![]() Hello Wayne, first off I love your character designs, you really get a sense of the character's personality, history, and culture, from your drawings. Just by looking at your designs you get a sense of the life the character leads. Also I really appreciate how all the little items like teapots, bedrolls, lanterns, and trinkets reflect all the different bits of adventuring gear a typical RPG character carries around with them. Your designs are almost like visual character sheets and truly epitomize the hobby. Anyways I'm a big fan. ;) So, here's my question: Your costume designs have so many layers and details to them, how do you generally begin your design process? Do you start with a figure drawing and build it up layer by layer "dressing" the character, draw a few rough sketches first, begin by drawing a key element and work out from there, or are you so practiced at this point that you can just go for it free form? Thanks! ![]()
![]() To all those interested in the combined Magic Item article: I've sent the article in on time! ...mostly thanks to the fact that I live on the east coast, but hey it still counts. The article ended up being 1526 words long, featuring 8 magic items from 6 different writers!
It was fun working on this with all of you, after all what is Wayfinder for other then getting the community to work together on one big project. Now we must all wait and see if it actually gets accepted for print... HAPPY NEW YEARS to all us Wayfinders! ![]()

I've now received more then enough items to fill a 1500 word article, thanks to everyone who joined in! I'm currently editing everything together, and should have the article sent off in a couple hours. ![]()
![]() I'm currently at a word count of 1176 for the combined magic item article with a total of 7 items from 3 writers. If anyone else has a stray magic item they'd like to ad to our "occult thrift shop" to help fill out the 1,500 word count please send it to me via private message along with your name and email, otherwise I'll have to trim it down to a smaller 750 word article. ![]()
![]() To everyone thinking of contributing a item to the combined article I'm working on:
I'll select items to include based on how well they fit the theme, word count, and formatting. So far I have 5 items for potential inclusion. Be sure to include your name for inclusion in the final article, and email so the editors can contact you if necessary. The article will be framed around the concept of a back alley magic shop which sells all kinds of occult oddities. Just to be clear, I'm just another fan and have no idea if the final article will actually make it into the issue. ![]()

I had a similar thought. I just wrote a short introduction for "The Rose and Cauldron" a mysterious little shop down the back alleys of Caliphas. If anyone has any items they'd like to "submit to the shop" let me know! ![]()

"Items found in an attic" maybe? :p two items probably aren't enough to fill a 750 or 1500 word article, so if anyone else has any stray magic items laying around, or wants to make a quick last minute submission, feel free to chime in.

I'd be up for that. I've got a horror themed item, a porcelain doll that compels children who play with it to kill their parents. It's currently 206 words long. If you think that would fit in with your items let me know and we'll figure something out. ![]()
![]() JJ Jordan wrote: House flooded so I haven't had time to learn some fancy schmancy mapping software. I'll try to write up some haunts instead. You don't need to submit a "fancy" map just a rough one. If your article gets selected for inclusion then Tim will select an artist to clean it up and add the fancy. ;) ![]()

I very much agree with this statement. Haunts are usually pretty low on word count, so if a bunch of us wrote 1 or 2 haunts each, maybe they could be compiled into a single larger article? I had the idea for a gnarled black tree that grows over the sight of an unconsecrated burial. As well as a cursed doll, though that might work better as a item. ![]()
![]() Hi, I'm currently trying to design a monster that's incapable of moving on it's own, or making melee attacks. It's basically a small living statue that acts purely through mental actions, and spell like abilities. What I'm trying to figure out is how being immobile, and incapable of taking physical actions, would affect the creatures stats. Specifically things like AC penalties, Saves, and how it would react to combat maneuvers. There are rules for things like inanimate objects, and paralyzed creatures, but I'm unsure how to apply them to a inanimate creature like this. Also, should the creature have Str 0, Dex 0, or Str --, Dex --? The core rulebook states, "some creatures do not possess a Strength score and have no modifier at all to Strength-based skills or checks," but there's no mention of creatures lacking a Dexterity score, and as far as I know there's no example of either Str--, or Dex-- creatures in the bestiaries. So, what are your thoughts? ![]()
![]() Hi Oceanshieldwolf you contacted me a couple months ago about doing a map, but I guess that fell through on your end. Anyway I just saw Tim's post about you needing art, so I thought I'd let you know that I'm still interested. As long as my work schedule allows me to I'd be willing to contribute an illustration, or map. I don't really know the setting, but I'm happy to support the community, and it never hurts to get my work seen! Shameless plug: http://canada-guy-eh.deviantart.com/ ![]()
![]() I toyed with the idea of an "oasis monster" as well.

![]() Has anyone submitted a Bestiary entry for a Sand Elemental? I did a doodle of one earlier in the month, but when it came to stating it out I kept running in circles trying to come up with something that felt unique from the standard earth elemental. I kind of imagine it as this amorphous creature that just keeps reforming itself when you try to damage it and slowly buries you beneath the sands. I'm thinking something with regeneration, and maybe the engulf ability? It could have the spell like ability shifting sand from the advanced player's guide? If any of you with more talent, and experience, at designing monsters want to take the idea and run with it please do! Here's my doodle of it: http://fav.me/d6lt54q So if anyone wants to write it up the art's done! ;) ![]()
![]() Thanks for the replies, not quite the answers I was looking for, but entertaining nonetheless! My theory is that it has something to do with random drops. BTW I finished the image I was working on for Wayfinder #8, and sent it in earlier this week. It should be appearing beside the foreword near the front of the issue. Be sure to download Wayfinder, for free, from the paizo store. Issue #8 should be available in the next month or so. ![]()
![]() How many toes, and fingers, does a Goblin have in Golarion? Seems like a silly question, but if you look at the official art the numbers often vary. The goblins on the Bestiary's cover all have 5 toes, but then if you look at the Goblin's actual entry in the book the image there only has 4. Meanwhile in the art for the Condition Cards, and the official plush toy, the goblins only have 3 toes. Fingers also vary between 4 and 5 depending on the artist. So is there an official answer on this? Or perhaps the number of appendages vary from goblin to goblin? What are your thoughts, or explanation? And if anyone's wondering why I care so much, I'm mostly just curious, but I'm also currently working on a image for Wayfinder #8 and I'd like to make my count accurate. Considering how beloved Goblins are to the setting it would be great to get a official answer! ![]()
![]() Weapon Finesse weapons, or weapon quality! I'd like to see more one-handed and two-handed weapons that work with the Weapon Finesse feat. If you've ever seen a martial artist wielding a weapon such as a spear, staff, or dao sword then you can see how it has more to do with dexterity then strength. I was rather disappointed that none of the one/two-handed Eastern Weapons from Ultimate Combat worked with Weapon Finesse. How about something like this: Balanced Weapons
You can't add the balanced quality to a weapon after it is created; it must be crafted as a balanced weapon (see the Craft skill). The balanced quality adds 300 gp to the cost of a normal weapon. Adding the balanced quality to a double weapon costs twice the normal increase (+600 gp). I'd also like to see mundane bonuses, qualities, and upgrades for weapons and armor for use in low magic settings where the usual magical and enchanted equipment wouldn't be setting appropriate. And as said by many others consumable items like medicinal herbs, food, and drink would be welcome. |
