Guys, I have been thinking on this for at least a couple months now. Life has gotten too hectic for me, and as such I have decided to thin out my PBP roster a bit to help make hopping on the forums less of a burden. I have decided to focus on thinning out games that have slowed in posting frequency to the point of not being easy to follow and remember accurately what is going on.

As such, I will be dropping out from this game. I hope you all the best in the PBP world here on Paizo, and hope to one day see ya’ll in another game in the future!

Are these trolls...trying to stay out of it? Maybe they would be open to peace? Or surrender? Or...maybe even helping? Were they conquered by the trolls leading this place and being forced to serve?

He gives a questioning look to Isabel, wondering if she can get a read on them...

Josef can have it IMO.

Once the creature falls and the treasure is gathered, Darian turns to lead the way onward to down the northern branch.

Darian moves beside Johanna and thrusts his blade up towards the trolls lungs...

Being a healthcare professional, I totally empathize. My dad had something similar a few years ago, but turned out he WAS having a heart attack that was triggered by pneumonia. He was nearly septic and ended up having CABG x 5. So, as frustrating as all that surely was for you, and it may sound coarse, but you were definitely very lucky!

Darian begins letting his magic flow out to his allies, bolstering their confidence and enhancing their weapons before taking a step towards the two headed troll cautiously.

Inspire Courage, 5’ Step.

Aye. Johanna, since she is being botted, can fall back behind the two of us.

Darian grunts as he stands, favoring the sore leg. He works a bit of magic and places his hand over the bite, and the wound stitches closed flawlessly. He tests some weight on it before nodding to himself and taking point again.

”Looks like we don’t have a lot of options. This way,” he says as he continues on southward through the tunnels.

”Aggghhh! Damnit!” Darian curses as he slashes at the beast from the flat of his back.

Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Damage: 1d1 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 2 = 8

Seeing the hooks straining, Darian instead maintains his shield wall in front of the others so they could fire from behind him in safety should the hounds break free.

If they are chained, can we CDG them?

”Isabel can carry a torch and finish them off as we drop them,” Darian says.

When the reach the intersection and hear the growling, he nods for Josef to head that way and falls in beside him, shield up and on the defensive.

Advancing alongside Josef. Total Defense.

Darian falls in directly beside Josef, shield up and prepared for combat. "So far so good...I wonder what trolls are doing here..."

Darian keeps his blade plunged into the trolls heart, twisting it to keep the troll down. ”Someone burn this one. Johanna and I will hold this passage. The rest of you follow Josef and check where that set of stairs leads. If it is anything more than a dead end, call back to us and we will follow.”

Darian thrusts his blade up and between a pair of the troll’s ribs! He twists it and leans into it, hoping to pierce the giant’s heart!

As the new arrivals make their way in, Darian slices at its calf muscle before replying to Josef ”Funny, and here I was wondering if perhaps you had maybe bedded one of these things wife...”

Darian takes another slash at the troll, the concern on his face becoming quite evident with the number of giants advancing on them...

Darian points to Johanna to take a position on the opposite side of the door as him.

Darian darts inside as well, slicing at the troll with his blade.

Darian wills his inner magic out to his friends, granting their weapons minor temporary enchantments to make them more effective.

”I can go invisible also, slip around to help surround them and take one out real fast...”

Darian follows along at Josef’s side, or behind him if the path is too narrow. His sword is out just in case these trolls attack...

Darian turns to the guard captain and says ”Find a safe place to hole up. We are going to investigate.”

He then follows behind Josef and Freya as they set the pace.

Darian smirks. ”Slow applause building up to frenzied enthusiasm is always nice,” he replies as he strains to turn the things head with Josef’s help.

After the hide and head are separated, he looks back to the caravan and muses ”Perhaps. If they haven’t got any aversions to such a meal.”

Loot:

A ripped and broken Mithril chain shirt
A masterwork darkwood longbow
And a tattered, bloodstained cloak of Elvenkind.

Darian looks to Josef and says ”Gimme a hand, will ya?” before stepping over and, firstly, plunges his sword into its heart to make sure it was dead. Then, he turns the head over and cleaves it free of its body before beginning the process of trying to harvest the hide from the creature.

