I did make an edit. The shield is a +1 Heavy Wooden Shield of Bashing.

So I don't know if anyone will be using the bashing portion of it, it is still a +1 shield and a fun option if needed. Also, with the bashing property the +1 also works for Attack/Damage. So pick up the Improved Shield Bash Feat and can instantly turn someone into a switch hitter depending on the need of the weapon.

That's my 2 cents from behind the DM screen.

M Human Cleric/Bard

So I think we are getting hung up on the trap portion of this. Now that you know that it is there, that there are multiple pressure plates, and it sets you can work accordingly.

You can get a new frog or use Perri's bill to trigger the trap and once it slams forward a few can rush past before it slides back into place. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

It's really just one of those traps that tries to catch the person off guard who wants to rush across the bridge. Once you know how it works... not much of a threat.

M Human Cleric/Bard

No worries. I cannot throw any stones this summer. Hope the prep for the move and the move goes well and safely.

Nodding; “Right. You must be tired. Father Prasst, you tend to their wounds.” looking to the group; “Do what you must to prepare, but I ask that you keep what happened within the tomb to yourselves. We do not want to start more of a panic than needed. I need to figure out what to tell the people of Kassen.”

With that, Mayor Uptal leaves. Aldmus and Holgast follow behind along with Arnama catching up to speak with the mayor.

Jimes stands in disbelief while Sir Dramott continues to look over the map deep in thought.

Olmira approaches Esgean; “She will be well” the woman says as she scratches behind the cats right ear, cupping her head in her hand. Lowering her voice she begins speaking in a language no one else knows except Esgean.

Conrad sees that the whole of the bridge beyond the first 5-ft portion is covered with pressure plates. With Roya’s observation, you think that it could be possible to quickly round the statues before they move back into place.

If you attempt the above:

You fetch a second frog corpse, or use Perri’s bill, and trigger the trap. The two statues rush forward turned to push anyone off the bridge with their shields. Once they stop in place the group of you quickly moves to the other side.

The ornate brass doors hanging before you reflect your torches and light, yet you see light. Light from beyond the doors. These large doors hang slightly open, yet only enough to let light through.

Rhiann’s readied action goes off and it goes wide. Quickly refocusing on her target, the second arrow lands. (-2 HP)

Angus’ attack digs into the man’s shoulder, but his leather armor keeps him protected.

Liz runs around the top of the wall to make it to the ladder. (I moved your character 60 feet around. Let me know if that is what you wanted. )

Alyssa’s Grease spell lands beneath the bandits feet, but he stays standing.

Larelle sees that her sisters bolt doesn’t take the man off his horse, so she tries to fill him with a second arrow. The arrow grazes off of his armor and sinks into the wall.

A quick question, The fellow that was talking to Oleg was 'white shirt guy' you said he moves forwards a step, but he's 15 ft north of the entangle, is that right?

Great question, I snagged the wrong token, thank you for mentioning it. You'd think that I'd realized I had one stand out for a reason... I adjusted it accordingly. He steps forward out of the Entangle, and the other bandit still moves free from the horses moving about the courtyard.

With the Rahaal’s threat, the courtyard springs to life.

The two mounted riders see the spring trap and their mounts break free from the Entanglement and rush south away from the trading post.

The three unmounted horses also appear to have broken free from the Entanglement but move about the courtyard, causing the two bandits on foot to flee from being trampled. (They made the Entangle break DC) Not watching where he is running, the one moves within range of Alyssa’s readied Daze and she cast her spell. The bandit freezes in place as he has been affected by the Daze spell.

The single mounted rider looks turns in his saddle to address Rhiann; “You might get rid of a few of us, but this place will burn.” drawing his bow, he lets loose an arrow that flies wide and goes over the wall.

Sense Motive DC 20:

The Mayor Uptal is nervous. Twitching, darting his eyes between those who are speaking. You don’t get the sense that he is trying to hide anything from the group or is guilty of something, but he is wanting to hurry the group along. Maybe to remove those who could talk about what had happened this week with the retrieval of the everflame.

