I'm glad the book has been so well received! We've already started delving into... more... *sly grin*

So let's be honest here. There are a ton of kick starters out there right now, as there usually are in the spring. So why should this one be at the top of the list?

Let me put it this way: I've been a GM for over 2 decades. I can't even count the number of creatures I've created in that time. Beyond that, I run the Tournament of Souls which focuses on creature creation. Balancing a creature against others of an appropriate CR is one of the most difficult things to do. What if I want more magic and fewer hps? How many spell-like abilities should in use to put them on par with everything else?

I have to admit, working with this system made the balancing issue so much easier. In fact, it wasn't even an issue at all! The system is very intuitive, and as advertised, really does take the guesswork out of creature creation.

So why should this be at the top of the list? Because it's worth it, for any Pathfinder GM. Without question.

One additional note, Stephen Rowe is awesome, even apart from his ever growing accolades in the gaming industry. He's poured his substantial creative genius into the Talented Bestiary, and I know I'm certainly going to take advantage of that. In my humble opinion, you should too.

It's about time that SOMEONE took the reigns and helped find a way to bring one of our favorite pastimes to the next generation of gamers!

Especially given how much good it can do for reading skills, creativity, arithmetic, and in a lot of other areas!

I'm proud to be a part of this, and I'm curious what stories people may have about what table top RPGs have done for them growing up.

I can't wait to see what's coming up next!

No Way to Move PCs into Vampire Crypt using the Map..Entrance is Closed off and entry is from off the Map.

Actually if you look at it, A on the top floor matches up with A on the basement stairs. So there are stairs down, as well as the grate (which the PCs can probably only utilize ay high level).

I'm guessing the missing description gave us more insight as to where the main passage in the basement goes, but I could be wrong. Unfortunately BJ can't tell us until after voting is closed.

Okay...Without Picking Up and Skipping Squares can you Move 30 Feet on the Map and connect the Entrances to the Levels..No You Can't

That is the trouble with Multiple Layers on a Single Map...While it Might be only 10 feet below you can't really know without a description.

Looking at the Map I could almost think that people would automatically assume that they are on the Same level..like I did when I first saw the Map...

It seems to me that the basement layer is clearly labeled as a crypt, as opposed to the larger label of the Desecrated Sanctuary, has a different ground texture, and is separated off from the rest of the map.

Additionally, I've always made the assumption that, barring any other description, there is always 10' between stories of any map. There are several Paizo adventures that don't detail the distance you go up or down stairs, and the assumption, to my knowledge, has always been 10' up or down to the next floor.

Maybe it's just me, but I can easily see that it is two separate layers, as well as the travel between so I don't really understand the confusion.

Greetings Game Masters! (and adventurers who are subject to the unyielding whim of their Masters of the Game... also known as players... :P)

Today I just wanted to talk a bit about the first adventure in our product lineup for this year: Winter's Queen.

Here are a few snippets of what this adventure is all about:

"A thousand years ago, a war raged across the entire continent of Ezalyth, the frozen lands in the southern portion of Relistan. The Frozen Lords having raised an army in an effort to overthrow the vile Diaconu: a ruling family who had reigned over Ezalyth for generations...

This is well known history in the region, but now you have a chance to become part of that history. The war is going well for the Frozen Lords, the leaders of your cause. Dozens of battles have been fought across the land, and the many victories have led the Lords' Army to the base of Mount Megyott, where the final bastion of the Diaconu line lies.

The main force of the army will begin the ascent in a days' time, knowing that many lives will be lost as they push forward to the gates of the ancient castle at its peak. But you, having proven yourselves time and time again in the past, you have been given a special task. Scouts have discovered a secret entrance into the mountain, believed to connect to the dungeons below Caer Valithol. Of all of the skilled operatives in the Lords' Army, you have been selected to steal into that hidden entrance, find your way into the castle, and cut the head off of the snake, so to speak. Your task, is to save as many of your brethren as you can, by putting an end to Musetei Diaconu, Winter's Queen."

