lol :)

Grand Lodge

The OOC thread for the campaign.

Grand Lodge

Ok cool thanks. Purgatory as in limbo like plane where we are awaiting judgement?

Grand Lodge

This sounds like fun. I would like to run a human oracle. I will try and put him up tonight. can I ask where this game will be located in world, or at least feel?

Grand Lodge

Hi if you are still accepting submissions I wouldn't mind throwing in an old wise woman midwife type character. I will work it up and throw it on here.

Grand Lodge

Sorry to hear that Wolf. My prayers are with ya man. I think everybody can understand that real life comes first:)

Grand Lodge

We have the barbarian Skorn I think we will be ok if you want to keep your gnome.

Grand Lodge

I just saw this and would love to jump in group two if there is still room I will post a concept tomorrow. Looks like this group could use a burglar. One halfling delver incoming.

Grand Lodge

Oh dice even virtual ones forsake me when I need them the most lol :)

Grand Lodge

OK won't be able to use myth-weavers.com for a character yet I hit enter after their bot-detection realizing too late that there was another section to fill out. now I have to wait on admins to e-mail me before i can register.

Grand Lodge

is the campaign using skype or google hangout? I will give tonight a shot if me not making certain game times won't be a dealbreaker.

Grand Lodge

mornings are no good for me. Oh well, I wish you luck :)

Grand Lodge

I haven't played many online games. I have a mic, no camera. Do you always play on Monday nights? It sounds interesting will this be first session or has the campaign been going already?

Grand Lodge

D that sounds good if Henric and you traveled the road together for awhile before you found Sable as your new patron. We could definitely had stayed in touch.

Arrunt I could also see you and I sharing the road for a stretch especially if we were on the trail of some slavers trying to free some of your kinsman perhaps?

Nightdeath perhaps my mentor was a contemporary of yours back in your adventuring days and we have spent time visiting. I know a young Henric would have been most enthusiastic about learning from a veteran dwarven warrior like yourself.

Grand Lodge

Brother Henric was a bit of a woodsman before he heard the call of Erastil (1 lvl ranger). a simple country friar trying to ensure the safety of a wide ranging flock sounds like it would be a good fit for kingmaker I have heard their may be foul bandits afoot and surely a place like that may be infested with all manner of foul cultist. I can't speak as an employer D, But Brother Henric would be happy to have you as a road companion after all I find that a man willing to do an honest days labor can always find a roof and a meal if their is one to be had. If not Ole Deadeye may grace us with rabbit or quail.

Grand Lodge

I am thinking I would like to do a bright eyed young cleric of Erastil. I would start 1 lvl of ranger/ 1 lvl of cleric but from there cleric forward. His hated foe would be bandits and evil cultists that trouble the people of the small frontier communities. As far as AP I would be up for whatever the consensus is. The heroic concept is the real appeal here.

Grand Lodge

Hey Jonathan nice to have you in the discussion as you are the VC for my area. I see your points and understand them, however it would seem that perhaps the community (Society GM's) could perhaps work together with coordinators to fix this issue.

1) I understand that those factions didn't exist in 0-2, but that doesn't help those players now. If those players are playing in a season 0-2 scenario their faction doesn't suddenly not exist.

2) Of course the rewrites would have to be done in such a way that does not change the success of the objective. As a GM who is new to running society games I want to make sure that I run things correctly. So far society seems much more open to participant input than any org play I have ever seen, and I for one consider that a good thing. It is my desire to enhance the feel of the campaign, but not at the expense of fairness or violation of the run as written rule.

3) The Paizo folks are busy putting out more great product and it is understandable that is where there focus should be. I thought maybe someone had tackled this issue though, and if not maybe we as a community could.

I will spend some time rewriting the mission for one of the scenarios I have and post them up so everyone can see an example of what I am thinking. Perhaps the exercise itself will show why it should or shouldn't be attempted. Looking forward to working with you Jonathan do you know when things may get going at Y2K? I would like to lend a hand if work permits.

Grand Lodge

right right. How do you generally handle these situations Dragnmoon?

