I have been running a Council of Thieves game, which I am having to abandon, here on the boards and was wondering if one of you awesome DM's here would take it over. The group has had an excellent dynamic so far and all of them are very committed. We lost a PC, but was quickly replaced. We are at the point in the story where the Hellknights are about to transport Arael to Citadel Rivad. Thanks in advance for taking this awesome group into consideration. The OOC and Game Thread are linked in my profile above.
Sorry to be doing this, but I just don’t have the time to GM games anymore. I feel bad making you guys hang on so long while I tried to make this work, but I don’t see it getting any better any time soon. I don’t think I can provide the quality of game you guys deserve and maybe shouldn't have started with an AP. I can put up a post seeing if I can find a replacement GM if that is what you want.

"The group I assembled at the tavern will perform the rescue while the others will draw the Hellknights on horseback away. As for the panther, I have no experience disguising a cat, so I am open to suggestions." Janiven gives a smirk. "Our caltrops are extra large, horse sized caltrops Del." She says with a laugh. Amaya clears her throat. "May I suggests we wear hooded cloaks or helmets and maybe use some kind of mark, maybe a red handkerchief tied around our arms." Ermolos speaks in his deep voice. "What about the Knights of Westcrown?" He suggests with a grin. Janiven thinks about it for a second. "Maybe something a little less antagonistic. Perhaps the Children of Westcrown?"
Janiven looks up at Derek and Eklektos. ”The areas are close enough to not make much of a difference. I agree with Derek that the bridge should be spared.” She replies. ”Now to the actual plan, the Hellknights are extremely arrogant and with that comes the benefit of not facing an army. A total of ten armigers, four on horseback the rest on the carriage, and their Signifier Shanwen will be accompanying the carriage. Shanwen is a cleric and a gifted leader, so we must be careful. So far we have developed a seemingly impregnable plan. We will have two groups; one will set up at the ambush site hidden on the sides of the road, the other will be roughly one hundred paces further down the road. The secondary group will expose itself in the road ahead of the carriage drawing the Hellknights on horseback away and leading them into a field of caltrops laid in the road. Surely the carriage driver will see them take chase and turn around, heading back to Westcrown. That is when the first group strikes, attacking the carriage and freeing Arael.” ”Any questions?” Janiven looks up at the group. ”We will need to discuss a form of costume to hide our identities and it was mentioned this morning that our actions may warrant an iconic name for us. Any suggestions, let’s hear’um.”
Janiven looks back up from her parchments. ”Everyone please gather round, time is of the essence.” As the final few people settle around the table, Janiven stands at the head and looks at each of you. ”We have received word that Arael has been awarded to the Hellknights. They are planning to transport him from the Westcrown jail to Citadel Rivad later today. “ Janiven then pushes the two maps toward the center of the table. ”We have two choices for the rescue attempt. One is where the road crosses the river Athua. The other is a point in the road where trees grow more abundant and several large rocks are available to hide behind.” I was going to make one big post, but didn't want to wait any longer. Will have more up later.
You all are roused from your slumber by the sound of talking mixed with the bustling of many people. As you emerge from your respective rooms, Janiven turns from the large table situated in the center of the common room. ”I’m glad you are all up. I have gathered the group here to let everyone know the situation and what we are going to have to do. Please take a seat at the table, we need to get started.” Janiven then turns and heads back to the table, arranging some parchment which appears to be maps. This is all I can do for the moment. Should have more posted later this evening.
OK everyone, I'm going to be honest with you. I know my posting has been way less than frequent and that discourages everybody in the PbP world, but I am not going to let this die. I will admit that I may have bit off more than I can chew running an AP as my first DM venture in PbP form. With that said, I am working on my next post and am going to pick up the pace. I'm not going to be one of those that just disappears on you. I will never get better at DMing PbP if I never try :) I also wanted to say thanks for sticking around and I enjoy the RP elements going on between your characters.
Ermolos looks at Amaya and begins to answer for both of them. ”Both of us have lived here almost our entire lives. We just recently joined the rebellion, but have known Janiven for some time. Neither of us have been on any real missions, we mostly provide goods and services for the ones who are more skilled, like you. I think we are goin to head ta bed now. See you in the morning for the mission briefing. Goodnight.” At that, Ermolos and Amaya head off to their respective rooms.
