"Huh? No thank you. I'm fine." she replies to Trajan. Turning to Bedisa, her frown deepens. "I'm not entirely sure."
Suddenly, a woman’s shrill cry cuts through the chamber music and muted conversation. Across the salon, Senator Naran holds his buxom young wife in his arms after her apparent collapse. As all eyes turn on the unconscious woman, the senator emits an angry cry: “Poison! Gods, my wife has been poisoned!”
Several guests shriek at the sight and drop their wine glasses. Servants dart this way and that.
Lady Dyrianna quickly comes to Dalessa’s aid and casts a spell...but the damage is done. The guests quickly turn to leave. The senator carries his now semi-conscious wife out without another word.
The Blakros make every attempt to convince the delegates to stay...but alas there is not hope. All, save one, quickly make their way out the door.
Frowning, Lady Dyrianna begins looking around the room. "My manservant is missing! I suppose he may have stepped away with a young lady...but I can't leave without him."
In the chaos, Trajan manages to see one of the servants smile and cautiously make her way to the door. Trying to follow the woman, he fails to keep up in the see of servants moving about...and she's gone.
I assume Trajan attempts to pursue:1d20 ⇒ 10
As the Venture Captains move to reassure the guests and see them out properly, Damien approaches you. "What is going on?"
Prepped/know speak with dead spell, Spellcraft DC 15:
You believe the jaws were removed to prevent the dead from being able to communicate through such spells as speak with dead
Momentarily allowing himself a grim expression the Major nods solemnly. "That's quite unfortunate. We must see they are properly cared for later."
Joining them, Lady Morillo is quickly filled in. With a sigh, she frowns. "This is terrible indeed. Keep your wits about you, but please go mingle. You may be able to figure out whom the culprit is."
The speech winding up, all are ushered into the salon. (room 4) An orchestra winds up as they enter, playing soft concert music.
Assuming you are going to follow their commands, the duo split off. Major Colson heads for Senator Naran as Lady Morilla makes her way to Lady Vaelia.
Politics! A man's game -> Colson and Naran:
Major Maldris begins by proudly describing Andoran's unique strengths and how they might be employed against demons. Nara's responses favor vague affirmatives that notably fail to bind him to any specific action...but are somewhat agreeable.
Changing tactics, Maldris begins to inquire about Andoran and the health of the nation. Encouraged by the interest, Naran goes on a lengthy tirade about the bountiful economy and the richness of his own holdings. He mentions a few other politicians and senators of note, to which Maldris points out they have served their time.
With a maniacle laugh, the senator simple states "Some are born to rule. Those so born, should maintain that power forever! Well, for the benefit of all...of course."
Hearing this, the Major clenches his jaw and tightly excuses himself. His hands balled up at his side...he walks away from the senator.
Girl Power! A polite society --> Lady Morilla and Lady Vaelia:
Lady Gloriana Morilla begins by reminiscing about Taldor's lost glory before turning to the subject of the Fifth Crusade. "Certainly," she remarks "the crusade is a prime opportunity to lead Taldor to greatness once more; when the Shining Crusade and the Armies of Exploration swept across the Inner Sea, it was Taldor that led the charge. If Taldor were to save the world once more, surely the empire would regain, if not exceed, its former glory!"
Lady Vaelia scrunches up her mouth as if having bitten into a bitter fruit before scathingly reprimanding Lady Morilla. "Little Girl!" she calls out in reply before launching into a tirade about the evils of Qadira. She adds "Taldor cannot afford to turn its back on such a serpent of a foul nation and it's CULT of 'Sun Witches'!"
Taking a breath, Lady Morilla tries to reason with the elder...in response Lady Vaelia confides quietly, "Quite while you can Little Girl. You plan will never work. The nobles of Taldor have already sent a contingent of soldiers north, and that is a contingent more than they should."
"This will not stand." replies Lady Morilla shakily, excusing herself.
Refreshments and drinks continue to be handed out by servants in abundance.
You are welcome to mingle as you desire. Those you are able to influence have been influenced
Firing a barrage of bullets into the dwarf, he shudders. Staggering to the side, you see something strange...a faintly glowing ball of light bobs seems to slide out of his head. Bobbing gently in the air, the nebulous image seems to resemble a skull of some kind.
Growling, the floating ball vanishes before your eyes.
Blinking a few times, the dwarf drops to his knees and frowns. "If ya kin see it, kill da devilish beast!"
~~Round 2~~
Anthys (Delayed in Round 1 - can take 2 rounds of actions)
Kimo
Knowledge Dungeoneering DC 22:
This is a unique form of Will-o-Whisp (Aberration)
Special Abilities: Inhabit Dreams (Sp) Due to its proximity to the First World and exposure to shadow magic while imprisoned in the Fellnight Realm, the will-o’-wisp Gossamere has gained the unique ability to inhabit a sleeping or helpless creature by making a successful touch attack.
While inhabiting a victim, Gossamere can attempt to control the victim’s movement and actions as per a dominate monster spell (caster level 12th, Will DC 16 negates). An inhabited and dominated creature can make a new Will save once per day to throw off the domination, expelling the will-o’-wisp automatically. A creature that successfully saves is immune to Gossamere’s inhabit ability for 24 hours. The save DC is Charisma-based.
Once Gossamere inhabits a creature, the will-o’-wisp can have a detrimental effect on a victim’s sanity. Every day a victim fails its Will save against domination, it takes 1d4 points of Wisdom damage. Gossamere can abandon its host body at any time as a standard action. Any attack against the host deals half damage to the will-o’-wisp as well.
