Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Lanius takes a few steps back, spinning the turbines in his jetpack in case they try and rush him. He would beat them to it, were that the case.

Readying an action: If they advance to about five metres away without Raziel showing up, activate wings of the angel and charge the closest one.

Readied rolls:

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Hearing the squad's plight over the vox, Lanius activates his jump-pack and eases himself down carefully, using the pack's extended flight mode briefly, if necessary.

"Servitors, stand down. We shall present our identification key." he said, remembering the talisman Raziel had received. "Stand and prepare to identify."

He hoped that would get him enough time for Raziel; he readies his chainsword in case.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

I didn't get a PM, some kinda error on my account.

Lanius heads into the shadows and follows Raziel, dropping out of his squad spacing to provide cover from above.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Ah, the suprise round. Sorry for missing that! Right.

Lanius eyes off the horde's shots and sees them firing their strange bio-weapons into his comrades. But ignoring him would be a mistake.

Not really trying to aim, he fires the flamer again at the mass.

Entering squad mode! Assuming cohesion is at 7. If not, won't enter squad mode.
Cohesion 7 Challenge: 1d10 ⇒ 3

Lanius glances at the oncoming horde and moves into a better position for the squad, covering their flank in order to get a good enfilading shot on the gaunts.

Satisfied once he's in a useful position (and feeling little unnatural not acting solo for the first time thus far), he hefts his so-far reliable flamer and empties it into the horde. [5/6 left in current clip]

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Brother Lanius pulled his eyes off the charm in Raziel's hand. He'd been keen to stay quiet when interacting with the civilian; Raven Guard are not known for being friendly at the best of times.

He looks down at his armour, confused. "Do I, brother Raziel?" he asks, frowning under his helmet.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Lanius slots a fresh fuel cannister into his flamer, keeping the nearly empty one just in case.

"Civilian." he called over the coms. "Doesn't... look like a magos." he says, glancing the man up and down for cybernetic implants.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

The Raven Guard turns to the door, keeping his weapons low. "Careful. Tyranids don't open doors; they go through them.

Ignoring the gunfire in the background, Lanius moves towards the door. "Magos?"

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Righteous fury and hordes. How do they even work?

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

"Negative. Threat minimal thus far."

Lanius swoops down from his post, laying into the foe with whirling blades, trying to emulate Raziel's example.

Lanius revs his own chainsword and prepares to leap down to attack.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Lanius scouts about the rest of the roof. Then he'll take an entrance down into the main building, or make one if necessary.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Preception 65: 1d100 ⇒ 91 Yup.Most be those optics.

What sort of things can I see here, and where can I on whilst still staying high?

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Following the Blood Angel, Lanius activates his own jet pack, but takes up position on top of the station, hoping to descend down on any who would obstruct his comrade's advanced.

Perception 65: 1d100 ⇒ 93 Nope

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Brother Lanius steps back forward, a tube of armour cement patching up whatever gashes had appeared in his armor for the mauling the horde had delivered to him.

"We should lead. They should hide." He offered, looking at the determined, but ragged remnants of the Guard. Some of his own kind in the Raven Guard would have congratulated him on taking advantage of their firefight to deliver the killing blow, but Lanius wasn't certain his own intervention had been too helpful.

"Time critical. Recommend Raziel and myself check flanks while rest enter location two. Need suitable extraction point too."

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Ah, right. Yup, down to 7. Ah the face. I might pull back for a turn before that becomes fatal.

Brother Lanius snarls as the gaunts rip at his armour, leaving long slashes in his Armour and perhaps more importantly, his chest.

As quick as possible he takes to the air, leaping right next to the medic and lifting his flamer at the ready. "Method unsustainable. Attempting alternative." he explained, eyeing Raziel's more damaging descent.

Full action disengage and move to Quintus.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

My bad, will try again! Not that it matters quite so much with this only doing one damage anyway.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

No internet at new house yet, so posting's where I can get it.

"Stay." Lanius called simply to the guards, revving his chainsword and taking a moment to size up the hordes bearing down upon them. "But keep firing."

