"If I may, we might want to eventually start a policy of planting new trees to replace the ones we needs must fell. Natural beauty as well as great works of beauty are both important. And it's always wise to keep resources for the future generations," Bydar says.

Quote:
At Bydar's suggestion, Orlog smiles. "Yes, Torag is known for protection and strategy. I, myself, was more linked to the forge side of my god, but a shrine to Torag incorporated in the watchtower would be welcome."

He smiles at that, "Something we can work on in the short term then. " A sigh, "Shelyn's own shrine can come sometime later."

"A few homes for these good folk is only fair, so I can see the inn matter. I do wonder," A thought, then "Orlog, Torag is a god of Defense among other things? Is there a possible way to dedicate the watchtower to him as a shrine as well as a defensive position? I do not mean insult, quite the opposite in fact, but thought I would ask."

I've been reading about all that kingdom building and I'm trying to get some nice excell sheets and visual aid for the book keeping.

Now, do we have any idea on the name of our future country, the alignment, and the name of the capital.

Looks like most of of lean NG with two CGs and one CN to spice things up. So right now I'm guessing, if it's the PCs who help shape the alignment most... then we may end up with CG or NG.

But that's a guess on my part.

I think Names will resolve themselves through RP. Bydar would probably like something both symbolic with meaning and lovely to the ear, but he's a bit of a sap like that :) Nothing specific comes to mind at this time. Anyone have preferences?

Also, we need to cover who will be doing what. The positions are:

Ruler: Add Cha bonus to Economy, Loyalty, or Stability

Councilor: Add Wis or Cha bonus to Loyalty

General: Add Str or Cha bonus to Stability

Grand Diplomat: Add Int or Cha bonus to Stability

High Priest: Add Wis or Cha bonus to Stability

Magister: Add Int or Cha bonus to Economy

Marshal: Add Dex or Wis bonus to Economy

Royal Assassin: Add Dex or Str bonus to Loyalty

Spymaster: Add Dex or Str bonus to Economy, Loyalty, or Stability

Treasurer: Add Int or Wis bonus to Economy

Warden: Add Str or Con bonus to Loyalty

With Orlog's stats, he could go for any of the following:
Councilor, High Priest, Marshal, Treasurer, and Warden

Bydar would love to be High Priest, but he'd make a fine councilor (also a treasurer but blah) . He's got a decent Charisma so might also fill in if need be for Grand Diplomat. He could be an okay ruler but I think Christian seems to the one most acting like (and suited towards being) a leader and Bydar recognizes that.

I think my OOC pref for Bydar is High Priest, but if Orlog wants it then I shall survive ;)

Bydar is not convinced, but he is aware of his own biases, "I fear if we continually look to be safe we'll find it keeps demanding more until we live in a fortress that shields the body but offers little else to the mind and soul. But then as a priest perhaps I am focused on matters spiritual where others see things I do not."

He's looks to the others for their opinions.

Thank you for posting that link, Bydar. I forgot to include one with my previous post. I will also add a link or two for settlement rules to the top of the page.

Also, when it comes to book keeping - keeping track of the city grid, creating a spreadsheet for the kingdom - did one of you like to handle that, or would you prefer if I kept track for you?

You're welcome. Glad I didn't overstep :o

Oh and speaking for myself (re: bookkeeping) I would prefer the GM or another player handle that so I can blame ..err credit other folks :)

Male Human Cleric 4 (HP 36/36;AC16,T11,FF15; F+5,R+2,W+7; Init +1; Perc +4){Effects:none}

Settlement Rules

"Construct your first buildings. Construct 1 building in your settlement and pay its BP cost. If this is your kingdom's first settlement, you should start with an Inn, Shrine, Monastery, or Watchtower. In addition, you may also purchase and construct 1 House, Mansion, Noble Villa, or Tenement. If your first building is an Inn, you must construct a House or Tenement next to it, as building an Inn requires an adjacent House or Tenement."