Icon placed where will-o-wisp was last seen. Anthys and Berato can take an AoO on it - provoked from them prior to going invisible so no miss chance
So the treant and the dwarf encounter are a straight railroad. The situation with the dwarf is even a unique variation to a creature to give it a unique variation of a specific spell.
Add to it, without the knowledge the dwarf possesses, there is almost no way of finding out what you need to move forward without stumbling around a bit.
I'm am definitely Not a fan of this part.
--> Thankfully Kimo has done enough damage to end the affect on Devarre (which I'll post momentarily)
In regards to where we are in the module. We are just shy of 3/4 of the way through the story.
Idea of what's to come - Read if you wish:
Devarre is about to direct you to a big waterfall in the northern part of the forest. You will discover the source of the mist there... An army will suddenly appear. No way to avoid it. Your only real option will be to flee.
You will have an option to convince the good fey creatures of the forest to fight back.
Then you get to go to the fellknight realm and fight the queen directly in her fortress.
--> There are multiple fights with Spriggans between you and the fortress when you arrive in the fellknight realm. I plan to skip these as they serve no purpose.
The fortress for the queen is quite large. Personally, I believe this module should grant 3 chronicles - 1 for each part. At the very least, 2 chronicles with the fortress being one on it's own.
Welcome back Xasay. I'm the last one to throw stones for having issues getting on to post - you are welcome to join the group
Berato, I truly like what you are trying to do but have been uncertain it would work on the dwarf due to the situation he's currently in. I've decided I'm going to give it a chance to work.
?:1d100 ⇒ 4(Did not work due to the 'Willing Creature' aspect) - I'll explain afterwards
Reaching forward to try and help the druid, Berato finds his magic fails. Leaping to his feet, Devarre shrieks "YOU DARE ATTACK ME IN MY OWN HOME?!"
Continuing his song up, Hamish quickly tumbles passed the beasts and sets up behind Vrothum's foe. Swinging hard, he manages to strip away some of the creatures vitality.
Bedisa shakes off the cold darkness seeping in before slicing a chunk off her opponent. She then steps back to give Trajan room.
Trajan moves up and ends the one called Fred, now that he has room as Yaiho slices a chunk out of the remaining foe.
In tandem with Hamish's distraction Vrothum tears the final beast to shreds as he shakes off their vile touch.
Combat Over! Final Stats
Vrothum (-6)
Bedisa (-2)
Searching the room, you find little of specific value, save several old bottles of fine wine. The two dead servants are completely unrecognizable due to the damage to their face. On closer inspection, you also note their lower jaws have been ripped completely off.
You feel your 30 minutes is about up at this point. Feel free to heal up, etc. You are able to slip back into the dining hall without incident if you choose just as the guest speaker finishes. The guests then start to file into the salon (area 4) where a quartet is playing.
I'll give you all a chance to heal and report back to Major Colson if you'd like before posting on the next part
“I’ve hunted for their source. It’s a big forest, though, so I haven’t had much luck. There are a few places I haven’t looked yet. If we split up, maybe we could cover more ground?” Devarre goes on to suggest a few more places to check.
"If two of you head o'er to southwest, about a days walk from here, there's a creature that may have some answers. It's past it's prime, but it'll surely see reason to help."
"Two of you could go to the upper pools in Dead Man's Drop and see what you find there..."
"The last one stay here with me and we'll research through some of me old books."
Kimo and Berato:
You realize there is something off about his mannerisms. It's obvious something important is at deadman's drop...but the southwest seems innacurate.
He is definitely hiding something and not being honest

Hamish calmly explains the way of things as he blesses his companions. Stepping out of the way, he is filled with divine confidence he is doing the right thing.
The hellknight quickly applies a violet goo to his weapon in preparation for the foes he's facing as Yaiho tosses a stone across the room. His aim is off though and it bounces harmlessly off the wall of the cellar.
Fury filling the tiefling's heart at the malicious site, he rushes up and bites a chunk out of the incorporeal beast.
Meanwhile, Bedisa takes on the opposing foe. Slicing through the veil, she wounds the one called Fred!
In retaliation both beasts reach out and touch the very souls of their closest prey. Vrothum and Bedisa feel a dark energy tugging at their essence.

"Fred, they've spotted us." calls out the one with a green hew. "As for helping us? Lay down and let us feast!"
Both creatures slide out of the wall and swing at the bard as he approaches...alas Hamish was prepared and easily side-stepped their translucent claws.
"Jim's right. We's got orders and we is hungry!" shrieks the other undead. "You'll all join us soon enough."

Guards seem to be acting normal. You haven't seen any servants away from the dinner party. They all seem to be diligently working at serving the guests
The cool, dark wine cellar has a flagstone floor and walls covered with light gray ceramic tiles. Its irregularly shaped walls and alcoves are lined with dusty shelves that hold an impressive array of wine bottles. Propped up against the far west wall are two naked forms, both covered with fresh blood. Though both are clearly female, their faces have been chewed away entirely, leaving them both unidentifiable.
Looking into the room, Vrothum notices something...The walls near the corpses...there are two flickering pinpoints of light about head high...
Vrothum:
You notice 2 somethings are in the wall
The red x are where you see them
As it stands, they aren't doing anything other than standing inside the walls
K Religion may tell you more - I assume Vrothum will share what he sees
None of the vials ring out as magical under your scutiny. Eyeing the vials, Hamish draws on his prior knowledge of alchemy...something...he's seen it before but...can't quite place what the substance is.
