It has shipped! It should be arriving any day now. It likely just got a bit delayed in the mail.

Okay, I'll take your word on it for now but 12 days is a bit of a delay. Hopefully it shows up soon. Thanks for the update at least...

Just wanted to check on the status of one item here. My order history says:

Pathfinder Chronicles: Campaign Setting (OGL) Hardcover Print Edition
Shipped July 31, 2008

...and I;m seeing plenty of posts from people saying tht they got theirs, but mine's not here yet. Any way to check shipping receipts or whatnot and make sure it really did ship?

Thanks!

DudeMonkey,
I do have a suggestion for where you can get your Paizo products. There is a great hobby store on 33rd street between Madison and 5th. It is called the Complete Strategist. They have a great selection of products. Hope this helps.

Not 100% certain, but yeah i do believe that the Strategist carries their stuff. Frankly I'd be amazed if they didn't, they carry EVERYTHING.

I will admit now that I've only paged through a little bit of the alpha game book so far. I'm at work, and just dl'd it, and haven't had a lot of time to peruse, so forgive my ignorant opinions, but I'm not sure I like this version of the skill system at all, to be honest. Am I right in thinking that there's no skill ranks at all? That would seem to imply that, for example, as long as they are roughly equally dexterous, there's no such thing as one carpenter who is better than another carpenter. Or musician, or artist, or blacksmith, or whatever. This almost seems like call back to the days of non-weapon proficiencies...

I've just recently started running a D&D game, for the first time in well over a decade (running RotRL, natch), largely for the purpose of teaching my best friend's 12 year old child to play, as she has been dying to try the game since she was about 9m so suffice it to say, EGG's influence will continue to be felt for generations to come.

My players this weekend will all be playing with black dice.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So my group and I have finally gotten around to running Burnt Offerings (RotRL 1), and we're still quite close to the beginning.

So, the players rescue Aldern Foxglove quite handily, and afterwards he bows and kisses the hand of a lovely young lady in the party, and heaps largely undeserved praise upon her, in what I as the GM at least thought was a mildly creepy manner.

The thing is, the girl who was the recipient of the flattery not only basks in the creept flattery, she likes it so much that she shows up at the Rusty Dragon that night, before even the boar hunt (which we'll be getting to this Saturday), and has her way with him, so to speak...

SO, I'm just wondering how or if this might affect happenings in The Skinsaw Murders? I mean he's already going to be obsessed with her, but I'm trying to decide if he might get even more personal then he already is supposed to be. For example, there's actually another NPC that she's set up as a long time friend and occasional love interest, and my first thought was that he'd logically be one of the Skinsaw Man's first victims...

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on how the weird acceleration of the relationship might affect things, game-wise...

Sorry if this has come up before, but Amazon lists the map folio (and the guide to Korvosa, at least) as being currently available, shipping in 4-6 weeks.

I'm assuming this is a mistake on someones part, and I didn't miss something?

Paul Richmond wrote:
There should be cheaper places in town to live than an inn, however...

Indeed, which is why I put a third Inn in town, a waterfront tavern of somewhat questionable repute, called the Drow's Quarrel (are Drow OGL? I honestly don't know. I hope so...) that caters to sailors, and rents out a bit of floor space in the back for cheap. Not the best of places, and not terribly clean, but affordable, presuming you can hold onto your purse during the night.

For some reason or other I see, in no particular order:
Nathan Fillion as Orik Vancaskerkin
Frances Fisher as Mayor Deverin
Hugh Grant as Aldern Foxglove
Chow Yun Fat as Tsuto Kaijutsu (I just like Chow Yun Fat, honestly)

Can't think of anyone else at the moment.
Who should do Nualia, and Erlyium's voice?

I didn't see the Easter Island connection until you pointed it out, honestly, but it does totally make sense.

Plus, you know, Felt Giants, not so tough.

Wayne rocks the cover as always, but... is it just me or does the stone giant all the way to the left look like a Muppet? I'm thinking either Sam the Eagle or the Muppet News Flash guy...

