Fyird shares the spoilered information above, and suggests that they could prepare for the assault and continue forward. Perhaps a short rest first to recover some hit points and/or abilities? "Should we perhaps pull back a bit and rest before we move forward? I could stand to re-wrap my wounds before risking them reopening in combat"?

Fyird places a steadying hand on Joxi's shoulder when he notices her mood. He leans down and whispers reassuring words in her ear. Don't worry. I don't trust them either, but the knowledge they possess might keep one of us alive. We're not making life long friends, just have a common objective at the moment.

Fyird steps back a little confused as the others talk about him being in a Goblin lair. Thinking this might be some kind of ruse, as he knows he's fought nothing but Orcs in here, Fyird waits to see where the conversation goes. He might be useful if we can get him to cooperate. Maybe we can bargain with him to provide us information as to the layout of the caves.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 DEX Save Fyird seems frozen for a moment, surprised that the creature exploded like that. He was almost convinced it was an illusion. But manages to dodge out of the way of the worst of the ice shards. He then stedied himself, and took a shot at the steam creature. Joxie> On Tool proficiency. If your background, race or class gives you proficiency in a tool, then you add your proficiency bonus plus the appropriate ability modifier. You must also possess the tools in order to use them. Just having proficiency doesn't mean you have the tools in question. Also if you have the tools but not the proficiency you can still try, but no proficiency bonus, and the DM might change the difficulty level depending upon the tool. Anybody can pick up a drum and play it, but try that with bagpipes and we'll all have to make will saves. Often in 5E it is better to assist someone else rather than make two attempts. In this instance if you have thieves tools you would be a+5. 3 for your dex, and 2 for your proficiency... however it would be mechanically superior for you to assist Fyird with his lock picking, which lets him roll with advantage. Just a note. Don't take Fyird's attitude with player attitude. He's just a bit of a nasty temperament, confrontational elf, who is more comfortable with wild animals than getting along with other civilized humanoids... and he's survived so far, by relying on his instincts, and dexterity. This is a fairly slow posting game, so some inter-party role play to me makes it more fun. If you want it toned down, just let me know. It won't hurt my feelings :-)

With a quick jerk of his head, and a holding of one finger to his lips, Fyird hisses silence at the call for goblins. "What are you doing? I understand you wanting to get your blade wet with goblin blood, but we have no idea what other threats await us. Did you not hear that none return when venturing here? I have a feeling you'll have a chance to whet your appetite for destruction, but might I suggest we accomplish this on our turns".

Fyird drops to one knee onto the ground, and looks for signs of the goblins passage. Fyird had counted out the 75 GP beforehand, as he knew that this would be his opening bid. He approached the goblins and paid, taking possession of the golden apple. He studied it a bit before handing it off to Whendace. His mission completed, and the left over gold heavy in his purse he listens with eagerness as his travelling companions consider the plight of the lady. Well, this group seems capable, and I'm free at the moment. Perhaps I'll tag along... who knows the origin of the apple might reveal itself as we help out. Don't really have any clues otherwise.
