Everybody hears a SUV engine rev. As they turn to the noise, Rynar sits in the driver seat…grinning.

“Who’s riding with me? Cor, Jorsein…how ‘bout we take the lead?”

He has a hand outstretched to Zaeta and Crastor offering each of them a commdot.

A text message comes through for Rynar also ... "Ry? Maybe be a little more careful than the escape from Andúril, k? I want EVERYONE back."

OK then, after looking back at the briefing we got, I do think that maybe we get involved here after all. If I'm wrong, Cor will take the blame upon himself for making a bad decision. But he does want to first make sure whether Sundstrom has been in communication with the ship at all, and if there are any orders in place that he won't be violating. We'll take as many vehicles as the ship can spare, leaving at least one in case of emergency, as well as any security personnel that can be spared without jeopardizing the safety of the...

A text message comes through Cor's comm unit as he arrives in the cargo bay, "My friend, remember that the greatest weapon against the weak is FEAR, and in my line of work, I have had a target painted on my back most of my career. In a war zone, only dead soldiers cease to be a problem, and hospitals are designed to keep soldiers alive. The Imperium doesn't need to create fear here, but I felt that we did. I want these rebels to understand that the Skander isn't some friendless free trader trying to turn a buck. In all honesty, I also wanted to create a little plausible deniability for you; blaming the uppity doctor is another classic war strategy that I am happy to allow us to leverage. Bring your swords home wet ... I will be waiting.

Fifteen minutes ago
As Freyjason leaps from the ground car, the smart fabric of his vaccsuit is already reconfiguring; no longer sporting the chic look of classic formal wear, the doctor was head-to-toe in white, ready for surgery. There were lives that needed to be saved. He touched his collar to activate his comm ... he had no time to turn around.


"Z, what's mine is yours. Go to my quarters, the medkit I have there is better than anything else the team has. At the arms locker, retrieve my laser pistols, give them to anyone who can use them. The access orders for both were already filed by my suit's computer. Be safe and be bold.

Now ...
The doctor entered the operating theatre which had been hastily erected outside of the Skander's Docking Bay: he hoped against hope that he could stabilize his charges enough to bring them inside to Medical. The odds seemed long but he'd stared these odds down several times on Narsil. He wasn't going to fail now.

Skander receives a comms signal, quickly relayed to all of you.

"Sword Worlds ship, this is Captain Jorsein of the Bularia Mounted Constabulary. We have wounded. We do not know which hospitals are in enemy hands and the army's single aid post is overwhelmed with casualties. We have civilians who need medical attention, some critical. If you have medical facilities, I am requesting...begging... you to admit our civilians. Even if you don't, you do have bulkheads and can offer sanctuary to the non-combatants while the Constabulary gets back into the fight for our planet."

"Captain Jorsein, this is Freyjason, Chief Medical Officer of the Skander; we will aid your wounded. Proceed with all deliberate haste to our ship, I will be there as soon as I can get there. Skander: direct medical staff to set up field triage immediately."

Frey takes a deep breath, "Others, who may be monitoring open comms; you will NOT attack the wounded. Attacks on those who have requested medical amnesty will be considered acts of war ... against the Sword Worlds. Your best course of action now would be to direct your attention to other Bularian targets. No Sworld Worlder will allow you to attack someone under our protection without reprisal."

"Cor - I will stop short of declaring this a Medical Emergency, for now. If there is ANY hostile action against wounded, that will change."

Pretty sure ITG means Ground Car (Injection Time Gas)

PAX is an abbreviation used in transportation and hospitality for PASSANGERS

Looks like planetary forces fighting each other, and the government has it well in hand. No hostages or noncombatants to save that I can see... and they are headed towards the ship. Maybe we should go back and change?

"It has been an incredibly long day, and I know I am tired, but did we seriously just see a bunch of local rebels trying to attack the Skander, only to be pushed back by Tauntaun mounted local cavalry? Did that really just happen?"

