Greetings folks,

I have been checking the forum a bit for a pirate type character like buccaneer or swashbuckler but basically what I want to create is a character for PFS that will be a retired pirate whom went ashore after years of swinging a cutlas and flashing his gun.

Pretty broad terms I know. In game play terms a combat minded character that isnt super optimized however not completely dead weight either, focusing on four things
1) being for PFS (incl. all the restrictions)
2) being Human (he needs to have a large beard)
3) Cutlas wield (thats what real pirates use btw I know its not good)
4) using Pistol

and if possible the last 2 at the same time in close combat (which probably will require some kind of DEX build)

do load up your minds with class/multiclasses, feats and skills.

Hope you folks can come up with a great one.

I'm of the school that it should be allowed to be made of Mithral, as the primary protective component is the metal plates, not the cloth holding it up.

However, from a sense of practicality here, why make this stipulation? If you do, people will just have there Kikko made out of Darkleaf Cloth instead, for a 2.5k discount I might add.

Hadn't thought about the darkleaf actually, nice one - however it do NOT lower the type of armor as mithral does. But I like the alternative to be honest!

Grand Lodge

Actually this question turned precisely the direction I thought it would. I am however not trying to twist any words, just want to do the correct ruling when my next bard in a PFS table sits down.

I think the solid point from a gaming perspective is actually that its considered MEDIUM armor - and therefore differs from Studded leather, which as Lincoln points out is somewhat the same.

However IF I had to go by RAW I would disallow it to be made of mithral no matter if its considered the protection part of the armor. Simply because RAW claims PRIMARY component - so what I am trying is actually making sure that people are using it according to the rules (which is important in PFS).

I however like the points noted but fore and against (even the bit of flaming which one always gets ;-))

Grand Lodge

That seem to be the general consensus however that to not comply with the rules since it should PRIMARY be of metal. Anyone that have seen a Kikko knows very well its primary cloth, cloth and more cloth.

This is why I asked for a ruling on the topic. Most people feel it should apply even thought its not primary metal.

Anyhow one could make the same argue for a quarterstaff (which isnt made of metal) equipped with mithral tips. That should then, since the point of striking is the mithral tip, apply as a mithral, however rules are VERY precise there say "noway"!

by the way I understand the benefits as much as the next guy and would love to have a light wearing spell caster running around in such an armour.

Grand Lodge

5 people marked this as FAQ candidate.

Hiya,

First off I have checked out the forum, and didn't find the ruling on this a bit strange topic.

We have today argued about Mithral usage in Kikko armour.
What bonus did it give?
Many claim the standard mithral bonus of course, however I argued for something completely different = NO bonus.

here is why:

To provide a bonus the primary component of the item in question should be metal. Kikko is a cloth armour reenforced with metal plates.
Yes you could have the metals made in mithral even not covered by cloth. While it would look shining the armour would still be a cloth armor with metal and not a metal armour with cloth around.

I know many would dislike this reading the rules since Bards and the like benefit GREATLY of a mithral kikko armour.

Rules stats I believe:
Items not primarily of metal are not meaningfully affected by being partially made of mithal

I therefore hope to get a ruling on the subject : Are Kikko Armours Metal with cloth (hence usable for Mithral bonus) or Cloth with metal (hence NOT usable for Mithral bonus)

thanks in advance

Grand Lodge

Actually in the Danish pathfinder society we are currently having this talk. I can not see how mithril aids in kikko armor. Rules stats that mithril should be primary component. In kikko armor primary component is cloth not metal. Yes it has metal buti it isn't the primary component. I know lots will hate that because it's a superb and cheap way to get rid of the armor problems with medium armor. But folk it's made of cloth hence do not gain the effect of mithril

Hiya,

I have been viewing this come up to and thought you simply need to add a Monk, having the philosophic perspective and a balance in life.

I am therefore toying around with a character concept for a monk of the Sacred mountain. I do not have access to herolab so making the character do take a bit of time. However I am thinking he is along these lines.

Kiendao Chen is a younger (hu)man, early to mid twenties, having studied the ways his temple for years. Along side the strict codex of hard work and religion he have developed a fascination with antiquities specially porcelain. Knowing Sir Wodewood is somewhat a collector of well pretty much anything, Kiendao have decided to pay the collector a visit in hope to discover some long lost and interesting antique relics.

