Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

Should I kick in the door and give them ladies some excitement before they go meet their demon-lord? Searok asks hopefully.

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

@GM Fuzzfoot: Yes - Keep me in mind as a replacement character!

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I hope I am not too late to the party...

Questons:

Why do you want to be considered? I have been recently watching a lot of Bob Hope comedy movies from the 40's along with a lot of the movies mentioned.

Which role do you want to submit for? Mage

What would your basic crunch approach be (class, feats/weapons, etc). You won’t be locked into this - but just to get an idea of what you are thinking. Just want to know how you are going to make this yours.

I was thinking of a magician who got their start in vaudeville and is collecting magical tricks and oddities. Maybe some of the pathfinder spells could be chalked up to props, sleight of hand and hypnotism i.e. charm person, 'create' food & water. etc. If you do incorporate actual magic items into the mix, it could be some thing as simple as that cheap wand he bought at the run-down magic store is the real deal.

2e or 1e? Is your choice a preference or a deal breaker? 1e & not a deal breaker if not.

AP or small adventures? Or other ideas? AP's. Mummy's Mask would be perfect.

Describe your character - what do you look like, what’s your personality? How would someone else describe your character?

I can see him as a Professor Hinkle from Frosty the Snowman type character. Some tricks and props work while others he is always refining. He is the type of magician that whenever he meets someone new will 'pull' a coin out of their ear.

My group is currently fighting a pack of perytons which have flyby attack. If a peryton attacks a member of the party using its flyby attack that is surrounded by his allies, do the allies get an AOO and then can use a readied attack?

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I have a player that is using entangle against yellow musk zombies which have the plant traits. Would entangle work?

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Hi Diego,

It showed up today! Thanks for looking into it!

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Hi,

I have not received this order yet and it was shipped out over a week ago.

Thanks!

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Thank you so much!

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Hi,

I never received order #3926116. The tracking number has it as being transferred to the PO in Windsor, CT. I live in Fishkill, NY which is nowhere near Windsor. I have been asking my local PO where is it and I just keep getting shrugs. Is there any way to get a replacement sent out?

Thanks,
Rich

Looks like you definitely have some interest!

I first started playing D&D because a buddy of mine needed an extra person to play in Return to The Temple of Elemental Evil. I always wanted to play the original TOEE since then.

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Thank you Diego! How do I return the cards?

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I was supposed to receive the Pathfinder Pawns: Monster Codex Box today as part of my Pathfinder Pawns subscription, but instead I received Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Wrath of the Righteous - The Midnight Isles.

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

My Inquisitor just got his first Mythic tier, and looking over the mythic feats, I am surprised there are not any Inquisitor specific feats like Mythic Favored Judgment or Mythic Judgment Surge? Am I missing it somewhere?

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

I am definitely still interested...

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Thank you so much, Sharaya! I was all set to go down to the PO and complain, but without the 'Do Not Bend' I can see how that would go down. Ed is probably correct and it wouldn't have mattered, but you never know...

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I just got my latest AP (GiantSlayer #3) and I noticed that the package did not have 'Do Not Bend' stamped on it. Needless to say, My mail carrier bent it and shoved it into my mailbox along with all the mail accumulated due to the long holiday weekend. Are packages no longer stamped 'Do Not Bend'? If the answer is no, can they be?

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

I have some feelers out, but no bites yet....

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

I'm up for whatever you decide!

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

Oh I bet Sloade can make him yell! :)

Ouch! Forget the officers trying to kill him, now his fellow recruits too? Hmmm we might have to work paranoia into Sloade's build! :)

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

Welcome Zayne!

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

Whoo Hoo!

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

Yeah, I think diplomacy checks will be lost on our group!

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

Hi All,

I have created a DM Alias and opened a new campaign thread:

DM RichD's Council of Thieves

So feel free to start posting!

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

I found a replacement Mage, still waiting on the fighter. Hopefully they get the aliases working soon so I can start a new campaign thread. I have sent a request to get this switched to me so I can mark it as inactive and it will no longer show up under your campaigns. In the meantime I am reading through CoT and coming up with a lot of ideas. insert evil GM laugh here!

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

Spiked Gaunlet? hmmmmm....

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

Melasoul, Thank you so much for reviewing this and all of your suggestions were spot on. As you can see from below, you figured out where I wanted to go with this character.

Melasoul said wrote:
You should get profession as a class skill. Every class except Barbarian does.

That makes sense. I have made the update.

Melasoul said wrote:
You should also get at least one knowledge, probably two. I'd probably put engineering and history.

That also sounds good too.

Melasoul said wrote:

Armored swiftness is odd. You already have armor training, but you didn't copy all of the text from the fighter version, which already has this line:

In addition, a fighter can also move at his normal speed while wearing medium armor. At 7th level, a fighter can move at his normal speed while wearing heavy armor.
So it seems like armored swiftness's only use is to reduce your speed penalty while wearing heavy armor for level 3-6. Unless you meant to leave that line off of armor training, but then you never get full speed while wearing armor.
What were you ultimately wanting out of that?

