That is an amazing idea BNW. I'll admit I dont frequent these boards much these days but I had never heard of that map. We need to advertise that more.

I'm surprised that more people have not filled out areas that are missing. You would think that owners of game stores would be all over that.

Edit: Well I'm blind. It is stickied in the forum.

There exist modules that give 120K gold. At that point just hire a bunch of people to carry your money for you.

Seriously though, it is excellent that you are keeping track of weight and encumbrance and I applaud your efforts.

At the start of games, I usually ask the players what their PC is and what do they do that is cool. This allows me to ask questions about feats, traits, class features and what have you before the game starts. This will likely catch any mistake made by the player before the game starts. Occasionally, I will ask a question with a purposefully wrong leading answer. This lets me know if the player understands how their PC works or not. This opening round allows me to ask what source "that" is from and if I could please see it.

Thus, don't give me a reason to think you are cheating. If you do, expect me to start asking you to justify numbers rolled.

There is a much longer version of this post somewhere in my posting history.

While that works well for a GM, players often have no such recourse. There is nothing in the guide that gives me the right to demand an audit of the scenario during the game, even if I do suspect the GM is not being completely on the up and up.

Now after the scenario, I can and often do, read it with particular interest in those encounters that seemed fishy. Sometimes, it was just bad luck and the GM was a really good player. Sometimes it was just an incomplete or inaccurate reading of the scenario.

There are those rare occasions though where it becomes clear the GM was just outright cheating in order to make it harder than it was supposed to be.

You are now allowed to screw up entire planets.

This is why humans should be banned. They have already screwed up an entire planet (namely Earth).

I am strongly opposed to having to read all these words.

It would be nice to have an actual list though. I see the word "portfolio" bandied about in the core rulebook but no actual definition of what that means.

Bob is correct. With the plethora of new options for specials/exclusives, I predict an explosion in the numbers soon.

I just downloaded 6-98 with no problem. Maybe restart your browser?

I got Bonekeep 2 and 6-98: Serpent's Rise.

Have not received 6-99: True Dragons of Absalom.

I am scheduled to run it at a convention in September, so I hope I get it soon.

Grand Lodge 5/5

I just checked, and I do not have either of them in my downloads.

Congratulations. Its a large hill to climb.

Thanks John. Unfortunately I had already sent a PM. I see that you got my message? I apologize for jumping the gun there.

I've got some issues to address but don't know who is fielding PFS questions.

By the way, I have already tried to resolve via VC. No luck.

You can actually (sort of) play two pregens at once.

If you're at a table of three, you can play a pregen for your own character. Then there's the "make a table" pregen. The Guide isn't very specific about who plays that pregen. Sometimes I've run it as GM (at tables with a bunch of not-very-experienced Pathfinder players), but usually the GM assigns the duties of running the pregen to another player.

There was one time when I played both Seoni and Kira; Seoni was "my" pregen, for my chararacters who wasn't let level 7, and Kira was the "table" pregen. But I was the one driving both of them.

-Rob

In the Game Master section of the guide on page 32 it says:

"In cases in which you simply cannot seat four players, you may run a table of three players, and play an official level-appropriate pregenerated character in order to meet the minimum table size of four PCs."

Seems pretty specific to me. It is however pretty common practice, at least in my area, for the GM (who is already overloaded on responsibility) to allow a player to play the pre-gen in addition to his normal character.

Kind of short notice. There are 4 signed up. They are lower level though and it would be good to raise the APL a bit.

I just checked. Still nothing. They did change the name of the previous site to say its for Adventure League only signups though.

Grand Lodge 5/5

Thanks again everyone!

It was a journey to be sure. My first game run was in June 2012. I hit 3 stars in March 2014 and 4 stars in September 2014.

Grand Lodge 5/5

Thanks everyone!

The Spell List Index for the Advanced Class Guide is listing spells as one level lower than they actually are for all classes.

For example, if you select Advanced Class Guide and Cantrips/Orisons and Cleric/Oracle, it lists:

Blessed Fist
Refine Improvised Weapon
Stunning Barrier

Which are all level 1 spells for a cleric. Other levels are off as well.

Grand Lodge 5/5

I have run Murder's Mark twice now and it took about 8 hours each time. It was letting the players role play too much at the carnival I think that did it. Super fun module though.

The most interesting game I ever ran contained three 5 star GMs a 4 star GM and a 3 star GM. Think I could rely on the players to know the rules? Not a chance!

The flagbearer feat is legal, but it specifically states that you must hold the flag in your hand for the feat to work. It's the price you pay for such an awesome feat. (Also, there is a link to Additional Resources if you can't download it under Player Resources).

The Banner of Ancient Kings does allow you to attach your flag to a spear instead of being required to hold it in your hand as well as its other bonuses.

The banner does require you to be firmly holding the spear with two hands to get the benefit. Plus it is very expensive. I do have it on my bard (1 xp from retirement now) for its additional effects on inspire courage.

I also feel they are adding too much too fast. The advanced class guide classes at least were mixes of classes that we were already familiar with. These new classes seem to use totally different mechanics which makes it much more difficult to take in (at least for me). I am hoping that not many people make these in my area.

Heck, I am still learning stuff from the core rule book (just learned a piece of minutia from chapter 8 this past weekend). My brain is full!

Grand Lodge 5/5

Are these new classes legal even though the playtest document is not yet in additional resources? I'm a bit confused on that point.

Grand Lodge

I know it says that these classes can be used in PFS but I cannot find Occult Adventures Playtest in Additional Resources. These classes are not yet legal until it is added, right?

We are all (or at least can be) GMs and we are all players. There need not be a distinction in my opinion. You either follow the rules or you do not. Its the same player either way. If you are going to cheat, you are probably going to cheat no matter which side of the GM screen you are on.

Intention is everything when talking about whether something is cheating or not.

Except that it's not. By reading ahead when you didn't "need" to, you give yourself knowledge that you have to then somehow avoid using. Often that results in you not participating in decision making (because you know which door has the trap, or which clues are red herrings), or avoiding speaking to an NPC (because you know the right thing to say to get their help or to trigger a specific clue). If you hadn't pre-read, you would be able to participate more fully in the adventure, which is to everyone's benefit.

This is actually a good point that I had not considered before.

My misunderstanding then. I thought that meant screen side down making it useless.

I had the exact same misunderstanding. I run a lot of games online. You kind of have to just give up and trust your players in that format. Makes me much more tolerant when running games in person.

That actually affected someone I ran for last night. They had a spinosaurus. Not having ever seen that companion and not seeing anything saying they ever were legal made me wonder. Changes like that need to be spelled out very clearly.

Back in season 2 and before it actually had a paragraph in the Guide titled "Do Not Read the Scenario". It was tantamount to cheating at that time. It was removed from being specifically called out in season 3, however.

Interesting. I didnt start playing until season 3 so I never saw a season 2 guide.

Grand Lodge 5/5

I have had to run several scenarios before I got to play them. I do not read scenarios unless I have to. It just makes it less enjoyable when I do get around to playing them. For example, I have had to walk into traps before knowing full well it might kill me.

I use a folio as well. When running, I often lend my folio to a player who doesnt have one when they really need it. It reinforces the fact that they need to buy one themselves.

I plan to specifically call on players I know have not taken very good notes when I run this. :) I'm a meanie.

I played it over the weekend at high subtier at a convention. We had my zen archer and a gunslinger so the combats were fairly trivial even though the gunslinger did fall through the grate kicking off the second encounter before the top level was under control. Just made it a little bit more exciting is all.