Grand Lodge

See exactly the kind of situation I am thinking about CanisDirus. I was hoping that maybe there was an errata of sorts, or with permission maybe we GM's could compile a resource to do this job. I would hate to have a player miss out on their mission because they can't get behind the flavor of the original faction. I have a lot of 0-2 scenarios and am just now starting to get to run society games. I am running a home game group through first steps and I already know I have a couple of players that are going to go for the newer factions. A local shop is planning on starting up a regular game day in a couple months, and I would like to help run a table there from time to time as I can or am needed to. Surely others have had this come up on a regular basis. Do most gm's just hand over the original faction sheet as is, or do you as a gm try to add new faction flavor? Do you do like Canis and at the point of where a mission be completed give the player a bit of re-purposing if they are going to let it be failed for RP reasons? please share your examples.

Grand Lodge

OK I know that the five new factions all correspond to one of the originals. As far as handouts go are there any written out in the flavor (in their voice) of the new faction heads somewhere. If not are we allowed to write up versions to hand to players at our tables as long as it contains the pertinent mission info? Could we possibly create a resource thread here for a compiled list perhaps. It just bugs me to have to potentially have to hand over a "silver crusade" letter that is Andoran etc.

Grand Lodge

Cool glad to see you got it up and running. I will post as my pc directly. I will be playing Logrim Hammerfall dwarven priest of Torag.

Grand Lodge

Well just to throw my two coppers in as a subscriber. I love the minis and am very happy the line is here. It was a very big decision for me to stick this one out. I did namely because My group has been going strong for almost two years now (an epic feat compared to the past)! When I saw I had a gang of people dedicated to sticking it out I knew I wanted to run Rise (three previous attempts never made it past book 1). So the timing on this set works out wonderful, but that price tag on top of a double ap month ouch! I am happy for all those who can not blink an eye and I understand the if you cannot afford it don't buy it arguments. They have been well stated in this thread; Vic also asked for feedback. I would stay subbed if the sets were priced at or near the H&M set. If they are going to stay at the Rise price point model than I am likely to drop the sub. That is not meant as a slight or anything of the such if I could afford the cost I would love to continue to shell out the big bucks and get niffty premiums and ohhhs and ahhhs. It is just too big a hit at one time. I hope either way you guys ultimately decide to go works out. I would hate to see the line go away (and I doubt it would). Glad to hear the outlook is still really good on getting a complete set.

Grand Lodge

Wasn't there talk of a June release for this set? I thought it was going to coincide with the hardback release roughly. Guess I will wait till August to start RotRL for my group. So far I am liking what I am seeing from the line though, and Holy Cow the rune giant looks Awesome! :)
(Hopefully I will survive tomorrow night's game when the crew finds out we are waiting for August)I expect they will appreciate the wait when they see all the pretty mini's to decimate :)

Grand Lodge

I would just like to say I am very pleased to see the players take on the roles of pathfinders. I have gotten to play very few PFS scenarios. Most my players even less. I look forward to this AP. I am going to run my group through RotRL when the anniversary edition hits, and plan on following up with this AP, so I do have a bit of time before we give this a go. Sigh so many good AP's so little time. :D tough problem to have.

Grand Lodge

Any word on when we will see the player's guide for this AP? I know the pirates book will be out soon, and our group is chomping at the bit to get their hot little hands on everything to start working up the party! Arrrrr!!

Grand Lodge

Well I got my case yesterday. I will post my numbers later( sorry they won't be brick by brick because I honestly would not be able to remember, but will keep that in mind for runelords). I did get a complete set. Yea!
My first one to open was an ogre who's club was broken off. This made me a little nervous, but was an easy fix with a little glue and looks fine. It was the only mini that had any damage overall I thought the distribution was pretty good. I think I would prefer the pc minis to be a bit more rare as i got 2 of most of them 3 of the cleric. Love the ettin and the large spider. some of the pc's faces were not as sculpted as i wish they were, but these are nit-picks and I like the set as a whole and am already anticipating the line up and how rune lords are going to be packaged.