Opening the door, you see a large bearskin rug covering the cabin floor before stone fireplace on the far wall. A handcrafted table sits in the southwest corner next to a cabinet. The table is cluttered with empty cookware.
To the north, a stout wooden bedframe with a goose down mattress is covered in numerous furs.
In a seat at the table is a dwarven man. As the door opens, he seems to jump a bit. "Hey! Who'r ya? Whatcha doin in me home?"
In my experience, survival is usually used to determine how long the tracks were there.
As to tracks, you can easily note there is one set of tracks going in and out of the residence on the well worn path. With the massive perception you had, I'll even add the following... The tracks seem recent and used regularly
Blinking a few times, the chef seems to forget about the other pathfinders. Quickly leaping into a complicated explanation on how one prepares Hormigas Culonas, he signals to one of the kitchen staff to bring him some paper.
Scribbling away, he adds "Now, I won't tell you my secret ingredient. Can't have ya stealing my ways after all. But this shud getcha the basics."
Looks like overall majority is to stick together and checkout the kitchen first. Hamish suggested Pantry (8) and Storage Closet (9) as well. With the three being close together....
(7)
The kitchen, a bustle of activity, seems to be mostly unchanged since your last inspection. Leaning against the western wall, you note the master chef, Domeros Prinitar, eating from a plate. Spotting you peaking through the door, he lobs a dinner roll your way. "OUT! Guests not ter be in here."
(8)
Ignoring him, (I assume) you shuffle into the kitchen and glance in the pantry. While some items seem to be missing, presumably used in the creation of the feast, it still remains well stocked. "If you're still hungry, tell a servant and we'll bring you something else!" shrieks the chef.
A dull leather satchel shoved in among the jars of spices catches Yaiho's eyes though...
I'm still here - was giving Xasay a chance to determine if he wanted to use his lucky number, the flower, or just deal with the illusion and apparently lost track of time. Sorry about that :-/
Using the flower dispels the entire illusion. Everyone can now see the whole clearing for what it is.
Those that couldn't see earlier can attempt the knowledge check on the pillars if they'd like. K Planes
(D2)
Making your way deeper into the clearing, you spot a layer of pine boughs woven through a wooden frame. It appears to be covering...something. Anthys and Berato quickly realize this is meant to be a make shift pit trap. With a precursory glance inside, you notice the remains of an animal of some kind.
Heal Check DC 15:
It appears to be the body of a wolf that starved to death
(D3)
Beyond the trap, a solidly built cabin stands among the forest trees next to a small garden of herbs. A short trail leads past the garden to it's front door.
"I see you've had the pleasure of the Lady." snarls the Scion Lord in response to Hamish. "I see your point and will lend my aid."
2 successes - Influenced
~Trajan: Lady Vaelia~
Turning to the hellknight, she snaps "If he had been one to stand by he and my son would still live!"
Turning back to her food, she grumbles about pathfinders. Refusing to say anything more on the subject.
~Trajan: Senator~
"Valid points young man...Tell you want. I'll see to it a committee is formed to evaluate the request." he announces, glancing around to see if anyone important is looking his way.
~Loved the RP you put into that...sadly this guy is just...well...not helping you at this time. --> 0 Success: Not Influenced
Several servants appear and begin clearing the table as some of the guests stand and stretch. Lady Vaelia and Senator Augustyn take the opportunity to quickly move away from any perceived pathfinders.
Across the room, you notice Major Colson jerks his head towards the door. (Leading to the Great Hall) After a moment, he stands and stretches nonchalant.
Weaving through the crowd to offer a word here and there, he slips out the doors.
If you follow him...the following
The soft susurrus of servants clearing dessert dishes and esteemed guests shuffling about to hobnob with their peers echoes from the nearby dining room as Major Colson Maldris furtively glances about before speaking in a stage whisper. “Have you noticed,” he inquires, “that several of the serving staff seem to be behaving strangely? I have watched a handful of them, and I can tell you with some authority that a few appear to be under the effects of enchantment magic. They have not expressed any hostility, but this strikes me as the precursor of something far more dangerous."
“In a moment, Damien Blakros will introduce the esteemed Genedair, an esteemed veteran of the Mendevian Crusades and a guest of honor at tonight’s festivities. I trust that his speech will be suitably engaging to give you an opportunity to slip away and check the rest of the manor. If there is anything amiss, deal with any immediate concerns and then report back to me.” He spares a moment to glance back at the dining room before adding, “Under no circumstances are you to upset the guests. I will keep Lady Morilla apprised of the situation, and together we will decide what to do in the event of trouble. The feast must go on without any disruption, and I will stay with the guest to ensure that happens.” As he says this, Damien Blakros begins introducing Genedair in the other room. With a last look, Major Maldris salutes and says, “You have perhaps half an hour,” then slips back through the door to rejoin the party.
What do you do? Where do you go? Pieces are on the map
I've reached out to Mathos and I'm in a game with the player.
Recent RL issues seem to be preventing them from getting on. We will continue without. After the dinner part ends, it will be too late for Mathos to get full credit, but could hop in later for partial credit.
Sniffing the air as Hamish talks, Lady Vaelia rolls her eyes. "You don't say? An adventurer unfamiliar with good wine?"
"Though I must say it's not surprising someone so skilled in dealing with death worships it."
"Me use this? Hardly. I'm a lady, though another death bringer wouldn't know that." she replies to Trajan. "My late husband was quite the protector of our lands...before he passed."
Turning back to her food, she seems to ignore the bard and hellknight entirely.