So, while I dont' know if we're going by those rules or not, the suggestions for first buildings look pretty good if we can afford them. Much as Bydar might want a huge temple to Shelyn with carvings and songbirds etc ;) more likely he'll get a shrine that's kind of got a 'blank altar' so folks can pray to what gods suit them best.

Individual Temples would come later I imagine. *le sigh*

I hope our profession and craft skills can save us a few Building Points.

Bydar will greets each of those coming in with reassurance and confidence. "Come in, it's safe. It's rough, but it is safe and far safer than many options. We'll make something grand of it. If anyone wants to join me for a blessing ceremony later, let me know."[/B]

Bydar is not the first to read the note no doubt, but when he reads or hears of it, he frowns, "Taldor makes a bid? No, more than a bid, a clear play for the area. Matters in Brevoy maybe ..conflicted, but some part of me finds this claim from a crumbled empire a touch offensive. " A look at the others, "I wonder why they didn't examine the labyrinth? "Oh it's quite real, most of the church decided long ago that staying alive was a beautiful thing usually, so basic militant training became mandatory for most clergy," He pats the glaive's haft, "Rest assured, it will cut, it will keel."

Bydar raises a brow at the counsel offered. While he agrees in theory, he is not sure he can make a silk purse of that particular sow's ear. At least not in it's original purpose of supporting people. "I meant for support, Christian." He smiles "Though it was lovely what you said and indeed within my god's teaching. In truth Bydar had his concerns about the trek, but then, it might succeed with good healers, it certainly won't without unity, "I'll want to make sure we have a few splits and maybe a litter for those whose legs are not tip top but I think if those are lacking I can work a bit tonight to make sure they're better off than they were even then."

The squatters are very reluctant to let either Bydar or Orlog near, and they shy away as though your hands were knives. However, the Shelynite's words of promise and hope seem to bridge the gap. Soon enough, they are amenable to the healers' aid, rolling up sleeves and trouser legs to expose lacerations, rashes, and foully colored scabs. Any remaining naysayers or holdouts are quickly won over at last by Christian's offer to purchase essentials on their behalf.

Bydar stays outside to tend to the wounded as they become more willing to let him help. He does cast a glance at the door where Lord Christian went through, and a nod of approval.

He's a good man, Shelyn. Look after him. Natural leaders are rare, Good men who are also natural leaders? Rarer.

Then he talks to woman who first spoke up, the one with the green mended dress and the bold if sarcastic attitude, "Driven off you say? I am sorry to hear it, but I WILL hear it if you've a mind to talk of it, and the dangers you know in this land. Worse that can happen is that if you don't talk I chatter on about my goddess as priests are wont to do."

"I quite agree. Every person has worth in my goddess' eyes, and if we should gain a bit of information as well, so much the better."

When they go out amid the crowd, Bydar frowns with concern at the green dressed woman's complaint.

Quote:
"What town?" she sneers, sarcastically gesturing to the empty, rolling plains that cradle the trading post. "Where would we go? Mivon or Pitax? Most of us would die before making it there, and anyone who did make it would probably be killed soon after. Some of us were already run out of Nivakta's Crossing, and the rest can't go back to Restov."

As he moves through, he advises the others what he notices, and begins to tend, "Here, let me tend the wounds properly. You're at risk of infection." He says to one.

And will move onto those with limps, trying to make sure he can tell the difference between sprains.. or worse.

"It's a good thing we stopped by. Some of this could have brewed into worse. Hot meals and good shelter would be ideal. I find myself strongly wishing we DID have a town in our pocket we could just throw to the ground and make entire."

"My name is Bydar, I'm a cleric of the Eternal Rose. This is Orlagg of Torag, maybe we can help tend and ease what we can."

As he looks over those allowing him to, he says "Perhaps there is a chance to make a this part of the world a bit more welcome. There is always hope for a brighter dawn. Maybe you can help us. you seem to know the lay of the land, have surely heard of troubles and threats that we might be able to stand against if we're prepared? It would be a blessing."

I am not sure how it came about but I thank the gods that we were given this opportunity. The correct mix of character, piety, tenacity, vision and a fair amount of luck is needed to form a strong foundation for which to build off of. I believe that we have all that and more.