Cor shakes his head as the brash crewman puts a hole through the fence. "Well, if the rebels didn't know where we're at, they sure as hell know now. Let's move fast." He leads the others, along with the civilians, across the distance as fast as they can go, his carbine held at the ready as he exchanges words briefly with Rynar and keeps a watchful eye out. When the armored vehicle rolls out, Cor motions the others onward toward the ship. "Let's go! Run as fast as you dare, but don't lose your damn footing. A twisted ankle would slow us down to a crawl! Crastor, you take point! I'll take rear guard! Frey and Zaeta, keep this mob together and keep an eye out as best you can to watch our flanks!"

Standing guard as the civilians get loaded up as much as possible, getting the slowest ones into the vehicle first. The rest of us will follow in their wake on foot (jogging along as fast as we dare), and hopefully Rynar will get to the ship and back out to pick the rest of us up before the rebels get here. I think it's only a half mile or so, correct?

Frey quickly scans the injured, trying to target who would really need assistance, and who might just need a stim.

MEDIC(4): 4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 1) = 9

That's right. I don't believe there are YET any breaches in the fence, but it looks as though Rynar's about to make one.

Those of you hiding in the culvert hear the loud CRASH as the ship's SUV slams through the fence and comes bouncing along the ditch outside the spaceport. Rynar has arrived.

"Thank goodness you were able to practice that time you backed an ATV into the ER ... this was MUCH smoother Ry, nice work!"

I took the Bobba Fett referrence to be an example of a ship hovering slightly in place to bring to bear ship board weapons to shoot targets horizontally at ground level. Don’t think that was a swipe at me. Frey was just piggy backing on my question…I think…

Otherwise, Rynar will have to blacken Frey’s eye!!!

My instincts say that Rynar blackened the doctor's eye at least once on Narsil ... the hospital itself was a war-zone more than once

And that’s when the ITG hears a Comm transmission, “Ja Doc Freyja. You ready for a ride? I have your posit! Will be there in a few minutes. Low crawl only enough asses to fill one truck-load to the curbside. Don’t be seen. 5 for the cab and perhaps 5 more to lay in the back. Not gonna be a smooth ride! We’ll make multiple trips to get the rest! How many souls total need to be brought in? Give me two shooters in the cab (1 per side) and 1 or 2 for the bed. This Aint gonna be a smooth ride, but I strung cargo straps across the bed for folks to lay under or hang onto. “

Then you hear a war cry, speed metal, and the sound of a truck engine revving before the Comm transmission cuts.

Reynar leaves vehicle lights off and is driving with aid of his IR/LI goggles. His Fletchette pistol in his right hand, steering mainly with his left…

Plan is to proceed down a path that leads to the fence line where the small patrol is not present and Ram through the fence. Then drive with reckless abandon for the curb side to pickup 10 souls and bring them back in the same way.

"Rynar coming thru!!! Just like the Emergency Room on Narsil ... glad you didn't go soft old man! We have wounded out here, we need you badly!"

No one said you couldn't. Not with the gravitics, because A) it don't work that way and B) it would require taking off, which is bad. But yes, the ship has weapons. They could be used. However, remember that ship-to-ship weapons are MASSIVE on the scale of ground combat.

Anyway, the fact that another player who isn't located next to your character isn't doing what you suggest just means he's playing HIS character.

Apologies: was meant to be illustrative, not insulting. Not particularly a compliment to Boba either, just situational of what I thought could happen. But if a ship cn't pivot like a grav-car ... then it can't, and we did all already agree that we would NOT be engaging in any take off activities.

There is nothing that says the ship cannot move
There is nothing that says the ship cannot fire weapons
There is nothing that says the ship could not rotate to bring its weapons to bear on almost any target nearby (like Boba Fett did on Camino)
There is also nothing that says the crew shouldn't support the legitimate government of the planet or that any act which would do so would in any way risk a war (with who?) or not actually be expressly in line with creating goodwill with the people the Skander came to initiate trade with in the first place

So I'm still not sure why the ship cannot create a diversion by blowing us a hole through the fence, and then repeatedly bombarding the gate so that everyone's attention is focused elsewhere while we all roll in.