If you'd like, Hamish can switch your second attempt to the scion. This response was to your first attempt
~Bedisa & Yaiho~Senator Augustyn~
"Oh? You cleared out the old building, eh? I suspect the Worldwound has many old buildings for you to scrape cobwebs off the walls in." he replies with a sly grin. "I dare say, I believe my young wife had done the same in a few corners of our abode."
~Grand Ambassador~
Listening intently, he nods slowly. "I must say, I am no fan of the Society you represent. Those two specifically" gesturing to Major Colson and Lady Morilla. "have caused me to lose faith in the Pathfinders."
Pausing a moment, he takes a bite and another drink of wine. "I'll tell you what. You are right in the threat we face. I'll risk the trouble and join your cause."
Grand Ambassador influenced Trajan, Hamish (if he choses), and Mathos can still attempt an influence, discovery, or aid check
Suddenly becoming popular among the pathfinders, the grandmaster keeps his composure as he listens to the discussion further.
"Valid points all. Though I'm uncertain it's in the best interest of my people."
Rubbing his chin, he nods. "We shall have to discuss this further."
1 Success - Not influenced yet
Damine Blakros suddenly appears, tapping a glass. "Quite please."
A hush quickly ushers over the room. "I would like to take this moment to thank you all for coming to my simple home." announces the Hellknight. "The staff have informed me they are almost ready to begin the first course. In the interim, allow me but a moment of your time."
"We've all heard of the Worldwound threat. Though for those not privy to the frontlines, it is more than hearsay. The vile beasts exploding into our world MUST be stopped. They are nothing but a mass of disorderly villains eroding this glorious world. A plague upon the plane!"
"Certainly the Hellknights have done well to hold them back, alas our power is NOT absolute. The aid of others is paramount to supporting our cause against these foes!"
"The Order of the Godclaw has issued you a call. How do you answer?"
"We supplied you order in the Crusades of 4623 AR and again we came to your aid...at the cost of our Cathedral in Mendev. Yet, we asked for nothing. Now, more than ever, you must answer the call. Not all can fight, not all can create, not all can grow crops...but ALL CAN do something to further the cause."
He continues to expand on the specifics feats of the Hellknights of the order of the Godclaw and their efforts in keeping the hordes at bay. However, his initially rousing speech seems to lose focus as he continues...
Some of the guests begin to murmur to themselves and roll their eyes...
Michellia Blakros interjects, saving the day. "Yes dead, they see your point. Alas, the staff is ready to begin serving."
"Oh, yes. Of course." replies Damien with a smile.
"If everyone would grab a seat, we'll get the first course delivered to you momentarily." adds the Lady Blakros.
--It is 730pm--
You will have the opportunity to attempt up to 2 more influence checks during the feast. However, you will only be able to talk with the two people sitting next to you during the meal.
Everyone select two people you wish to sit next to and you are then welcome to attempt up to two checks.

The Grandmaster seems a little preoccupied scowling across the room at Major Colson Maldris, though he half-heartedly glances towards you as you begin your speech.
The words flowing more and more from your lips and you seem to have garnered his full attention. Chewing his lip for a moment, he considers the words.
"Well, I can't deny nations that don't banned together against a common enemy do fall. However, I do know who you represent. Though power in numbers is a thing, one cannot through a handful of ants at a wall and expect it to crumble."
"Why should I risk my status and my people to aid your cause? You state you've fought at the front? Then you can attest to the enemy being held at bay, at least for the time being. Thusly, I've no need to risk anything to gain the rewards of you risking it all."

Scanning the room, he spies Lady Vaelia. "Oh, seems an old friend has arrived."

Some of the guests require more successes to influence than others. And some are more willing to aid you than others
--Lady Dyrianna--
"Hamish was it?" she inquires, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Such a handsome name. I'd surely enjoy a longer, more private chat with you another time."
Pausing as the Half-orc saunters over, she frowns. "It does seem later would be more appropriate. You must tell me of your upbringing."
Kissing the half-elf on the cheek, she moves to speak with another attendee.
*Success Hamish - You actually did well enough to count as 2 successes there.
--Lord Rothos--
Listening intently to Trajan's words, he nods slowly. Before he has a chance to speak, Vrothrum joins in and shares his insights as well. Letting the words sit in the are a long moment as he assesses the duo, he finally speaks.
"You speak truth. It is heinous that such vile beasts are allowed to roam free. They have no honor! No sense of duty. They are simple horrendous beasts slaughtering for the sake of it."
"This actually is a plight that sits close to my heart...I lost a close friend a long while back."
"We must keep Absalom strong. I look forward to speaking on this with you both further."
With an awkward bow, he steps away.
Success with the aid and unseen bonus. He only required 1 success and is influenced.
--Lady Vaelia--
"Pathfinder?" she snorts. "You lot tend to be thieves. Going to snatch my pearls, huh? I don't think so."
"You just run along and peddle your nonsense elsewhere."
In 1e, you don't autofail on a fumble for a skill check. However, she is not influenced by your attempt.
Suddenly, the door to the dining hall bursts open. An annoyed servant stands in the entryway. "Excuse me...Pardon me...HEY!" The room suddenly quiets down and looks towards the door. Taking an official looking pose, the servant announces "I present Senator Augustyn Naran of Andoran with the Lady Dalessa."
Behind the servant stands an obese man in his late sixties. Though the room seems comfortable, the man is obviously sweating. Both the stunning wife and the senator wear expensive formal attire. He wears a stylish gray-black suit and she wears an elegant royal blue gown studded with silver beads and glittering jewels. The sentator also wears a gold-pommeled silver rapier at his belt...though it appears too pretty to have ever been used in a fight.