Janiven turns back toward Del and Arodio, leaving a conversation with one of the other members. ”Sorry, the washrooms are down the hallway all the way in the back.” She points down a hallway across the room. After returning from the washroom, Janiven motions to all of you to come over. ”These are a few of the citizens that share your passion for this once great city. Janiven places her hand on the shoulder a strikingly beautiful Tian woman. ”This is Amaya. She is a glassblower by trade.” The woman looks over each of you and bows her head. ”It is nice to meet you all.” She says in a quiet voice. Janiven then motions to a large man, who walks over with a slight limp. ”This is Ermolos. He is a master blacksmith and a fairly good fighter.” Janiven smiles with a wink to Ermolos. The large man extends his hand, shaking each of yours sternly. ”It’s me pleasure.” Janiven smiles ”There are more of us, but they are either at home with their families or at jobs. Feel free to eat, sleep or whatever you need. We will be meeting in the morning concerning an important mission.” Janiven then leaves you and heads to one of the back rooms presumably going to sleep.
Janiven moves to the front of the group and looks at Del. “Don’t worry we have this exit covered.” When she finishes her sentence, Janiven climbs the ladder and knocks on the grate. After a minute a nervous looking man with a lantern unlocks and opens the grate. “Come quickly.” He says, motioning to you all with his hand. When you exit the sewer you realize you are in an alley behind an abandoned shrine to Aroden. The man opens a door, which appears to be boarded up and turns around. “Welcome to the safehouse. Make yourselves at home.” As you enter the shrine you see a few people working and discussing things unknown to you. Janiven grabs the group’s attention. ”Thank you for staying with me. You can wash up, eat and rest here. Introductions to the other members can wait till you are ready.” You gain 350xp a piece for completing the sewer run.
"We are close." Janiven announces as Del heads toward the small room. The room is apparently storage for tools to work on miscellaneous problems, but it does appear that something was making this it's home. While searching you spot a small chest under some rubble. Searching through the trash and oddities, you come across 15 gold pieces and a silver necklace that is worth about 10 gold. You can now hear faint noises down the tunnel behind you. The battles must have slowed you down enough so that the Hellknights are gaining.
Spoiler:
Croc Grapple (Death Roll) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 Arodio and Del rush to Eklektos side, Del attempts to pry the crocodile’s jaws from Eklektos’ arm, but slips off before he can get a grip. Derek draws his dagger and sings, inspiring courage in his allies.
The crocodile tucks it's legs and spins with enough force to bring Eklektos to the ground ripping his flesh. Semenya, trying to aim through all of her companions, slips just enough to put her shot into the tunnel roof above the crocodile. Eklektos is now prone and takes 3 more damage. The croc has taken 10 points total.
Eklektos Apofysi wrote: As a note, there's also a summoned Giant Centipede in a position to attack the Croc. Or does that happen when my next Initiative count comes around? Probably end up in A1 or A2, whichever way it goes. Actually the summon spell fizzles on your turn this round, because your concentration check did not pass. Sorry if I am making this confusing. First round, your daylight spell went off, the croc came out and bit you, then Theron charged and bit it. Second round starts full initiative with everyone aware.
Spoiler:
Semenya 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Del 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 Arodio 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 Initiative:
As the crocodile attached to Eklektos' arm, his daylight spell triggered and now the tunnel is lit up like you were outdoors at high noon. Everyone is aware of what is happening now. I believe it is to you Arodio.
Yes, that's what it is for. DC 14 Spoiler:
Young Croc
Bite 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 Grab CMB 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 Initiative: Croc 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 Eklektos 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 Theron will go on your turn from now on Initiative:
Eklektos Spoiler: Watching the sewage intently, all of a sudden a young crocodile lunges at you from the channel, knocking your spear back with it's thrashing and latches onto your arm with it's bite. Seeing this, Theron charges the croc, biting it just above it's arm.
You take 4 damage and are grappled. Will have a map up for you soon.
Semenya: Spoiler:
You do see an opening in the wall behind the shield. From what you can tell, the small room beyond is about 10'x10' square and in the corner sits a few tools, such as shovels and picks. I totally forgot about the map revision you mentioned in the beginning Semenya. From now on I'm going to modify the maps to be right. I am working on a post for Eklektos and should have it up a little later. Go ahead and roll for the perception check if you wants guys.
