She frowns when she gets to the camera’s content.

“This doesn’t make sense. What does this person want from us? What’s this about? Could they know something — hell, anything — about what actually happened to us?”

She starts to look around, then stops. “I feel like I should look around for cameras or traps or things, but given what this whoever-it-is can do, I wonder if it’s pointless.”

She gives a slight shrug, then continues. “Eh, screw it.”

She pulls out a syringe, fills it with a biohack, and gives herself a shot of liquid luck.

After she safely packs away the syringe, Lilly pulls out her comm unit, taps it a couple of times, shakes it, and frowns.

“Geez, this tech,” she says in her ‘out loud’ voice. “Sometimes I wish it bio-based. At least then I could heal it. Guess I’ll have to do the next best thing…”

She looks intently at her screen for a few moments, then smiles.

“Good news… the, uh, repair shop we were looking for? It's close by. Closer than we thought... maybe a five minute walk. C'mon, let’s go! After all, we don’t want to, ah, miss any important messages.”

She wiggles her eyebrows a bit and gives a lop-sided smile.

Using the information from the comm unit, Lilly leads the way to the apartment. Once the team is in a more secluded spot on the way, she’ll tell everybody what she found.

I very recently learned that when you use a caustoject or caustolance for a biohack, you don’t get any acid damage. So, I’ve been playing that wrong for, oh, several years now. Oops. My characters' sincerest apologies to the many creatures they faced who all died before they should have due to spurious acid damage.

From “caustoject” description in AoN — “Syringes can be loaded into these weapons, allowing other materials to be quickly injected instead of an acidic discharge (in which case only the injection effect occurs—no acid damage is dealt.”

From “caustolance description in AoN — “As with its smaller cousin, a caustolance uses its battery to generate an acidic field to inject directly into its targets, but it can also handle and discharge other substances that are poured into a special tank that is attached to the weapon’s barrel.”

The cockpit door opens, and Lilly stumbles in. Her hair is a mess, and her mouth is wide open in a deep yawn.

“Uh… I, um…” — she finishes her yawn and waves her hand toward the ship’s hold — “…I stowed the gear we got, but then I kinda took a nap. I think. Sorry.”

She yawns again and stretches, then tries to get her hair into some kind of order.

Lilly’s tears slow and her breathing goes back to normal. She gently disengages from Rar’gul, then pulls out a cloth and blows her nose. She tries to get words out.

“Uh, sorry… thanks… I di… I’m sorry… I kinda broke. I’m better now.”

She turns to Cidribvoot. “I’m Lilly, but the team usually calls me Doc. I keep everyone patched up and moving forward… at least when I’m not crying into Rar’gul’s armor. Sorry you had to meet me like that.” Lilly takes a deep breath. “It’s good to meet someone else who knew how special Breez was. Thanks for that.”

Hearing John’s call to get on the ship, Lilly quickly scoops up weapons and supplies from the dead reptoids.

“We can sort this stuff out on the ship and recharge the batteries. No tellin’ whut’s waiting ahead. May as well be ready. These bastards won’t be needing them any more.”

Without looking back, she walks up the loading ramp and hauls everything into the belly of the ship.

Lilly reads the screen, and slowly, loudly exhales. Her shoulders begin to shake, and her eyes glisten.

“He's real. All dirindi, no reptoid. Looks like we got'a new teammate. Or I guess an old one."

She sniffles and her shoulders shake more. "One like Bree-”

She buries her face in Rar'gul's side and sobs.

It takes her a moment to register John’s question.

“Test? Yah… thuh same scan I ran on Kibotu.” Her hand shakes a bit, but she calms it.

Turning to Cidribvoot, Lilly tries smooth her emotions and look calm. It isn’t much, but it’s the best she has right now.

“I’m gunna scan ya. Don’t be movin’ now.”

As the reptoid falls, Lilly turns and swings her pistol toward the mystery fighter, lining up for the shot. Then she cocks her head.

She can barely say the name. The pistol wavers a moment in Lilly’s grip.

Lilly feels comfort in the warm weight of Rar’gul’s palm, and she smiles when he quotes her ancestors’ wisdom, even if is pronunciation is a little off.

“Agreed, we need to refill the jar.” And then hit some reptoids with the lid. Or maybe the whole jar. Or just shoot them.

She scoots around in the too-big chair, eventually finding a position that feels comfortable. As she rests, she busies herself replenishing biohacks and keeping an ear out for approaching footsteps.

After a few minutes work, she slides the finished vials into position and puts the micro lab into self-cleaning mode. She pats the device’s cover. You’ll get a proper round of maintenance once we’re out of here. My treat.

Lilly closes her eyes and relaxes a moment. Keep going… just keep going... keep going... just keep going... She gently sways to the rhythm.

Finally she climbs out of the chair and stretches, testing her muscles and checking their current limits. Only a few of them protest.

After Narla falls, Lilly leans against the wall for a moment and collects herself.
