Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

Woohoo! Space marine carnage is back!
I'm in!

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

I'm not sure if anyone will see this, and I don't want to get anyone's hopes up if they see a post, but I just wanted to say thanks. I really enjoyed this game short though it was. The concept was really good, made brilliant by the roleplaying everyone went for. I hope the RL problems that took people's time away are all good ones and wish you many happy games in the future.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

Still here, although I was getting a little hit and miss when we stopped.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

Travelling to Greece tomorrow to see the In-laws. Will be able to post from there, but probably not until Sunday or Monday.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

As Vaylund returns Cato's chainsword he thanks him briefly and returns to inspecting the wounded Raven Guard. Inwardly cursing his lost Exsanguinator, he mutters a prayer to the Emperor and tries to help, but the time and circumstances defeat his abilities to identify all the injuries.
Medicae 50: 1d100 ⇒ 61

Dragging the body to the dubious safety of the centre of the group, he places him in a position of recovery. Turning to the other Raven Guard he explains, " I will do all I can for your brother, but without my Exsanguinator I can do little. First we must defend ourselves and him so that no others join him." before readying his chainsword to defend the circle.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

Cato speaks out as he tries to dig out the wounded Raven Guard to see what can be done.

"Brothers, my chainsword was lost in the beast's initial attack, it should be around here somewhere, if someone can find it. I will try and aid our wounded brother here, is anyone else hurt?"

Might have to rethink my action with search 15, I can do a lot more good helping than trying to search.

Cato tries to throw himself clear, convinced he hasn't made it far enough, the worm begins to roll back from him at the last moment. Rising to his feet, he realises that his blade is probably now lost to the sand and moves to the fallen marine, starting to pull him back from the worm's reach.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

No problems Bayou, makes sense. I am at a wedding this weekend, so I will post now, but may not get a chance after that until Monday. Not sure if I get any other action this turn, but if not feel free to use this next turn.

Distracted by seeing the Raven Guard swallowed whole, Cato is battered by the first worm. Having been thrown by the blow, Cato has to shake his head clear of stars before he can react. The comfortable presence of the chainsword missing from his hand, he rises and moves to gather up his weapon.
"Brother Tiamat, I am in your debt. How fares our Raven brother? Does he need my aid urgently or do I have time to help destroy these worms first."

Immersed in gathering information from the Raven Guard, Cato doesn't see the movements in the sand until they are pointed out by the others. Disengaging from the staged fight he readies his blade and moves to stand at Tiamat's 2 o'clock position, close enough to intercept a charging attacker without blocking his field of fire.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

Merry Christmas to all as well. Vorenthar, I hope the eventful part is over and everything is on the up from here on.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

The Raven Guard attacking Cato reacts quickly to Cato's defence and strikes out with a heavy looking blow. Playing along Cato takes the heavy parry and the pair spring into a rapid series of attacks, parries and counter attacks. " Brother, have you seen any weaknesses in the xenos derence, any chance to turn the tables?"

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

Stopping his run, Cato raises his sword in both hands and adopts a balanced, defensive stace. Cato tries to assess the marine attacking him, before using the full force of his personality to persuade the marine to listen.

If Cato believes them to be Imperial marines:
"Brother, stop! Our shared father's father would not approve this. I am Brother Cato, priest of the Blood Angels. My job is to lead you forward in the fighting and killing of the xenos. Side with us, we will destroy them all and fight our way back to our chapters together. For the glory of the Emperor!"

If Cato suspects they are Chaos marines:
"Foul traitor, I will make you pay before we crush the foul xenos"

Adopting a defensive stance

Nodding his head at the order, Cato revs his chainsword and takes position in the running formation.

It is a big step from Sanguinary Priest to renegade, but I can imagine the small steps. I don't have Black Crusade, but that can always be changed! I'm happy to play it however and although returning to our chapters would be important, it would be unlikely that space marines would leave a greater threat behind even without direct orders. I think there is a story in the horus heresy series involving a thousand son (pre turning to tzeentch), an honour guard of Ultramarines and a Space Wolf blood claw squad led by a Wolf guard, meeting at a way station and working together to combat the Emperor's Children. I guess what i mean is that there is plenty of precedent.
Looking forward to this, I might avoid pushing for leader for a while though as that often requires longer posts.

Completely ditto Tiamat's comments to both Gathrix and Bayou.
As I play Pyros in Storm of Sinners, you will have noticed I'm sure that my posting has been a little spotty, so I am unsure about starting up Cato again. I think I should be a little more consistent now and I like both Cato and this story, so I would like to carry him on, but I don't want to slow things down for anyone else. Just want to lay my cards on the table now, how would you guys feel about that? What sort of posting rate are we aiming for? Realistically I am probably able to post every other day on average.