As a monk he is as mentioned taught the ways of the sacred mountain. The philosophy of the sacred mountain will focus on a strong firm foundation that reaches to the sky and the divinity the dwell above.

Skills will therefore also reflect that with Climb, Knowledge religion and of course profession Porcelain artist.

Anyway I will try to build him today.

The only adjustment I would make would be to bump the Player Characters up to 20 point buy.

Best of Luck,

Thanks - I had thought about this my self and made the fun calculation 3*20 points = 4*15 points. As for experience: they are all experienced RPers but not really in Pathfinder, therefore wont see super power builds but will no doubt have a blast. Carrion Crown calls for a black carpet, horror music and a dark night around the table - Its gonna be fun.

However I WILL tell them that a healer of some kind would be nice to have in the party but in the end its their choice not mine :)

Thanks for all the help guys

I am running this for 2-3 people using a variant of the gestalt rules (see d20srd.org or Unearthed Arcana), which works wonders. The only limitation, at least with 2 characters, is that they are usually in more trouble if one goes down.

Gestalt is of course a solution - however this will be the first time these folks are really getting into PF so the combination of multiple characters might be just a step too far. But I will bring it up for the party! Thanks for the advise.

Wow - this is a daunting task specially using english when its not ones native language. Seeing that I am completely newbie at stuff like this, I guess Rule 5 apply mostly to me - HAVE FUN!

Anyway planning begins now 400 words seems like the first milestone, many miles away. 32 pages seem like mount Everest right now. But to quote the chinese saying "every journey begins with the first step".

Let the Journey begin!

Actually it do not make a difference whether you own some or not. The only thing you get out of this bundle is easier download. Price is precisely the cost of buying all of the adventures together.

So if you own a few / a lot but want all of them, you just buy them separately hence paying the same amount.

This is nice for people who want it all but want to save time clicking.

Grand Lodge

First off yes there are quite some examples of conversion. This one looks great and I am looking forward to match it up with the normal PF rules.

As for the level based character I do not really see that as a problem. Yes of course the experience should fit somehow but in reality it's doable for the master to aware bonus/penalty to fit the leveling in the AP.

Having said that : My biggest concern picking up Second darkness is not the conversion - but all those EXTRA things that has been added to Pathfinder over the years since 2ndDarkness came out.

I mean we are going to have Cavaliers, Magus even gunslingers running around with feats that have been made for the ever growning power of the characters. Of course I have to put my trust in Paizo that the balance haven't changed so much that the "new" books doesn't make 2nd easy.

From a players point of view, knowing I wont run into a oracle of fire as an example also kind of remove the thrill a bit. But I guess thats part of the price running and elderly AP.

Anyway I hope you will make a similar document for the rest of the serie as it seem to be an excellent job you have made. So thanks a bunch for it!

Anyway I am working on Kendric Voon. Working on background, appearance and so forth as it is still missing. But wanted to throw him in now as I mentioned earlier I just HAD to be part of this :-)

Just have to throw myself into this. As I just read your post, I haven't made a character concept. However I have to be part of this, since frequency and most of all RotRL is perfect.

I will try to come up with a concept quickly but I rather spent a bit extra time to make something I really would enjoy playing.

Having played PFS for about a year now what I have noticed mostly is actually the chronicle sheets items aren't worth the effort.

I just hit level 12 for the first time yesterday. And if I look at his development over the year passed I believe I only once used the chronicle sheet to buy anything and that was because I basically messed up.

Where am I going with this then?

Basically that the balance of the game should be placed on the chronicle sheets. Thereby making it possible for players to find COOL stuff they actually need during their time as a pathfinder. On top of that COOL boon sure why not. I understand people want to try all the new stuff coming out but often when something just been published there are some smaller issues to fit the balance. I therefore like the limited way of implementing these thing via Chronicle sheets.

Just how awesome wouldn't it be to sit down at a table and one of the Pathfinders pulls out this really cool item he just were able to buy (of his previous Chronicle sheet) - The table would go WOW - we are SURELY playing that scenario next time.

In other words I pretty much vote for MORE restrictions :-)

Being apart of the danish PFS community, even thought I was unable to attend until Sunday, I have to thank all involved in the planning of Viking Lodge Summer Games.

People were tired and wasted when I met them Sunday morning however most were up for the challenge, as the rest of the day was executed to perfection with plenty of epic moments.