I know that the big write-up on Desna is coming in PF 2,but I was wondering if we could have a wee preview/expansion of the Desna myth touched on in issue 1? (i.e., fall, blind girl, butterfly story). I'm putting together some speeches for the Festival, and I'd like to be able to give out the whole parable without being contradicted a month later :)

Specifically, I was wondering what caused Desna to fall?

Don't know about the other Tomes, but i recall one of the Paizites in another thread saying that the Advanced Bestiary would be utilized in PF2.

If you were playing in one of my campaigns, you would declare, upon reaching a level, what your character's goals are for the next level.

When your character earns enough experience points to level again, if she levels in (a) one of her current classes, (b) her racially favored class, or (c) the class you declared was her goal, she'll gain power the next time she rests (the same as would allow a wizard to regain spells). If you've decided that your character going to shift to something else, she'll need to spend some time (perhaps a day) in town with a mentor (fees variable; prestige class teachers may be tougher to find than fighters).

This sounds like a not unreasonable way to do things, the racially-favored class bit makes sense. I think I may adopt this, though I do think that I'm going to make prestige classes a bit more difficult, probably requiring a short side-quest sort of thing, if we ever get that far...

Hardcorhobbs wrote:
Perhaps Paizo is planning further boggards? (Which would be awesome.)

The description given of them does indicate that there are boggards in other locations, with different appearances. It wouldn't be out of the question for them to have different enough stats and habits to justify separate listings. I hope so, I like them, too. I just like swamps, actually, and I'm rather excited by the implication that at least a part of PF2 will take place in or near a swamp.

I've been wondering about this myself. It's been a long time since I ran a campaign (this will be my first one since 2nd edition) and I've been trying to decide how to handle this. I'd ideally like to allow leveling in a class that the player already has a level in instantaneously, but require at least some training to multi-class in a new class for the first time, just because it makes sense to me that way. I'm just afraid that if I do that I'm going to quash the player's creativity with their character concepts somewhat by making them not want to multi-class at all...

Thanks, folks.

Sorry, quick correction, they were noted as having SHIPPED on the 17th and 20th, not ordered, and not yet arrived.

I suppose chiming in here at this point with "this isn't Earth, remember?" would not be terribly productive? Somebody grok the idea of "Fantasy"?

Any hints on some other good source material that stands a good chance to get used in future issues of PF? I'm looking to expand my repertoire of things to kill players with...

Sorry to threadjack, but I've actually been wondering about the references to the "theurge" if PF1. Do they mean the "Mystic Theurge" PrC from the DMG, or am i missing something?

I want to run this campaign for my group, but they all would rather start out at a level higher than 1st, preferably in the 4th-5th range.

That would be an AWFUL lot of goblins...

Actually the majority of the gobbos in adventure are 1st level whatevers. Easiest thing to do i suppose would be to add a few character levels to them?

NSpicer wrote:
You might be better served to steer your paladin-wannabe towards Iomedae.

That had been the original plan, and yes it made the most sense to em as well on a doctrinal basis. But the player and I were discussing the various gods, and he pretty much fell in love with the idea of a paladin of Sarenrae, even if it renders the order in question mildly heretical in nature.

That priesthood was designed by Erik and he mentioned the goddess of valor specifically has the crusader-type of paladins and priests opposing the darkness and depravity of Cheliax. I could see Sarenrae's followers having an interest in supporting or joining Iomedae's crusaders, of course. Just, in general, I think Iomedae is being set up as the Heironeous/Tyr/Torm derivative for the Pathfinder world.

NSpicer wrote:
...two approaches within Sarenrae's clergy. There's the diplomats who patiently try to win over evil and redeem its followers (e.g., redemption is part of Sarenrae's portfolio). And then there's the crusaders who dispense with the talking and focus primarily on fighting evil directly in order to end its existence, satisfying themselves that some evil just isn't redeemable

Thanks for the pointer, I must have missed that somewhere along the way. I think a sort of mix of the two views is pretty much what he has in mind, i.e. evil will be redeemed by seeing Sarenrae's light one way or the other, if he can't get them to see it in life, then they'll see it in death. I always saw paladins as fairly grim overall, so it makes sense to me.

