Female human Rogue 5
One of Eglantine's hands goes to the hilt of Flax's greatsword as the blade drives home and she pulls herself upright enough to look him in the eyes one last time, her bloody finger tracing his lips. "I claim blood debt my Lord. Know that this will never truly end." As her body sinks out of Yomi's reach, she is smiling. -14 at start of her next turn. 2 surges remaining. Second Wind not used.
Female human Rogue 5
"My Lady?" Eglantine sounds astonished and slightly amused, well aware of her own fragility, but she responds in elven. Her tone grows stern. "My Lord has injured my friends in an affair concerning only he and I. Before I claim blood debt, tell me how, in honour, we may end this duel. I will not smirch my Lord or myself in this matter." She shakes her wet hair out of her face and swims further away from Flax. To O7. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 - Athletics check to stay swimming

Deft strike lets you move two squares before the attack - which is what she did. Ghostwalker just lets you substitute a free shift after the attack if you don't move before. Have I got that wrong? If so, I'll need to do a rethink.
The sequence was move two as part of Deft Strike, then run into the water getting as far away as possible.
Female human Rogue 5
Eglantine steps quietly away from Flax and throws her dagger at him once more, her face unreadable. As calmly as if she were on a summer walk, she runs a pace along the bank and slides herself into the millpond, swimming towards the centre. She makes no attempt to dive. 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 271d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 82d8 ⇒ (8, 2) = 10 Deft Strike, inc CA and SA damage v Flax. Moving to H14 as part of the power. Millpond calm water, I hope and trust Mr DM sir. If so, she's running which should get her to L10.

Cyrus - EDITED Spoiler:
I'm honestly not sure. As far as the agreement goes, that is fairly specific. Only those two, but an attack that does no damage ... interesting point.
Eglantine herself is somewhere on her own. As her player, I'm frankly astonished and terrified by her. I'm just rolling the dice and letting her write herself. Instinct says cast and get out. Cyrus is dazed though, so unless he's got an AP up his sleeve, that's not really an option. Once he casts, he's a target, he needs to be able to go at once. Flax has set a precedent for collateral damage, but he included Eglantine in the attack. It may be within the spirit of the duel. Not helpful really. You have to do what Cyrus feels is best I think. Everyone else Spoiler: How's it going with raising support? You've got incoming fey due any time now and they won't be happy :D
Female human Rogue 5
Posting in advance for when her turn comes up. If Cyrus does flank, the initial attack has a +2. As of start of this turn, she's on 22hp and bloodied. 2 surges left. Spoiler: Eglantine smiles exultantly. "Truly so, my Lord. You are always honourable. Trust that there will be blood. And love." Her eyes never leave Flax's face, but she nods at Cyrus and Yomi. "Go friends. This is no longer your place. Tell them that the storm will surely come and that our defense will be honourable." She leans in to Flax and kisses him, one hand in his hair, pulling him towards her. "You are mine my Lord. I mark you." Quicker than thought, the blade glints in her hand, sending blood coursing down Flax's face and into his eyes, blinding him. The dagger drops lower and plunges once more into his shoulder. Still smiling, she traces a finger over his lips and spins away, feeling the poison drain away from her wounds as she goes. 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 272d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 3) + 4 = 10 - Blinding Barrage (AC) v Flax. Close blast 3. On hit, he is blinded to the end of her next turn. 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 301d4 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 92d8 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 - Stealth to try and stay concealed from him as she shifts away. Shift to G16 1d20 ⇒ 20 - Save v necro
Female human Rogue 5
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 161d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 Eglantine feels her luck leaking away as she stabs uselessly at Flax as he looms over her. "Enjoy your victory, my lord," and steps aside, ghostlike. She shakes her head slightly to rid herself of the festering wound and the glamour of Flax's personality. Deft strike. Misses. Feat allows her to shift one as a free action after the attack. Shifting to G17. Both saves made in earlier post. Spoiler: She's trying to maneuver him into a position where she can get flanking from either Yomi or Cyrus. She's got very little time left if she can't get some sneak attack damage in.
Female human Rogue 5
Where is Flax? Did he use a ranged attack to get to her? Also, I miscalculated her hp and have now amended them. She's on 44 after taking the ongoing necrotic. "Not so my lord. Surely you are not blind to the folly of mortals? When you win, my lord, and my body lies where it longs to be, at your feet, your stakes will turn to dust and ashes. Interference is a small thing. What can be greater than dying for love? Do you think I would challenge you for anything less? When you win, there will be no interference. There will be blood shed for love." 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32 - Bluff I'll roll the attack when I know where he is. Doing the saves now. 1d20 ⇒ 20 - save v daze
What the hell is going on here?