Can we fire up the ship gravitics so we can aim her at the gate? The boss doesn't want to lose the ship, but I'm willing to bet that he doesn't want us to cower under the Imperium either. Character sheet is finished. I moved some skill levels between some of the skills that were elective (not specified by dice rolls).

Would like to establish connection to Crastor to gain Recon 1 and Freyja to gain Computers 1. Could have been from Rynar Term in University (maybe a University exchange trip), Term 2 or 3 in Marines, or Term 4 or 5 in the SW Patrol (law enforcement) Investigative Branch. Perhaps one of those connections led to Rynar joining the voyage.

With the ongoing fighting on Bularia, and Rynar Bodo conquering his recent demons, the fighting will break Rynar out of his funk and he'll get back to himself.

I can totally see an internship or exchange having happened at Narsil Memorial; hospitals are always lookig for free talent.

All thhe goodwill (and leverage) are with the Skander if we can evac everyone there. Presumeably Lady Estrella would accompany us. Very solid move politically, with both the locals and the Imperium. Frey would also have access to Sick Bay versus trying to make Field Medicine happen.

"Let's get them here. We need supplies, badly."

Yes. If you're going to hole up, you can do that.

Frey isn't going to back a plan which puts actual real people who should be saved at risk. There is nothing discussed which remotely makes this basement thing seem viable; at this point, it's like killing everyone who needs to be stabilized.

We took down what they thought they needed to take the room, do we really think they're going to reinforce with more than that? Coming through the city with opposition that's aware of them? Let's have the ship fly over the City Hall and pepper the terrorists with ship grade weapons. Let's have Castor remotely fly his shipsboat into their artillery or something.

Killing the people we worked to save isn't the best option.

Crastor was hit. Did anyone else take damage? I am not sure two of us are going to clear this building. Especially if we are going in down to begin with.

Couldn't we fortify the room we are in a little?

Use the tables as barriers?
Set up a triage center?
Make sure all the civilians and injured are covered from sight?

I'm trying my best not to put my thumb on the scale or indicate that there's some "right" answer here. There isn't. There are definitely more exciting pursuits and less exciting ones, but those are your choices to make.

You don't know this city. If you want to know about safe places (or any places), why not talk to the many NPC's around you?

I don't like games where there is only one right answer or where the GM tells you the "right" combination of buttons to press. I've just created the situation. You guys figure out what you want to do. Hole up and wait? Fine. Go out and attack? Fine. Something else? Fine.

Just do what seems FUN to you.

I don't know about the whole universe, I guess, but I just had this feeling that Sword Worlds doctors only save 'good' people. So he blasted the 'evil' people ... until now. Now though, he's going to save people, because that's what innocent people deserve. I may even re-write the Hippocratic Oath for the Sword Worlds ...

I also don't think that, "So you want to split the party" is some "harbinger of doom" phrase. As a GM, for me, it means I need to keep track of 2 locations, end of story. In this case, to me, it makes total sense. We need 2 groups. We need an infrastructure/support team, and we need a recon team. Simple. It's exactly what we need right now.

re taking orders: we all know what we signed up for. I mean, we ALL. Us the players, and us the characters. So really that's taking orders AND giving orders.

Hopefully no one in their right mind would even imagine the idea of coming into Frey's Sick Bay and demanding anything, let alone giving an order without checking with him. Yes. Including Skander. We can imagine Frey putting him on notice in their interview process, like why else would he take the job? The money we aren't making? NO. Because that's the way the world works and he wanted to be part of the success of this mission.

The opposite is true too though; the chain of command is the chain of command. If a senior officer lays out a plan which presents no direct conclict to "First, allow no harm which isn't previously agreed to" Frey is going to comply. That's how the world works.

Anyway ... I had some thoughts so I thought I would share them.

