It would have to be in a way that still allows for damage, otherwise sundering armor wouldn't work. I personally like the idea of making outer space combat really intense by having environmental protection fail in space if you get shot. Makes space as spooky as it should be. However I realize that doesn't answer the question, so how about environmental protection is a thin layer inside most armors that is repaired with nanobots? They don't repair the armor itself though, because any use of them should be saved for critical emergencies.
Hey I'm the afore mentioned ball of death. The Psion plays this same type of character in every game we've ever played. He always leaves everyone to die. To his credit though, it was actually me that suggested grease, then explained how it would stop him from charging. He just completely disregarded the advice. Also he did finally come back and heal the cryptic after the whole table was visibly upset, but was a reeeeeeal dick about it. Pointing at the half giant's blood and exclaiming "hey look, grease." to the cryptic after the battle. If it were just his character, fine, but it's not. He's just playing himself in real life.

Sorry, they've been calling me in to work a lot recently and I'm not able to read as fast as you guys are posting. Haha. I'll update my info in full in a moment here. Printer is on the frits so it's back to oldschool binder paper for me. I'm really liking these magical items, and am really tempted to get one, but I think per my character's story, he'd have a lot of wealth and not really anything he holds important to himself. Other than his own face, of course. I'll be going with 3rd lv wealth.

A bit of story for my character to tie in other characters: Fray was born into a rather wealthy family. As he grew, he became obsessed with himself, despite how others viewed him. He took great care of himself, but soon he wanted for more. He began researching ways to enhance himself; to become even more beautiful. He stumbled upon the art of alchemy and became instantly entranced. He read of gained physical prowess, enhanced powers of persuasion, and even a few instances of slowing or even stopping the aging process. He found a tutor and began training immediately.

My character is going to be a bit of a narcissist. He became an alchemist to further enhance himself in an attempt to gain power and become "perfect". The man's in love with himself. I really like the idea of him flipping out when his "perfect features" are replaced with kobold face or something. Should be fun.
I take this as more of something you could do so your party doesn't have to waste their time waiting for the rogue to steal something. Or so your full plate fighter who insists on following you with a -10 stealth, doesn't completely blow your cover. Or if there's that character in every party that is against stealing, then they don't have to be a part of it. Quick rolls, it's done, no one bickering at the table.

My DM actually suggested this too. Not a bad idea.
Dodge is always an attractive option. I heard somewhere that samurai are really good at saving despite the low will due to their Resolve ability. I most likely will take it anyway though. That +0 Will save hurts my soul a little. The reason I have power attack is solely for bullrush, and with it, the Steer Opponent scabbard trick. Though if I don't live long enough to use it... I'm also worried about the -6 to AC after an Iaijutsu strike. Seems like it would really limit your chances to use it.
Hello all! My friend is running a Rise of the Runelords game, and it has likely fallen to me to play either a melee damage dealer, or possibly a tank. I wrote up a concept for a character that is a little out of my norm, and was hoping I could get some advice on him. This game will be 15-point buy. Human Samurai CN (Sword Saint)
Feats:Power Attack, Improved Bullrush.
Equipment: Katana, Four-Mirror Armor, 6-8 Combat Scabbards. Next level I plan on picking up Equipment Trick: Heavy Blade Scabbard. I'm sure you can see from here where I'm going with this. There is a lot this character can do with this many options with one feat and that many scabbards. I eventually want to pick up Improved unarmed strike and probably Crane style, but other than that, he needs more defense feats to be a guardian type character(for his own glory of course). Any suggestions for future feats? Also what do you think the action is to pick up my scabbard after an Iaijutsu Strike? Same as a weapon? Quick draw might be worth it at that point(I know it's a prerequisite for Scabbard Hurl, but my DM might be ok with Weapon Expertise being the prereq).

:O Holy cow, you're right. ...I've been playing for over 2 years and I always thought it was exotic. Why? Wow, well that'll require some more investigation. Thanks for the heads-up!
Jodokai wrote: The other thing you might want to consider is switching out your longsword for a Scimitar. I had originally planned on taking some kind of exotic weapon but it just started stacking on feats I wanted to save for more shield bashing. I'd love to just play a 2 shield fighter but my DM doesn't like the idea xD. (and yes I know shield bonuses don't stack, I just love shields that much.) DwarfsRBest wrote: A Dwarf would be better. Hah! I thought of a dwarf for a long time but that 20 speed kills me. I like that a fighter can eventually move full speed in armor. Probably the main thing that attracted me to the fighter in the first place. I promise my next character will be a dwarf though. ;D I'm not a fan of archetypes in general. They can do some great things and really help portray a character you're envisioning, but I always feel like there's some huge drawback. I believe with that one it's the armor training. I really love armor training. and the weapon training will be used for shield bash anyway. I will check out Phalanx Soldier though. Thanks for the advice.
My phone's freaking out, sorry about that. I find the tax completely reasonable. Having played a crafting wizard on more than one occasion, you are sacrificing your feats to help the group. The least they can do is pay you for the service. Plus with the costs of spell components later on, you'll need all the coin you can get. I've personally never charged, but I plan on tipping my crafting wizard in this campaign quite well.
Oh, great idea with iron will. Totally forgot about will saves. Well the rules for mithril armor say they lower the category (heavy becomes medium, medium becomes light). I was wondering if that applied to shields too, and if it made a heavy shield count as a light shield and therefore a light weapon for the purpose of twf. I think my DM said that it doesn't work as soon as it becomes a weapon. Not sure though.
Hello, my DM suggested I post my fighter build here for advice seeing as how it's my first attempt at playing one, so here it goes.
Str 16 Dex 15 Con 14 Int 10 Wis 10 Cha 8
So what do you guys think? Any areas I need improvement or am I laying on the shield too thick? I was considering getting weapon focus shield spikes instead and choosing close weapon group as my main. One thing I wasn't sure about was that I had planned on using a mithril heavy shield to bash. Would I still incur the -4/-4 or does mithril heavy still count as heavy? I guess I'm ok with using a light shield if I have to.
