmaster Torch’s elegant suite in the Cypher Lodge appears just as it did earlier today, except that the Sczarni entrepreneur Guaril Karela is absent. Grandmaster Torch lounges in a chair, reading, while his half-orc bodyguards stand casually behind him.

"You brought her in alive as requested, good. Anything I should know?" Says Grandmaster Torch as takes Ouidda and steers her into a chair, where he prepares her for questioning, and drawing a slim dagger, whose hilt he uses to casually scratch an itch on his scarred face.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

As the team works to tie up Ouida and check her person she offers no resistance and you find a potion of cure moderate wounds,
+1 chain shirt (that she is wearing), mwk rapier, ring of spell knowledge IV, spell component pouch, keys, winding keys to the clockwork guardians.

"You all think to much, you think I would risk anyone up there knowing about this place or that I am anyone to be concerned with?" says Ouidda.

For timing sake I will say this is not quite the end of the scenario, but I can't say more without spoilers.

Ouidda takes the chance to do as requested and dismisses her invisibility. She then says to Cuethric's question while also presenting her hands openly to show submission. That body is just a doppelganger corpse preserved with that has been preserved in case of need to fake someones death. I do not even know the name of who it used to be.

Can you drop something on the map to show your obscuring mist positioning for everyone's reference.

Cuethric, the Song of Fiery Gaze let's you all see through Zranashta's obscuring mist. I got your cover and also your in the smoke and had been using stealth so she is unaware of you completely for the first arrow, also I added the damage bonus from the flagbearer as it looks like you just used your base +3 of +1 bow and +2 composite.

As Malaz marches into the room undaunted by the invisible woman's petty spells he lands a splintering blow upon her with his mighty butchering axe. Then while the beginnings of a performance can be heard, from the smoke an arrow flies out and pierces her in the side as a second flies just next to her.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

As Malaz floats into the air and takes a very close and detailed look of the environment, Ijo casts his detection to no avail, Remmy tunes his nose to sniff out anything suspicious only pulling the scent of the team and some faint whispers of another person having passed through here before, Cuethric with suspicions abound after triggering the previous trap carefully steps around the carpets in the middle of the room to investigate one of the hallways, only seeing a stone hallway, upon reaching the door on the other side of the room he looks closely to find markings that match the ancient motif of the rest of the dungeon, but nothing that stands out as specifically of interest or indicative of a trap.

After some time focusing Malaz realizes that the carpets are indeed trapped with a touch based magical trap that for some reason his initial attempt to detect he could not notice. Even more interesting is it appears to be a pair of traps, that if one particular rug is touched it would cast touch of idiocy AND an illusory script. As you are now aware of the trap as long as no one tries to go running through the middle and you are all stepping around the edges of the room we can assume you are evading the specific carpet of issue.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

For deciding where to go/what to do, in case it was missed, Cuethric DID see a latch behind the "trap door" that would allow it to open all the way and appears to lead somewhere.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

@Zranashta Correct, but Malaz has a +17, the additional plus 2 for using the wand before being cited to not fail the natural one is part of the activate blindly rules not a generic UMD rule unless I am missing it somewhere else which I would be happy to be enlightened to:

Core Rulebook wrote:

Activate Blindly: Some magic items are activated by special

words, thoughts, or actions. You can activate such an item
as if you were using the activation word, thought, or action,
even when you’re not and even if you don’t know it. You do
have to perform some equivalent activity in order to make
the check. That is, you must speak, wave the item around,
or otherwise attempt to get it to activate. You get a +2 bonus
on your Use Magic Device check if you’ve activated the
item in question at least once before. If you fail by 9 or less,
you can’t activate the device. If you fail by 10 or more, you
suffer a mishap. A mishap means that magical energy gets
released but doesn’t do what you wanted it to do. The default
mishaps are that the item affects the wrong target or that
uncontrolled magical energy is released, dealing 2d6 points
of damage to you. This mishap is in addition to the chance
for a mishap that you normally risk when you cast a spell
from a scroll that you could not otherwise cast yourself

Like I said, you all have plenty of healy wands so it isn't really a big deal for this mission, just trying to make sure I am doing the rules right.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

As the party finishes healing themselves up, Cuethric takes a peak around the corner to find an identical hallway to the one they just came from.