Looking to those who are speaking, his eyes fall on Jhessa; “Yes, yes, yes. You might be right.” he turns away from the Cleric of Shelyn; “Guidance is needed for this task. There does appear to be more than I had first imagined.” Brushing his hand around his full beard; “Take all the time you need. Aldmus will be key in helping us clear the tomb, but we have these around us who will take care of what remains.” as he motions to the mentors.

When Esgean mentions the handbill and meeting at “The Lady’s Shield-Hand,” Sir Dramott speaks up; “Where? What handbill? Let me see it.” As he reads the note Sir Dramott is shaking his head; “There isn’t any information here other than a meeting place.” taking one of the coins, if offered, he flips it over in his hand; The Lady’s Shield-Hand” is a tavern in Vigil near the southgate. And this” holding up the coin; “Is a coin minted in Vigil.” Handing the coin back; “I don’t know what this means, but I fear that the Empty Hand tribe making it here is not the worst of it.”

Conrad heads off and retrieves one of the frogs from the earlier chamber. It does take a little bit of time carrying (literal) dead weight across a tomb, but as soon as he gets back he tosses it onto the bridge. The first 5-feet cause nothing to happen. Trying again, in the second 5-feet area, there is a click.

With that the two statues angle causing a wedge and quickly rush forward. Without giving Conrad much time, the statues spring forward and hit the corpse of the frog off into the pit below. After a few seconds the statues slowly return to their starting point and rotate to where the shields are facing across the bridge.

Let me retcon what I said. I went back and did some checking, no one knew he was diseased until this morning. On the 7th was his first sign of the disease (Onset), that is why you didn't get a chance to make the save.

I was also wrong. I thought aid was only +2 and would not have made the DC. BUT, with the Heal Check Treat Disease it does give a +4 which would have saved him for this check. But, again he had no signs of the disease that would make you think to provide aid that evening. Moving forward, you can provide him aid him at each night because you know he has a disease.

I think all of that covers the bases moving forward with this incident, but then again I could be wrong. lol.

Tossing a lighted pebble down into the darkness, you count how long it takes before you hear it hit the bottom with a slight splash. Roughly 40-feet is what you believe it would be. Looking down, you can see that there is a shallow pool of water at the bottom that is only a few inches deep. The rest of the area is dry in this chamber so it is hard to tell where it might have come from.

If Brandark use the rope to also discover the depth.:

Just as other are about to move forward across the bridge Conrad stops them. The bridge is covered with mechanical pressure plates. Looking closer, Conrad also sees faint groove lines in the flooring leading to the two stone statues. You are 100% positive, but you believe that the pressure plates would trigger the statues to rush forward and either push someone back, or into the dark depths below the bridge.

I think that not sitting at a physical table and talking face to face is the main barrier.

- Roya rolled a K-Religion and knew that these are plague zombies and that they do carry a disease, that if caught, would give the person the classic Zombie Rot.
- Now that we are a day out and her patient has tried to be healed of the Con damage, she sees that it is not happening.
- Since this is a variant to the disease within this module all I was saying was that she would need to roll Disease Template DC based on what you shared above, otherwise she might be thinking it is something else and not the standard zombie rot.

As far as RAW goes with identifying diseases, I believe that Diagnose Disease is the only way to tell what a disease is. If there is another way I am glad to learn just shoot me a link to the text on it.

Roya would know that Plague Zombies have zombie rot, but not the variant of it. That is something specific to the module that isn't known openly in the world.

I am good Roya having a "professional opinion" and thinking due to what is wrong that it is zombie rot, but there are other things you have come across that have diseases that this could be. If she'd want to take the time to examine the Miron, (Rolling higher DC) I am cool with that too.

Before leaving
Mayor Uptal gives Felix a side glance; “Of course we know if Asar and his companions. They are what led to Kassen’s death. Asar was the leader of the mercenaries that tried to attack Kassen.” (This is probably an error on my end. The lore behind Kassen’s death is known and taught. Kassen was attacked by mercenaries led by Asar an old companion of the village leader. That is the extend of the knowledge.)

After bathing & food is brought forward
“Take all the time you need Jhessa, your chamber is as you left it.”

The meal that is brought around is a light one. Chicken broth with thinly sliced vegetables, soft rolls with butter, water, and hot spiced tea. Father Prasst motions to the table; “Please eat. Emotionally you might not think you are hungry, but your bodies need nourishment. Do what you can.”

