Academy does seem better than a museum to me as well. Who knows, eventually it might be bumped up to a magical academy, but hey :)

DM Vayelan - I know it's yet more work, but can we have a record of some of the named NPCs, even the ones not on the council to go along with the resources and so on?

Seems we're all making friends or at least contacts ICly. Bydar and Cavan, Brandt and Lira, etc.

Male Human Cleric 5 (HP 41/41;AC16,T11,FF15; F+7,R+4,W+10; Init +1; Perc +4){Effects:none}

Bydar hopes Cavan will show for the meeting, the carpenter's insights are useful.

And he shares Lord Christian's thoughts on Nanya, "I hope to talk to you later, lady when and if you are willing. There are some here hoping to talk to me about Shelyn..and there is a meeting soon where they want to ask about my goddess and what her beliefs involve. I was going to ask Master Brightshield if he wanted to join me in case some found Torag more to their liking." A nod to the honorable dwarf at that before looking to her again " If it is not too stressful , you are welcome to come there and share some of the teachings of your own goddess. I understand if you need more time."

"I know the foundations of the House and Inn were laid," Bydar says, "How much further have then gotten?"

A huge grin breaks over Bydar's features as the idol shatters and breaks "Love Conquers All."

Quote:

Watching Bydar channel the raw power of the Eternal Rose into the inimical idol, Brandt emits a low whistle, Bydar, this again, is why your songs will be sung far and wide. Shelyn's Speaker in the River Kingdoms. Let us not hope that this Prathos comes looking for you, ere you may made an enemy there. But I wouldn't be afraid, no cyclopean cleric will get past us anytime soon. I assume we are done here then?

"Aye, and thank you for waiting with me. We best catch up with the others. Brandt, I am flattered by your praise but again, this was Shelyn's work, though I suspect other goodly gods gave their blessing. I was not blind to how more than one of you prayed for Nanya's rescue. Good folk all of you."

Quote:
Looking upon the shattered idol's remaining ruby, Well, if it is no longer cursed, there is no reason not to bring this back to the fort, it looks valuable. With that Brandt scoops up the ruby and begins to make his way back to the surface, with Mr. Pink leading the way.

"A fair point. Add it to the treasury, maybe it'll help pay for a building..." And the Cleric of Shelyn picks up his pace to catch up with the others.

Male Human Cleric 5 (HP 41/41;AC16,T11,FF15; F+7,R+4,W+10; Init +1; Perc +4){Effects:none}

Bydar casts protection from Evil upon himself, "Oh Shield me, Shelyn in thy grace."

Then he holds his hand over the idol, "You who are an abomination to true faith. You who are a travesty the spirit! I call on Shelyn, who I serve with willing joy. I ask the Sacred Perfume whose priestess you wronged! I ask the gods of light ... to caste you out, Curse. I cast you out, Curse."

Bydar smiles at the hug, and the kindness shown by his compatriots. They are, one and all, good folk.

Does he see the Idol? Can he cast the second remove curse upon it?

Male Human Cleric 5 (HP 41/41;AC16,T11,FF15; F+7,R+4,W+10; Init +1; Perc +4){Effects:none}

"Oh thank the gods of good," Bydar says, "Nanya, don't touch that idol again. It is cursed. As you are now realizing I'm sure. I'm going to try to remove the curse from it directly. But first.. well, let me say it's good to meet the free you, servant of Arundhat." He inclines his head.

Male Human Cleric 5 (HP 41/41;AC16,T11,FF15; F+7,R+4,W+10; Init +1; Perc +4){Effects:none}

Bydar nods approvingly, yes, any prayer for this woman's freedom is good.

And he prays, and intones, "The Lie around the soul is a cage, the cage threatens to crush the soul. I plant the seed into the barbed bar, the Seed blooms, it does not cut the soul but it breaks the cage, the soul is freed, the soul returns to who it loves as before. One cannot cage love..."

Ah. May have missed where we had a rest and time to regain spells. My bad. Assuming that time has passed and Bydar has time to get those Remove Curse spells.

He moves quietly though not with deception and kneels next to the sleeping woman. If she sleeps, perhaps the better.

"You're all very kind, but yes. We'll save her." Bydar ponders their comments, "Could have been weakened. Regardless, it's done now." At the talk of towers, "Well, I'm hoping for a shrine to one goodly god to at least start within the season. A shrine to Torag seems very possible if we convert the old one like we hope. And Orlog could work wonders with it I'm sure," A nod to the fellow HOly man, "The tower makes sense. I suppose. A watch ful eye on the land and so on, but with the amount of curses, illnesses, and so on we keep bumping into it seems that the divine shelters are needed to. And, of course, Syretia reading of that lore means an academy may not be as far off. "

"Two," Bydar says very troubled and disappointed. "Pardon me, I had hoped it would work very much. Perhaps if I had studied the scroll more carefully, or prayed sometime before hand it might helped. Maybe."

Then he clears his throat "I can pray for it... and try twice a day."

"Father of light, Mother of protection, seal door against Reguare."

Middle Ring:
"Tyrant Zeropes, scion of Xalekti, bearer of Ilthsgar, last of Ultharan, forbids opening door. Infidels will be deprived of wisdom.