The Senator has arrived. The guest speaker being later is not an issue as he's not technically one of the guests.
You each have time to try one more influence, discovery, aid check with someone attending the party before the food arrives
@Xasay, the +2 boost would not have gotten it either time. Your lucky number is still available. Also, the magical flower the dryad gave you would also work.
It is kosher
Xasay confirms there is in fact some kind of powerful illusion affecting the entire clearing.
Nat 1’s on skill checks aren’t automatic failures, right??
Natural 1's downgrade the skill success by 1 step ;-)
In 1st edition a natural 1 does not automatically mean a failure. However, it often times requires a higher die roll to succeed at a skill check. Who knows...your bonus may be enough. Though...it may not. We shall see.
Sunlight filters into this clearing, burning away the mist to illuminate a perfectly round hill dotted with fairy-cap mushrooms. Nearby, a small creek slowly trickles through a pond buffered by outcroppings of large black rock. The air hangs still, and even the sounds of forest animals seem absent.
While typically you would have to do more than see it to get a save, this scenario counted you seeing it as an "interaction" for the first attempt to save since you were able to talk with the 2nd dryad earlier.
This is an illusion (Glamer) and Berato can now see through it
Vindler notices the monoliths are exhibiting planar energies...but can't quite place them or the purpose. He also fails to identify what spell is currently affecting the clearing...though it's safe to assume it's an illusion.
Xasay Will?:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 Xasay still cannot see through the illusion

Shortly after you find yourself in the Grand Hall, the first announcement is made...
"Lady Vaelia of House Wintermark with Tamuel!"
Looking towards the front door, you see a venerable and frail woman walking with the aid of an ebony cane. She wears a stylish green and blue gown, a fortunes worth of jewels, and a battle-notched falcata of fine craftsmanship.
Walking alongside her is an elderly male with finely woven...plainer clothes. His attire seems to resemble those of the local servants, but made of much finer materials.
Immediately following...
"Lady Dyrianna of House Avenstar with Faelyn!"
This stunningly beautiful, slender half-elf wears a constant look of satisfied amusement. her emerald-green gown and matching lace shawl are conservative, but very elegant. No weapons can be seen.
A young half-elf man wearing matching garments enters with the noble. Her companion seems attentive, but quiet.
No weapons are noted on either subject.
"Lord Rothos of House Vastille; Captain of the First Guard, Commander Militant of Absalom!"
This tall, handsome man in his late forties, wears formal attire and a black military-styled long coat bearing his family crest and numerous military emblems. A longsword hangs from his belt and the silver-chased hilt of a dagger peeks out of his right boot.

A cold, pale beauty with piercing gray eyes and long blue-black hair stands in the doorway alone. She wears solid midnight-blue wizard's robes and a dazzling mithral tiara studded with rubies, emeralds, and sapphires. She appears unarmed.
"Grand Ambassador Dremdhet Salhar with Lady Anilah!"
Dremdhet Salhar is a heavset man with well-oiled hair and beard. He and his wife both wear matching gold-embroidered silk robes in the Osirion fashion, as well as a fortune in gold rings, necklaces, and other jewelry. Salhar wears a jeweled mithral short sword at his belt.
For those keeping track on your list, someone is missing @Trajan: None detect as evil
"Welcome everyone!" announces one of the servers. "Please, follow me for some pre-dining refreshments. All this way please." Quickly, all are escorted into the Dining Hall. (Room 6 - Slide 4)"The feast will properly start in about half a candle." he announces, retreating from the room.
It is 7pm. You have 30 minutes to mingle with the guests before the dinner/feast officially begins.
In this scenario, you will have multiple opportunities to try and sway or influence the guests to benefit you. You can opt to attempt a discovery check instead of an influence check when the opportunity arises to learn a little more about each guest.
Your main options for the influence checks are Bluff (to pretend to be friendly) and Diplomacy (to be genuine). Something else you can make thematically appropriate...could potentially work as well. Discoveries may give you other options.
At this current point in time, you may each give me one attempt to attempt to influence someone, aid someone else in influencing, or do a discovery check. RP can potentially gain you bonuses to rolls - I will handle those aspects
Edit: Don't forget to specify whom you are speaking to among the guests
I would allow Knowledge Nobility or Local to get a little about the npc guests ahead of time. This scenario doesn't give much in regards to knowledge checks in the setup.
It'll likely be afternoon/evening before I get a chance to get the post up with the guests arrivals.
The assumption is you explore the manor completely prior to the party. The room descriptions spoilered above is what you observed.
Pulling a crinkled piece of parchment from his pack, Tespen hands it over to Trajan. "Here's the expected guests. Each is allowed to bring a companion or friend. I've added the names of the ones I am aware of. As for the servants, I don't have that list on me, but wait a moment and I'll retrieve it."
Servant's list...numerous people named John and Jane Commoner. Domeros Prinitar, the chef, is also listed
Notable Guests:
Senator Augustyn Naran of Andoran and wife (Dalessa Naran)
Lady Vaelia of House Wintermark
Lady Dyrianna of House Avenstar and male companion (Faelyn)
Lord Rothos of House Vastille
Scion Lord Kerkis of House Damaq
Lady Darchana of House Madinani
Grand Ambassador Dremdhet Salhar
Genedair of Iomedae (Guest Speaker)
White Grotto Orchestra
While each of you garner strange looks from the servants as you test the available options prior to the part, Major Colson joins Hamish for a smoke.