Female human Rogue 5
Yomi's healing power pours through Eglantine, closing the worst of her wounds. "We are feeble mortals and must take what we can, as scraps from your table. Interference is many things, my lord. My name is Eglantine Prakseda. It means the lithe wild rose." No longer bloodied. Nice roll :) Thanks.
Female human Rogue 5
Yomi, could you possibly chuck a healing word her way? Eglantine dances lightly past Flax, switching places with him and ending on the riverbank. Flax's blow makes her head spin, but she grabs every advantage that she can. "My lord, your word is your bond. We agreed not to interfere should you win. We never agreed not to fight." Spoiler: Bait and Switch (Will) (1d20+10=28, 2d4+4=11)
Power allows her to swap places with the target and then shift 3. Moving to H18. Save v daze (1d20=2). Still dazed.
Female human Rogue 5
Stepping lightly across the bridge, Eglantine's dagger flashes as it tumbles through the air, pushing Flax off balance and away from the river's edge. "Back my Lord. Your destiny does not lie in Riverbend, any more than mine." The dagger glints again as it returns to her hand. Move to M17. Impact Shot. If it hits, pushing Flax to G17.
If it hits, she's invoking the daily power of the dagger to deliver 5 ongoing acid damage (se)
Female human Rogue 5
Eglantine's smile matches Flax's as she salutes him. "It is as you say my lord, we will fight to the death." A fierce joy takes hold of her and her eyes brighten. She knows that this is the moment she was born for, wherever it leads her. Can she take a second wind at this point?
Female human Rogue 5
Eglantine breathes deeply and feels time slow down as she contemplates her next words. When she speaks it doesn't even sound like her own voice. "I will meet you at the dam on foot my Lord, you as well as I. Poor mortal that I am, there can be no honour to you in this duel if you are riding and I am not. We must abide by the laws of your realm and bargain, must we not? This much I learned from your brethren. By what terms shall we determine the winner?" Walking to Q17
Female human Rogue 5
Catriana Windrunner wrote: Practically staying means letting Flax do whatever he wants in Riverbend in case that he wins. Also, they fey wouldn't like any interfering with the duel, and if any of us would it would probably just cause the big fight we tried to prevent. Moving to the other side would give us at least the tactical advantage. Yes. You get a little more time to prepare. Just depends how long Eglantine can hang in there. Maybe two/three rounds if she's lucky. Use it well :)
Female human Rogue 5
Eglatine meets Bren's eyes and she smiles gently. It's a very private moment. Then she nods quickly and looks at Yomi and Cat. "My Lord will surely grant you honourable passage if you stay as witness to my folly." Spoiler: She's going to die. Without flanking she'll last one round, two at the most I suspect. It would really help if Yomi or Cat could stick around long enough to dole out a healing/majestic word.
Female human Rogue 5
Nature check to steer horsie (1d20+1=11) Grasping the reins and winding her arms around Flax to do so, Eglantine can't quite manage to steer the horse. "Sweet killing Lord, you must guide me in this as everything else." She lets the reins fall free and kicks hard.
Female human Rogue 5
Couple of points. First, what sort of DC is she looking at and second, can Cat's offer of a skill bonus come into play here? Half terrified and half exultant, Eglantine leans forward and kisses Flax's neck. "I will be yours, in life or death. We fight on the ground, away from the millhouse, my Lord. I will meet you on level terms or none." All free actions I hope. Waiting to hear on the DC and Cat help before she tries steering the beastie with her +1 nature skill...
Female human Rogue 5
Bren and others Spoiler: Depends how Flax himself reacts I think. Eglantine would rather not die, and she has no chance in a duel with him unless she has someone around to force him into flankable positions. If she can get him back over the bridge and he accepts the challenge, it would help hugely if someone else was there to keep moving around and provide that flanking. If, as seems more likely, it all goes Pete Tong, focus on taking Flax down as a group and then head through the portal to deal with any incoming fey and warn the village. Tactically, the ettercaps are our biggest problem. They've got all kinds of slowing an immobilisation powers. Eglantine won't know that however.