Malaz, that is for activating something blindly to represent if you don't actually know the magic words but have got it to work before a higher change of hitting the same thing again. I mean everyone has wands and is willing to share so it isn't a big deal for this mission, heck Zranashta got you fixed up for one less charge.

Pathfinders what will you do?

Draklor [-3 DEX]
Cuethric [-1 DEX]
Ijo Ibn Son [-6 DEX]
Remmy[-1 DEX] Skeleton [-14 HP]
Zranashta [-2 HP, -6 DEX]

Malaz [-6 DEX]

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

Malaz, I hate to have to use this rule on you, but unless you have something I am not seeing to prevent it that natural 1 that also fails on the 6th roll makes your wand unusable for the next 24 hours. Meaning you would only end up using 5 charges and still be at -19 HP, sorry for the bad news. Though if someone else is willing to let you use their wand you can just use those last 3 rolls (I believe Draklor was offering up to anyone who needed)

As Cuethric takes a closer inspection on the room that he triggered the trap in, he realizes that the door he was trying to open had a hidden catch behind it that prevented the door from opening all the way, it would appear this catch will allow passage.

Pathfinders what will you do?

Draklor [-3 DEX]
Cuethric [-10 HP, -1 DEX]
Ijo Ibn Son [-14 HP, -6 DEX]
Remmy[-20 HP, -1 DEX] Skeleton [-14 HP]
Zranashta [-2 HP, -6 DEX]

Malaz [-19 HP (additional 19 HP healing pending someone letting him borrow their wand), -6 DEX]

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

I am okay with you using Prestige, but it is likely going to take you longer to find a Pathfinder to cash a favor in with who will then also have such a scroll on them or have to go get one for you. Alternatively, I am okay with letting you use the cash "now" for the quicker find and then claim back your gold for the prestige later...assuming you don't end up needing to use this missions prestige purchase on something else. Fair?

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

For reference, you feel like you have been making decent time, but you also have no idea what kind of time scale you are looking at. Going to go get some healing supplies would only take a scale of minutes (vs say hours or days), and I would be willing to use a knowledge local check (best of whatever anyone rolls)for how quickly you could find an appropriate shop if the team wants to do it that way. That's about all the more I can say on the timing impact though.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

Zranashta you are correct. I will update everyones status as I am aware of it...hopefully later today, but I think Remmy may still want some health help before everyone moves on.

Also it sounds like your not going to send anyone out for more restorations, at this point, let me know if anyone disagrees with that though and we can work it out as a team before moving on.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

Through a look at the occultist stuff due to not being familiar myself, I believe that Remmy's plan would work and put Ijo back to a positive 1 for dex allowing him to move and therefore use his spells.

Though, there is a TON of DEX damage among you so if you do still want to fetch some scrolls to try and get more of that taken care of, it is still an option.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

Does anyone have any scrolls or castings of lesser restoration? While this is a somewhat time sensitive there is a ton of DEX damage around the team right now, you are in the middle of a highly populace place, you could try and send someone (or multiple someones) out to get some scrolls or other similar supplies. Just wanted to make sure you knew something like that was an option.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

As most of the team focuses hard on the poison within them to disallow it getting any worse, Cuethric launches a final alchemist's fire into the last section of the swarm setting fire to the spiders and sending them scattering. Remmy don't count the one you used off your supplies As the spiders begin to spread, it is clear to everyone that all of the spiders have not only scattered, but completely vanished all together.

You are correct that Ijo, can not currently move on his own. We are out of the tuen based poison issue, so we don't have to function in rounds anymore, just let me know what you are doing to get fixed up and how long your spending on it.

Pathfinders what will you do?

Zranashta you also make the save FYI.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

Ijo, you are correct, the good news is you made the save to not take anymore ability damage at least...

Also, Cuethrics attack will be enough to scatter the last swarm, but we are going to stay in rounds for a bit till the Poison is dealt with. So Remmy and Zranashta take your turns with that understanding please.

Also, also, Cuethric made his save if that affects your turns.

Rivalry's End Compass Truthseeker 1

As Draklor makes a brave maneuver through the mass of spiders to help restore his comrade, Malaz steps to remove that which is causing the agony and with a mighty smash of his ax disperses another section of the swarm.

With that it can be noticed that small amounts of spiders that were scattered about the area have begun to disappear completely, thought the large cluster around the skeleton and others scattered about still remain.
