Great list - happy to see "The Black Hole" get a nod

Agreed. The Black Hole is still my go-to movie for moody gothic sci-fi. And Maximillian, one of the scariest robots to ever come out of film.

*just stares at the Oblivion*

That's just not cool. :_(

Oh hey, Hobkins are the Hopskinville Goblin, aren't they? If so, Kentucky monsters represent!
And it's not just the look either. I wrote these little buggers, and if you compare the special abilities to the account of the Hopskinville Goblins, you can see how that would have played out to match if the real world used Pathfinder rules.

I think you are just my favorite person ever. Just sayin'. :D

Man, I should totally make an Alias with a Lumanara avatar for whenever I post in Adam's thread. Preferably whenever I post Power Rangers-related questions. >: )
I love the Lunarma. It's pretty much replaced the Grell as my favorite Aberration. It looks like a Metroid and a Tentacruel had a horrifying, spiky baby.

See, I love the Lunarma, but the impression I get from both the text and the art is that they're some kind of Invader. Possibly from Space.

Dropping down from above, spitting globs of acid on their foes as they drop in ranks from the sky...

I'm cautiously optimistic about the Velociraptors... if they have art, I hope they are /resplendently/ feathered.

I just want to note how absolutely thrilled I am that Mothman, a monster local to where I grew up (well, 50 miles, but that's close), gets so much mention in Pathfinder.

The layout may not be for everyone but believe me seeing one page on the screen does not give you the full effect of what this layout does. When you have the book in your hand and are flipping through it you will be able to find items a lot quicker and find exactly what each item does without scanning through walls of text.

...and yes I did that layout of Dragon Warrior for Nintendo Power.

That is so awesome I don't even have the words. :D

You know, I was looking at the pictures, and something's been nagging be about them, something familiar, and I think I finally figured out what it was. Almost certainly accidentally, they feel very similar to entries from ancient NES RPG strategy guides, like the one for Dragon Warrior back when Nintendo Power did one. Or maybe it's just the art.

Either way, that just makes me smile.

Just before the first game start I am going to play Hoist the Colors off of a pirates of the carribean soundtrack. I hope it will set the mood for the ap.

That is exactly what I'm planning to do, too. Such a great piece of music to set the proper mood.

Gotta respect the fez. Fezes are cool.

Mathias is a dhampir, a renegade son of an Ustalav noble who decided that the ways of his immortal father and his kinfolk were not for him. He's not exactly a good person, but neither is he evil like his vampiric progenitors. His struggle is to better understand humanity and to learn not to despise the weaker creatures - a struggle especially among the prejudiced people in his native land, who see his pallid appearance and sharpened teeth as a clear sign that he is a monster.

To protect himself and to dedicate himself to Pharasma, he summons forth Xead. Xead is a gaunt figure wrapped in dark robes, a skull-like mask staring out from within. He does not fight with natural weapons (though he has powerful claws on his legs), instead using a scythe. He's recently grown black-feathered wings, though he soon may learn to fly without them.

And yes, Mathias and Xead are exactly who you think they are, if you're a fan of certain Konami games...

Idea I had at work today.

If you want to have a safe demiplane, create a linking plane between your plane and the Material Plane.

The linking plane is a vertical dead magic shaft. The only way in and out for anyone who /isn't/ you is to go through that dead magic area and climb up.

And have an adamantine golem waiting for anyone who comes through without permission, because if you've already wasted THIS MUCH MONEY, why not have an adamantine golem?

:D

Most people think of Elric or the numerous Death Gods in Bleach, but when I saw the bladebound archetype, I immediately thought of a Keyblade wielder from the Kingdom Hearts series; the keyblades may not be sentient in the conventional sense, but they are very picky about their wielders. Now if I could figure out a way to have the black blade unlock any and all locks...

Clearly you need your giant key to have a 'Keychain of Open/Close' dangling from the end of it. Just make up an unslotted magic item that can attach to the hilt. :D

It wouldn't be a Keyblade without a keychain.

Of course, you could always make a magic item of it. It'd just take years and years of constant work to make!

The Genesis Gauntlet.

:D

Alchemist here. I still don't think it's going to work. :D

I totally heard the Dragon Warrior level up music in my head when I read that.

Just as planned.

The sivanshee was indeed intended to be a familiar option. There SHOULD be a CR 2 outsider for every alignment now for spellcasters who took the Improved Familiar feat.

What about Lawful Good? Archons don't seem to offer a familiar option, unless Lantern Archons were slipped in somewhere and I didn't notice. They're not listed under improved familiar or in the Bestiary.

In the first six volumes of the Pathfinder AP, we did precisely this. We opened each bestiary up with a "police line-up" style image of the monsters in that bestiary next to Valeros for scale.

Alas... it became pretty clear pretty quickly that this idea wasn't great. Since monster art comes in all shapes imaginable, and since some monsters are vastly bigger than others, making this happen right ended up being weirdly super-complicated.

As a result, it's not something we're all that eager to try again.

I could see it working as a poster, but /I/ wouldn't want to be the one doing that art finagling.

Size and reach work fine by me.

Don't tell us what's right
Don't tell us what's wrong
Too late to resist
'Cause Cobra is strong
