Female Halfling Witch 1
Fen follows into the depths, and as she does a voice floats through her head "Put them to sleep." Or was that her own thoughts? A slight smile creeps over her lips as she knows what to do. Prepares to cast sleep on whatever icky things she finds. Affects 4HD of creatures, Will DC 14.

Sorry, had a bit of a crazy week and then I forgot where we were. perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 Not really being a fighter, and not exactly sure what kind of gear would help anyways, Fen hangs around on deck waiting for the rest to be ready, a worried look on her face.
Female Halfling Witch 1
Fen looks unsure for a minute as her new pet splashes around in the water, then looking around quickly, jumps in after her with a shriek of glee followed by a large splash. swim: 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 4 = 28
Later that night at dinner she decides she's still not quite ready to try another dose of rum and quietly dumps it under the table. stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

cool, that worked perfectly. I'll update my profile shortly with spell selection. Fen blinks several times, a look of confusion on her face. She slowly turns and looks when Sandara begins to speak, and her normal cheerful demeanor gradually returns. "I'm friends with the cook - he seems a decent fellow. When he's not drunk, at least..."

Fen giggles as the otter climbs around her. "Why hello there! How did you find yourself on this ship?" Picking the animal up, she inspects it and continues. "Well at least now I'm not the only tiny girl on board. What shall we call you? How about...Maya?" Ohhhh! She's so cute! Maybe I'll take the otter as a familiar after all...and the monkey can be the ship's mascot?
Female Halfling Witch 1
I think I'm gonna stick with the monkey - I know I haven't done anything about it yet, Fen's just registered in her mind that she's seen it and it's there. I imagine her next interaction will be more...productive. That said, she'd be happy for another pet - you wanna make a random roll or something to choose what animal she finds when she opens the bag?
Female Halfling Witch 1
I agree - especially with this bunch I think there will be a good deal of comic relief, and that's totally cool. That said, let's try not to let it get too over the top, and remember we're still trying to play a fairly realistic game here. I'm a HUGE fan of vivid descriptions, and always encourage my players to describe what's happening in their actions instead of "17 - I hit for 6 damage!" Show us what's happening in the text, and then if needed provide the mechanics in ooc. We do need to remember that these are open, public boards with younger folks and those with sensibilities around, so there are times when description might be "too much". I think the PG-13 guideline is a good one to follow. For skills, I'm fine with it being transparent to me most of the time. You can roll whatever you want and use whatever mechanics to make things happen, and just tell me what the results are - I don't need to know how or why you got to that point. To me that helps with immersion.

Well, Ornotck has volunteered to pick it up - I'd be perfectly happy to have him run it. Several of us have enough experience with PbP DMing that we could certainly help with some of the finer points, so your inexperience shouldn't be an issue. You've certainly proved that you know how to RP well enough, and that's really what's most important. If you do decide to pick this up, you could NPC Ornotck until he dies, we take on a new crew/ship, whatever. Or we could just keep him around as an NPC for that matter. I suppose it'd be up to you if you want to recruit a new player for your replacement at that point.

I have all the books, but really don't have the time to run an online campaign. Nerk is right, it takes a pretty large time investment. I'd love to keep this going though, since I think we have a great group. I think we'd have the best chance if one of us wants to take over since we're already invested in it.

Chinese take out and a night together working on things in the apartment could be really fun actually. Won't work with every lady, but then again that tells you an awful lot about her. As in the immortal words of Wayne Campbell: I say hurl. If you blow chunks and she comes back, she's yours. If you spew and she bolts, it was never meant to be.

Ugh. Woke up super early this morning, realized it was super early, and closed my eyes again - didn't open them up until 15 minutes late for a team meeting. Rushed downstairs and called in remotely - luckily I can at least do that, but wasn't good to be late....guh. Wednesday.

Haha, I don't think I've ever actually seen those rules used in play before. I've been reminded of it recently as a couple of my players have had their characters shacking up regularly and I've threatened that there are rules for getting pregnant and I can look them up. I do have that PDF lying around somewhere, maybe I'll dig it up...

My longest running PbP (been about 1 1/2 years now) got a little further than this before the GM disappeared. One of the other players picked it up and it's turned out great (and we ended up recruiting a new player to replace him) - but far more games just die and nothing becomes of them. I think we've got a fun bunch here, so I hope it keeps going one way or another.

profession(cook): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 Despite having never done such a daunting task, Fen manages to slaughter a pig almost her own size without it trampling her, and spends the day helping to prepare it. While cooking she sings. "So hoist up the Wormwood's sail, see how the mainsail sets,

Fen tries to peek out from behind the larger folk to see what is happening. "What's going on? Why are we fighting?" I'd love to help out but I literally have no combat options at the moment ;). Maybe next round I'll try an aid another attack or something. Until then - I'm here for moral support! Go team!
Female Halfling Witch 1
haha...I didn't actually have any gear - and at this point am pretty much less than useless in combat (especially since my strength is down to 6 after all that ale). But hey, I can cook a good pirate meal! Fen barely even notices the embrace from the goblin as she tries to figure out why her head is pounding so badly.

perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Fen enjoys her meal and drinks down her rum with vigor. This stuff is fun - it makes me feel....strange.... After her meal she returns to the deck and leans on the rail, looking out on the open sea to watch the sunset. Her mind is conflicted between the beauty she sees, the funny large man she spent the day cooking with, and the cruelty she saw of the poor man who was drowned.

profession(cook): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Fen coughs when she first sips from the bowl, but tentatively tries again and ends up drinking the whole thing. She passes the day chatting happily with Fishguts, and somehow manages to throw together a decent meal despite her first taste of rum.