Cor ordered me to stay with the civilians, along with Frey. He is in charge. I am following orders.

This is correct.

Cor glances at Crastor and Frey. "I'm not certain how we'd even go about sending out misinformation broadcasts, but if you have concrete ideas let's hear them. And I agree we need to get the civilians out as soon as possible, but the streets outside are dangerous, we can't send them out into that. We've got a good perimeter established here. Let's see about defending this floor and our charges as long as we can, should the rebels try and breach our position."

He thinks about the situation for a few moments, then comes to a decision. "Zaeta and Frey, do what you can to calm the civilians and treat their injuries. Tell them we're going to hole up until army reinforcements arrive. Crastor, come with me and lets see what we can do about making this place defensible. Estrella, you are invited as well, if you'd like to join us. Any suggestions you have would be well received, I should think." The scout does what he can to determine choke points, easily defensible hallways and doorways - anything at all to give their relatively few armed combatants a chance to defend against an incursion.

So each rebel had a body armor, one weapon and one back-up magazine or power-pack. We've also got one enemy communications unit. Were there four rebels in all, so we each have our pick of gear? Cor has a laser carbine and back-up power pack I guess, which suits him fine. He wouldn't mind a body armor as well, if we have enough to spread around among the four of us. Crastor can carry the rebel comm and track anything they might be trying to communicate? Is there a skill for that?

Frey obviously did okay with his laser pistol, but he would take a laser carbine if there is one

"or ... we also could take a look at the attack/response patterns of both the government & the rebels, look at how they have reacted to the information broadcast by the Imperial Captain thus far, and come up with a series of misinformation broadcasts that will sway the outcome of the rebel advancement."

He also asks Lady Estrella to please look for Imperial guests and dignitaries so that he can prioritize aid to them.

Crastor: Yep, that's right.

Freyjason, what do you mean when you say you're going to cover her? Are you laying down suppressing fire? Or just planning to shoot anyone that threatens her? I'd like some more details, please?

When I posted, I meant the latter, yet I like the principle of suppressing fire. No one else is all that important other than the Imperials & the Skanders. FFrey wants to make sure the Lady isn't harmed.

We are merchants. I am not sure we should pick a side here. Whoever takes over will likely need to work with outsiders.

Picking sides is something that happens in politics ... this is not that, this is terrorism. If these people were demonstrating OUTSIDE it would be another thing. Attacking guests at a party is just being a criminal with a cause.

No one really would have anticipated a repeat of the red carpet, but there he was, Dr. Frey whirling to shoot down the gun barrel like he was the opening of Dr. No (from Terra in the 1900s, old calendar) It's pretty much an exact repeat, except for his sighting laser is very quickly follow by actual laser file as the pistol discharges

Frey smiles, quite earnestly in fact. In his own case, medicine was the family business. He had to wonder if this young lady was from a naval family ...

So the doctor is the most heavily armed party member!

The reception is at the City Administrative Compound and it is obvious that the locals have pulled out all the stops to impress their visitors. Crowds (small ones and carefully selected, given the travel restrictions) gawk at your motorcade as you drive to the central administrative building and camera lights flash as each of you steps out of the vehicles.

"Over here!"

"Look this way!

"Who are you wearing?"

"Can we see a pose? Um, no, I meant her."

"Show us some Sword Worlds swagger!"

Your hosts lead you into the building, away from the cameras and crowds. You are treated as visiting dignitaries, your armed security personnel standing discretely by.

Tell me how you handle all this! Do you like the attention? Is it annoying or exciting? Do you feed the crowd or scowl and ignore them?

Like the attention!? Heavens no, Frey's a lady! LOL j/k, even his mom isn't really a lady ;)

Pure mischief plays across the doctor's face

Frey winks at some nearby journalists, touches his collar and says, "FRIGG, White Tie Protocol, now" ... then whirls 90' towards the upcoming stairway, just like the James Bond gun barrel sequence, his tux now bright white, his laser pistol pitch black, and the deep deep red of his sighting laser striking the steps ahead of him.