Grand Lodge

Any updates on date as it now shows early January as expected release date? I would hate to have it jump back to early December or even mid December if I have spent my mini money on extra goodies for friends and family for Christmas. I know you guys are doing your best, but if you guys could confirm not before the holidays it would be great to know. Looking forward to my minis.

Grand Lodge

I may have missed this in the FAQ, but will it be easy to adjust your sub orders between sets? As example say the rise of the runelords set needs 2 cases to complete (for the most part), can I adjust my sub to reflect the extra case and switch it back to 1 case for the next set if it only needs 1 case to complete?

Grand Lodge

Just as a side note for all those folks clammering for commoner minis reaper has some great ones is their town folk sets. I know they aren't pre painted plastics. There are some great sculpts though and reasonably priced. Here

Grand Lodge

:D Kaeyoss I defiantly knew you were kidding around as soon as I saw your post. Please forgive my use of mmo jargon as it was nearly 2am and at the end of a long day.
I have been a gamer (you know the kind that roll dice and stuff I still hate that those pesky video game players co-opted our name for themselves;P)for about 30 years now so I am hardly a newcomer. I just want good sculpts representative of pathfinder's art style of useful critters that are not readily available. It is hard to find non humanoid beasties in metal (not impossible) reaper has some pretty good ones every once in a while. I also have a couple of their plastic purple worm minis (love that mini)!! DDM has several cool options but I am not shelling out the inflated price on most of them because they made um rare or have some super keen ability in the skirmish game. So yeah I am really hoping this line has a lot of what I as a GM am looking for.

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I have been reading the thread from the beginning and I appreciate your speculations and observations. I was hoping that as Vic has said there are WizKids folks paying attention to this thread. I do not expect to see every mini in the line, but I would like a general list of the line. Yes, I am sure that we will see mostly bestiary 1 mobs and an assortment of hero's that could stand in multiple roles. For me the cost of a case is a big investment of my gaming dollars. I am one of those people who like to have a general idea of what I'm in for at least. I enjoy opening up a blind pack and seeing goodies for the first time as much as the next guy. That doesn't mean I don't like to know the options that are possible. I have a ton of undead mini's for example if this set was a 1/4 skeletons, zombies, ghouls, etc. I probably would hold off on a case and try and get what I want in the after market. If it also was 1/4 beasts and aberrations of which I have few it may pull me back in. All in all I am excited for the line and want a chance at that dragon, but I will wait and see what the line holds before I commit.

Grand Lodge

Will we see a list of what minis are in the line before this date? If not that is truly disappointing as I really would love to have that dragon, but cannot justify plunking down nearly three hundred bucks when I don't even know what is going to be in the line, or what extra cost the dragon will come with (I understand this at least will be resolved before the deadline. I am ok with a random line. Not my ideal, but I understand why it is being done. I do not understand why you would keep the figures in the line unknown once they have been finalized. Keeping my fingers crossed for that line up :).

Grand Lodge

Congrats on getting this line going! I love having mini's for my games. When will we see a list of what mini's are in the line? This is a big factor to me in ordering a case. The black dragon looks awesome and the likelihood of getting a complete set by ordering the case is reassuring as well, but I can't pull the trigger till I see what is being offered in this line up. I am hoping for sooner tan later. Whiz Kids I know I can't be the only one waiting to see the final line up. I am also looking forward to the adventure packs and any news on those would be great as well. As a side note if a mini game is done with these please use the idea mentioned previously in this thread for the game cards being a separate product outside of the minis themselves. It is a great idea for those that want a mini combat game, but keeps the impact on the mini's to a minimum.

Grand Lodge

Just to let you guys know Humans of Golarion is still showing as a pre order. I added it to my order yesterday with them hoping they would go ahead and ship it with the rest, but they had it as a separate shipment for January 2012. I spoke with a customer rep last night and she said that she would set it up to be checked out. I still thought you guys might want to know as well. I also noticed Dungeons of Golarion still is showing as a pre order as well on Amazon.