He spends time moving between Felix and Rejke, casting a spell over each one; “I will need to rest before I know who else is infected, but these two are infected with Zombie Rot. But, it isn’t a form I am familiar with. It seems that Any attempt of healing you weakened state is impossible until you are rid of the disease.”

After a short time, the mayor enters the temple and makes his way to this meeting chamber. Closely behind him are four of the village elders, along with some familiar faces. Olmire, Esgean’s mentor, Jimes, Kevan’s mentor, Holgast Aldmus’ mentor, and Sir Dramott Felix’s mentor.

Mayor Uptal speaks up once everyone has gathered; “I have informed the elders what you have told me. Asar and his companions raising from the dead. Word of this Bhazad Khrar’s hammer. and that it appears to have been taken by an orc tribe called the Empty Hand.

They have been battling Orc tribes longer than I can imagine.” looking among the elders Mayor Uptal turns to the group. “I don’t ask this lightly, but it was you that defeated Asar and cleansing the tomb of Kassen, returning the Everflame. With Angus’ question, Robert turns to him. “His name is Breeg, Breeg Orlivanch. If he comes into the post, I doubt he’ll have my traps. And who knows when I’d be in next. I didn’t trust him and knew it would eventually bite me in the end… well, here we are.” When Rahaal questions about the bandits; “It’s hard for me to say. When I see signs of them I go the other way. Sunrise
Those Who are on the southwestern side of the wall can see a group of riders approaching riding into the sunrise. As they get closer, you can see six riders quickly approaching. Those who prepared casting spells do so now before they get too close.

Liz and Rahaal is hiding behind the wall flanking the entrance with Fifi at the bottom of the ladder near the entrance of the trading post. Rhiann staying at the south west watch tower, everyone else is hiding along the northeast part of the trading post.

As the riders get close four of the riders ride into the trading post, two stay outside still mounted. Of the four that enter, one stays mounted (Furthest west) and three dismount and one collects the three reins. The final two move forward. One of the two men (white shirt token) speaks to Oleg as they approach. “Oleg! Svetlana! It’s been a while, how’s business?” He chuckles with his question. The man next to him moves up to the table; “Looks like you have breakfast ready for us. So kind” He reaches for something to eat.

The horse with the rider inside of the trading post senses Fifi and starts to step nervously away from the dog; “What is it girl?” the rider says as he looks around and sees the dog; “Hey Happs, look at this they got a dog.” as he continues looking around the man sees Liz crouching on the wall. “Well hello there, and a guest.”

The man who was speaking to Oleg says with a grin “Guest” turning to see what the rider was talking about and the man sees Rahaal too; “Two guest. The view from up there is perfect in the morning. Did you have any of Svetlana’s fantastic cooking? Come and break bread with us.”

As Conrad leads the group into this chamber it reveals a number of recesses carved into the walls and a fissure in the ceiling. Unable to see how deep it cuts into the mountain above, it does look recent.

Drawing his flail, Conrad hears a noise. Almost a nasally clicking coming from above in the fissure. Raising a light reveals thousands of bats that whirl into flight circling this chamber as they swarm in a circle. Their sound floods your ears as it echoes off the walls. Conrad has difficulty seeing as the diminutive creatures nearly blind his vision as he protects his face.

Arrival within Kassen
Esgean’s father looks down at the now woman who was his little girl just a few days ago. Kissing her temple, he urges her to follow Mayor Uptal. “We will be here when you’re finished.”

As your family and friends all let you go, you begin to hear voices rise among the croud; “Where is he?” it begins to get louder and more adamant; “No… Esgean…. Kevan…. Where is Herskor?” as the door to the temple closes, you see the woman who adopted Herskor and brought him in as her own.

Inside the Temple of Erastil
While each of you are sharing bits of what happened, shock and disbelief continues to grow on Jonark’s face. “When Holgast returned we thought that the others were staying around to watch over you in case there was trouble.” he is thinking to himself; “Asar rose? An undead warrior?” The mayor sits and looks over the five of you as he thinks.

