I'd love to join. Think I'd play a dwarf since no one else has yet.

It would have to be in a way that still allows for damage, otherwise sundering armor wouldn't work. I personally like the idea of making outer space combat really intense by having environmental protection fail in space if you get shot. Makes space as spooky as it should be.

However I realize that doesn't answer the question, so how about environmental protection is a thin layer inside most armors that is repaired with nanobots? They don't repair the armor itself though, because any use of them should be saved for critical emergencies.

I'm interested in playing as well. I just need the log sheet from our last adventure. ;p

I'm interested as well. I'm at work right now, but as soon as I have some down time I can send you my character information.

I'm attacking bookrat. He provoked me, I promise.

I should be all updated if you want to give my character sheet a once over.

Hiya. Just fleshing out my character's backstory and buying gear now. Then the hardest part of any character... the name. I'm a mwangi life Oracle.

Hey I'm the afore mentioned ball of death. The Psion plays this same type of character in every game we've ever played. He always leaves everyone to die. To his credit though, it was actually me that suggested grease, then explained how it would stop him from charging. He just completely disregarded the advice. Also he did finally come back and heal the cryptic after the whole table was visibly upset, but was a reeeeeeal dick about it. Pointing at the half giant's blood and exclaiming "hey look, grease." to the cryptic after the battle. If it were just his character, fine, but it's not. He's just playing himself in real life.

How do languages work? Also, do I have hatred of humans as my racial trait? I looked through the alternates but there's nothing to replace it. I don't mind having it, just seems a little strange. :p

Male Human Fallen Paladin 3 / Fighter 3

xD I pissed her off good.

Male Human Fallen Paladin 3 / Fighter 3

That sounded like an evil DM laugh. I am frightened.

Male Human Fallen Paladin 3 / Fighter 3

Where should we roll for race, here or on the gameplay tab? Also are we waiting until the witch actually hex's us?

Male Human Fallen Paladin 3 / Fighter 3

Also I'm not sure if it's been discussed, but are we taking favored class into account up to 3rd lv?

Male Human Fallen Paladin 3 / Fighter 3

Sorry, they've been calling me in to work a lot recently and I'm not able to read as fast as you guys are posting. Haha. I'll update my info in full in a moment here. Printer is on the frits so it's back to oldschool binder paper for me. I'm really liking these magical items, and am really tempted to get one, but I think per my character's story, he'd have a lot of wealth and not really anything he holds important to himself. Other than his own face, of course. I'll be going with 3rd lv wealth.

Male Human Fallen Paladin 3 / Fighter 3

A bit of story for my character to tie in other characters:

Fray was born into a rather wealthy family. As he grew, he became obsessed with himself, despite how others viewed him. He took great care of himself, but soon he wanted for more. He began researching ways to enhance himself; to become even more beautiful. He stumbled upon the art of alchemy and became instantly entranced. He read of gained physical prowess, enhanced powers of persuasion, and even a few instances of slowing or even stopping the aging process. He found a tutor and began training immediately.
During the course of his studies, he found that a special plant that only grew in a specific swamp was required for his research. He hired a few bodyguards to accompany him to the swamp, as he did not trust local merchants to supply him with what he needed at a reasonable cost.

Strength 14
Dexterity 14
Constitution 12
Intelligence 15
Wisdom 10
Charisma 11 <--(Pretty boy but awful personality)

My character is going to be a bit of a narcissist. He became an alchemist to further enhance himself in an attempt to gain power and become "perfect". The man's in love with himself. I really like the idea of him flipping out when his "perfect features" are replaced with kobold face or something. Should be fun.

I'm thinking of playing an alchemist. I have a background idea I like for this campaign idea specifically.

I'd love to join if you have room. This is a really interesting concept and I've always wanted to try a game with unique races.

I take this as more of something you could do so your party doesn't have to waste their time waiting for the rogue to steal something. Or so your full plate fighter who insists on following you with a -10 stealth, doesn't completely blow your cover. Or if there's that character in every party that is against stealing, then they don't have to be a part of it. Quick rolls, it's done, no one bickering at the table.
Just last night I attempted 2 quick pickpockets and I could feel everyone at the table tensing up. Not because I might fail, but because I was wasting their time.

For the Equipment trick: scabbard hurl, it states you can attack anyone you can see. Is there a range increment on this?

Power Attack + Furious Focus. Power Attack on your iaijutsu strikes with no penalty.

Consider a 2-level sohei monk dip. I started my samurai with a 2-level sohei/master of many styles dip and it's been pretty awesome. Better saves, a crap ton of bonus feats, and the ability to always act in the surprise round. I also have all 3 Crane style feats so my AC is good and I can auto-block 1 melee attack per round. I considered sword saint, but went with regular samurai instead. I think iaijutsu strike as a full-round action means that it wouldn't really get used a lot in actual play--if I run up to a monster, I want to attack it right away, not wait 1 more round so I can draw down for an iaijutsu strike. YMMV.