Even when planning went a bit off track others stepped up and got a table running. A table I luckily had the pleasure of being a part of. It was outstanding.

All in all a huge thanks to all involved hosts, GMs and players alike.
And a special thanks Mike for spending a few days in our little part of the world. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to say hi myself, I know it has mend a lot to everyone that you stopped by for the Summer Games.

Grand Lodge 1/5

I too want to add my thoughts on the subject!
First off "Phones" - tools for game Check everything else no can do. As Pain writes.

All this about your table I kind of agree with however have a more soft look at the situation. I took have been caught up in distractions, I am sure we all have, both as a player and a master. I have a more relaxed approach unless it ruins MY experience. If people want to sit down and be somewhat active but not hole hearted find by me but I will eventually do the same as the GM. Rule no. 1 for me - are everyone enjoying themselves including me then fine.

but it seems to me you did not find the amusement in the season and then you are entitled to "demand" people to follow the game or find something else. of course as in any other conflict management do that by rolling a damn good diplomacy check.

But do not take the battle to the table, evaluate afterwards and tell the other what you feel. We often meet for a soft drink / beer afterwards where good things and bad things are spoken out loud. That's the forum to handle these issues.

Then for bystanders - Let them be there (QUIETLY) they might be the next PFS master on the rise, they just have to see how everyone else are doing it.

As a side note I have to describe what can come out of not paying attention to the Venture Cap in the beginning. A few seasons ago I and another player was so caught up in our faction mission (both are Osirion) that we did not hear the warning of cursed items. What happened we ended up with those items and "had to try them on for size".
It was the laugh of the night - two stupid spell casters experimenting with cursed items. So not listening do not have to be all bad - so roll with the flow (punches) and see how foolish your table can act. After all they even might screw up the mission completely which can be fun too.

I have spend some time reading a bit about Riddleport and think my submission will change somewhat. I will come up with some kind of low life rogue type of person that thrive in the dark alleys of Riddleport. After all this town is somewhat a criminal haven.

Living in Denmark its around noon now and I will have background and description done before bedtime tonight.

Grand Lodge

Greetings follow PFers.

I recently got Animate Dead (undead Sorcerer) and realized that during a PFS session it can be really time consuming to "animate" the opponent and fill out a companion sheet for the specific creature.

I along with my Venture Captain have then decided to have some generic templates ready for use when ever my Sorc Animate someone.

Question is then - have anyone made such templates ready for printout (some they of course would like to share).

I am not talking about all kind of variants just the basic Skeleton/Zombie versions. My character is currently level 9 (incl. Undead Master) so he counts as a 13th level in terms if HD animated which is a neat extra bonus.

I hope one or some of you have been thru this before and therefore made some template that can be reused quickly.

thanks a bunch in advance.

On top of my head I am thinking along the lines of an arcane trickster. Focus would be a lowlife scum that dabble with the arcane powers he probably borrowed somewhere.

I will work out details and I am aware of the fact the arcane trickster are for the future since he would need both 2nd level arcane spells and +2d6 Sneak attack.

Race would prob. be a ½elf growing up in Riddleport being more human than elfish. But as mentioned idea and details need to be worked at.

Grand Lodge

Wow this is quickly taking shape. Best be on the toes. I will get hold of the Players tomorrow when stores open (if possible) then start reading. I wont just come up with a background because I think I will try to "match" Riddleport somewhat.

Anyway keep the ideas coming they are pretty darn good ;-)

we just need Nayr to run the whole show

Male Human 3rd level bookworm + 3rd level Martial Artist

Just to let everyone know - I am here to look over ya shoulders. I have been permitted by GMLorebane to lurk around this game as it unfold. Oddly enough I too look forward to getting it up and running.

Good luck to ya all, ya will no doubt need it!

Grand Lodge

First off : Yes I would love to be in.

Reason are multiple.

1) Just won the whole Second Darkness campaign as a Best Gamemaster price at Blood under absalom, so I have anything just standing on the shelf anyways. Would I dig into it for clues - of course not that would only ruin the experience for myself.

::: Correction apparently its only the AP I have Oh well just have to invest in the rest ;-) :::

2) I never played a AP before so that would be a first.