Outer Ring:
"We hold the borders of Koloran, so we hold its might and glory. Father Sun and Mother Moon shield and guide always. They give strength of stone and sharpness of bronze. May none betray them as was done in terrible Ghol-Gan."

"Amazing.." He says, "But not very helpful on HOW the door maybe opened. Assuming, after all that, we wanted to. Deprived of Wisdom is rather ominous."

Quote:
Staring in awe at the remains of what he can only assume is a library, Brandt stares at the far wall, This is unexpected, certainly. Can anyone decipher what that means on the far wall?

Bydar smiles "I can, that is, I have a spell Shelyn bestowed me that would allow it... for.. a little less than an hour I can comprehend a language I could not normally. If you folks wish me to use it now?"

Quote:
Realizing what they have uncovered in this particular cavern Brandt breathes out, This would make a great foundation for some book scholars life work. We could definitely attract some of those finer people to our settlement with this some day. Maybe even found one of those schools for magic here.

"It's possible, aye. And the River Kingdoms are not, to my knowledge, known for having many of such. Yes, I agree, this is a gift not to be squandered." He smiles "Schools lead to education, education leads to literacy, and literacy leads to appreciation of prose and poetry and more inspired to try their hand at it."

Brandt chuckles and adds, We all do our parts as we can. Every one of us has valuable talents and a good temperament for this wild land. Of course part of that is balance, Bydar wants cathedrals built to honor the gods, I'll settle for a tower to protect our people, and eventually rebuilding that fort into something more useful. Brandt points his thumb back in the general direction of where they came from.

I jest though, with all of our hopes and dreams working together we will succeed as one here. Cathedrals and keeps all together. Brandt grins at Bydar as they begin to head from the cavern.

Bydar grins back, "I'll gladly help with the tower too, though I'll probably suggest statuary that won't impede defense or at least some nice designs."

At mention of the ring.

"Swimming? Well, as you say, the River Kingdoms, it's a pragmatic bit of magic. It helps even when you swim in armor? Interesting."

Hearing Bydar's words Brandt concurs, You two did everything you could just now to try and steer her onto a better course. We should be mindful of things like this while we're exploring these ancient and terrible ruins.

"Thank you, Brandt," Indeed, the cleric is grateful for the man's understanding and support.

As they move on, he tries to focus on where they are and not the poor woman behind them.

Every room, he sees potential.... however torn down, worn down, or faded. Now he has to catch himself from going too far ahead into the future, of what might be, and not what is.

And as they withdraw further away he says softly "I just hope she doesn't take her own eye in the time it takes me to ask Shelyn for the spell. I confess, that idol's magic shakes me to the core. Magical soulbinding is not a means to true faith, but a betrayal of it"

Bydar nods respectfully to the woman, then moves to whisper to Christian, "If I can touch her, I can try to put a protection from evil upon her that might give her a chance to resist it for a few minutes. But not sure she'll be willing. We could ask her to just join us top side and I can remove the curse in the morning, but I am not comfortable bringing a soul bending idol among innocents. We can try other spells to subdue, but whatever we do I would not wish her gravely injured. She's... a victim."

Bydar's respect for Arundhat rises. I know her not, but she fights for the soul of her follower and to spare her this spiritual enslavement.
His distress, however, grows. Words alone are not going to work it seems. He tries to think on the theory of how divine energies interact, but gives Syretia a look at her suggestion, then a glance to Christian to see if he agrees to give that a try. The last thing he wants to do is step in the way of his fellows ruining their attempt to help save this woman.

Bydar is a man of strong will, and it is because of this he does not wince at some of the theological holes one could float a barge through in Christian's speech, but the intent is pure and admirable. And the message clear as well, and he seeks to aid, "It does seem Arundhat gave you comfort on the hardest part of your journey, to retrace the steps as Lord Christian suggests, perhaps you will find answers on to why you have stepped away from her so abruptly. I sense it troubles you, not knowing the whys and we are meant to question somewhat or else faith is unexamined and weaker for it."

This story causes Bydar's brows to rise just a bit higher for a moment, but he keeps his voice kindly. "A fascinating story, I thank you. Perhaps you could tell me the tenents of the two respective gods? Did you know of Prathos teachings before hand?"

Then Syretia whispers to him, and he mutters back, "Please, Tell the others as discretely as you can what you just told me. I have a protection from evil spell but I'm not sure if it will free her and even if it does it is temporary, but definitely don't need to touch that icon. His eyes look at the symbol Christian shows, "I see you followed Arundhat, I am weak on Vudra religions, but the festival of 10 thousand flowers is said to be beautiful beyond words." His tone is kind, there is a touch of confusion in his eyes but he seems to be lowering his guard a little but not entirely, "I have so many questions about your old faith, and what brought you to your newest one? but I am a talker by nature. I'm Bydar, a cleric of Shelyn. I find learning of other religions enlightening in understanding my own."

A drastic shift indeed. I do not know Arundhat well, but serpents are benevolent in her faith, and this is surely a sign of disfavor, but why has she changed to Prathos? Mad druids and cyclopi alone are his normally.