I'll look for the blog post on Kyra, thanks!

I thought the multi-section formatting was a little weird at first, but I actually find it comes in handy. I have a rather wide monitor, and this way I can keep two sections open side to side, have them still readable, and refer back and forth.

One or two wee tiny typos or formatting errors, but so far (at about 1/3 of the way through the whole thing) I'm drooling to run it.

You've pretty much crystallized my impression so far, though admittedly I'm just reading the pdf, and I'm only about 1/3 of the way through it. Just enough background and side info to suggest connections and make me think up about 150 NPC's I want to populate the town with, along with the seemingly 1000's of them detailed in the book.

Bravo, folks!

Wooooot!

*Impatiently watches the download bar creeping along...*

The parrot said "after GenCon," and here it is the next day, and everything's on its way. All is forgiven ;)

Things are still pretty much up in the air, but it will probably settle down to:

1. Paladin of Sarenrae, Chelaxian in background, of a distinctly crusader-like cast...
2. Cleric of Sarenrae, Chelaxian, of a much less crusader like cast (yay internal conflicts!)
3. CN Halfling Rogue, who is pretty much just passing through the area and gets sucked into things much against her will.
4. N human Wizard, Enchanter, of mixed parentage.

I may or may not throw in an NPC with the group, just to round things out, help out the noobs (my friend's 12 yo daughter is playing the wizard, her first RPG experience, which should be fun), either a Bard or a Ranger, I'm not sure yet.

I'd just like to point out that this thread has the most gloriously acronym-filled title ever.

"Any ETA on the RotRL pdf?"

Outstanding :)

But this is just the initial report.

I have a player who wants to play a paladin of Sarenrae, of the distinctly crusader-like mentality. We started to work on the character's background and personality, and have both gotten rather excited about it, but I was wondering if anyone cared to give some input on the nature of the knightly order in question. The basic idea is that in the nation of Cheliax, ever since the death of their god has led to the present trend of demonic pacts as a path to power, a small underground priesthood of Sarenrae has arisen.

In reaction to Chelaxian society falling into darkness and depravity, an order of knighthood has arisen devoted to Sarenrae, whose goal is "to bring her light into the darkest of places," by force if necessary.

I'll be honest, I don't have much experience running paladins, as most of my players have historically been more of a mind to assume a certain ethical flexibility, to say the least. I want to set up a more thorough background for this Order, and would like to solicit some ideas from you good folks.

If nothing else, it will take people's minds off of waiting for the pdf to show up in our email boxes...

Just got the email resolving this. Just wanted to say that you guys rock, thanks!

Does anybody else think it's hysterical that the Wizards site is still down, as far as I can tell?

even though I'm a subscriber, I still plan on picking up a copy at GenCon tomorrow if they have any left (prays fervently) so I can have the special cover too.

Wait, they're actually selling copies there? Spot me for one? I'm good for it... :)

I know this is terribly redundant, given that I just sent an email to this regard, and I'm sorry to be a noodge when things are crazy, but I just received my order (733273), and got the wrong product. I ordered (among other things, which are fine) the just-recently-back-into-stock GameMastery Combat Pad. Instead of the pad, I got the Extra Magnet Pack for it. Cool, but not terribly useful without the pad itself. Any chance of getting a resend soonest?

I know things are nuts right now, sorry to be a pain in the tuchas...

Just because I like resurrecting old threads, and I thought people might be interested...

According to the Wizards forums, Wizards has just (perhaps inadvertently) announced 4th Edition.

I personally have no interest in learning a whole new set of rules, in all honesty. Any idea yet if you folks are staying 3.5 or plan on going 4, now that its apparently a go?