3) A month prep time suit my mood perfectly since I rather spent time on dreaming up the right character before having to drop a sheet. Often when these kind of ads are up a character is required within 2 seconds or the train left without ya. This way I would have plenty of time to come up with a background - read what ever player material needed to qualify for 2nd Darkness and so forth.

As a side note: My character generation method is called walking the dog - since my evening walks with my dog are spent imaging roleplay builds. That way also take a few evenings to come up with the right one for the job.

Anyway to be to the point : Let us know if preparation for a trip Riddleport should begin!

Especially the sleeping necessities like bedroll, (tent), maybe a blanket and such. Skip em or smack the player with extra hours of sleep or fatigue the next morning? This example, of course, is a bit exaggerated.

As a GM I don't want to worry about things like do they character have a bedroll or not - of course I should in game terms but it would take too much management and cost on the fluency of the game.

As a player however - I would never leave home without it. When I try to come up with a character its NOT the game functions that drives my shopping list. Its what do I feel that person would have. Everyone who has to sleep on the ground from time to time WOULD get some kind of bedroll (leaf bed what ever) otherwise they simply wouldn't last the week. Any homeless you see in the streets take care of that issue, any boy scout sleeping in the woods. Basically any sane person would be carrying a bedroll (or similiar) so do all of my character. Weight is a problem but rather have a crappy armour that sleep badly every night.

The few times I have been GMing in PFS I haven't made a big deal of it, as I am playing with seasons adventures I kinda expect them (who know the rules 10 times better than I do) to uphold their end of the bargain. The Table are suppose to be fun and making equal rules for everyone, so if I realize one or more left home without food or in theory cant even walk because their min/maxing char have 5 in strength then I would do something about it. But it have not come up as a big issue.

However clothes, armours and so forth weight people down and should do so - after all that's one of the strengths with playing Dwarf. Neglecting that is the same as removing part of the dwarven abilities which just aren't fair.

How strict am I : On a scale 1-10 I would say a 2 until I realize someone are not keeping within the rules (on purpose) then I goes to the other end of the scale.

Grand Lodge

Let me start by saying I haven't read all the replies but here are my thoughts.

Having someone like you at the table is "GOLD"

this is the truth from my perspective. I am not very rule orientated and frankly hate people correcting me but still done correctly your kind is the most valuable asset at the table if you play your cards right.

Its all about communication, after all everyone at the table is there for the fun including the master (who I might add aren't the enemy). I like playing but really love mastering and having someone that can advise on the rules as we go along is really cool. Don't ever change it - but instead of being annoyed by the masters lack of rule knowledge (he just rolled a natural 1 that poor bastard).

As the example of the backstab rule - then try to choose your wording instead of busting out "Damn you are wrong", roll high on diplomacy and come up with "I seem to recall that these foul creatures are in fact able to backstab" he the master goes "nah this can't" then go with it for that encounter and have a talk about it when a natural break occurs.

Players and masters are a team, a team to make the most fun out of it so go for the team work approach.

Let me be the first to admit what I am going to write now are not going to be liked by anyone least of all by Micheal.

And let's get it clear I feel the idea is fine however unrealistic.

This is why: (be ready to flame the messenger)

We all have our characters, some make them in a hurry others spend days planing and developing, building and enjoying every little detail of the creation time. We run off to play a great PFS event and we realize the character just are not what the paper suggested. With the current rules its just plainly too bad. Nothing to do about it. But as Micheal suggest use level 1 to play test the character would be smart.

But frankly what is the difference in reality. We all have 100 access to our sheets no one carries a copy and everyone can change tiny bits and piece no one would ever know but yourself. Cheating YES no doubt, doable without consequence since no one can keep track of it, happening I am sure it does from time to time.

So why implement a rule that basically only eliminate the "illegal" thoughts of the action. Should it be have a serious effect then everyone should have their character stored with stats, abilities, feats, items etc stored on some server. That automatically close down for certain updates after level 1.

But with the current setup : I have my own sheet. Its pretty much impossible to handle.

Having said that I am all in for it in theory just believe there are probably more useful changed MB could use his valuable time on!

Oh yes one final thing : I am NOT telling people to cheat in anyway shape or form, just being darn realistic about the case.

Grand Lodge

I am currently playing a Sorcerer Undead blood line. Not overly powerful but fun as hell. However I have made some mistakes along the way.

