I have been informed that we hunt the cult of Lissala. I do know something about this elusive group. He briefs the team on the information in the three knowledge religion spoilers above (so everyone please read). I have traveled to Kaer Maga. As much as l like to wander, I cannot say a look forward to returning to the City of Strangers. It is a dangerous place where evil creatures walk the streets and trolls, and worse are citizens.

Entering the briefing room a little late, a young, starry eyed half elf wearing the holy symbol of the dreamer slips in as quietly as possible. I have been asked to accompany you. There is some belief among the 10 that that strong divine magics will be needed for complete success. he says little else and tries to catch up on what has been said. Knowledge Religion: Lissala: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

Just found out I was selected to play. Deneb is a 9th level cleric of Desna - 3387-2. He is an alias of Skorn. Will have to update the alias completely but I use Herolab, so it should not take long. :) Deneb has travel and luck domains. Two of the three best in my opinion. :) He will have a high AC and can stand in the front line if he has to. Just no one expect him to hit anything. I have not played him in a while so let me dust him off and brush up on his tactics. I do recall that with Travel he can dimension door a few times a day as a move action - always handy. And with Luck he can let his friends roll twice to hit, making characters like Capricornus even more effective. So he is a healing support cleric with a good AC. But he is good aligned and will not tolerate evil in the party... be warned. :) If the bard can handle disable devises, or if you decide you do not need a rogue, I'll bring in this cleric. But since both a druid and a bard CAN heal, if you guys want, I could bring in an 8th level rogue with trapspotter, who spring attacks. Since he is a scout he always will get sneak attack with his spring attacks and is quite a beast - using his great axe to attack with. He outshines fighters in single hits and does not stand toe toe for full attacks unless he absolutely has to. A little warning - The rogue has played up quite a bit and is, well, well equipped. He is a Quadirian trade prince as well and benefits from buying items at a 10% discount. Add very good day job rolls - slight of hand, (and slow progression for more day job rolls) and a couple money boons you might argue he has too much money for his level. Strangely all this was not intentional and I honestly did not realize it until a DM pointed it out to me. The cleric is likely just the opposite and is a little below the money curve for his level. So, cleric, or rogue? You guys pick. I'll have fun either way.

Having heard that such creatures can sometimes read minds Deneb 'thinks' at the devil in the cage. We are opposites, you and I, but still I would see you freed. No creature should be caged. After inspecting the cage as best he can he moves through the crowds keeping an eye on a few of the cheaters, looking for ways to expose their crimes. Deneb hopes to sell his keen eyes to the owner. He hopes being able to spot the cheaters should be of great value someone.

So, this is the Golden Goblin.Deneb states the obvious as he surveys the establishment and the crowd. I wonder if I can both work there and gamble some... Deneb watches for a minute or two trying to notice what sort of customers are going in and if employees are using a different entrance. If there is only one entrance being used, he will get in line. Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24

Can we assume that Eris and Deneb got to have their breakfast somewhere along the line and Eris was able to put on some other clothing? Deneb eyes the line. Well, this is not what I was wanting to see. I wonder where I go to see about a job? He walks closer looking over the scene. Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
M Half Elven Cleric 1
Deneb laughs out loud at the thieft, glad that he keeps his coins of value deep in his backpack and only a few coppers on his belt. The city feeds itself. he explains to Tal. To Eris he lectures Lad, you have much to learn about my Lady of the Heavens. She cares little for the laws of men and their ideas of justice. Besides, I do not run well in this heavy armor. he lies. Bluff 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 Bluff: With his travel domain he actually moves pretty well in his armor.
M Half Elven Cleric 1
Then 5 sounds perfect. Deneb will be good at preventing people from dieing early, baring those crits with great axes and other X3 multiplier weapons. Not much he can do about one hit kills. And the cleric has a few tricks up his sleeve. Plus he has a 14 strength, which is rare for my cleric builds. So fear the damage from my 1d8+2 morningstar. :P
M Half Elven Cleric 1
At a home table 5 can be more fun that 6. Not sure that dynamic applies in a PBP thought. My guess is that when it comes to combat we will really miss having our fighter. We have 4 non-melee types that will do sub-optimal damage in a fight. I do not mean to slight anyone, but simply state my opinion of the classes we have. Despite my desire to see the white haired witch in action, I have to conclude we are on the weak side of the melee chart. So, how bad we need a 6th will depend on the challenge level our DM throws at us...
M Half Elven Cleric 1
LOL. You are somewhat impatient my friend. Weekends are usually slow in most of these PBP games, and this was a long weekend for those of us in the US. I am available to post throughout the weekends myself, but have found most players are not. I am waiting for the beggar to do something. Not sure if he will attack, or try to pick my pocket, or if he really has an ally about to flank with him. Deneb has a pretty high perception score so maybe he will not be surprised if we are about to move to melee here in the street. But Deneb will not attack first, or even threaten the beggar, so he is in his wait and see what happens mode.
M Half Elven Cleric 1
The blot seems to be some cloud effect in the sky. some miasma or obscurement that floats high in the air. he comments to no one in particular. Then, quickly reaching into a small pocket, Deneb grabs one of the few coppers he has taken to housing there since he entered this city, for just this purpose. Then feed your sister young one, and yourself. he says with a smile. He tosses the coin to the beggar, but intentionally throws it high, just over the boy's head, so that he will have to turn away go grab the coin. Toss 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14 Deneb's hand goes to his morning stat after the through, just in case the boy does not turn away.
M Half Elven Cleric 1
The three you list are PBP standards. Not sure how, but sometimes people also post in green. What does that mean and how do you do it? Also when I speak in a language other than common I use a spoiler. And good intro by the way. Deneb is +13 Perception, so he will likely soon notice you if you hang back only 20 feet. But that is fine. He will likely only keep an eye on you for now. :)

