I haven't disappeared so much as been snowed under with real-life, anyway...
Corvus glares at the ape as Ceer asks the last question. She is obviously hoping her presence will influence the creature's willingness to answer fully.
Intimidate roll 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Mo'butu wrote: Mo'butu couldn't help himself. He inspected the spear that Ku'Ada had identified. "Mind if I hold it," he asked the collected group. It was amazingly finely crafted, that was for sure, he decided after waving it around for a bit.
AFter a few moments, he approached Corvus. "One of us could probably put this to the best use. If you want it, you may certinaly have it."
Either me or Corvus would be the best for it, I think. Not sure if Corvus wants to give up the greatsword or not...you want the spear, please take it.
Corvus eyes the spear and taking it lightly in both hands, gives a few exploratory swings and lunges. "It's nicely balanced and very pretty...but I always go with what I know." She hands the spear to Mo'butu.
Hefting her sword as if it weighed no more than a dagger, she smiles wide enough to show all her teeth as she twirls the greatsword with a satisfied air.
"Much better. You keep the spear."
Ceer wrote: Yeah...I'm thinking that Mo'butu or I cast Entangle and then apply this formula:
Corvus + Magic Spear + Rage + Enlarge Person = 1 really nasty barbarian
Assuming, of course, that Corvus agrees to this :)
Would Enlarge Person make the reach of the spear 20' or 15'?
Make that a nastier barbarian and you have a deal...
Corvus will be updated within 24 hours at the outside.
Corvus looks almost disappointed at the lack of combat. "Well done," she mutters, her eyes glancing around for something to hit with her sword.
Happy with Corvus' position. She'll take up a spot somewhere between where she's prompted by the group and right at the front (as the latter is always her preference).
Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
"Just tell me what needs doing and I'll do it. Deciding we needed a plan was the extent of my planning skills."
She grins and steps forward, obviously eager to act.
CLW 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
CLW 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
EDIT - That's me back to full HP, thanks
Listening to Ceer, Corvus mutters audibly, "I know I'm a 'rush in and hit things kind of girl' but even I sense we'll need some sort of plan if it's that big and can attack from more than one source."
Barbarian or not, Corvus is INT 14. In the heat of battle, it would be a different story of course.
"I guess we press on." Corvus switches to her two-handed sword. "If we're past the point of notknowing what might leap out at us, I think it best to switch to maximumising the damage I can inflict."
"Is there anything else you can tell us about the creature. How huge is 'huge.'"
Ceer wrote: Ceer looks at Corvus..."Ummm, maybe we can get you a shield in the next set of ruins that we visit. I think we need to break through the shield." Corvus laughs. It's a deep, throaty affair. "I never did care much for cast-offs anyways."
"That's handy. Perhaps a little too handy?" Corvus looks around her cautiously.
"I presume nobody is expecting me to just go and pick it up!"
Wishing to keep one hand free, Corvus sheaths her sword and holds her kukri in her right hand.
"I can see fine, thanks."
Flexing her left hand, she murmurs to herself. "I think I ought to get me some sort of shield for these confined spaces."
I echo the other's views on this one. And although I have nothing new to add, better I show that I've paid attention ; )
Corvus indicates that those remaining inside the temple should follow the rest of the group. "In my experience, splitting up never leads to anything good."
Corvus keeps quiet and her wits about her. In her experience of ruins, the clues so far could be the result of robbers or some intricate trap.
CLW 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Corvus has been in enough ruins in the jungles of the Expanse to kep her wits about her.
She moves carefully, keeping a watchful eye on her surroundings.
Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Mo'butu wrote: I think the druid, the panther and the barbarian should go next, in some combination. Since Corvus is kinda beat up, le the druid and panther go in front of Corvus right now. I second that...
Corvus accepts the healing from Mo'butu. "Thanks," she offers, and grins widely. "I don't know what it is but I always underestimate vegetables."
Corvus sighs as best she can with the wind being slowly squeezed out of her. She takes one hand from the sword hilt and gives the plant a hard smack with her first.

No pressure on any healer types, but I'm down to 13 HP. If it survives another round I may be toast...
Mike the GM - what options (if any) are available to me this round?
Corvus realises too late that she's moved too close to the plant. "Bother," she mutters under her breath as she readies her sword in both hands. "I'd better make this count."
With all of her might, she swings her sword in a wide arc for maximum damage.
Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 192d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 3) + 4 = 12
My AC is 14, so I presume the creature fails with it's attack
Grapple 1d20 ⇒ 15
Mike the GM - I've been thinking about this overnight. Isn't this still the surprise round? That's why I simply walked forward and didn't engage. I presumed I could not be attacked.
Oops...I thought I'd kept far enough away to be safe this round
Reflex 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
Grapple 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
I understand that I get an attack of opportunity if I am the subject of an attempted grapple
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 162d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 5) + 4 = 11
Corvus moves forward 30', drawing her sword as she walks.

Given the choices, I'll go for either Perception/Survival - they're both +5. Oh, and it will be quicker to have Init at 10+Mod - rather than wait for us all to roll.
Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
But if the majority decide to roll...
Initiative 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Corvus approaches Nu'mara and Chacall. "I can offer whatever help you may need. I know this area a little and this type of terrain a lot."