First off my stats Str12, Dex16, Con10, Int12, Wis9, Cha17 (incl. race bonus for human)
Errors was Con 10: I would go for at least 12 but rather 14 as its really darn important in PFS. Secondaly Str 12 - GEEZ I can carry stuff - what a waste honestly. Bags of holding is just around the corner so DUMP the strength. In other word -Str +Con +Cha.. It does scream Gnome doesnt it!

Now a good thing
My blood line aint powerful however I went with Sleep a low level (switched it out later) and with undead bloodline you can actually sleep undead. Its nice because quite a few of the low level adv. I have been on had Zombies or Skeletons. So works well but surely flavourful at best.

As for spells being undead I of course had a focus on Necromancy but at low level Magic Missile plain and borring is really good. Remember NO attack roll just point and hear 'em scream.

Feats : basically no matter what you want to do then Improved Initiative is REALLY nice. I learned later on with vanish (APG spell I believe) that be able to come first and disappear is really useful due to summoning being such a slow starting spell. Yes I went for summoning due to Skeleton Summoning and Undead Master. But again thats for flavour.
If you are going to summon then Augment Summon is a dream get it EARLY.
But I would also not worry about Summon Monster I till a bit later, specially works nice when Vanished as mentioned.

Anyway Sorc. are fun no matter what blood line so read them thru and pick the one you feel could make a "Oh thats so cool"-line.

Grand Lodge 1/5

Who in their right mind would join a society as Pathfinders at the age of 10. Even more important what Venture captain believe such a person is ready for what ever lies out there.

Rule wise its as stated above, Role play wise its seem to me to be just insane!

Grand Lodge

drop mage armour all together. Its in PFS so basically just grab a wand with 50 charges. Its so much easier. The same can pretty much be said for any buff spell.

Sorcs should have fire power in their arsenal even at low level.

And I would pick up feather fall as a backup spell when the guy suddenly have to leap off a cliff to save himself for some avalanche.

Oh yes might be a typo but you have 2 dispel Magic at level 10.

To go with some of the more strange ones how about create pit. A friend of mine gave me a heads up on that one and its surely going into my sorc. build. Perfect for crowd control. Dump the creature coming at you into a pit and let the party shoot it down from the top. Think its a DC 25 to get up from or something like that. Its a fun little spell of 2nd level, which could go in instead of alter self.

Grand Lodge

Well for PFS, i have learned that no matter what character you are then you fit in. However there are some guidelines, like never stink in perception.
But what I would do was, choose a class you like and then make it more versatile, by focusing on social skills along with the primary focus the class has. I once ended up in a party of 3 cleric (being on myself) - we were basically the same except one had developed a bit outside the core. HE was more useful.

So think of yourself more or less as a solo character. You need a bit of everything, however keep your focus. Then no matter what group you end up in you can wing it and be useful. Too much specialization can be utterly useless if one in the party end up with the same role.

as for classes, bard and divine spell users are always great.

Grand Lodge

Instead of trying to "defend" my arguments by picking out bit by bit. I just want to say as for criteria I have been brought up with the early 80ties roleplay games, there were three types basically, Non-spellcaster (melee) spellcasters and semi-spellcasters (ala ranger/paladin).

Noone are arguing that Rangers cant be melee based, heck everyone can. In Rolemaster from ICE in the early days everyone could pick up any weapon and throw themselves into melee.

PF (as being a D20 based system) I kind feel have been more combat orientated that the earlier versions of DnD, this also made everyone more melee orientated and thats why many also spell casters like the summoner actually can been darn good in melee.

Ndar hit the head on the nail with "Melee 'character' vs. melee 'class' I suppose is the argument here" and thats basically what I wanted to say by not getting the answers. No doubt there are many many many cool builds possible in melee based and ranged based combat characters.

As a last note and don't rip my head clean off with this. These are ALL answers mine included based on personal preferences, so by declaring everyone "dead wrong" - simply stats the fact that the thread can be misunderstood whats the intent, so lighten up and stop being so defensive, people me included might come with arguments someone feel are strong but its all about a valid discussion.

Anyway my points are still the same love the Cavalier and feel spellcaster wise magus are neat melee class :-)

Grand Lodge

I don't get this thread or rather most of the replies.

Melee class of choice: Which melee class do you prefer or is it which class works best in melee.

If its which melee class preferable then 99% of all answered are dead wrong, since they are about summoners, clerics, druids, etc.