Talant'edhel wrote: "Looks as if Desna's smiling on both of us. I'll come, but I'll take why you ran headlong into me over the meal. I am not quite that poor." yet. As the three walk towards the tavern where Eris stays Deneb smiles at the question and comments in Elven. Ennyn Durin aran Riddleport Talant'edhel. Pedo mellon a minno
Elven: You are new to Riddleport Talant'edhel. I have only been in this city for a few weeks and already I have learned not to ask the "why" questions.

Deneb looks up at the second story broken window and then back down at the hard cobble stones, and then addresses both Eris and Talant'edhel. If you fell from that height it is a wonder you do not need my help. Does someone pursue one or both of you? He looks concerned and not judgmental. As to your question, alas, the Song of the Spheres is heard throughout these lands and her clerics must roam to hear her in entirety. he says in way of explanation. I am here because my goddess called me here. We have a new church, in another district. But that work is now done, at least for my part, and I am following another tune. One that is quite and less defined at the moment. He changes his tone after assuring himself that no one is hurt and after answering Talant'edhel's question. Apparently the song now says get a job, as my purse is too light for much more than another night's room and a hot meal. I have heard that the Golden Goblin might be hiring sharp eyed elves to watch over this great game they have scheduled. Desna has gifted me with a watchful eye and I think that skill might earn me a coin, no?

Deneb wandered. That was part of him. And today he was doing it in Riddleport. Not the worst city he had ever been in, and a far cry from the best. There was danger here. But also friends. Brothers. Sisters. Desna had called him here to help out. A new church was born. He had lingered here longer than he thought; a few weeks now. but he sensed a change was coming. It might be time to move on. He had done what he could for the church, using both his magical energies and his skills to help the fledgling organization take root and get a start here. But his dreams these last few nights have been calling him to something different. Something darker. There was no use ignoring such dreams. He had learned that over the years. When Desna told him a task was done, it was done. And he better start looking for the next thing. Better start, well, wandering. His wandering today took him to the Wharf District. He had been here before but it never felt quite like this. Today he felt Desna in his step. He was supposed to be here. But Why? he wondered. There should be some sign. There always was a sign. CRASH The sound of breaking glass startled him out of his daydream and into reality. The street was clearing to reveal two people prone on on the cobbles. They could be hurt. He moves against the flow of people toward these two. And elf and a man. No, not quite a man. What was he? As Talant'edhel helps Eris to his feet the half elf is there, only a few feet away. I am Deneb, hand of Desna. he intones, as if the holy symbol on his armor does not sufficiently advertise his calling. Are either of you hurt?
M Half Elven Cleric 1
I like the idea that Deneb knows Restless Cherry Blossom already, but I think she has been in the city a lot longer than he. He is likely seeing you in the street and trying to befriend you, and might even have taken to calling something more familiar than your full name (Cherry?) He would also be trying to get you to come into the church of Desna, unless you have clearly communicated that you strongly follow Calistria, in which case he would back off some but every once in a while comment off handed about what a shame that such a pretty and talented girl would follow such a lonely and vengeful deity. There is a better way my child... One thought for the two non-elves. If you have room for it, it might be a good trick if we all spoke elven. Four of us already do. I note that both of you have chosen other languages, for good role playing reasons, no doubt. It could be worth picking up Elven now or later.

Deneb has Detect Magic covered, so your zeros work for me. My skill points are low (my main problem with the cleric class) but I am decent with Diplomacy due to high Charisma and a trait that enhances it. And I am nearly broken with perception. But pretty much everyone needs that skill. Deneb will try to tank some as his AC gets up there, taking heavy armor proficiency likely at third level IF he can afford plate by then. And he will be the main healer I think, with 6 channels per day. Glad to see that Eris has cure light as well though so someone can save Deneb when he goes down. edit While Deneb does have Detect Magic, he is not trained in spellcraft yet so will not be identifying anything. |