Father Prasst moves from between each of you as you are talking. Tending to your wounds, healing each of you. Turning to Felix and Esgean; “I will request that you stay here tonight so that I can tend to the disease you contracted in there. It seems mild but the conditions you found yourselves in were not good. You would be back to normal in no time.”

Father Prasst stands beside Jhessa and lowers his voice; “Do you know why I became a priest?” he leaves a moment for thought. He had never shared this with Jhessa before, and most people don’t know much about his life before taking over at the temple of Erastil; “I was young and training as a soldier in Tamran.” (This is the capital of the Nirmathas, the nation that Kassen is in.) “When we completed our training we were sent off to take care of banditry along the southern road beyond the Marideth River.” Still not facing the Cleric of Shelyn; “We were caught off guard, and our captain missed the signs. We were ambushed. Eventually we fought back and defeated the band that attacked us. Many were wounded and I tried to lend them aid as we rushed to make our way back to Tamran. I felt in that moment a call to aid and defend against such reckless loss of life. I have devoted my training since that moment to follow Erastil and use his blessings to help the families, hunters, and farmers that I came across until settling here.”

Turning to check Jhessa over for the same disease that Felix and Rejke have contracted, he looks in her eyes; “The hardest thing is that no matter how trained you are and how much you call on the divine, there will be losses. Lives will still be recklessly lost.” Placing a caring hand on the upper portion of her arm; “That is a lesson that everyone must learn, but especially those who call themselves clerics or priestess.” with a smile her mentor continues checking everyone else over.

Mayor Uptal stands as he has had some realization; “Stay here. I will return with a few of the elders. I will also see to Herskor’s family and dismiss the crowd.”

With that the mayor leaves. Father Prasst motions for everyone to follow him through the temple to his living quarters. There you find a large table where he invites guest to eat. Jhessa has had many meals here with her mentor.“I will have a meal brought.” pointing down the hall; “That way, the first entry on the right, is a bathing chamber. We have three tubs. Please feel free to soak. I will have fresh linens brought for you to change into.”

Kevan:

Kevan looks around the cairn. You do not see any traps. This is off the beaten path, and from how overgrown it is, you are not sure when this happened or where the remains might be.

(If there is anything the group would want to do before taking off please be sure to jump back and we can RP it.)

You continue your trek through the woods and Esgean can get you back on track. You regain the trail just south of where the fallen tree was and you fought the band of orcs that turned out to be an illusion from Holgast.

Following the trail leads you to where the woods break and your home hamlet of Kassen is revealed. There is something different about seeing your hamlet, there was an innocence to the world when you set off and now upon arrival you have flashes of those who have been left behind fallen in the tomb, flashes of the creatures you face off against. Skeletons, zombies, a shadow, giant frogs, living golem, and an undead lord that slain Kassen when they both were alive.

A blast of a horn snaps you out of what was and grips you right in to the present. It is a look out on the parapet. As you arrive through the gates the citizens arrive with a different demeanor. They are celebrating as they continue to pour out from their homes and the streets.

There is an overwhelming sense of joy and pride in seeing you return. But then there is slowly a wash of realization come over them. They see that Herskor is not with you and that Roldare and Dimira are with you and look terrible.

Jonark Uptal, the mayor of Kassen, has a stern look of confusion; “What has happened?” looking around he realizes that there are too many people around and he pulls you into the Temple of Erastil. As you enter Jonark turns to a the acolytes on duty; “No one gets in here.” then he looks around; “PRASST!” he yells for the Priest of Erastil, Father Prasst.

Looking with heart ache in his eyes; “Please, what happened?”

I am thinking something similar to THIS when it comes to a burial cairn. More of a marker/mound

M Human Cleric/Bard

I've gone ahead and placed you in the room with the reflecting pool. I've also switched out Conrad to be the head of the marching order instead of Perri. Perri would be at the end. I don't want to bot the first person into any room... seems unfair.

Eventually everyone is ready to head off and see what has happened to the gated room. Those who use their Light cantrip do so continually and those who bear a torch hold it out in front of them to ward off the darkness. (Anyone using torches?)

Arriving back to the reflecting pool that caused some of you to flee in fear of what you saw, you see across the room that the iron portcullis has raised. Now the opening into the darkened chamber beyond looks like a gaping mouth with iron teeth hanging from above.