Corvus has, byt this time, drifted over to where the main group are gathered.
She doesn't say anything, and seems happy to listen, nodding every now and then at something that's spoken.
Ku'ada wrote: Mike the GM wrote: Maybe we should make a spreadsheet for all the treasure, or something. Hmm. Yeps, this is a little confuscifating.
Corvus: ?gp
Put me down for 400gp to the pool. I can do without dragonhide gauntlets...
So, my revised plan is:
1,400gp available, 500gp must be spent here
400gp - into the 'team-pot' for potions etc.
55gp - artisans tools, masterwork (cooking utensils actually)
100gp - musical instrument, masterwork (flute)
10gp - a collection of cardomon, peppercorns, nutmeg, garlic and turmeric (for cooking of course)
That's 565 spent and 835 saved in the form of gems etc.
In trying to find something to buy that fitted my character, the one thing that struck me (not physically of course) was gauntlets. Dragon hide gauntlets to match my armour.
The cost?
2gp + 300gp (mwk) + 300gp (dragonhide)
That's 604gp per gauntlet. And the benefit is a +1 on the damage from 3 to 4.
Is there any negotiating on the price? Is this even something I could pick up here? It's flavour rather than an essential piece of kit.
Is anyone up for pooling some gold for supplies for the group? If not, I'll use my gold to buy some potions of CLW and hand them out - or I might pick up a fancy new weapon to add to my collection!
OK, my plan is:
1,400gp available, 500gp must be spent here
200gp - into the 'team-pot' for potions etc.
55gp - artisans tools, masterwork (cooking utensils actually)
100gp - musical instrument, masterwork (flute)
10gp - a collection of cardomon, peppercorns, nutmeg, garlic and turmeric (for cooking of course)
That's 365gp spent so far. If I can't think of anything else that's sensible for my character, I'll throw some more into the 'pot.'
Corvus Kubaryi wrote: I'm working away from home - so it will be tonight (Friday) at the earliest before I can access my books and decide what to spend my money on... ...and I forgot about the online reference guide!
I was wondering - as what I want to buy I can't afford and what I can afford I don't want to buy - is it worth the group pooling some money for essential items e.g. potions of healing and the like? These are not things my character would ever buy for herself, but I'd be willing to put a couple of hundred gold into a pot that could be used for useful magical items (as an example).
I'm working away from home - so it will be tonight (Friday) at the earliest before I can access my books and decide what to spend my money on...
Corvus attends the pot that is obviously brewing something of a simple broth. It is meagre rations and one sniff tells her it lacks any real flavour.
Stirring the pot, Corvus take a small sip and winces. She then removes her backpack and rumages inside. Within a few moments she has added a variety of spices to the thick liquid and now a delicious aroma eminates from the pot.
As Ceer speaks to her she nods in acknowledgement. "It is my destiny to help travellers in need. I believe you would have handled the great ape even without my help but it never hurts to lend a hand when you can."
MM - With us being only a step away from third level, you could consider some neat multi-class character.
Plus I know we have a rogue fighter but how about an out and out rogue? With all of the ancient ruins here, you could consider a treasure hunter type. Or even Indy?
Corvus scans the camp and sniffs the air. "There's something about fighting that always makes me hungry."
If anyone is cooking, she will make a beeline for them.
Corvus closes her eyes and after a few moments, she opens them - taking in the scene around her. She is aware that she has been asked to head into the camp with her blade held high in one hand, the other used to help drag Garboko into the camp.
Corvus stays at the beast's side. Still looking to make eye contact if at all possible, she once more swings her greatsword with a two-handed swipe, grunting audibly with the effort.

Corvus moves to R33 diagonally to avoid AOO. Does this set up a flank? Just he's a big object and it's hard to set up perfect diagonals. I'll roll presuming no flanking. Please adjust if he is flanked.
In her 'rage zone' Corvus moves quickly to the beast's side. Looking to make eye contact if at all possible, to unsettle the ape, she wields her mighty greatsword with both hands and hacks at the huge beast with all her might.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 242d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13
Rage round 2 of 9 rounds today
Temporarily STR = 20, CON = 20, AC = 12, HP = 31, to hit and damage modifiers added
Corvus calls upon her inner reserves of strength and ferocity - entering her 'zone.'
In the 'zone'. Corvus is acutely aware of the primitive nature of all animals. Pride and standing count for a lot in their world. As she holds her sword in both hands, she stares deeply into Garboko's eyes. Her intention is to demoralize the beast and if he back down, the apes may choose to disown him as their leader.

Corvus has not, you notice, killed any of the sleeping apes - allowing her companions to do so. She hasn't voiced any complaint, but neither has she slain any of them.
"Garboko?" she asks of the group. "The kill, kill, kill bit I understand. Or at least I think I do. At least at one of the prisoners looks to be fighting someone - or something - called Garboko. I'm not sure we have time for fancy plans any more. And that's usually where I come into the reckoning."
Corvus looks around the group for guidance, her sword held firmly in both hands.
Corvus whispers. "Divide and conquer is a well known saying for a good reason. On their own, they can be dealt with. If they return when we're in the camp?..." Corvus leaves her words trailing.
Corvus points at the three departing apes. Whispering, she says quietly, "Stating the obvious, but those three will come back sooner or later."
Ceer wrote: He says to Corvus, "Follow me." He glances at her sword and says, "and bring that with you if you don't mind." Corvus follows Ceer wordlessly, her face showing no emotion.
Corvus is aware that she's attracted the attention of at least two of the group by now.
"I followed you along the ruby trail," she offers. "I thought you might need some help with the lost Pathfinders."
She lowers her sword as a sign of servility. "If you'll accept me of course." As she finishes speaking, she casts her eyes at the apes ahead.
I tend to make my posts in combat quite fluid but without being overly complex. e.g. Attack the nearest ape-man (rather than the one at E42, or if that's dead E38, or if that one's being attacked...)
I'm also happy for the GM to carry out the intent of my attack. If the ape-man I state is gone by the time it's my turn, I'm happy for him to point me at another as long as it doesn't place me in real danger I wouldn't otherwise be in.
I suppose I'm with Nu'mara and don't see an urgent need to fix anything.