This adventure will be the prequel to our upcoming arctic-themed adventure path! More on this, as well as our other products as they are developed so stay tuned!

What makes the Realms of Twilight different from all the rest?

It is a world of history and legend, a post apocalyptic fantasy built upon epic levels of destruction and tales of the ancient past.

It is a world, whose sun has been eclipsed for centuries by the first race, in an attempt to cleanse their world from all that came after them.

Yes, we do explain how everything has managed to survive. Yes, the eclipse of the sun had catastrophic effects on the world. And no, we did not choose to explain everything by simply saying "it's magic!"

The setting covers 5 continents, over 30 cities and nations, each with notes on how they interact with their neighbors. There are dozens of regional deities, each carrying details about their place in their respective pantheons. New spells, a new base class known as the combat alchemist (which is very different from the magic based alchemist found in the advanced player's guide), new races and monsters... There is plenty of new material for players and GMs alike.

But, most importantly, there are unexplored lands as far as the eye can see, dangerous oceans the spit fire upon sailors from their very depths, legends and histories to investigate, ruins to plunder, political intrigue to weave, and much more. There are no boundaries for the possibilities of this new world of shadows and mystery.

So step in to the shadows, and help us make the Realms of Twilight setting everything it can possible be.

Join the project on Kickstarter today, stop in our Facebook page or our Forums and let your voice be heard, and please share the project!

Any questions? Contact us here or in any of the aforementioned places and we'll be sure to answer them!

Daniel, I have a comment. What are people that don't have a Facebook account and don't want one supposed to do to learn about your product? Is Facebook the only place you have information?

Of course not! It's just our primary way of getting the word out and discussing things. We're open to questions and commentary anywhere (so long as we know its there of course).

The Kickstarter project itself has a great deal of information as well. Our website forums have some, though we are still working on getting information posted, and the website itself is undergoing revitalization at the moment.

We've also done interviews with The ESTABLiSHED FACTS and G*M*S Magazine that anyone can listen to. In each we discuss a great deal about the setting and what sets it apart from so many others.

Lastly, if there are specific questions, we can always be contacted directly either through PM here, via email at Daniel@realmsoftwilight.net or any other way people can think of.

If there's a particular aspect of the setting you're looking to find out about, let me know and I'd be more than happy to talk about it!

Scarab Sages President, Silver Crescent Publishing

Some of you may be wondering: "What makes this world different from any other?" Well, stay tuned and we'll answer that very question.

It is a world steeped in legends and history; a world where some nations wield great magical power, while in other regions spells are virtually non-existent. There are cities rife with political intrigue, and ancient ruins begging to be delved into by brave adventurers such as yourselves. Yet many worlds have these things, so how is Relistan different?

Its sun was eclipsed thousands of years ago by the first race, shadow fey known as the Sai-Heth. They were attempting to cleanse their world of the vermin (elves, gnomes, orcs, humans...) that had infested it. The world now exists in perpetual twilight, its moons providing the only illumination aside from starlight.

The setting book provides details on how the world survives in the shadows, and even more details are on the way if the Kickstarter project is successful. So continue to spread the word and help us fund the Realms of Twilight!

For the player edition we want to know which two classes we should make and archetype for that is themed to our dark world. The Game Master edition received 2 creatures, for which we seek a preferred terrain for each of them.

We welcome your thoughts and questions, so let us know what you think!

Good gaming to all, and may your dice be forever kind.

Only 11 days left to back this amazing, expanded edition of the Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting!

Scarab Sages President, Silver Crescent Publishing

And if you want to hear about our exclusive Kickstarter only adventure that will
allow our backers to help shape the history and upcoming adventure path is built on you have but to ask. :D

Scarab Sages President, Silver Crescent Publishing

Hey everyone!

