I apologize for being absent the past 2.5 weeks, first the work convention, then inundated with family and friends Thanksgiving week, and then there was this week, let's just say it was one of those weeks. I'd like to join back in, but would understand if my protracted absence is problematic. Again, I apologize and would hope you can let me join in the fun again.

Back from the convention - I'm catching up this evening.

I'm flying out in the morning for a convention this week. I'll check in on the campaign probably once a day, but if delayed, now you know why.

Erisa, surrounded by rats and backed into a corner, desperately tries to cast a spell, motioning and chanting in a droning tone.

HD: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
Duration: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3

She'll cast Hypnotism (DC 15 Will), but being in combat, the swarms receives a +2 bonus. I'm actually surprised swarms are affected by mind-affecting spells. :D

Erisa grimaces at the disgusting rats as they swarm over her and bite her. She jumps back and offers up a prayer.

5' step out of the swarm and she casts Bless.

Erisa stands at the ready to see how the ratlings react, "I don't know what they're saying, I'll do whatever you suggest Saiya."

"No, it didn't which confused me at the time. That's a good theory about why it acted that way."

To Vixen in a whisper, "I don't know they won't turn, but I'd like to go have individual looks at them and see if we can tell. I just don't want a general panic and everyone staying away from the wounded and not treat them, that just makes it more likely for them to turn."

Know (Religion): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Erisa sees who Vixen is glancing over at and subtly shakes her head and her mouth does a small "shush" lip pursing with no sound, "No, I'm pretty certain you need to eat human flesh, preferably dead human flesh, ghouls often tunnel under graveyards to eat the newly buried bodies. No one here needs to worry about having been clawed by them. The first ghouls ate the rotting remains of their kin, died from a foul disease, and became ghouls. We can discuss it later when we aren't around these wounded people - I'd prefer to not upset them."

She inclines her head in the "do you get what I'm implying?" motion.

"We will definitely be better of with you Saiya if you feel up to it." Erisa adds.

Where I grew up, from what I can remember, there were many undead. Is a ghoul eating a human cannibalism?" she says and seems to think about it.

"All I know is that cannibalism is one of the quickest ways to become a ghoul."

Erisa wakens feeling refreshed, "That was the best sleep I can remember having. Granted, the only other sleep I can remember is the one in the boiler room."

I've saved my last two healing spells so I can heal you back up VV when we rest. Getting you back to full was more important than bringing the child or mother to full.

"Good thinking Saiya, I'm very glad we didn't have to do anything to it." remarks Erisa with great relief.

I'm not exactly thinking going through the wall is an option so much as her mentioning anything to avoid having to eradicate the thing and listen to it wailing in pain until it finally expires. :D

"Winter pulls back the curtain after she explains the situation. A gigantic eye gazes from the center of a funguslike wall that's tough as wood. Where the eye's iris would be is a set of viscous looking fangs. The sound of three overlapping, drowned-sounding voices whispers mournfully, "Who am I become?" It then begins crying tears that smell of ammonia."

Everyone make your SAN check or lose 1d6+6 SAN :D

"I think it can't see because it has a mouth for a pupil." remarks Erisa. "Can we go around it by tearing a hole in the wall?" she asks.

I'm back, sorry about that - I don't get to spend an entire weekend with my 7 year grand-daughter very often. Unlike raising my daughter - I don't just tell her to go off and occupy herself for hours - its zoos, science centers, movie marathons, and lots of ice cream :D

Catching back up.

I'm babysitting last night, today, tonight, and tomorrow morning. I'll be able to update after that marathon tomorrow afternoon :D

..dopplegangers and undead appearing from out of nowhere..
..an earthquake..
..poison fog..
..blood rain..
..creepy monsters in the fog..
..patient uprising..
..fanatical devotees..

I must be the most awful person. As I was reading, when I hit the line, "Then the patient uprising happened led by Ulver Zandalus; doppelgangers and ghouls started appearing wearing the faces of doctors, orderlies, patients. Then an earthquake hit and destroyed the second floor."

I started to laugh thinking, wow, this must be the most cursed place ever. What else could go wrong?

Then more bad things were mentioned. Poison fog, blood rain..

I laughed even harder. Perhaps it was just the "and then an earthquake happened" part that triggered it.

Anyway, time to deal with the fanatical followers and their crazed leader. After all, the writers put a whole lot of effort into keeping us from wandering off. :D

"Any amount of information you can reveal would be appreciated." she concurs with Saiya. "Earthquake? Apostles in Orpiment? There are so many things we don't know anything about."

Erisa looks around and sees that the wounded are not going to die from their wounds and decides to hold onto her spells for now, in case there are enemies here. She thinks, "I can always heal people before I rest."

She'll look over Saiya's shoulder as she looks at the boy thinking, "I've read a book on human anatomy, let's see if I remember anything."

Untrained Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

Surprised that she remembers exactly what to do for the boy's injury, she'll say, "I can do this Saiya, I remember reading about how to handle this sort of wound." And then she proceeds to treat the boy.

Depending on how you do leveling, Erisa may have an extra spell per day or so for healing in the chapel.

Some do "nothing gained until you rest" and others do "gain the new stuff, but your currently used stuff doesn't change until rest."

This whole post is ooc, I'm not up for ooc blocking every line :D

I'm assuming we get to the chapel before the 10 minutes of the Deathwatch spell are up.

Being much better with books and libraries, Erisa does not have a good bedside manner. Instead, she scans the room magically determining the status of everyone before going to help anyone.