Melee classes in my words are classes who do NOT use arcane or divine magic hence leaving out pretty much everyone but the monk, fighter, barbarian and rogue (and of course gunslingers, Cavaliers, ninjas and samurais) I might have left one or two out anyway. Of those I love the idea of the cavalier but playing PFS its often dungeon crawls so focusing on "mounting" aint all that cool but over all love the idea of the class. (and it brings memories back to DnD version 1 which is nice too). Monks on the other hand are prob. the coolest for multiclassing so they would have an edge there

if its who one like best in melee, well then the ranged dudes Rangers, Gunslingers, zen monks and ranged spell casters are out of the question. As for who are cool in melee, well magus comes to mind - always loved the idea of bringing "weak" mages into upfront combat. And with Magus you do JUST that.

but thing its party depending when it come down the line...

Grand Lodge

Actually its super that my reply provoked ya people. It was ment that way. I think the general problem here is people try to explain why they want to make a character with minimum stats somewhere and maxed in the right places. Its not a matter of "I roleplay, you do not".

All of us try to make a character and play in. Some put a lot of effort into the mechanics others into their story. Most I believe even do both!

When I read the first post of this by now very LONG thread I smiled. Mainly because it was a fustrated player that did not understand why one of the people in the party did not play the way "he/she" expected. This is actually GREAT in my termonology. Its the challenge of having different people at the table. That should make it more fun, after all PF (or any RPG) are social games. Did we not care completely about roleplaying, then I would think picking up PF would be a huge mistake. It simply wouldn't be interesting in the long run, after all its only fun to smack the Goblin so many times.

Should people be allowed to make Strange Roleplaying Characters, surely. Should people be allowed to make characters that have sevens in all mental stats to be ultimate fighting machines, of course they should. One aint better than the other. And that's the tone I feel this thread has taken. Which is the main reason I took the "other approach".

As for my Sorc. being an issue (to take the personal attack). I developed that one via background story first then try to fill in the blanks with mechanics. Is his crappy damage dealer. No doubt but still there is a complete plan from 1 to 12th with him. Trying to get as much flavour into the characters and mechanics as I can. Will he be outstanged at level 10 probably but far from useless. And thats the difference be that character and the rogue described in the begin.

Playing a character that right out ruin the party, or worse the fun for the people around the table should reconsider their purpose of playing.

As for the hero approach I find that very valid. In PFS we start with 20 pts which provide a possible average of 13.167 or approximately 2.67 more than the commoner. or 25,4% better at pretty much everything, so no doubt Adventurers are above average people.

All I am pointing out, is there are no reason to believe one or the other way is the one true way. The Rogue is entitled to his behavour, as are anyone else around the table, as long as they aren't ruining the fun of the game.
Question then would be : Do the Rogue ruined the game, then its the GMs job to spot that and have a talk with both parts (those who feel that and the Rogue).

But I do disagree that Optimizing is Roleplaying.
It has nothing to do with roleplaying as I see it.
Roleplaying is as the word says playing the role. Whether the character has 14,13,13,13,13,13 or 18,10,16,7,7,11. Aren't what matters roleplay wise - its being the character with THOSE stats. First being pretty much just that bit better than everyone in the street no matter what, and second being a babbling idiotic that can lift a mountain - both are valid roleplaying. But Playing the second like a genius battle machine that out smarts everyone, should be reconsidered (however still roleplaying).

Anyway I guess what I am trying to say with these long posts are simply that people should accept the different aspects and enjoy the game time they have. After all we all invest huge amount of hours into this for the enjoyment we get!!!

I have been reading a bit of these comments and wanted to throw my thought into the mix.

Reason is simple: I could be that rogue.

I have played D&D since early 80ties and have had my share of "ROLEPLAY" more the "Rollplay" which the term use to be. Since 3.0 came out things turned more and more Rollplay than Roleplay, with 3.5 going overboard.

However have said that does not mean I am against it, just stating the facts. Along with the shifting of time came computer games where more and more learned to think in mechanics and it became accepted that was the way to build characters. It is.... for some!!

Currently I am an sorcerer in PFS that choose the Undead bloodline. Already there people that goes for mechanics starts to grow grey hair. I basically stinks compared to everyone else I play with which can be annoying for everyone. I am aware of that fact.