Grand Lodge

If you are wanting to take some punishment and redistribute it as well might I suggest a barbarian. They have a whopping D12 fur hit dice and are great at dealing the damage as well. Gotta love the rage! If you are thinking of playing a dwarf they get a bonus to con more hp and potential rage pool! The main thing is have fun and play what you want. Welcome to the boards and let us know how it goes.

Grand Lodge

You (Pathfinderchronicler.net) have the right of course to put any stories, or omit any from your anthology. It is your anthology. I was very proud when my story received an honorable mention last year. It felt like an accomplishment worthy of a little pride. From my correspondence with Montlave after the contest I learned that each judge got to pick a favorite that wasn't in the top 5. Thus the honorable mention to me at least in a way seemed a big deal, and the cause for my previous post. Until a few nights ago the four finalist and the honorable mentions were the stories that were connected to the contest. I guess as an author you want to defend your work and see it get the recognition it earned. I wish you (pathfinderchronicler.net) all the best in the future and success in your contest. It is an awesome thing to have a chance for your work to be in front of Mr. Sutter.

Grand Lodge

Wow! Pretty disappointing to see that my story didn't appear in the anthology since I was one of the judges picks for honorable mention last year with Nahdep's Journey. You can really imagine my surprise when I went to the site and saw that my story was gone (It can still be found on the site, but no longer in connection to the 2010 contest) as well as my honorable mention in last years contest. I cannot express my disappointment in this revisionist bit of editing on the site's part. I guess I won't be sending that entry to this years contest after all.

Grand Lodge

Yup they were just what I was looking for. This whole concept really appeals to me, both for PFS and for a home brewed pathfinder society campaign. The list price is free as well! Paizo rocks!!

Grand Lodge

Thank you sir. It has been a very long day and my search-fu had failed me.

Grand Lodge

I recently listened to the most recent Know Direction Podcast and heard at the end of season 2 before season 3 a 3 part "First Steps" arc was going to be available. Can anyone tell me more about this or point me in the right direction if it is listed as an upcoming product? I may have missed it.

Grand Lodge

I would love to see an AP centered around the pathfinder society. from becoming a pathfinder in the first installment to being big shot movers and shakers in the society by the end. PFS is great, but the story and rp that are available in an AP would be awesome. I hope we get to see it some day and sooner than later.

Grand Lodge

Ah I see so you had a whole hour to ninja me that I wasn't even aware of darn space time continuum got me again :P

Grand Lodge

The "ala cart" idea seems to me it could increase time taken by a much bigger margin to me. Since you are every time you level going through each option to see which best suits your character. It also seems likely to lead to people taking what they see as optimal decisions mechanically with less concern of concept. I would beware of balance issues if pursed. YMMV.
WOW ninjaed at 4:00AM where I'm at, not expected! and well played Benchak

Grand Lodge

I gotta say I opened up the APG base classes and archetypes to my group for our kingmaker campaign. It arrived just a few days before the first session. Everyone had a general idea for the most part of the roles they were going for and opted to stay with the core classes this time round, but I did have a few players decide to check out the archetypes (including one of my 3 first time gamers).
So far things have gone well. They have really liked the focus it gives the character. My newbie said she likes it because it narrowed the what felt like an overwhelming amount of feats to choose from to a more manageable selection (although she by no means feels pigeon holed into a or b type choices) and she likes the fact she gets abilities that complement what she sees as her "Field of Expertise".
One of my veteran players also decided to go with an archetype because he saw something there that he would not have seen in just the core class. So I have a guy who has played one of two classes the whole time I have gamed with him (several years) trying a new class! I cant say I know every archetype by heart, but with all things new and shiny my standard let me look it over before I ok it(A long standing rule going back to 2nd edition complete books)I have had no issues so far. Paizo seems to do a pretty good job of keeping balance in check so far in my experience.
Who knows maybe I have just gotten lucky and my players haven't stumbled onto any game breakers. All in all though I would say leave it to the players if they find an archetype they like yea or nay it on its own merit.
Does it mean Bob can't play a vanilla core book bard and not say he is a court bard and customize it heck no. Could it inspire him to play an elemental kin barbarian when he has never given the class a second look before who knows. Archetypes aren't going to be every-bodies cup of tea but I urge you to let those who might enjoy it go for it.