My DM actually suggested this too. Not a bad idea.

Dodge is always an attractive option. I heard somewhere that samurai are really good at saving despite the low will due to their Resolve ability. I most likely will take it anyway though. That +0 Will save hurts my soul a little.

The reason I have power attack is solely for bullrush, and with it, the Steer Opponent scabbard trick. Though if I don't live long enough to use it...

I'm also worried about the -6 to AC after an Iaijutsu strike. Seems like it would really limit your chances to use it.

Hello all! My friend is running a Rise of the Runelords game, and it has likely fallen to me to play either a melee damage dealer, or possibly a tank. I wrote up a concept for a character that is a little out of my norm, and was hoping I could get some advice on him. This game will be 15-point buy.

Human Samurai CN (Sword Saint)
STR 16
DEX 13
CON 12
INT 10
WIS 10
CHA 14

Feats:Power Attack, Improved Bullrush.
Order of the Cockatrice

Equipment: Katana, Four-Mirror Armor, 6-8 Combat Scabbards.

Next level I plan on picking up Equipment Trick: Heavy Blade Scabbard. I'm sure you can see from here where I'm going with this. There is a lot this character can do with this many options with one feat and that many scabbards. I eventually want to pick up Improved unarmed strike and probably Crane style, but other than that, he needs more defense feats to be a guardian type character(for his own glory of course).

Any suggestions for future feats? Also what do you think the action is to pick up my scabbard after an Iaijutsu Strike? Same as a weapon? Quick draw might be worth it at that point(I know it's a prerequisite for Scabbard Hurl, but my DM might be ok with Weapon Expertise being the prereq).

I had originally planned on taking some kind of exotic weapon but it just started stacking on feats I wanted to save for more shield bashing. I'd love to just play a 2 shield fighter but my DM doesn't like the idea xD. (and yes I know shield bonuses don't stack, I just love shields that much.)
Uh...the scimitar is Martial. That's why he suggested it. No additional investment required.

:O Holy cow, you're right. ...I've been playing for over 2 years and I always thought it was exotic. Why? Wow, well that'll require some more investigation. Thanks for the heads-up!

A Dwarf would be better.

Hah! I thought of a dwarf for a long time but that 20 speed kills me. I like that a fighter can eventually move full speed in armor. Probably the main thing that attracted me to the fighter in the first place. I promise my next character will be a dwarf though. ;D

I'm not a fan of archetypes in general. They can do some great things and really help portray a character you're envisioning, but I always feel like there's some huge drawback. I believe with that one it's the armor training. I really love armor training. and the weapon training will be used for shield bash anyway.

I will check out Phalanx Soldier though. Thanks for the advice.

*disguised voice* You should get a whole bunch of wands of cure wounds for the fighter in your group. He's such an awesome guy isn't he? :D

My phone's freaking out, sorry about that. I find the tax completely reasonable. Having played a crafting wizard on more than one occasion, you are sacrificing your feats to help the group. The least they can do is pay you for the service. Plus with the costs of spell components later on, you'll need all the coin you can get. I've personally never charged, but I plan on tipping my crafting wizard in this campaign quite well.

Ok. Light shield it is then. Thanks guys. :)

Oh, great idea with iron will. Totally forgot about will saves.

Well the rules for mithril armor say they lower the category (heavy becomes medium, medium becomes light). I was wondering if that applied to shields too, and if it made a heavy shield count as a light shield and therefore a light weapon for the purpose of twf. I think my DM said that it doesn't work as soon as it becomes a weapon. Not sure though.

Hello, my DM suggested I post my fighter build here for advice seeing as how it's my first attempt at playing one, so here it goes.
It's 15 point buy and I'm trying to focus on a balance between being a good defender and bludgeoning everything to death with my shield bash.

Str 16 Dex 15 Con 14 Int 10 Wis 10 Cha 8
Human Heart of the Wilderness variant trait. First level feats: Weapon focus: longsword, shield focus, combat reflexes
From there I'll pick up Stand still, twf, improved shield bash, missile shield, shield specialization, shield slam, disruptive, greater shield focus, bodyguard, spell breaker, shield master, ray shield, greater shield specialization, in harm's way, then the rest of the weapon focuses and specializations for longsword. Then probably pick up vital strike and teleport tactitian, but I don't think the AP goes past 15th level.

So what do you guys think? Any areas I need improvement or am I laying on the shield too thick? I was considering getting weapon focus shield spikes instead and choosing close weapon group as my main.

One thing I wasn't sure about was that I had planned on using a mithril heavy shield to bash. Would I still incur the -4/-4 or does mithril heavy still count as heavy? I guess I'm ok with using a light shield if I have to.
He's currently equipped with scalemail, a longsword, a spiked gauntlet and a heavy steel shield I don't plan on bashing with until I have the feats to back it up. I'll probably pick up a bow too just because.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