Some of you have already seen some of the products by Silver Crescent Publishing here in Paizo's store. Well, now we're cooking up something new! With the launch of our Kickstarter entitled Rebuilding the Realms of Twilight we are seeking to release an expanded and professionally edited campaign setting hardcover book.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Realms of Twilight setting, it is why we have come to affectionately call a post apocalyptic fantasy campaign setting of shadow and mystery. Here's a little background on the world:

The sun has been eclipsed for thousands of years, the work of an ancient race in their attempt to purge the world of the vermin that have polluted and destroyed their world. Much of the world is dominated by darkness and savagery, but amidst the chaos, bastions of civilization rise.

The world consists of give continents and a plethora of nations. We believe that role playing is all about the story, supported by the mechanics. As such we've included more than a half dozen legends about the ancient past, in order to inspire GMs to tie their campaigns to the worlds intricate history. But never fear, there is plenty of crunch in there as well, including new character options, player races and even a new base class that uses mundane components to produce quasi magical effects such as healing, distractions or damaging explosions.

For the new book, we've got some great artwork already completed by both our cover and interior artist Jocelyn Sarvida and out cartographer Jen Page The archmage himself, Ed Greenwood will also be contributing a new legend to the expanded book. But beyond completely new and updated high definition artwork and legends, we'll be adding an estimated 50 pages of content! Examples of this would be an additional player race, settlement statistics blocks and a few additional details about many of the worlds amazing locations.

So check out the Kickstarter and let us know what you think! We're always anxious to talk about our world so if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact is either here or on our Facebook page!

We look forward to seeing you all join us on our adventure to rebuild the Realms of Twilight!

What about shields?

Personally I would say no, stick to weapons for this particular variation. The eidolon would either be sought out for offense or defense when summoned. Allowing both a sword and a shield would twist that and make them not as effective at either one I would think.

Scarab Sages President, Silver Crescent Publishing

From my perspective, the closest I would honestly come to this would be a concept similar to that presented in the Skills & Powers book by TSR (all Hail TSR! lol) where you had a standard set of abailities, eachw ith a point value. You could "cashe them in" for those points to spend on alternate abilities.

However, Paizo seems to be headed this direction already with the alternate racial abilities and archetypes. While not quite as versatile, it does provide for some variation in the races and class construction.

Like others have said, from a Game Master perspective it can be very difficult to balance a Pathfinder class, and in my humble opinion, going to a straight point system, while possible, would be a rather difficult endeavor to pursue if you wanted to maintain the game balance, especially when more and more achretypes and variant racial abilities are surfacing from Paizo as well as third party publishers.

Scarab Sages President, Silver Crescent Publishing

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Here's a possibility which kind of stems off of Skylark's concept.

Have one of the dead nobles appear to the PCs. A soft blue light wakens one of them and the figure makes no aggressive actions and in fact seems to be in great pain (obviously the vampiric baron may have conducted some manner of ritual or used a particular item meant to prevent their sould from returning but this particular one was stronger than most, yet his time is limited).

If the PCs daudle or take too long to gather you can have him flicker a bit and seem to weaken. The apparition won't know a great deal about the situation, but depending on how they were slain he may be able to identify the troll attacker by a vague description at least. You could set a limit on questions say, 5. Limit the apparitions knowledge of the situation to the things you want them to know and reduce the number of available questions depending on how long it takes the PCs to awaken and gather.

At the end have the apparition shriek in pain and appear to be torn apart (be it in the manner that he was killed or simply a violent dissapation of the form).

That would set a kind of creepy tone while giving them a little bit of a lead I would think.

Scarab Sages President, Silver Crescent Publishing

I like the concept. It allows the summoner to take a more directly combative role. I might also suggest you take a look at the Soulknife class in Psionics Unleashed by Dreamscarred Press for other possible ideas regarding weapon based evolution possibilities.

You may also want to mention in the evolution that allows you to split the weapon, that it can at that point be molded into a double weapon instead, because I'm sure someone will come up with the idea of saying they'll make a 2-bladed sword as a 1-H weapon because they'll only use a single end.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

No problem at all.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

Covent,

I'll try to answer your questions as best as I can, though any of the Piazo staff could likely give you a better answer.

