Apologies about not posting sooner, but I have been down internet wise for roughly a week, and will not have internet back up yet for a week or so.
This means that I haven't had internet for the last 4 days (as we had 4 days off at my work for the holiday).
It's been...an experience where I learned that I use the internet more than I thought I did.
With all of that being said, I will try to post from work as I can, but if I am in your game, please bot me as needed.
If I am running your game, please bear with me while I try to post when I can. Hopefully, sooner than better, but I want to be up front about this issue.
Posting this to all my games, so sorry if you see it multiple times:
This week both my office and I personally are going to be moving. It's been crazy busy and I am not going to be able to post until Monday at the earliest. Please bot me if I am in your game, and if you are in a game I am running, I will get a post up as soon as possible.
Dawncaller blinks at the sudden infusion of light and says "Ah, I see you found your friend. That is good." Turning to Vitrius, Dawncaller will say "Hello. My name is Dawncaller, and it is a pleasure to meet you."
I enjoy this game a great deal. It's not often that you get to [spoiler].
If that is the way you feel, however, I comepletely understand. It's better to end a game on a high note than to let things fester and die. Let's get the band back together and have one last adventure, says I.
"It's okay. I like to be up front in how I treat others. It saves alot of time." Turning to the shadowy figure, Dawncaller adds "So, what will it be friend?"
"Now, friend, that would be a silly thing to so. We clearly outnumber you, and you have nothing to gain by trying to kill us, especially when being polite doesn't cost you anything." Dawncaller chuckles and adds "I'll even go first. My name is Dawncaller, and I recently won my freedon from the arena by defeating 100 consecutive battles." Dawncaller pauses to let that settle in then finishes with a simple "And you are?"
"Well, I hope that helped. You folks take care, and make sure to keep your promise to Razda, or she'll kill you if you're lucky. I need to find a place to stay for the night."
"I am truly sorry to bother you Lady. I did not imagine that I would get the chance to speak to you. I know you are busy, so I will get to the point, as we both know I am a man who does not like to mince words. These folks here are looking for a friend of theirs, who was a slave here recently. I have heard that you sold him to one of the guilds, but could not find out which one, so I hoped that you could possibly be willing to part with that information. That being said, I'm just helping them out, mostly because I'm curious to see where this leads. I'll let them negotiate a deal with you, because you know I'm not all that good with words."
With that, Dawncaller will gesture towards the others.
Dawncaller looks confused and says "I've never heard of a district of the city called Zendikar, although from the sounds of things, it's probably controlled by the Golgari swarm. Are you part of their military?"
"Like I said, you seemed like you needed it. Plus, it really doesn't cost me anything except a bit of my time. I also don't like anything that dulls your senses; in my experience, it's always more trouble than it's worth." Thinking for a second, Dawncaller will add "What part of the city you folks from, anyway? and how'd you come to be friends with a vampire?"
"Thanks. I wasn't sure I would be okay when it starting shouting at me. Glad things worked out though."
"As far as Razda goes, I didn't think that she would have time for me. Could you check and see if she might be willing to squeeze us into her busy schedule?"
As the guard goes to check, Dawncaller will turn to the others and say "If we get a chance to speak to Razda, even if you dislike slaves or people that own them, speak to her with respect. She has both kinds of power, and crossing her would be a bad idea; there's a persistant rumor that she runs one of the guilds, but I'm not sure which one. At any rate, she is connected and has personal power as well. Be respectful and everything will be okay."
"Also," Dawncaller will add, "Make sure that any agreement you make with her includes you making any payment arrangements up front. Leave nothing open-ended."
"Not quite yet, but I was hoping that you might be able to answer a question for me. This lot" Dawncaller jerks his thumb at the foreigners he just saved from addiction and death "were friends with those two vampires that showed up the other day. I heard the one that survived got sold to one of the guilds, but I don't know which one. you wouldn't happen to know would you? and if not, could you find out?"
"If your friend is the one that I'm thinking of, he fought in the arena a couple of days ago. They fought the champion and then the vampire to who did not continually threaten Razda was sold to one of the other guilds. I could take you to the arena and ask one of the guards I know there if they could at least tell us what guild he was sold to. And yes, my slave name was Dawncaller."