Lana Orlovsky found herself quietly sitting in the shadows of the Filly and the Flagon. A rowdy tavern that she had thought most nobles would avoid. She wasn't familiar with to many bravos, or she would have known better. It so happened that not twenty feet away sat Frefnir Lodovka a young man that had spent two years in her great uncle's court as a ward of her uncle Viktor. She hadn't had extensive contact with the young man, but knew that he would recognize her. She passed the evening with her hood up sipping at her wine hoping that Frefnir and his friends would move on. Unfortunately like most wealthy ne"er do wells they had nothing better to do than drink, and drink they did. Lana feared trying to leave so she sat and waited as the young men drank an inordinate (by Lana's standards) amount of ale. When they rose to leave she had thought she had escaped notice until after bidding his friends a good evening, and promising to catch up with them later he turned towards Lana's table. It seemed he had noticed her long ago and was enjoying watching her "Blend" in. He sat down and commiserated with her about her situation. He knew he would be horrified if he would be promised to some old crone. He explained how he had heard the Sword Lords were looking for some adventuresome folk to go south and explore and suggested she might have better luck staying incognito in a more out of the way local. He knew her father had people looking for her in Restov and promised her secret was safe with him.

Grand Lodge

Yea for Katniss!! The Hunger Games are a very good set of books and I can easily see how she could inspire a ranger character.

Grand Lodge

Otis and Arryol sat in their cell cursing their luck. They were weary and tired hungry and thirsty. They had told their captors how they had never hurt anyone one and how they had only become highway men out of hunger and necessity. When the young lord pointed out that both of them seemed rather able bodied they had no answer. He told them they would have their trial directly before their execution it did not brighten there mood. When the cell door opened and a well dressed older man entered the chamber they were a little uncertain what to make of him.
"So you two are the ones who have been plaguing the Southway this past winter? You know you will be lucky to get ten years in the copper mines of Highdelve for your crimes." He studied their faces, "Perhaps you would prefer swift justice though rope or blade? I know I would not care to try and last ten years in the cold mines. Broken men you will be if you make that is for sure." Otis looked glumly at his friend.
"Perhaps I have a third option for you. One that would keep you hale and hearty; one that kept you free of bondage." Arryol and Otis both were paying close attention to the man now.
"We are putting together expeditions to explore the south. It is our understanding that these lands are rife with bandits like fleas in flop house. Who better to know the habits of bandits then renounced highwaymen?" He studied them as he spoke. Both Otis and Arryol nodded in agreement. "You have the right of it their Sir." Arryol said.
"Know that if you agree their is no turning back their will be no flitting off to your old ways. The gods smile on you though because you are more useful to us in this manner than not. So what say you will you pay penance and work against your ilk in the Stolen Lands?"
Otis answered for them " They are no kin to us. The streets of Restov were our Mother, The road our wandering Da. Me and Arryol got no ilk but each other. We are hapy to do service for the good Swordlords."
I hoped you would be agreeable to this arrangement, but you will forgive me if I don't simply take you for your word." He opened the door and beckoned a robed man into the room and nodded. Franig began his incantation power crackling around him as his hands fluttered through the motions required. When he abruptly finished both Otis and Arryol tingled at the base of their necks.
" If you do anything that constitutes betrayal we will know of it, and Franig here will be able to send a shade to finish the execution that you have escaped this day. If I were you I would not test this geas. I hear it isn't pleasant."