Female human Rogue 5
"Hold fire. I have challenged your lord. Don't smirch his honour." Eglantine's voice is high and clear as she drives her dagger down into Flax's shoulderblade. "Fight me beloved. Let me prove my worth to you." The attack is almost a caress. Sly Flourish (AC) (1d20+10=23, 1d4+6=7, 2d8=6) Can she reach around and grab the reins to try and take control of the horse? If she can do that, she'll try and steer it back over the bridge, ideally running the black fey down in the process. She's used her standard to attack him to get the SA damage, but she has a move and minor left and an AP at the ready. Bren - she's got a cloak of the mountebank and can teleport clear as a last resort. Ideally she'll try and get control of the horse and use Flax to provide cover. She's not really on the right side of the bridge for anyone to help out, but she's working on that.
Female human Rogue 5
Charge, in SA damage and CA (1d20+10=29, 1d4+2=5, 2d8=7) Impelled by something beyond her control, Eglantine leaps and strikes in one fluid movement, drawing her dagger gently across Flax's golden skin. "Fight me, beloved."
Female human Rogue 5
This is probably a little crazy, but I think Eggers is quite likely to go down anyway and it's what she wants to do. Eglantine's muscles move of their own accord. Years of training seem to have lead her only to this moment. DM Spoiler: OK. DC for a charge which ends in a jump onto the horse behind Flax. The attack will be her dagger to his throat, including SA damage if she makes it.
Female human Rogue 5
"I live but to learn, my lord and your world is one of wonder to my eyes." Eglantine's eyes are limpid with adoration and to her slight concern she realises that most of what she is saying is quite sincere. If Riverbend wasn't in the equation and a man's life wasn't at stake, she would find both Flax and the feywild exactly as entrancing as she's pretending.
Female human Rogue 5
Spoiler: Folks, can anyone remember anything useful about the fey apart from them not lying? They take honour seriously I seem to remember, is there any way we can turn that to our advantage?
I'm slightly grasping at straws here. Eggers's next move is probably to try and blag a ride on the nice horsie and stab the bastard up, but she's got a feeling that's going to end in her very sudden death, which would be fine if it took Flax with her, but that's not likely as he's bound to have more hp than her.
Female human Rogue 5
Eglantine's face falls a little in a disappointed pout. "But ... then they'll miss seeing how magnificent you are ... that's not right. They should watch and learn from you." A naughty smile crosses her lips. "Let them watch and then send them into the world to tell of your prowess and beauty. That's fitting, isn't it?" Bluff, bluff, bluff the mighty feylord ... (1d20+12=32) Wow!
Female human Rogue 5
Eglantine sways gracefully towards Flax working her way through the black fey with an exression combining worship of their beauty and awe at their fey supremacy. "Your son is a wonder Ellesandra," she says, low and respectful. Thanks Cat! Eglantine will - I don't know - probably signal you frantically with her eyes when she wants help :). Double moving. Likely at Q18 at this point in case it turns out to matter.
Female human Rogue 5
Bren wrote: "Once the Fey have gone through we've got to come after them," whispers Bren to the party. "I don't know what Eggers got planned, but she's going to need our help." Never has Bren spoken truer words. You just know she's going to roll a 2 on her next Bluff check, followed shortly after that by a 1 on her surprising sneak attack.
Female human Rogue 5
Eglantine notices nothing amiss with Flax, but as she watches and listens a kind of mad plan forms. Her fingers move unobtrusively around the hilt of her dagger, as she palms it so the blade lies against her arm, well out of sight. Taking a tiny breath, she walks towards Flax smiling adoringly at him. "Let me come. They're small-minded bigots and if you're teaching them manners, I want to see it. I've spent years being looked down on and sneered at for being a circus girl. Time for payback." A mixture of bitterness and adulation thrums through her words. Behind her back, her friends can just see the tips of her fingers crossing. If this gets us all into huge trouble, I'm truly sorry guys ... Spoiler: The plan, such as it is, is essentially to bluff Flax into letting her go with him, stand behind him and stab him firmly in the back once he arrives in Riverbend.
Female human Rogue 5
Judging by the number of hp Egger's gained, I must have built her very wrong in the first place. She's not hitting any harder, but she's got more flexible powers and both her daily's focus on forcing CA on lots of foes at once. She's also picked up a few more shifty bits and bobs. As always with a rogue, they only deal decent damage if they can get CA, but she now has Distant Advantage so that should be easier to come by. We'll see. |