"Well, you ready for this affair? Remember, our goal is to get enough votes to support our cause. You are welcome...and expected to partake if the evenings entertainment. Just don't overdue it and keep your mission in mind."
"Guest should be arriving shortly. We'd better make our way to the Great Hall. They'll announce each as they arrive." Shorting his cigar, he sighs. Taking a moment to ensure his clothes are in order, he leaves the smoking room.
Trajan does not detect any evil presence during the tour of the manor. Assuming you will do the same when the guests arrive on them, I'll advise as they enter.
@Berato - you see your companions seemingly taking a much closer look at the mushrooms on the hill. Though they seem to be looking in the air above the mushrooms.
As a reminder, Xasay and Berato still cannot see this
Three massive monoliths of eldritch stone rise from this circular hill, etched in ancient runes glittering with powerful magic.
Knowledge Arcana and Knowledge Planes can give you more information about these stones/monoliths - these are different checks so you are welcome to roll both. Also, spellcraft will give you an idea of what magic is preventing people from seeing this place.
For Xasay and Berato
As you watch, a family of deer cautiously step into the clearing. Looking first one way and then the next, they dart across the open field and stop near the water's edge. Leaning down, they begin to drink in turns...always keeping one attentively scanning the clearing for danger.
"I've served the family for a couple decades now. These parties tend to be a lot of setup and then smooth sailing, but we must always be prepared."
"The guests are welcome to bring their own security, but their personal guard details remain outside. You will be the only additional security within the manor proper."
"The event will primarily take place in the Great Hall and the Dining Hall" he advises. (Rooms 3 and 6)"However, the whole of the main level is accessible during the evening."
"The master's trophy room is upstairs, as is the drawing room and library. However, none of the guests should go into the private quarters or the servant's quarters without an escort."
"Likewise, there's few reasons the guests would need to venture into the cellar. The servants can retrieve any wine or supplies the guest may need. Personally, I'd prefer we corralled the guests more, but the Master feels they should be allowed to roam." growls the gnome with a sigh.
"Most of the staff has been with the family for some time. I vetted each of the guards on staff and the servants. The only addition is Domeros Prinitar, the chef. He was brought in special for the gathering."
"Primary access is through the front doors here. The only other access to the manor is through the grounds. There is a gate in the back wall and entry to the grounds through the stables."
"I've not had any personal dealings with any of the guests we are expecting this evening and nothing unusual has been noted as of late."
Finishing up the tour, no one notices anything unusual and no secret passageways pop out. "Well, if there's nothing else, I must attend to my actual duties. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck and enjoy the festivities."
Room Descriptions:
1. Stable: The stable currently houses the mounts belonging to the Blakroses. Seven stable hands (Human) remain here, caring for the animals.
2. Kennel: The kennel is a roofed, open-walled structure surrounded by a 5-foot-high wooden fence. It is home to five wolf hounds owned by Oved Blakros. The hounds are well-trained show dogs, and though they look menacing, they are quite friendly.
3. Great Hall: This massive entry hall is well lit and sparsely furnished. The fireplace on the east wall is large enough for an adult human to stand inside. Mounted on the wall above the fireplace is the stuffed head of a large- sized draconic creature with shiny blue-green scales (a sea drake per your guide). Four house guards are posted here.
4. Salon: Several comfortable chairs and sofas sit in this well-lit room, a place for guests to relax, enjoy music, and conversation. A string quartet from the esteemed White Grotto bardic college has set up in the northwest corner.
5. Study: This room contains a large desk, three leather chairs, and cabinets containing various curios and minor art objects.
6. Dining Hall: This spacious room is heated by a large fireplace and lit by two massive crystal chandeliers. The walls are decorated with painted murals of horses galloping through vast green plains. The largest feature in the room is a huge, U-shaped oaken table.
7. Kitchen: The kitchen features two large fireplaces, a wide oaken table, and numerous wall mounted counters and cabinets. A staff of six cooks (Human Male) are constantly hounded by foul-mouthed Domeros Prinitar, a renowned master chef brought in from Oppara for the event. Prinitar scowls menacingly at you when you peak into the room.
8. Pantry: The pantry is well stocked and located adjacent to the busy kitchen.
9. Storage Closet: This room contains tools, linens, barrels of water, and other mundane items.
10. Shrine: The dusty, somewhat neglected shrine features marble statues of the gods Abadar, Calistria, Desna, and Shelyn. A small brass brazier burns fragrant incense here to help mask any smells coming from the privy (area 11).
11. Privy: This room holds a porcelain toilet, a wall-mounted wash basin filled with rose-scented water, and a rack of hand towels. A small brass oil lamp on the ceiling provides plenty of light.
12. Smoking Room: This room is used by Oved and his special guests to smoke and relax. A cabinet holds a rack of scrimshaw, clay, and ivory pipes, pouches of mundane and exotic pipeweed, and a box of expensive
cigars from Ilizmagorti.
13. Garden: A cobblestone path winds through the gardens and opens into a well-trimmed lawn bordered by shady trees to the east and west, a flowering hedge to the north, and a tall stone wall to the south. A wooden gazebo sits near the back of the open area.
14. Wine Cellar: Wooden racks line the walls and alcoves of the wine cellar holding hundreds of bottles of wine from across the Inner Sea, including several vintages worth over 100 gp a piece. A fieldstone-rimmed well stands in the western alcove. The well is covered by a heavy oaken lid and is locked. A wooden bucket attached to a 60-foot length of silk rope sits atop the well’s lid. The well shaft is 4 feet in diameter and descends 40 feet before it taps into a freshwater aquifer.