1.) Pretty much... yes

2.) You actually don't have to have that asterisk. But you do have to post the compatibility license in the book as well as some other verbage to make sure you are abiding by the terms of the license. You can use the asterisk to show the reader what books to reference (i.e. Ultimate Magic, Core Rulebook, etc.) but as far as the legalese, it isn't required as that material is open content.

3.) Same as above.

4.) You may want to rename them. Term them as subraces, much like Gray Elves, Sylven Elves, etc. That is most likely the easiest way around that.

5.) You can reference the Bestiary and even post the exact stat blocks from it in accordance with the Compatibility License. Just don't reference page numbers.

6.) The purpose of this is to prevent third party publishers from masquerading as Paizo books. It isn't difficult to make the page borders, cover, etc. look significantly different from an official Pathfinder book by Paizo. And the interior tables, etc. can be formatted the same to prevent confusion among readers. Just don't use the same backgrounds and such.

7.) If you do become a publishing company, there is a great deal of legal things that must be done. Tax documents for federal and state governments, etc. There are advantages and disadvantages to doing this so it really is up to you. You can also do it all without becoming a company, but you'll at least want to make sure you get copyrights and such done for any product you publish.

8.) Consulting a lawyer can be much easier, but ultimately more expensive. The best thing to do is contact your state department of commerce or someone who has done it before to at least point you in the right direction should you choose to become your own company.

9.) If you are going to do print copies, be prepared to invest a good amount of capital into it. If you are going for solely digital products that is one thing you won't have to worry about. I would look into marketing possibilities and get in touch with some other third party publishers. You may be surprised how much help we are willing to provide.

10.) Make sure you understand the costs of doing it before you jump in. If you aren't looking to make profit, then it may not matter. Many of us are in the business because we love the game and we enjoy creating worlds and adventures for others to experience. It can be very easy to be overwhelmed by all of the things you may need to think about or expenses you didn't think of initially.

11.) There tends to be a larger profit margin in digital products for the simple reason that you don't have to pay for printing. If you price your products appropriately, the quality is good enough, and you do a good job of spreading the word about it, then you shouldn't have too much of a problem. You can wait to decide if you want to invest in print products until much later.

12.) I can't speak for other third party publishers, but we produce both print and PDF versions of our products. We price the print versions competitively, and the PDF versions are generally around half of the cost. For you, you simply have to look at similar products in the market and make sure you are competitive.

13.) It really depends on the style, quality, and how well known the artist is. If you find an artist you like, and trust, stick with them and send all of the extra work you can their way if they want it.

14.) For layouts we use Adobe InDesign. We do our editing manually so I don't have any suggestions for a tool to do so other than friends and family.

I hope I answered everything acceptably. Feel free to contact me with any other questions you may have about what you are trying to do. I'm sure in not too long a number of others will correct or add to the information I've put here so you'll have no shortage of help and knowledge to pull from.

Just in case anyone hasn't noticed, the print/PDF bundle is up and posted for those who are interested.

Thanks for your interest. I look forward to hearing what everyone thinks about the setting. And as always, if there are any questions don't hesitate to send me a message or post them.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

Yes it has, but we had to make arrangements with a distributor to make it more widely available.

Let me know if you guys have any questions about the setting.

I'm sorry that I don't have any more information on the release via our distributor. I will see if there is anything I can find out over the next few days.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

This version does not. They are meant to be printed out and filled out by hand. We are working on form fillable sheets as a future project, but there is not official release date on that version of character sheets.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

For those who may not have noticed, the PDF of all 27 character sheets was released at the end of February! You can find them here.

For those who purchase them, please feel free to post reviews on them or questions about them on the product discussion page.

Lord Worcestershire of Perrins wrote:
So here is another question, If you use a fighting fan to feint in combat and did not have proficiency with it would you impose the normal penalty to attack to your bluff roll?