With those few words he activated his jump pack once more, diving into the closest horde with the Emperor's wrath coursing through his veins.

Present

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

The anvil and hammer was a simple tactic practiced extensively by the Raven Guard, although they often put their allies in the place of the anvil without telling them, which didn't make them overly popular with others.

But in this case, the anvil would not hold. Lanius resolved to place himself between the Tyrannids and the Guardsmen, bolstering the attack from that side.

Wings of Angels-62: 1d100 ⇒ 38

Lanius takes the run action and activates his jump pack and wings of angels, moving 104 metres and putting himself as close to the guard lines as possible, in front of the charging beast if possible

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Initiative: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

That roll probably puts me first. I'm thinking I should put myself between the nids and the injured guardsmen, and work my way forward from there.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Awareness 65: 1d100 ⇒ 4 6 degrees of success

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Most of this world is already in ruins. I can understand now why this enemy is named the great Devourer.

Brother Lanius took up positions once again on the flank, and started heading towards the bunkhouse, slipping into the shadows. There were still uncleared positions behind him, which bothered him no end, but this was a mission on the clock- perfect sweeping techniques could wait.

Silent Move 72: 1d100 ⇒ 98

Master of Shadows solo ability gives reroll to silent move

Silent Move 72: 1d100 ⇒ 39 3 degrees

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Tracking -10 =32: 1d100 ⇒ 3 2 degrees of success.

Lanius was still absorbing Quintus's advice as Brother Solar's suggestion came through. He paused to point out the correct tracks for his brethren, and made sure they could follow the logic behind it.

Then he looked south, towards the other structure and east to the coms uplink, which supposedly had a pair of servitors guarding it.
"Need a defensible extraction point."

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Lanius watched the apothecary, and nodded solemnly at his words. Brother Quintus's wisdom and experience would prove vital in this mission. He knew also that the Ultramarines had more reason than many others to hate these Xenos, with the loss of their entire first company on Macragge.

"What makes them most dangerous?" he asked, tracking the conversations between his other comrades inside as well.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Ominous words.

Brother Lanius stood outside next to the Apothecary, taking a few moments to commit the fight to memory, as many of his Raven brothers tended to do. Raziel's commitment to the fight may have been unwise against larger foes, but against these smaller creatures hardly mattered. Lanius was still adapting to the deathwatch, and the methods of the other chapters were foreign planets to him. He'd have to work on that.

"I have not fought these before." he said to the brother, tapping a gaunt skull with his foot. "You have."

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

If it is my turn, I spend it with the disengage action, taking a half move to land next to Brother Raziel

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

If you delay until immediately after me, I'll disengage and let the bolter fire cut these guys down.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Please don't shoot me in the back of the head. Heads are hard to replace.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

I can't see Lanius waiting for the second one to start dodging, as much as I might wish it.

The flamer hadn't worked quite as well as Lanius had planned. Still, he had his faith and more importantly his chainsword, which was all the Raven Guard needed.

Lanius easily stepped aside the careless swipes of two of the foul beasts, and glanced to see a third charging right at him.

Dodge - 62: 1d100 ⇒ 3

Waiting until the creature was almost upon him, with ease he ducked under the razor sharp claws, and stood back up, chainsword whirring.

With a grunt he suddenly located the fourth of the beasts, which had just sliced a neat line along his ribs. Lanius's lighter armor hadn't been able to fully withstand the blow, and though Lanius felt no pain, he could feel the creatures toxins flowing into him.

53 hits the body of AP 9, soaking up 6 damage. The remaining 3 is absorbed by the toughness.

If you need a test vs toxic, here it is.
Toughness -40+10(Bio monitors and injectors) +10 (Unnatural toughness bonus} =60: 1d100 ⇒ 54

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Confident that Brother Raziel could deal with the remaining beast, Lanius activated his jump pack again, landing in front of the other pack of beasts with practised ease, his flamer tracing a bead on the lead creature.

Once more he pulled the trigger, liberally dousing the area.