15. Trophy Hall and Gallery: This large open area has a polished hardwood floor. The walls contain the manor’s best paintings and trophy heads, including Blakros family portraits dating back centuries.
16. Drawing Room: This room contains a billiards table, a rack of pool cues, a couch, several chairs, and a fireplace. Long, white dust cloths cover all of the furniture.
17. Guest Bedroom: This room contains a fireplace, a bed, and a dresser. Long, white dust cloths cover all of the furniture.
18. Serving Maids’ Quarters: Three double-bunks occupy this room, along with six small wicker chests containing the maids’ clothing and personal effects.
19. Library: This library has comfortable chairs surrounded by shelves of books.
20. Master Bedroom: Everything in this luxuriously furnished room is covered in long white dust cloths.
21. Private Bathroom: Similar to area 11, this room also contains a vanity table and mirror and a large porcelain bathtub.
I'm going with the assumption Xasay didn't drink any Xasay Will:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Any trained can do a craft alchemy check on the alcohol if desired to see what effects would happen on a failure
While everyone seems to feel the affects of the alcoholic drink, all handle it like dwarves.
Eyeing the scene, Vindler, Anthys, and Kimo watch as the image seems to shimmer a bit and fade away. Before them lies three massive monoliths of eldritch stone atop a circular hill. The stones rise from the grassy knoll, their ancient runes glittering with powerful magic...even to the untrained eye.
On the far side of the clearing, through the fog, they can just make out a solidly built cabin standing among the trees. A small garden sprouts nearby a few fee from the cabin's front door.
Xasay and Berato, however...fail to see anything beyond the fairy-capped mushrooms donning the small hill in this picturesque clearing.
"If you feel it'll help, you may share the information about the Citadel. However, if it's not required, it would be preferred to not share too much. At least not yet."
~~The Next Night~~
You all arrive on time. You exemplify the timeliness of the Society! Before you stand the three captains and the hosts of the evening. Major Colson bows to the landowners and turns to you.
"Some may already be acquainted, but for those that aren't, allow me to introduce Mr Damen and Michellia Blakros."
The one identified as Damien Blakros, nods. "Ah, yes. The pathfinders you selected." Looking each of you over, he shrugs and snaps his fingers. Immediately numerous guards appear, seemingly from nowhere. Guesturing towards a burly gnome, he advises "This is Tespren, captain of my guard. As you can see, we should have things well enough in hand. However...if the need arises, I am always pleased to have the aid of the society."
"Tespen will show you around. Michellia and I have matters to attend to before the gala begins."
Without another word, the master of the house retreats into the expansive dwelling. Michellia offers each of you a polite curtsy in turn before vanishing as well.
The gnome steps forward and motions for you to follow him inside. "I don't mind showing you around, but there is a party this evening. Please stay with me and don't dillydally. I'm responsible for the safety of everyone here this evening...including you." the last bit he pointed states to Shadow Dragon.
I'll assume you follow him in. As he shows you around, you are welcome to ask him questions/talk to him.
Among other things that make this scenario different than normal...you get to start seeing the entire map and knowing what every room is. I will preemptively apologize for anyone using their phone to access maps/post. In my experience slides with more than a couple maps tend to cause issues in the mobile access.
Slide 3 lists the rooms by their number. Slide 4 is first floor, slide 5 is second floor, and slide 6 is the wine cellar.
Taking another long drag, the treant smiles. "Yall hear of Faegard, yeah? It's a prison ya know. First World fey laid dem stones ta lock away one o' dem own...an evil queen and sorceress named...what was it. Rhoswen? Yeah. Twer Rhoswen. If 'n the fanegard be broken, only one o' them elder fey would know how ta mend it. We'd be in summa real trouble den."
All who willingly drink the alcohol he offers needs a Fort Save
He happily gives you 4 gourds of the stuff to keep, if you want it.
The rest of the night goes smoothly. Early the next morning, after your standard preparations, he leads you deeper into the forest. Stopping just short of a clearing, he points ahead. "Be in dere. See ya later and g'luck."
Knowing this is supposed to be the druids home, you all get a free Will Save roll
"I really don't expect the Onyx Alliance to get involved today and we don't truly know much about them. What I do know is they seem to be an alliance of shadow creatures that desire wealth and slaves from the material plane. We don't currently know why." replies Lady Golariana.
The major thinks long and hard on the question. Ultimately he shakes his head. "I really couldn't tell you. It's highly recommended you try and get as many on our side as possible. However...I feel Andoran's may prove...more difficult to persuade, if at all."
With a broad smile, Valsine nods to Yaiho. "Right. Very good. Be on best behavior and try to show the rich people they should help you."
"If there's nothing else, you have a short time to grab anything else you feel necessary and meet us back here in one hour. We plan to arrive an hour before the other guests so you may get a lay of the land."
Make any final purchases. I'll push us forward this afternoon.
Raising a hand Major Colson growls. "I'll take this one." "These are numerous nobles from throughout the realm. They have the means and influence to make of break us in regards to the Society's interests here."
Unfortunately, they won't give you specifics on each of those in attendance. There are discovery checks you can make later to gain more information on the specific people.
"In regards to the Worldwound? It's quite a ways off from where you are having your chance to shine. While no one an say what the future holds, we chose you for your skills in dealing with dignitaries."