Still interested. As long as I can keep posting levels up, this was always fast and furious

Glad you are on the mend, keep at it hard though it is. Addictive stuff as well which doesn't help.Get well soon.

"Brothers, this is good, let them waste themselves against the armour that has been returned to us. However if we pull even tighter, so that our back is always against that of a brother we will protect our weaker armour and they cannot outnumber us. They may land more shots, but only against our thicker armour. When they get careless and get too close, we can swarm one. If on Vorenthar's command, you throw that grenade Knutr. At the same time you throw that dust storm at the others Vaylund and this of us with combat weapons can swarm the doomed xenos. One by one they will fall."

As per my tactics role we can get a bonus to defence, see spoiler

As he says this Cato will move to cover the back of Tiamat, scanning the ground as he goes for a ranged weapon to add to his blade.

Search 15: 1d100 ⇒ 6 Simple success +Vaylund bonus would be 2dos. Looking for a bolter or something similar.

I was thinking it had a bit of a Bebop from TMNT look, bit who doesn't love a plume!

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

As the Archon speaks and Knutr shouts back, Cato opens a vox link to the others.
Do not bother, ignore them. Let us take this time to set up as a team. I tried to lead us in the last challenge, but I am clearly not ready yet. I suggest Vorenthar leads us this day and we swear an oath to each other, for we must work together to punish this enemy."

As they enter the arena, Cato stands ready, briefly glancing around for a weapon. Seeing Tiamat pick up a Lascannon, he runs tactics in his head. "Might I suggest we form a defensive ring around Tiamat, we can keep the beasts off him so that he can punish them with his heavy weapon, whilst it's ammo lasts and then I am sure he will be only too happy to join us in crushing skulls."

Not sure if we can have an Oath or leader yet, but putting the RP in place.
Ok so looking for a melee weapon of some kind, preferably a chainsword. I am not perceptive, so here goes nothing!

Ok so here are all my catch up bits in one post!
Thanks for the congrats and commiserations, I hav already had my stag and it involved a brewery, a cider farm, drinking out of a drinking horn whilst wearing a viking helmet, sword and shield and having to shout "By the power of Greyskull, I have the power" every time I took a drink!

Feliks was a great shout on the MVP, I think I would have picked him too.

Wow, Mark 1, love it. So I assume that is also the 0 bonus to autosenses, isn't sealed as well. Does that include the +15 bonus to cohesion damage tests for the leader? or is that only if you have a full set?

After what I said earlier, I will actually stick with None shall escape the Emperor’s Wrath +5 BS -10 to dodge in melee, for a bit of variety, wouldn't want to copy Vorenthar after all, plus I just got a Mk 1 helmet!

"Vaylund would you keep a look out and see if you can figure out a way to reunite with our brothers? I will see what this poor soul carried and if it may be of any use to us."

Switch Strong point target to Chrono 4.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

I went for one of each, purely to fit with my character, the power maul is just there as I had spare request and wasn't sure what these guys would be packing! But fully intend to use the chainsword unless it proves inadequate.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

Yeah I was conscious that we don't have much Cohesion left and would probably only get one pattern out of what was left.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

My thinking was that I can switch the target within Strong point as long as I stay stationary. Focus on one, bring him down. Then we outnumber them 2 to 1 (except Chrono 1, but he is a turn or so away). If we then swap to another and focus all those not holding up the other 2(maybe next most hurt), we could hopefully bring him down before Chrono 1 arrives. Rinse and repeat as we wear them down. What do you all think? (Probably should have asked this before initiating squad mode!)

Round 3

Awareness 30+10 HS sight: 1d100 ⇒ 291dos

Rising to his feet, Cato drops his pistol and draws his power maul. Gesturing with his melee weapons Cato speaks out in a voice that carries easily.

"Message received Brother Tiamat, everyone watch your flanks. Centre yourselves on me and let our Iron Fist become a Wall of Steel for our enemies to be smashed against 1 by 1"

I hope I'm not over stepping my position here, but this seemed worth it. And sorry I am late to the round's posting when I have a high Initiative and this may affect later actions.
Cohesion challenge 4: 1d10 ⇒ 5

Spend 1 FP to enter squad mode which should allow all within support range to enter as well. Spend 3 Cohesion (leaves 2 as we gain 1 back for my FP) to apply Strong point, centred on me, called target Chrono 2.

