Male Human Friar/1

Thanks for playing hope to see you all out there!!

Male Human Friar/1

Not a problem Qstor. Thanks for Dming for us. Take care and hope to see you around on the boards!

Male Human Friar/1

"Errm...Yes. Please excuse my companions...they can be very vexing at times. So, you know where the ruin is? Is it possible you might take us there, or at the very least draw me a map?"

The friar waits to see how the bandits react to the ruse.

Male Human Friar/1

Scowling at the belligerent dwarf, Friar Theodor turns to the bandit queen and smiles.

"We are in search of one of the lost shrines of the saints, blessed be their names! I was given to believe one might be located in the wilds around here...you have not, by chance, stumbled upon such a place have you?"

Male Human Friar/1

"Hello my friends. May the one god and his saints find you hale and healthy on this fine day. I am Brother Theodor, a friar of the Mendicant Order of Saint Keye the Chronicler. My friends and I are simply passing this way and ask humbly for your permission to continue onwards."

Male Human Friar/1

The friar gives the rest of the party a stern looks as they seem to simply accept this heathen among them.

"God under the Mountain indeed....may the One God and his Saints take pity on your lost soul!"

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theodor looks over the dwarf and sneers as he sees the pagan talisman displayed so prominently.

I do not think we should have anything to do with this infidel! Begon pagan and take your unholy devil worship with you!"

The Friar holds out his wooden cross and speaks several line from the Holy Book in his hand.

Male Human Friar/1

"Come now, let us get moving and find these bandits..we can look into Raff's inheritance once this distasteful duty is completed."

Male Human Friar/1

Theodor begins to turn on Raff with a few choice words, but stops and gives the man an embarrassed smile.

"Yeah...I cannot abide people treating others in such a fashion...it's why I left the cloister to become a friar!"

He looks a little startled that he said so much and tried to cover his error with bluster!

"Now then, let's not just lolly-gag about! Let's get to it...this bandit will not capture itself!"

Male Human Friar/1

The friar looks over at the young knight, then down to the ground before he replies.

" Under most circumstances you are correct, thievery should not be tolerated, but occasionally it is a symptom of a larger problem."

He looks to say more, but stops himself.

Brother Theodor takes a deep breath and nods to the others.

"Yes, let's go hunting for these bandits...anything to get the stink of that long-horn Breggle out of my nose."

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theodor can be heard muttering in Liturgic. While most do not understand what is being said, the tone leaves no doubt!

"Parvus ille animo, caper nothus! Quomodo audet de suis sic agere."

He takes a moment to calm down, then looks sharply at Raff.

"Keep a civil tongue in your mouth or you might find yourself on the wrong side of a church inquisitor!"

The friar takes a deep breath and then turns back to the young man.

"Appoligies Rafferty. I am sorry for losing my temper but that..that..goat pays lip service to the church and feels he can get away with beating his servants and ordering us around! I swear I don't know how you can stomach it!"

Male Human Friar/1

"Yes...let us leave!"
The Brother seems to be barely keeping his anger in check as the group leaves the goat-lord's home.

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theodor accepts the snub by the goat-noble and folds his hands into the wide sleeves of his habit.

Male Human Friar/1

Before anyone else can speak, Brother Theodor steps forward.

"Good day to you my lord. May I ask, are you a pious man? Do you follow the tenants of Father Church within your realm?" He waits to see the goat-man's reaction and response.

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theodor looks around the room for any signs of this goat-man's piety. He wonders if this noble follows Father Church, or rather is a heathen.

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theodor shakes his head at Raff's clumsy attempt to get past the guards. He waits quietly to see how this brash technique turns out!

Male Human Friar/1

"Well I best come along to make sure you all don't get into too much trouble!"

The priest gathers up his robes and readies himself to leave.

" And, of course, your tithe to the church. One must not forget to honour Pater Ecclesia. Prayers will be said for the recently deceased in your name, thus speeding your ancestor to his ultimate glory and showing your own humble compliance to church doctrine."

The brother sits back with a slight smile on his face...just waiting to see what his 'friend' has to say about this!

Male Human Friar/1

Clearing his throat, Brother Theodor speaks.

"Well I suppose I can not let you go off alone. I would never forgive myself if your impulsiveness got you killed. What say, you squire? Interested in an adventure?"

Male Human Friar/1

The friar settles down to eat his breakfast and listens to the newcomer's story about the large red worms.

Theo looks over to Raff and nods his head.

"That sounds wonderful! I will have the same, and as your penance for last night, you can pay for breakfast for us all as a tithe to the church for the praying I am going to have to do to remove this recent stain upon your immortal soul!

Brother Theodor takes his wooden holy symbol out and begins to pray for Raff and earnestly asks forgiveness for his sinful ways.

Male Human Friar/1

The friar turns towards the inn, but a slight smile can be seen creasing his lips.

"Ah Rafferty Evenhand...one day your antics will catch up with you and I will not be there to help unburden your soul!"

He heads into the Inn with the others and sighs as he sits down.

Male Human Friar/1

"Ah, greetings Squire...Raff. Are you heading to the church to let one of the priests hear your confessions, Raff?? Such sins need to be cleaned as soon as possible, lest their moral cancer eats into your immortal soul! Would you not agree Squire Yennifer?"

The friar looks disapprovingly at the shifty man.

Male Human Friar/1

me too...so no worries!!!

I was looking around for an image of the holy symbol of the One True God, but could not locate one. Therefore, I propose the following...

Clavis Cross

the key at the bottom is specific to the Clavists, or the Mendicant Order of Saint Keye the Chronicler. I would propose that all the sects use the main symbol and then have their group's specific emblem placed somewhere within the cross.