Lady Gloriana turns to Hamish and smiles. “While we don’t expect any major problems, the Blakros family has made many enemies over the centuries. We suspect the Onyx Alliance might still pose a threat, since its attack on the Grand Convocation was only 2 years ago. Though the Worldwound is far away, if word of the feast and the Pathfinder Society’s plans has reached the creatures that control that blighted land, we might have to deal with their minions. The Blakroses assure us that they have security under control, though, and that the Pathfinder Society attendees probably won’t be required to engage in any combat.”
"That said...those that have had dealings with that family...well you know how things tend to go with them."
Vrothum there is nothing in this scenario for a knowledge roll on the sky citadels. However, looking at the scenario where they are actually dealing with it (the season 6 special) it calls it out as a dungeoneering or history check
Sky Citadel's Common Knowlege DC 10 History or Dungeoneering:
The sky citadels are massive fortress-cities the dwarves built millennia ago. Each one is heavily fortified and can weather the mightiest assaults. The most prevalent language in a sky citadel is likely Dwarven, so an explorer would do well to have at least some means of translating text if they ventured within one.
Artifact Wardstones - Vrothum:
A wardstone is a minor artifact in the form of a menhir inscribed with runes, and is designed to ward out demons of the Worldwound.
Between the material its composed of and the runes, it somehow helps to combat the demonic taint.
Inside the meeting room at the Pathfinder Society headquarters Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin stands at the end of a long table. To either side of him stand Lady Gloriana Morilla and Major Colson Maldris.“Thank you for coming, Pathfinders,” Valsin says, gesturing for everyone to sit, though he remains standing. “As you may have heard, we recently discovered the location of a lost dwarven Sky Citadel. I won’t demean your intelligence by stating the significance of this discovery, but suffice it to say the potential rewards for exploring the site are staggering.”
He turns to face a map of the Inner Sea on the wall and pokes a location with a loud thump. “Unfortunately, the Sky Citadel is located within what was once Sarkoris—the demon-infested region now known as the Worldwound. After a long debate and careful planning, we began to recruit military aid to push into the demon-haunted land so we could reach the site; however, before we could make any significant gains, Mendev’s wardstones—a collection of minor artifacts designed to keep the demons from pouring out of the Worldwound—began to inexplicably fail. In short, there’s a hole in the dam and demons are trickling into Mendev in greater numbers. With Mendev under this new assault, we realize that in order to reach the Sky Citadel, we must aid the Fifth Crusade and help turn back the demons"
“Since the nations of the Inner Sea are not reacting expediently to the danger presented by the newly invigorated Worldwound, a small cadre of concerned Pathfinders—including Trade Prince Aakir al’Hakam, Paracountess Zarta Dralneen, the Sapphire Sage Amenopheus, Lady Gloriana Morilla, and Major Colson Maldris—have united to leverage their influence. With my support, they plan to petition the Grand Council of Absalom and persuade them to issue an executive order to send soldiers to Mendev immediately."
“To increase our chances for success, we called in a favor from the Blakros family, who remain grateful to the Society for recently saving the marriage of Michellia Blakros and the Hellknight Damien Kastner. The newlyweds have organized a dinner party with an impressive guest list to be held at Fiddlemourn Manor. Lady Morilla and Major Maldris will attend, and they plan to use the feast as an opportunity to convince some of Absalom’s elite to support the upcoming motion. We need you to mingle with several important guests and befriend them so that they are more disposed to throw their support behind the Fifth Crusade. These special guests include Senator Augustyn Naran of Andoran, Lady Vaelia Wintermark of Taldor, Lady Dyrianna of House Avenstar, Scion Lord Kerkis of House Damaq, Lord Rothos of House Vastille, Lady Darchana of House Madinani, and Dremdhet Salhar, the Grand Ambassador of Osirion."
“The feast is tomorrow evening. Though the Blakroses are handling security, we want you to attend in your full adventuring regalia to help solidify your role as representatives of the Pathfinder Society and lend credibility to any claims you make regarding your knowledge of the Worldwound and the worldwide threat it signifies. We also expect you to provide additional security if it’s needed.”
Valsin levels his solemn gaze on everyone at the table. “Remember, this is a social gathering. It’s crucial that we make a good impression on the guests, win their support, and improve the Society’s standing with them. Without their support, our motion to the Grand Council is doomed to failure."
You may now ask them questions. There is no standard list of knowledge checks available for the start here
Still a bit weary of the wayang, the massive creature turns to Berato.
Tired of me already? We've only just met....
Wary even... ;-P
Glancing up to the sky through the trees, Vinroot takes another swig of his alcoholic beverage. "Likely best ta wait till light comes. Unless yall don't need ya sleep. Met a few in me time that didn't. If ya want, you lot can sleep here. Have a drink with an ole tree." he replies with a broad grin. "I'll try not ta loose meself in the sap this time."
"As fer finding it? I can take ya there but I've got other business ta handle in the morrow so won't be staying beyond showing ya."
"Gotta finda way to get those damnable shadow gnomes back in the faengard 'fore they ruin the realm."
Still a bit weary of the wayang, the massive creature turns to Berato. "Dvarre? The druid?!"
Considering it a moment, he responds "That druid communes with plenty o' forest folk. He'd likely lend a hand. Findin' him's tricky, dough. He made 'is home near a site o' powerful socerey. Them dryads could prolly tell yuh where it be."
Taking another swig of his hollow gourd, he nods. "Ne'er turn down more water. Any tree that do....well aint a good tree."
Holding the gourd out, he smiles. "You lot are welcome to a taste if ya like."
"Names...well...huh. Been a while... Just call me Vinroot. I've been standin in this forest far longer than anything else."