Lanius moves as close as possible to the other group. As dodging AoE effects like the flamer requires them to be able to move their AB bonus in metres, the closer the better- though they still get base agility either way. Rolled for damage below, to cut down on wait time for more rolls

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

"Contact. Eight hormagaunts."

Lanius raised his flamer in his left and pulled at the trigger, bathing the closer group of monsters in thick gouts of intensely hot flame.

Without waiting to see the results, he moved towards them, chainsword growling angrily.

Hormagaunts test agility here- Lanius doesn't roll to hit. If they fail their first save, they take damage, and take a second agility save to not catch fire.

Damage: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 11 Energy damage at pen 4 if they fail their roll.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Awareness =65: 1d100 ⇒ 58 A regular success

Initiative +6: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Chainsword or a krak grenade? Lanius wondered, looking at the thick door and trying to work out how they could break through it if no response came. The krak would be faster, but louder. Either way forcing the door would ruin most of the defensive qualities of the place.

Either way he held little hope for finding any of the Emperor's allies inside. There would be far more tyranids outside if that were so.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Is this supposed to be an awareness test, or just flat perception? If the latter, then my results change to fail by four/pass by two, and if the former, then Raziel should be adding his heightened senses to this his roll and probably passing both.

Stupid overlapping skill/stat names.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Perception 65-10=55: 1d100 ⇒ 86

Perception 65+0: 1d100 ⇒ 15

I'm assuming this perception test is allows the space marine heightened senses to come in. First result is an incredible three degrees of failure, the second is five degrees of success.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Returning the nod, Lanius activated his jump pack and leapt away, hoping that Raziel would shortly follow.

The security bunker would be the first point of call- it was too close to their comrade's intended path to be left until later.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

A quiet, clear note sounded in the marines' helmets as Brother Lanius flagged the Comms Uplink and the Security Bunker and the larger building south of the crash site as points of interest.

Stepping out of the shadows to join the rest of the squad, he took a moment to consider what he was going to say. A frown creased his brow as he found no easy way to explain it in five words or less. Still.

"Raziel and I will recon. Rendezvous at crash site."

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

I'd rather not leave anything unpleasant behind us, and we'll need a suitable defensive point for extraction in either case.

I'll follow Solar's advice and check out the unnamed building. Any other points of interest can be scouted out once we find the Magos. If Raziel wants to come along, that would be wonderful. I'd prefer not to get ambushed alone.

Edit after solar posted: Good plan. We've got plenty of move to spare.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Checking his weapons more out of familiarity than any real necessity, Lanius took up position opposite brother Raziel, so that the pair of them were taking the flanks.

Lanius's steps were careful and silent, belying the heavy nature of his armor completely.
Move Silently: 1d100 ⇒ 52 Comparing to 72, 20 lower. So one degree of success? More just a desire to throw dice here. I don't expect the rest of us to try stealth here.

Flamer in his left and chainsword in his left, he looked to Brother Solar. Between him and Quintus, Lanius had full confidence in their experience.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Req costs:
Raziel: Hand Flamer (10)
Lanius: Flamer (10)
Quintus: Metal storm rounds (15)
Calculus: Combi-tool (15)
Solar: Missile Launcher (10)

That's 60/110 there. I think Calculus's call for an auspex is a good idea too, which would put us on 72/110, with the Librarian and Devastator yet to use points. Depending on what we have left after that, we may want to look at additional missiles for Solar, or a diagnostor helm for Quintus.

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

So much equipment, so little respect to use it. Just using 10 req.

Lanius closed his book and stood up, tucking it under his arm and taking a moment of contemplation to recall all he knew about fighting tyranids. Melee was his preferred style, but against countless hordes might be trickier.

"Flamer. Will suffice."

Bolt pistol clips: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 x2=10 (If I use even one of these clips something has gone wrong.)
Flamer fuel tanks: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Raven Guard Assault Marine 18/23

Seems like a sensible list, Solar. I'll swap you that 10 for my 15 though, I'm not needing much at all.

Also clearly I should be leader. I have an amazing -10 to command. On the basis of making and spending xp in that general direction though, I think Brother Solar should be leader this mission.