"I am gladiator no more, having won my freedom." To Kick-lick he will add "Was your friend a beastman of some kind or a creature of the night? If it is the latter, I know that there were 2 vampires of note in the arena within the last few days."
"I saw you going into the back alley with a spice dealer. I figured you might be out of your depth, and you should know all the rules of a match before you participate."
The large man has no guild signets or brands of any kind.
"As for your friend, maybe I've seen him in the arena? Tell me what he looks like and I'll tell you what I know."
The man considers for a moment then says "Yes, one could. I believe it is typically snorted, but you could put it in someone's drink." Turning to the Spice vendor, he will add "Isn't that right?"
GM only:
btw, in my earlier post I wasn't lying when I said it was deadly; from Dawncaller's perspective, taking it is lethal, since it slows your reaction times and deadens your situational awareness, both of which are lethal in an arena.
As the two people turn to face him, the stranger rose to his full height of 7' 7" and then said "Strangers, I do not think that you wish to purchase spice from this man. It clouds the mind and leads to death."
While the giant man was clearly armed with a Trident, a longsword, a Maul, and a shield, he wore no armor (indeed, he did not even wear a shirt). His head was shaven, but it appeared to have been done with a knife as opposed to someone who specialized in cutting hair. His torso sported an impressive array of scars, many of which appeared to have the hallmarks of mortal wounds.
While he obviously lacked training to anyone who was trained themselves, it was clear that he was attempting to be diplomatic.
The man then continued speaking: "Or, if you wish is to purchase spice, then by all means proceed. It just seemed as though you might be new here and did not know what spice is. I'm sorry if that is not the case. Either way, I would decide before this man's friends show up to rob your drugged bodies."
The large man then stood there, awaiting the group's response.
Dawncaller will attempt to stealthily enter the alley and listen to what they are being told. If they're just getting information, that'd be one thing. If he's trying to sell them on his product, I'm gonna have to step in.
Stealth Check:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 Perception Check to listen in on the conversation:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Dawncaller blinks in the sunlight, shoulders his meager belongings, and just...walks. He picks a direction and goes until he finds something that interests him. I imagine something like the scene from Lost in Translation where Bill Murray is walking down the street and he is at least 2' taller than anyone around him.
Is there a place in the arena where I can pay my respects to the gladiators who have fallen? If so, I would like to go there. If not, I'll nod at my cell one last time then head out into the city.
As the abomination falls, Dawncaller is quiet, for just a moment. Then, he jubilantly raises his blade above his head and lets out a primal roar, made of anger, sadness, and joy. As his roar echoes through the arena, Dawncaller will collect the creature's head and present it to the arena master with a bow.
I'll take the damage. I'm also at 14/35, before whatever acid damage I take.
Dawncaller will put his foot on the creature's chest and with a heave shove it back, pulling out his sword in the process. He then swings his blade at the creature's neck, hoping to decapitate it.
Dawncaller is blown back by the force if the scream; a little blood trickles from his nose, which is wipes distractedly with the back of his swordhand. He then spins his sword around his massive hand 3 times (which the audience would recognize as his "I'm done messing around" signature) and then he crouches low and propels himself like a javelin towards the heart of his enemy.
Dawncaller's plan is to find a library or place of knowledge, so that he can find out if there are any more of his people here, and then find the best way to contact them.
For the time leading up to the fight, Dawncaller will focus on imaginary fights in his mind between a variety of enemies, both humanoid and animal.
I should be on the cautious side tonight and use a shield, since I have no desire to lose. Dawncaller focuses on the fight at hand and the best way to leverage his fighting style to create an entertaining fight. Afterwards...would resolve itself.
"So, any idea who my last opponent is to be? I am excited to beat them and then have my freedom.""Shame about those vampires though. I heard one of them even harmed Vraknal. They would have made for a great final fight."
Dawncaller will set the meal down and idly chat with the guard about the city: where he should go, things he should see, that sort of thing.