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theodor steps out from the ornate doorway of the Church of St. Pastery. Having given his tithe to the priests caring for the church, he stands looking over the Market Square. His dull grey serge frock with its black hooded scapular and grey rope cincture denotes him as a Clavists, or a member of the Mendicant Order of Saint Keye the Chronicler, also known as Grey Friars. A small pack and walking staff round out the man's goods. He is a tall, gaunt man in his middle years with a slight stoop. The tonsure on his head is almost invisible due to his hair loss and its very pale straw-yellow colour. His skin is a ruddy colour of a person who spends most of their time out of doors and his face is clean-shaved.

Male Human Friar/1

I was wondering if it would be ok if I created a new order using one of the existing saints.

It would be known as the Clavists, or the Mendicant Order of Saint Keye the Chronicler. They are a small (minor) order who tracks down lost or missing historical information or artifacts. They are history buffs and relic retrievers for the church.

OK...here is some of the basic info for my submission...this is Daniel!!

Male Human Friar/1

"Indeed, let us be off. The sooner we can figure this out the sooner we can be rid of those evil artifacts!"

The priest checks his gear before the group heads out.

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theodor nods thoughtfully at the suggestion of visiting the library at the keep. He also is happy that Heroiel has brought up the responsibility of keeping the artifacts safe.

"We will try to be a quick as we can, but as you can see anyone in contact with these cursed items is a target. I do not like the idea of making trouble for your order, but we simply cannot continue to carry these items with us and have any hope in discerning how to destroy them. I hope you understand."

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theodor removes the two items from his robes and places them on the table.

"Here are the dagger and ring. The gauntlet was still part of the creature."

He explains what they found and how the gauntlet was not small enough to take.

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theodor steps forward and shows his holy symbol and the letter from the Canon.

"It is urgent we are admitted to your fortress immediately. We were already attacked on our way here by the degenerated followers of Spiragos! Please allow us sanctuary and tell your commander we are here!"

Theodor keeps looking around trying to see if anyone had followed them.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Male Human Friar/1

"Well if you feel fit enough to run, then let's go. I do not wish to run into any more followers of Spiragos!'

Brother Theodor begins to jog in the direction of the chapterhouse.

Male Human Friar/1

Djal, come here and let me heal your wound before it gets fouled by these evil creatures.

Calling upon Madriel's powers, the priest cures his friend's wounds. Once done, he cleans and wraps the wound.

Cure Wounds(2nd Level): 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 5) + 4 = 10
Healing Feat: 1d6 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 4 = 9

"Now then, anyone else injured and needing my assistance?"

Male Human Friar/1

With the two halflings dead at his feet, Brother Theodor moves forward to help Djal.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

SW: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theo takes a short step back from the onslaught of the evil halflings. He re-adjusts his shield and hefts his spear, stabbing at the little cultists. At the same time, he calls upon his god to help him battle these enemies (Spiritual weapon - bonus action) A ghostly spear appears behind Bloody and strikes at him.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

SW Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
SW Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theodor moves towards the alley as well, trying to stay away from the people crowding the plaza. He warily enters the alley and looks around.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Male Human Friar/1

Gathering up the artifacts before he leaves, Theodor receives a quick benediction from the Curate before joining the others outside. He notices Djal talking to Sister Bernice and smiles to himself. The order is not a celibate one, but few of the Brothers or Sisters marry as this would take them away from their primary duties.

"Ok, well I think we should head straight to the Knights and see if they can help us with this burden."

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theodor is stunned. He has heard the stories of the Curate and this spear. He knows it holds potent magic and perhaps is even touched with the essence of Madriel.

"Your Grace...I do not know what to say! You honour me with such a gift and I shall endeavour to be worthy of such a weapon!"

He reaches for the spear and is a little surprised that it does not burst into light or something as he holds it. In fact, it feels much like his old spear...maybe a little better balanced and lighter, but nothing mystical or spiritual occurs with his handling the weapon. Still, he is overwhelmed with the gift and falls to his knees and thanks Madriel for watching over him and this group.

Super awesome...thanks!!!

Male Human Friar/1

"Your Grace. Would you also be able to write us a letter of introduction to the Commander? As well, please keep any monies that I would have garnered from this mission, I wish to tithe it back to the church."

Male Human Friar/1

Reaching into his pouch, Brother Theodor removes the ring they found.

"Here is the ring. As for the Gauntlet, well that is another story."

The young priest relates all that has happened to him since leaving the church. He explains how the Gauntlet and Spiragos' arm bones essentially are the Chasm of Flies.

Male Human Friar/1

Ok, before I make Theodor's next message that I have the facts right.

The Gauntlet was the cave we were in...right. As for the ring, do I have that?? I cannot remember if someone else was carrying it or if I did...I think I did, but just want to make sure...lol

Male Human Friar/1

"It was your grace." and Theodor removes the dagger from his pack and sets in on the Deacon's desk.

Male Human Friar/1
Quote:
"Brother Theodor! It is wonderful to see you returned safely!"

"Thank you Sister Bernice. I am happy to be back. Can you tell me where the Curate might be found? I need to report to him right away!"

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theodor also hugs Lhienne and give her a blessing.

"Be safe and may the Redeemer ease your way."

Once the farewells have been said, Brother Theodor, now with the dagger in his position, heads home, to the church of the Redeemer.

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theodor smiles as Djal takes over the negotiations and pummels the poor clerk into submission.

"Well that sounds a little better. Here you are, 50gp for me and my group. Now, if you will let us pass we will be on our way!"

Theo intends to inform the church as well...and makes sure he gets the man's name before he leaves

Male Human Friar/1

"Ah, ok. Now that is for my entire group, correct?"

He keeps his eyes on the scribe.
