Daniel graciously accepts the change of clothes and cleans himself up as best he can. He gladly accompienies the boys on the tour but refrains from telling too many stories himself.

"Tell me Serephina, does the attack yesterday seem strange to you?"

I can understand marauders, and wanting revenge, but to capture two women from the same family? I think the fire was a coverup.

"A feast would be most welcome sir, we have been out at sea many days and it would please us greatly to partake of your celebration. We are most happy to be the agents of happiness in a world too often beset by sorrow."

Finally, civilization.

"The attackers have been captured, you have nothing to fear from them. I would suggest you stay alert for any stray looters or others that wish to take advantage of the chaos caused by this scum, but that is your lord's decision of course."

"We appreciate that Captain. While you are securing the other civilians we will escort Lucianna and Serephina to their house. They are no doubt eager to ensure the safety of their relations and as you have no men to spare we will take on this small duty before returning to assist you further."

"It is a pleasure to meet you Captain Daro. This fine crew were instrumental in the capture of the dogs that attacked your fine town. Although we were going to set them on fire and let Gozreh deal with them, cooler heads prevailed and we brought them here for you to dispense justice unto them."

And collect a reward of course.

"Be at peace, we mean no harm. We are returning kidnapped women and have captured the raiders responsible for this attack."

Diplomacy 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

Daniel will carefully unload his crossbow before slinging it over his back and climbing into the longboat.

"Let us locate the authorities and let them know we have captured or killed those responsible for this."

"Once they get those fires out we should investigate. Some of these ladies will want to make sure their families are ok and I have no doubt the authorities will want to talk to the prisoners we have taken."

Daniel will stop his crossbow and examine the magical items while the others cover the pirates.

"Let us see what we have here."

An 8 doesn't hit me, I assume what happened is you saw the crit and inserted the confirm after it, which on these forums shifts the dice around. I'm guessing you actually got a 16 to hit me, which does.

Init 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Daniel takes careful aim and fires his crossbow at a slaver with a ranged weapon.

"I would rather we save any captives and then burn their ship down. Or kill them and sell it. Or capture them and turn them over to the authorities of the town they just set on fire."

"Anyone willing to burn down a town to capture slaves needs to be stopped, loot or no. And Lunthawg can finally set something on fire."

"Hah, you have me there. Well let's sneak over there and let them know what we think of that."

"What does a guilty longboat look like Hoga?"

Daniel belies the humor in his question by pulling out his personal arbalest and loading it.

Well the bouncing was almost worth the waking. On with the life of a sailor and pirate I suppose.

Daniel attempts to make himself useful about the ship, doing his best to avoid any truly difficult task while still appearing useful. You get the sense that he is less interested in avoiding work and more concerned about messing up something important.

Midway through the voyage, once the ship is in deeper water, Daniel limps to the prow of the ship and begins a ritual. There is not much chanting but he says some brief words before taking items out of a cloth, taking a bite of the food or a swig of the whiskey, then dumping said item into the sea.

"Thanks for my new life" he will half-whisper to any who are close enough to hear.

Once the ship arrives at the burning port he casts about for anything moving in the flames or some sign of it's reason.

Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Daniel will limp through the market stalls of the town, looking for the simple items he needs to give thanks to Gozreh for his rescue and continued survival. After purchasing several sticks of cooked meat, a bottle of cheap rum, and a bottle of expensive whiskey. Some cooked corn or potatoes and a smoked fish will round out the list.

Assuming I can find all of these things will they cost book price?

After his shopping is complete Daniel makes his way back to the ship. Everything but the cheap rum he will prepare into a sacrificial bundle which he will cast off the side when they are back in deep ocean. The cheap rum he will quietly drink in his hammock.

Daniel carefully weighs the pouch of money in his hands. Looking at the others speculatively, he nods.

"I will accompany you into town, I have been too long at sea."

Daniel scratches his head a bit from the prow of the ship where he is observing the chain of girls asking Ragnar for permission to join the crew.

Well that worked out better than I expected. That should make shirking work easier at any rate.

Daniel smiles at the laughter and continue to eat.

Is this the life for me? I don't even know anything about sailing. I could learn. Are they really pirates? I don't think I'd make a good pirate.