Once that task was done, he cleans his hands and sword off before looking to the others and saying ”Well then, on to the west?”

”Josef! I’ll go right, you go left!” Darian says before charging at the drake. He lunges with his blade as soon as he is within range.

Darian raises a hand and halts the troupe. He looks to the others and says ”We are being hunted. The forest drake. I’ve heard it fly overhead a few times. Dante! Get the men and wagons to cover.”

The captain nods and begins directing the caravan to thicker trees to provide them cover.

”Let’s see about dealing with this drake...”

That’d be one way. Though they might (realistically) not just sell it to you at crafting cost. But at least the option would be available inside the city.

As to Notice loot:

24x CLW potions = 1,200 gp. Probably biggest bang for the buck. That’s 24d8+24 vs 8d8+12 if we did 4 CMW potions. So...24 CLW potions added to Group Loot.

Cloak of Resistance +1...who wants it?

1,200 gp reward for northern howls...200 gp each

I think this just leaves Shamblesap and a Forest Drake...bodes well for our next trek out...

Naw...let’s bank the BP for now and head back out to finish off the last section of the map. Then we can come back and focus on the kingdom some more.

Isabella: do you want me to take over the reigns of kingdom stuff for a bit?

Darian smiles back. ”Can only do so much with our resources for now. But a proper garrison to and facilities to protect our people is of course on the docket. I wouldn’t want our neighbors: the other groups, the Sootscale, and the lizardfolk, am any others to think we are gearing for war.”

Yeah...that sounds like a lovely combo I’m all too familiar with. Good luck buddy!

Darian laughs heartily as he waves his hand to Josef, acknowledging his defeat before returning the military salute. ”Indeed. Indeed. We shall have to work on it more, but for now, a drink perhaps?” he asks as he claps a friendly hand on Josef’s shoulder.

He talks warmly of the differences in their respective styles, openly admitting that he tends to rely on his magic to supplement what he lacks in true skill with the blade as he pours the two of them a glass of wine.

”My father, he had hired a tutor for me when I was young. He was renowned for his skill with the blade. But what he had managed to hide was his love of the drink. He was a secret drunkard, and my father’s coin provided him more opportunity to access more of it than he ever had before. Crucias was his name,” he comments as he has a seat and raises his glass to toast Josef. He takes a sip before continuing ”When my latent magic first manifested, it helped me to embarrass him during a training session when he was, to put it bluntly, drunk off his ass. His rapier shattered from the impact of my own blade combined with my magic. He attempted to take revenge on me, but my father just so happened to enter and witness it. He immediately fired him and arranged for me to begin tutoring with others skilled in similar magic. But I never forgot...”

Darian reaches into his inner shirt pocket and retrieves a small sliver of metal Josef can recognize as a shard of a sword. Darian uses his magic to cause it to float between them as he adds ”I’ve kept it with me all these years to remind me to temper myself. Keep myself focused. Though, I do admit,” he adds with a chuckle and a smile as the sliver floats back to his hand, ”sometimes I purposely forget. Have to have some fun in this life, right?”

”Nevertheless, I was hoping that perhaps you would do Isabel and I the honor of teaching our children the art of the sword when they come of age, if it is their calling? I can think of no one better to do so.”

His confidence restored, Darian goes on the offensive! He strikes out at Josef as he recovers his footing, striking the Aldori-trained swordsman on the forearm of his off-hand!

”Ha!”

Darian continues the defensive stance, as it seems to be doing better for him, which in turn rebolsters his confidence.

Side note to Isabella: per the kingdom rules...

River: A River allows water travel through your kingdom, facilitating trade and allowing irrigation. Economy increases by 1 for every 4 River hexes claimed, and Stability increases by 1 for every 8 such hexes claimed.

By my count we now have 7 hexes with rivers in them, 9 if the lakes connected to them count as well. Is this incorporated into our spreadsheet stats?

Also, our new road tally is either 3 or 5, depending on the above answer from DBH.