The Gronzi Forest was waking from it's winter slumber at the temple of Erastil's Grove. Brother Refan had called for Nomel and Hakak to attend him in his study after they broke their fast. Hakak's great olive tinged hand patted Wolf as they rose from the table. He tossed the great white wolf the last of his bacon, "Here greedy guts."
The wolf waged his tail devouring the bacon his half orc had tossed him not letting a morsel touch the floor. The trio made their way to the elder's study knocking lightly on the door.
"Enter." The old man called.
"A raven came yesterday from Restov. It would seem the Swordlords request the church send aid to their cause. They intend to map the Stolen Lands it seems. Their is talk in settling the region they ask if we would be interested in assisting in this endeavor." Refan paused.
"There are rumors flying quick as jays that Surtova intends to name himself King, of course these are nothing new but, the rumors grow like cold wind on the mist and vales. If this is the case the Swordlords will surely revolt and seek to shore up their backsides. Yet if they plan on sending common folk south it is a crop that need nurturing and protection. I have agreed to send you two south as guides for their exploratory party. It will be to you to see Old Deadeye's will be done not these Swordlords."

Nomel nodded, "Of course Elder. Hakak and myself are honored to be selected. We will set forth at once for Restov."
Hakak smiled in agreement, "Aye it is as Nomel says. It will be good to see new lands."

Grand Lodge

First session was last night made characters and did introduction bits mainly. It looks like we will be playing every other Saturday night squeezing in a session in on off weeks when we can all get together.

Lana Orlovsky strode from her father's hall fuming. There was no way she was going to marry seventy-four year old Unster Medvyed! Now had he been an Elf like her own dear mother that would be of no concern. He would only now be of the age to be considering betrothal, but he wasn't; he was human like father. A four time widower with a score of whelps ranging from nigh on sixty to barely twelve. If mother was still alive there is no way father would propose such a match. She stormed into her room collecting her things she hated the thought of running, but not as bad as the thought of Ancient Unster. She would head south she was not commonly known in Restov there she would be able to slip away perhaps find some companions, go forth and wander like mother had done in her youth. She remembered the tales she would spin as Lana lay down for bed. She gripped the fine longbow that had served her mother so well, lifted her hood to fight the cold night air and slipped out the window with no more than she could carry.
>---<

Otis looked at Arryol nodding to his life long friend as they saw the lone rider coming down the road. The big half orc liked it when they came along by themselves and so finely dressed as well. Surley this one was a wealthy merchants son or mayhap a lordling of one of the great houses. When he neared there hiding place he sprung from his tree. Drawing his new shiny Bastard sword that had been paid for by the last wealthy son to travel down their road.
" Ho there boy, did you not know this here is a toll road?" He smiled frightfully.
Arryol stepped forth from the bushes behind the young lordlings horse as he finished the words to his incantacion his hands danced with electricity.
"No fear lad, we prefer to leave travelers unmolested once they have paid their due." Arryol added.
They had been eating much better since they had decided to become highwaymen.
The youth held up his hands.
"I have heard tell of you robber's most foul working the Southway road. It seems many goodly folk have been charged an exorbitant toll to travel this road as of late. Funny as how the Swordlords don't recall sending any taxmen to enact such a toll." With a flick of his wrist and a fluid sweep of his arm the youth had an Aldori dueling sword in his hand. He whistled shrilly and six men at arms wearing the colors of the Restov watch rounded the been on horse, spear in hand. Four more rose from the woods leveling heavy crossbows at them. Otis and Arryol were no craven, but they were no fools either. Otis let his sword fall to the ground Arryol discharged the lightning he held in his hand. The youth chuckled. "put them in shackles and take their weapons. Gag the mage. Dorin ride ahead and tell the swordlords that the Southway is safer by two bandits. Come along boys it is a fair walk to Restov's Dungeons."

Grand Lodge

We had our character creation and intro session last night. My party is as follows.

Nomel Fletcher: a human priest of Erastil. He is a loyal Rostlander.

Hakak & Wolf: a half orc druid dedicated to Erastil with his white wolf companion named Wolf.

Lana Orlovsky: A half elf fighter of noble blood.

Otis: a half orc barbarian. He grew up an orphan in the rough parts of Restov fighting for every scrap of food he got.

Arryol: a human draconic bloodline sorcerer. He grew up with Otis on the mean streets together the friends have been through a lot.

I am starting a campaign thread to tell the exploits of the party. We started with how it came to be that they each received the charters. If interested look for Dorgar's Kingmaker Tale in campaign's section.