It’s been a full week, so I want to check in and report that I have pneumonia. My recovery has been decently effective, thanks to heavy doses of...whatever it is they’re giving me. But I’m still quite tired. I’ll be trying to post in some games no later than tomorrow.

Well at least someone you know (game with) knows what you are going through. As am asthmatic, it was one of the worst things I have ever experienced; my doctor said I was hours away from being hospital-ready when he saw me.

Stay strict with your treatment please; nanites and restoration spells are a few years out last I heared ;)

Touching his collar to activate voice control for his vacc suit comp, Frey says, "Frigg: check local news chatter for any mention of police activity, martial law, or heightened enforement moves in the city."

I think I'm confused at this point... We had a reception on the last planet, Darrian - which we've already attended. According to your post for the current planet (Bularia), I'm reading "Sundstrom has pre-arranged his meeting, having sent a representative to Bularia some months ago. He hopes to strike a lucrative deal to market and export yellow leaf, whose mild medicinal properties have impressed him. He is also taking members of the senior crew with him to impress the merchants’ consortium. This leaves Cor in temporary command of the ship." Does that not mean that Cor is being specifically left behind? Again, I'm fine with going to the 'ball' if I'm invited - but I read that post as saying Sundstrom and all the other senior officers (with the exception of Cor, who is supposed to stay behind to take temporary command of the ship) were heading there.

Crastor, Skander is sitting on the downport, so there is no need to take your shuttle. You're already down.

So who's going out with Crastor? And where are you going? Port brokers? Bars? Out in the downport? Out in the world beyond the downport?

By the way, the remaining ship's officers (including you) have been invited to a reception at City Hall in 24 hours time. Crastor would be expected to be there, as senior officer, so splitting the party might not be an issue.

"Friend Corellon, there's always someone well trained enough to stay behind: not so with those who can help in the field. Magnus will be just as tractable if you join us and delegate watch to the 3rd or 4th Officer. It's actually your call now that your in command.

Frey remembered any number of nights being Admin Lead at the hospital ... and he had always felt the OR or ER were preferable.

"Team: no doubt I am a little biased, but let's call a thing a thing here, this planet is TL5. We could make a killing if we were to set up a medical supply contract. On a planet like this, a basic Medkit from anywhere in the Sword Worlds is like being able to use magic. That holds true in many many other markets. Let's see where they're hurting. Thoughts?"

If they make it to her across the dance floor, Zaeta will step aside with them and consult her portable computer.

I can confirm that we can carry that amount of cargo, and that we can pay for it. Is this something that you can get for us on a regular schedule?

If it is illegal, she uses the portable computer to send a message to Sundstrom about the nature of the inquiry as she is probing for additional information.

Either way, she delays with questions rather than authorizing the transfer, waiting to see what other information they can gather.

"I, for myself, am thrilled that you would come to us with this kind of offer; an offer worthy of the Sword Worlds. An offer to help make other cultures and worlds stronger and safer. This is why we are out here!"

When Cor is made aware of the offer, he glances at the others. "We'll need to bring Sundstrom in on this, I think. Assuming it's all on the up and up. What do we know about Ms Sonosori?"

Obviously not asking this in front of her, but it does seem kinda fishy...

It does, but if we maintain interest, maybe we can uncover who else this type of deal is/was offered to. This is exactly the kind of intel Sundstrom has asked for.

"What an extraordinary offer Ms Sonosori! May I introduce you to some of my colleagues? I am sure they would be equally intrigued."

Frey extends his arm to the lady, and begins walking her towards Zaeta by the dance floor ...

Frey focuses where he is the most comfortable; business people and entrepreneurs. These are the people who were the most interested in supporting research at the hospital on Narsil. He is listening for sustainability issues they might be having: artificial habitats are plagued by them in most cases.

Frey smiles, chuckles, and pinches the left cuff of his jacket

Freyjason's suit shimmers and morphs, very very quickly changing his look.
The result was extraordinary.