Think of it outside of the straight mechanics. If you are using a weapon you aren't familiar with, it doesn't matter that the way that weapon is generally used would grant a bonus to feint, disarm or any other combat maneuver. You don't know how to use the weapon to that effect. As such I would rule that unless you are proficient, you gain no bonuses from using a particular weapon to perform a combat maneuver.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

I will be sure to do that as soon as it gets done.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

I'm glad you think so. Feel free to post a review of the sample, and the full book if you decide to get it. If you prefer print you can find it here.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

Thank you for the update. It is very much appreciated.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

They are designed to be printed and filled out by hand. We considered doing form fillable character sheets, and still might, but with the other products we are working on the idea was put on a back burner for the moment.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

I use this program alot and own both a Mac and a PC so I'll be glad when the Mac version comes out. What's the latest ETA on it anyway? The last I heard was sometime in March I think.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

All character sheets are done and approved! We're only waiting on the final revision of the cover art and it'll be up and available.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

Alright, the sample has been changed. It now includes all of Chapter 1 (The introduction to the world), one of the new player races, a new monster, and an additional legend of the ancient world to give you a taste of one of the major events that shaped the world of Relistan. Take a look and enjoy.

Reviews are, of course, always welcome.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

I've also heard the D20 Pro can be very useful software for technically inclined GMs, but I haven't had a lot of experience with it myself as of yet other than converting map files to D20 Pro format.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

Alright. I'm sure a bit more fluff can be added to the sample. Anyone have any other requests?

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

1) If you're looking for a setting to get a good base of information to use in order to create your own aventures and campaigns I would suggest looking at one of the Pathfinder Campaign Setting books like the Inner Sea or (stand by for a bit of a plug) the Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting.

If you want a pre-made adventure to help get your feet wet and see what both you and your players like any of the Pathfinder Adventure Paths are good for that. They are very well written and have solid encounters fo you to play around with and experience. It may help you figure out what you and your players like and inspire some additional creativity of your own.

2) With maps it depends on the group and the application. If your group is more story based they will tend to enjoy the description and using imagination to see combat rather than needing a grid work map. However some of the tactical rules like flanking, movement and relative position can be a bit tougher to keep track of. If you are creating an adventure, to me maps are a must. It makes it so you have some idea what lies around the next corner, where traps and encounters are, and similar things, even if the players never se the map.

3) As far as storytelling, practice. Try writing some short stories that only you see. Re-read them a few days after you write them and see if you can see the image you were trying to create. If something seems like it doesn't work, you can change it. If you have the prep time you can ever pre-write area descriptions before the game and read it to your players instead of coming up with it on the spot.

Storytelling isn't just a description, it is a performance. Make sure to modulate your voice, or use multiple voices if you are representing various NPCs speaking. Use props, or other tools to help bring your players into the scene (without beating them with a wooden sword or anything...)

I don't know if any of this helped at all, but I hope so. Good luck with your new group.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

Just wanted to take a minute to pose a question: What do you as fans, players and game masters want to see in a campaign setting preview?

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

Thank you much for the review and encouragement End. If you think Claws of Pelazin was a big step up, wait until you see Scourge of the Sands, the 7-10 adventure we are currently working on...

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

Since we have all been invited to plug away... Silver Crescent Publishing has an adventure based at the edge of a jungle in the Realms of Twilight setting. The adventure is entitled Claws of Pelazin.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing

I would ask for the same thing from those who have purchased Silver Crescent products. Reviews are very useful not only for sales purposes but to help publishers determine the particular parts of their material that may need improvement. Things that may not have been caught during playtesting.

If anyone who has purchased any Silver Crescent products and doesn't want to write a full review to post, feel free to send me PMs with likes and dislikes or suggestions on what sort of follow up products you may like to see.

I look forward to any feedback we get.

I would also like to echo Dale's idea. If anyone is interested in reviewing Silver Crescent products feel free to PM me about it.

Scarab Sages Silver Crescent Publishing