It doesn't help that she has zero heal adds, so her only hope is to use Deathwatch to triage. She has two CLW spells and her Stabilize ability left for the day.

This is where the HP based system kind of breaks down in an RP vs mechanics perspective. I'll describe mechanically how I'm looking at things. Then, I'll do an RPy post after finding out the disposition.

If there is one under zero and losing, she will Stabilize.
If there are multiple, she will CLW the worst ones and Stabilize a third.
If everyone is in "1+ hp" range and not going to die, CLW isn't going to do anything 'useful' for them that bedrest couldn't.

She's a bit leery of everyone and thinks that one or more of them are shapeshifters and she might need her spells.

Erisa will csat about with her deathwatch spell - it lasts for 10 minutes, so she'll scan everything while she can.

Erisa sees Saiya go down and moves closer to her but is unable to reach her just yet. While she's next to Jass, she'll touch her, "Good luck on your next shot."

Updated Erisa's position on the map and since she's next to Jass, she'll cast Guidance.

Erisa wonders what is what and decides to determine what is happening, she casts a spell and starts to scan around the room.

She casts Deathwatch and tries to determine what's alive, what state they're in, etc.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

"Perhaps you're right and I'm being paranoid. This place and us being here is unnerving." Erisa shakes her head.

Erisa looks puzzled, "Meep? What sort of ravenous undead goes 'meep'? And the look in its eyes was not the look of a ghoul. They don't look at anyone with pained, soulful eyes for any reason."

"Perhaps you should belay releasing the crazy person for a second until we examine the ghoul's body more thoroughly." thinking for a second more, "And anyway, how is acting like a maniac somehow proof that he isn't a shapeshifter."

Erisa is in no way skilled in forensics, medicine, or anything else relevant. But definitely would like further proof that the undead was indeed undead and not something magically disguised as one to lull us to believe the weirdo was legit. She'll look at the body to see if its skin, blood, etc are like that of a ghoul. She'll cast Detect Magic, even though it won't show illusions. Maybe a polymorph effect?

Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Frustrated at her lack of knowledge in this area, she'll ask, "Can any of you examine the undead and verify it wasn't something else put here to fool us?"

Erisa comments, "Kill the undead, I've lived too long in Ravengro to have any sympathy for them."

Erisa wakes up with a start at the thundercrash. She looks monetarily confused as if she heard it scream her name. She shakes her head thinking it was merely the remnant of some bad dream.

She sees that Vixen is conscious, "Excellent! I'm glad to see you back among the living. And still injured it seems. Let's see what we can do about that."

lol - I appreciate Malarra's points but I'd like to continue this AP - I like my character concept. I vote yes.

I've looked at the recruitment thread and I'm fine with whatever changes - to me the mechanics aren't the important part. These mechanics are strange enough I'm surprised any DM would take them on.

It's been a crazy couple of days - sorry for not being on since Saturday. I'll catch up today.

I'm back from my vacation - I'm really hoping Samy comes back.

I'm flying to London Sunday and Monday - I'll be on different hours while I'm there and on maybe once a day for a week.

Erisa replies, "Sure," and grabs the extra blankets. Once she's in the boiler room with the rest she'll ask, "Three? Where are we going to find the other ones? Did we miss a door or something behind which more are hiding?"

"Perhaps we can barricade ourselves in the boiler room and rest for a short while," suggests Erisa.

Woo! Nice time for a crit :D

Ah, it appears that Saiya is the only one of us besides me with CLW.

Erisa bends down to staunch Saiya's wound. She chants a short prayer. Her hand glows as she covers the wound with it.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

The wound mostly heals, but the dark skinned woman does not wake up. Erisa covers the wound again with her glowing hand.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

The wound heals nearly completely and Saiya begins to regain consciousness.

Okay, let's hope you have healing spells left Saiya, because I'm tapped out for the day.

Erisa sees Vixen fall in front of her and she stares into the unnatural eyes of the creature. She feels a shiver of fright tremble through her. Taking the fright as an inspiration, she yells, "Flee!" at the frightening monster.

She casts Command (DC 13) at the creature. It looks like it may have no way to go back and must flee past us.

In case that happens, here's the AOO:
Heavy Mace: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8
Which fails.

If it saves and attacks her, she'll use Misfortune on it if it rolls greater than a 7 (it looks like it's +8 and she's AC 16.

Erisa moves up behind Vixen and casts Guidance on her, "Here's a little luck to help."

Erisa walks into the room with the old woman, looks around, and notices that it's a room with no doors. She sighs, "I guess we need to deal with the folks down the hall behind the barricades. One way or another."

"Let's try to reason with them again. Failing that, I have a spell that can, hopefully, convince a couple of the to not harm us, but I don't think I can affect them all," she adds.

I have Hypnotism, Charm Person, and Command as spell options.

Erisa nods down towards the end of the hall, "Looks like we ran out of doors. Time to go past that rubble."

Well, it's over before I can even post :D

Erisa comments, "I wonder how tough the janitor around here is if they can keep those things in the broom closet?" she considers, "Or perhaps they just lose a lot of janitors."

She pokes her head in and starts to look around for anything interesting.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Grabbing the sunrods she asks, "Who wants one? I can cast a light spell, it's not as bright as these, but anyone who can't produce their own light should probably have one incase you're cut off from the rest of us."

"Off to the next door everyone?"

Erisa goes back to trying to retrieve the two sunrods from under the boiler - she crouches down, casts mage hand, and moves them to her.