"Concentrate your fire on the one blooded by Knutr, for Sanguinius and his brothers!"

Strong point:
Full action, cost 3, Sustained= yes. Nominated centre (me) must remain stationary. Centre can Call Targets as free action or reaction. Brothers in support range get +20 to BS and WS against a called target, may reroll damage against it and may use their Reactions to make standard attacks against it. A target remains marked in this way until either the Centre moves or the Centre marks a new target.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

Sorry busy weekend Cato will run as before to keep up with Vorenthar, so roll away, as it would be wrong to use player knowledge here

Keeping up with Vorenthar, Cato sees the wall slice deeply into his leg. Cursing the xenos for his lack of equipment, Cato drops next to Vorenthar tearing strips to bind the leg.

First Aid 50: 1d100 ⇒ 33 1dos

Wounds healed: 1d5 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 I think that only counts as 6 as you are heavily damaged
"As Brother Tiamat says, let them come to us and the walls do the work, there is no need for more Astartes blood to be spilled this day"

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

Breaking into a run, but slowing just a fraction to match pace with Vorenthar.
Run move but reduced to keep pace with Vorenthar 24m I think

Indeed we do brother, and we should take all with us, destroying this xenos travesty at the same time. Let us reduce the threat and then we may have time to talk whilst we stall with the last enemy or two. I suggest we keep pace as best we can, only dropping enough to form a crescent around our enemies, pinning them against a wall. Our Techmarine is resourceful and will come up with something further I am sure"

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

Indeed it is I Einar.
Yeah I figured that too, but it is nice to have more than one option as well. Also fits the fluff as Sanguinary Priests have a leadership role within the Chapter, indeed they jointly share leadership of the Chapter with the Chaplains, if the chapter master should fall. Somewhat appropriate I feel!

Won't the tactics consist of one going charge, charge, charge and the other leading in a pure and normal way before forgetting everything and turning into a ravening monster.

Yeah agreed, the squad patterns was my line of thinking too.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

Don't worry, I'm normally a SW by choice (and am actually playing a Wolf Scout in another game. Unfortunately in that one I am having to chat more than is quite right, but trying to keep it terse at least.
Also, I didn't really expect my orders to be followed, but just playing up to a codex following(ish!) chapter and throwing my hat in the ring as a possible sometimes leader option.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

Not truly harm, for they cannot damage the steel of a marine's mind, however they can inconvenience him and that is where I come in!

I now have visions of the Black Knight from Monty Python, your armour would even match!

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

As the commissar was torn apart, the smallest of blood droplets landed on Cato's lip and without conscious thought he licked it. For the briefest of seconds Cato feels the Red Thirst nag at his brain, before his strong will reasserts itself. Distracted by this, Cato misses the significance of the walls.
We could hold them off, possibly even take one or 2 down before they reach us, but not these marines, the hatred and fire of youth burns to strongly in them

Also assuming they are quite far off

Gesturing with his revving chainsword, Cato advances at a run, snapping out orders as they move.
"Brothers Knutr and Vaylund take the flanks you will be our hammers. Vorenthar you and I hold back and hold the centre as the anvil. Feliks help Tiamat, we could do with another of those fire bombs. Let us encircle them and crush them in a grip of iron. Squeeze them brothers."

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

As Cato see the door begin to move and realises what is about to happen, his hand itches to give this loyal soldier the Emperor's Mercy and he speaks out in a strong clear voice.

"Loyal Commissar, know that the Emperor walks with you even through the pain and you go now to stand by his side. Your sacrifice does not serve these foul xenos, only us Astartes your brothers in arms. For it will fuel our hatred and inspire us to even greater feats for the Emperor. You will be avenged!"

Requisition:
Armour Left Leg and Left Arm =10
Rusted Bolt Pistol =5
Ammox2 =2
Worn Chainsword =6
Broken Power Maul =7
Total =30

Wow that was quick, was going to try and post an in between action using my Charm (which was admittedly going to be an attempt to get us an Oath and leader). Ah well, there is always next time.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

Ok was thinking swim after this last little challenge, but couldn't quite afford it.
Took Battle Rage for 400 and Charm for 300, which with left over from last mission leaves 150 spare.

Male Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest Rank 1, Wounds 23/23, Fate 5/5

Well as my vote is largely irrelevant now, I will just mention those I thought were in the running. Tiamat obviously and I think why is very well covered, Vaylund for complete portrayal of hate over tactics, his chapter would be proud, and finally Vorenthar for backing up a brother.

Xp increases I will do tonight.