But why then - reason is simple if we all went with the best possible optimized character of a given race/class why the devil have the variety.
With my current 5th level sorcerer I am starting to come at age and starting to become more and more necromanic in my abilities with summoning undeads etc. Still they wont ever match up to a blast focused sorcerer but aint that part of the game to - trying to find new ways to play a character ?

If people ONLY are allowed to play a class with the best build why play RP at all why not go for a different type of game where rules are made to FIT the box of those people that believe its the only way.

So are the author wrong in his assumption about the Rogue: YES he is.
The rogue way to play his character is completely up to him. If it ruins it for everyone else, then I hope the rogue understand that because then its the social of playing together getting ruined not the adventure in it self.

Is optimizing WRONG : Most certainly NOT - its just what people fancy. I love number crushing and made a ton of builds with 3.5 but with Pathfinder I simply don't wanna spent the time going into depth with it.

What to do about people like "us" that called themselves Roleplayers ages ago - well we are getting old and dying out soon that later :-) but in the meanwhile if you come across one of us and you feel its ruining your pleasure of the game - have a talk with the person. PF have hit the core with one rule: IT SHOULD BE FUN!!! (and thats for everyone).

What would I do if my PFS character are annoying the people I play with. I of course would do my very best to get it to fit in knowing very well that I could not ever fill the shoes one with a power build could. But I would try my very best to be a party member, for better or worse WITHOUT feeling I lost the fun of it myself.

So my advise would be bring up the concern around that table because many more might feel the same and if lets say 6 out of 8 expect different and losing the fun then its 6 TOO much. Maybe the Rogue can change his "roleplay" a bit and take a feat or two to make him more useful - it can be little things but it has to be settled around that table.

First thought about a character would be a Witch-hunter type inquisitor. He will be hunting down fanatics who he deem a menace to society. All in his own somewhat twisted perspective of what is right and what is wrong.

Clad in a dark leathery cloak armed with some kind of gun, he brings justice to those who deserve it! I will work out the details later today!

I have always been a fan of those mechanical/magical worlds, and always wanted to make one myself. I will SURELY throw myself into your page and go thru it all.

As for character - no doubt I will come up with something but I wanna read all that is available first.

Time has come to introduce Milosh Konac to you.

Milosh is a proud man of the wilderness. A trapper by the looks of it!
Dressed in a fur coat that provides shelter from the rough winds that at times blows in from the western sea. A large black wild and little kept beard dominate his face. His skin is weather beaten and tanned. Under his large brows a pair of deep set brown eyes shines calmly.

On a long pole swung over his shoulder, he carries half a dozen hare furs and in a strong leather leash a wolf is kept in place. The wolf even though it is still but a cub, growls at any person getting too close, resulting in most people staying clear of the canine.

Milosh is in town to sell the latest few furs, he has been able to gather, and in hope to pick up a few news of the world.

He is somewhat local, some of the people of Sandpoint have had the pleasure of doing business with the trapper before, as he do not charge a large price for whatever fur he brings into town. Often settling for a barrel of ale or some freshly baked loafs of bread.

Milosh is a human wolf shaman (druid) that at times helps out as a local guide. Travelers have realized that the wolves for some reason do not seem to harass or even attack when Milosh serve as a guide.

I surely also have to add my interest, I am however as you new to PBP but have been playing RPG since mid80ties.

A character concept will follow later today!

Hmm cover price -30% that seem pretty good for US people but for EU folk i am not so sure.

My locate game store sells the product to 160Dkkr which is just above USD30 which of course compared to your price is more than doubt (being sold at Paizo for USD 14) however then comes taxes and shipping. Taxes are 25% (for Denmark) and shipment are normally translate into another 100Dkkr (USD 19)

so the calculation would mean one have to pay 14+25%+19 = USD36.5 for the subscription or one could say to avoid going to the locale game store and pick it up one have to pay (for my case at least) an additional USD 5.

All this sums up to people probably wont subscription too much from EU. So if you think about getting a marked over here then maybe something should be considered.

Just a comment (I know it aint all good but that the facts at least - however only reason this is an issue is because you make superb products which I personally hoped would be more "accessable" in EU)

personally I rather see the other side of the screen ... I mean thats where the "value" will be .. otherwise its just a pretty piece of cardboard which I pretty much could mix up myself.

But looking forward to getting my hands on it since I just started investing in Pathfinder (beta rule, CoreRule and Chronicles)