Just now got:

<<Dear Dances With Worgs

Thank you for your continuing support of Pathfinder!

In the next week or so, we're expecting to ship the next volume of your subscription.

...

The order contains the following items:

1 x Pathfinder: Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide (OGL) @ 0.00 = $0.00
1 x Pathfinder #1—Rise of the Runelords Chapter 1: "Burnt Offerings" (OGL) @ 13.99 = $13.99
>>

I'm going to go downstairs and stare at my mailbox until it arrives.

Just picked that up on the news-stand today, if that's any help, so presumably that at least should show up soon.

In the mean time... *stares at his email box, tapping his claws*

"My Subscriptions" lists the present issue of Pathfinder as #2. Does that mean that it ships today, or the pdf's will be released today?

I am likely overeager. Gimme.

It will apparently be necessary to have at least something more than the core books, as the AP uses the full SRD, which actually contains more than is in the core books. For example, a few gods discussed in the player's guide list domains which are listed in the SRD, but not given in the PH (i.e., Community, Glory, Charm, Liberation, etc.). So my first instinct would be to have them all grab copies of the SRD, at least.

Ernest Mueller wrote:

Is the intent that all the demihumans also worship the list of gods in the list? Or are there separate "demihuman pantheons"? If so, when might we get a look at them?

I can't recall where exactly, but I have a vague recollection of seeing somewhere that the intent was to keep the pantheon small and world-related rather than race-related, have everyone worship the same gods, but maybe put their own spin on them (i.e. the Dwarven depiction of Desna may be shorter and dressed differently, but its still Desna).

Then again, I may be completely wrong...

Okay, dumb question number two, now that I'm actually reading the book (which is beautiful so far, btw): IS there anyplace other than the SRD's that the priest domains used here which are not listed in the PH (Nobility and Community, for example) can be found, or should I just go ahead and point my players to the SRD's?

Okay, sorry if this is dumb, but... am I missing something? Is the guide already available and I'm not seeing it yet?

Edit: Nevermind, no announcement that I saw, but I found it,here!

Vic Wertz wrote:

We got two copies today!

Oooooh. I tell you, even those of you who saw it at Origins are going to be impressed. And when it hits your mailbox, all of your other mail is totally going to be jealous.

GIMME! *glares menacingly*

I just want to start getting the players' characters together now, I have novice players involved in this game. Is that so much to ask???

Koldoon wrote:
D&D is NOT a game of min-maxing, though certainly it is easy to do with the system. It's a game of storytelling and role-playing. ...

Exactly the point. The choices made in creating these characters clear was - and absolutely should have been - one of personal choice and role playing value, rather than maximizing power. No argument that a dumb rogue is an unusual choice, and I can't fault you for questioning that, but the other choices clearly seem to have been made to illustrate something central to the character itself, or to their society (keep in mind we don't know much about their respective cultures yet, we presumably will learn more once the player's guide comes out...)

Considering they're built using the standard set of stats rules, and not rolled out, they don't seem that bad to me. I mean none of them are going to take on Acerak any time soon, but they're first level.

Well. SOMEBODY had a wee bit too much time on their hands, didn't they? And here I thought you'd all be so busy putting our lovely new AP together...

If it helps, I *have* read it, and am still quite happy with it. SO much so that now I'm torn between using the modules and using the Pathfinder AP's. Decisions, decisions. There's a lot jammed into just a few pages, but not so much as to make the GM feel either overwhelmed or obligated to follow the module as written step by step. It suggests where it should, and leads you by the hand where it should. Sweet. Oh and yes, the Tatzylwyrm is very very cool.

Can't say for sure where I saw this, but I vaguely recall it being said that Falcon's Hollow was on the other side of the same continent.

I always kind of liked the half races from a purely RP'ing standpoint, admittedly. I just always wondered why orcs and elves were it. Why not half dwarves (Dark Sun anyone?), or Quarterlings?

Yes, I will admit, this post was made mostly so I could say "quarterlings," I'm sorry.