Passing by the magical pool that sent you fleeing, it is near impossibly to catch a glance of your passing self. It is you… the real you. No magical tricks of haunted images. Arriving at the entrance of the next chamber, from what you can see, it looks to be a mirror image of the previous room that the zombies were in.

Wait... are you talking about your level 2 skill add? Yes feel free to change that. That was literally two days ago. Thank you for mentioning it.

M Human Cleric/Bard

I am going to say no. That is part of who your character is before we started. He is a woodsman, he knows things about nature because of his ventures into the woods.

Also, this module was in a tomb (dungeon) and it makes since that you probably didn't use it much. Outside of the beetles and frogs you came across everything was undead (K-Religion).

Looking around the cairn you find no religious marking, no sign seal or insignia that would reveal who was laid to rest here. The rocks are overgrown with vines and grass.

As Jhessa responds, Kevan would know that it is custom for followers of a deity would be buried with their holy symbols and potential weapons of their deity. Also family members typically would bury their dead with jewelry and family heirlooms.

Esgean is able to put together a makeshift shelter in case it were to rain this evening, along with gathering berries that are a sweet treat compared to the dryness of the tomb.

As you get settled in for the evening, you know that tomorrow you would be able to make it home and see your friends and families.

(Is there anything that you specifically want to do this evening?)

The evening:

The evening comes and goes mostly uneventful. (After a full nights rest you gain 2 HP that is reflected below in the Character Status. If you use any extra spells or channels please make note of it.)

A prestidigitation can slowly lift 1 pound of material. It can color, clean, or soil items in a 1-foot cube each round. It can chill, warm, or flavor 1 pound of nonliving material.

Seems like cleaning is good to go! Might just take a little while.

Though there is some disagreement on Brandark and him testing and drinking the water, there is no disagreement with the warm meal and how much that helps moral in a tomb like this.

Perri, hearing the argument looks at the water and is internally battling if he should take a drink. Looking to Brandark, then to his own wounds. Perri takes a drink; “It’s cold!”

Though there is a slight distraction with the food and the fountain, everyone remembers Conrad turning the wheel that moved that chains that caused a noise off in the distance. The assumption would be that the gate has been raised.

“Spend the night?” Robert returns Angus’ question; “No, I don’t believe I will. I think I will get out before the fun goes down. I am a trapper and hunter. I am currently hunting down my partner who ran off with all our traps. I always swing by the fort and give Oleg and Svetlana a few gifts.”

As Fifi takes the piece of meat and runs off he gives a little laugh; “Strike and run, I like how she works. I am sure if all goes well for you we will get to know one another well enough.” Oleg gives the man a side-eye glance, and he shrugs; “What? I’d miss you two dearly but you’ve seen what they have done to those who come in these parts.”

As the day continues to roll on into the night, planning continues. No other travelers come through on this day and eventually Robert climbs back upon his horse and begins to slowly ride out of the trading post; “Hope to see you guys in a week or so.”

Evening eventually comes and Oleg and standing at the opening of the gate, looking off to the south towards the woods. It is dark out but with the clear sky the moon reveals enough that you can see the darkness of the woods beyond. He closes the gain with the help; “I don’t know how much I’ll get, but I’ll try to go get some sleep.”

Before dawn comes you hear someone working out by the fire. It’s Oleg, he is getting the fire going and has a pot getting warm; “Coffee if you’d like. Figured we might as well use it. Just in case.” He doesn’t mean to be grim, but the anxiousness he is feeling is fully worn on his face. “They should be here within the hour if they continue as normal. I’ll open the gate soon enough.”

During his watch Brandark (Second Watch) decides to test the water. Dipping in a copper to see what happens. Outside of bubbles sticking to any dirt and grime there is no ill effect on the coin. Reacts as if you dropped a coin in a puddle. Dipping his finger into the water you notice that it is cool to the touch, like the fountain and pool of water on the first level. Sniffing the water, it has no present odor.

Taking a handful of water, the dwarven ranger takes a drink of the water. Just as he has done time and time again at any fresh spring of water. Only this time there is something different., something new. A resurgence of energy. You feel almost as refreshed as you did the morning you woke up to leave for this rite of passage. (Brandark is fully healed of HP & Dex damage)