"Honestly Captain if it bothers you that much you could take them on as crew. Any that do not wish to return home of course. What are our plans after returning the girls?"

"Honestly Captain if it bothers you that much you could take them on as crew. Any that do not wish to return home of course. What are our plans after returning the girls?"

Daniel compiles a list of girls and where they are from for the Captain. After that he moves about the ship and attempts to help in any task that doesn't require much skill or movement on his leg.

"I thank you both for your kind words. I will take the silence of the other two as acceptance as well. Truth be told I would not know what to do otherwise."

Daniel will begin the task of finding out who the girls are and where they came from.

"What is your name and where here are you from child? We are going to try to return you to your parents."

That basic variation with all the girls. Diplomacy 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Daniel nods at Ragnar's words.

"That makes sense as well. I had no right to volunteer your ship for such a duty and so kept my peace about it."

Turning to the others, Daniel straightens.

"It seems I have been cast on the tides, and it is Gozreh's will that I accompany you for a time. If you have no objections of course."

[b]We could just drop them off at our next port. Most of them will either have family there or have to work for passage home, but they will be safer than as slaves from a pirate den."[/b

I wish I could do more for them , but I am also on the run.

Seeing the slavers gone and remembering the wounded, Daniel stows his crossbow and begins moving through the ship healing the wounded.

Daniel carefully unloads his crossbow.

"Well that went well."

I hate violence. There is always the chance I might get hurt.

Upon seeing the brand on Tashi's shoulder, Daniel's eyes go dark. He raises the crossbow.

"Gozreh will be judging you scum for this. Jump now or learn to swim with a bolt in your guts."

"I have no wish to kill anyone out of hand. They are evil men but they did surrender to us. Is there no place of justice we could bring them to?"

Daniel keeps his crossbow steady on the men as he says this. His words advocate mercy but his demeanor clearly indicates he'll shoot them if they make a move he doesn't like.

I wonder if they would show the same mercy to me?

4 channels left for today.

Daniel moves over to Jens and heals him for 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8.

"That went better than I expected. You all live very exciting lives."

After seeing to Jens, he loads his crossbow and keeps it trained on the slavers.

"Are any more likely to come after us?"

Daniel moves to check the injured on our crew.

"I doubt the girls are in any state to come up here right now. I should think whomever goes down there next should let Signe know we won before walking into the room as well. What do you normally do with prisoners?"

"This is insane! Is it greed or pride that drives them?!"

I assumed my action was getting on deck at init 8. Are we still waiting for me?

"I'll see you home again Allaria, my word on"

Daniel falls to the ground as the ship is slammed around. He looks around in confusion and rubs the bump that is forming on his head.

"Did we hit something? Everybody stay here, I will check."

He makes his way topside, holding on carefully to anything that is available.

Initiative
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Daniel makes calming gestures with his hands.

"Please ladies, please calm down. Everything is ok, we have all but escaped your captors."

Daniel sits near one of the former captives, his demeanor shifting.

"'ere now lass, what's your name? If we're to be takin' you home we'll need to know where that is. Same for the rest of you."

Diplomacy +10
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

Daniel heads below to help Signe with the rescued captives.

"Signe, do you require any assistance down here? Perhaps I can keep everyone here calm while you help above? I am not much of a sailor."

Daniel moves under some cover in order to dry off and stay out of the way.

"That was almost too easy. Are we sure they won't chase us?"

Daniel will turn to the most frightened/youngest looking human girl.

"Hold out your hand child, and I will share with you the blessings of Gozreh."

Daniel casts Light on her hand.

Spoiler:

Perverts the lot of you.

Daniel will lead the women down the stairs as quickly and quietly as they can manage.

"Follow us now, we are making good on our escape. As you can see these guards are no longer going to stop us."

Daniel waits with the prisoners until he is given the signal the way is clear.

Daniel attempts to calm the girls.

"Shh now, all is ok. We have come to save you, but we must be quite. We will not hurt you. Come with us, quietly now."

Diplomacy +10
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

Daniel shakes is head at Patch. "I can see in the dark, no need to keep the lights on for me. I do worry if we attempt to approach the girl in the dark she will become too scared to follow us. Perhaps we should keep some light source with us just in case."