I basically eventually wanted to move my full speed while wearing heavy armor. Not sure why I omitted that line, but I added it back in. I omitted armored swiftness.

Melasoul said wrote:
The uncanny dodge abilities seem odd for an armored hulk. I'd swap them for the Fortification ability from the Armor Master Fighter Archetype. Basically, it gives you Light Fortification, and eventually Medium Fortification, while wearing armor.

I was going with the idea of not being flanked, but I think the fortification would work better and be more realistic then someone wearing heavy armor not being flanked.

Melasoul said wrote:
Weapon Training: This is oddly specific. Looking at existing fighter archetypes, I'd go with the close combatant ability from the Brawler. In this case that would mean getting weapon training with 'Close Weapons' (see Ultimate Combat) and give a +1 to hit and a +3 to damage. This increases until it reaches +5 to hit and +7 damage. .

This sounds exactly what I was going after as long as armor spikes are considered close weapons (I assume that is any melee weapon that doe not have a reach?)

Melasoul said wrote:
Damage Reduction: This isn't a bad idea, but the Unarmed Fighter Archetype has something that seems more thematic called "Tough Guy" that I've changed slightly and renamed Toughness. I also modified Armor Mastery to be more in line with that new ability.

Sounds perfect!

I have updated the link with all of your suggestions.

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

Sounds good! I am waiting for the aliases to be fixed so I can set up a GM one. When I do start the 'new' campaign, did you want me to start where this one left off, reset a few posts back, or start new?

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

Looks like its time to open recruitment back up! I will start PM'ing some of the martial and arcane submissions...

@Briccone

Blonebandit and I created our own custom classes (you can find a link to them on our character page). From the way you talked I wasn't sure if you made your own class or are just taking one of the existing fighter archetypes.

I see now!

Here it is:

Armor-Fighter

Let me know what you think.

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

It looks like there hasn't been much activity on Cato and Litania's aliases. Shall we give them till Monday and then open it back up?

I am looking forward to guiding you through the streets of Westcrown! Thank you for having me!

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

@Aku: Take your time. RL always come first.

Sloade will continue to wander the streets :)

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

@Melasoul-I am not sure what you mean by class build. Is there one I can look at for an example?

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I might be interested.

A little bit about me...

I have just finished GM'ing a tabletop game of Serpent's Skull so this will be my second time as a GM and my first as an online GM so I would need some patience :)

My DM style:

1. This is your game. If there is something that you don't like, let me know. My enjoyment as a GM comes from your enjoyment as players.

2. I admit that I am far from being a rules expert so if there is something you disagree with feel free to post about it in the discussion thread.

3. One downside is that I've spent 14 years as a player, so I still have a 'Player's mentality' when I am playing the 'Bad Guys' which some of my PC's have found for challenging combats. I require max hit points @ each level to help you all compensate.

4. I would like one post a day, but totally understand when RL comes first (as it should).

5. For combats, I would like everyone to post and not wait until the person who is ahead of you in the initiative order to post. If you are last in Initiative and you have an opportunity to post your attack role first, by all means go ahead and do it. Maybe the bad guy will still be alive when it gets to be your 'turn' maybe he won't, but at least no one is waiting and combats drag on forever. (I am playing in 2 PBP's where this is done and it works out quite nicely.)

Let me know if you all have any questions for me and/or if I am "hired".

To get a sense of my RPing, check out these 2 PBP's I am in:

Jade Regent-Gundar

Wrath of the Righteous-Hyram

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

@Melasoul: It is one I made up myself and is very much a work in progress so feel free with suggestions!

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

Here is what I am thinking for my stats. What do you all think?

Str 17
Dex 13
Con 15
Int 10
Wis 12
Cha 13

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

I am half-way through the backstory. Basically he is going to forgo a weapon and instead have spikes on his armor. I think it might be interesting to have a charachter that really likes to get close and personal, so I want to make sure my grapple, CMB and CMD's are good. I have preliminary stats which I can post tonight to get some feedback on.

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

@Aku: What is our starting gold?

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

I'm still interested. I have off next week so I hope to take all these ideas that are floating around in my head and finally commit them to paper. I think my guy will use his armor as his main weapon. I am thinking he was a blacksmith apprentice that was 'recruited' after his master's smithy was destroyed. If anyone is interested in tying back stories, I'm game.

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

I agree with level 1 also. As new recruits we could be given routine tasks that don't end up being so 'routine'!

I remember making a Battlerager class for 3.0. Then they actually made a prestige class for it in the Faerun books.

Have you checked out the Armored Hulk Barbarian Archetype?

That is almost exactly what I am looking for. Now to just add some tweaks to it! Thanks Melasoul!

By the way, starting this Sunday 9/21 to Sunday 09/28, I will be on a cruise to Bermuda with my wife as we celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary on 9/25. Needless to say, I won’t have any internet connection (the cruise ship charges too much and it’s nice to unplug for a while), so I might have to do this when I get back. I haven’t packed yet and my wife is starting to give me the ‘evil eye’!

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

OK. I have finally finished reading all the posts in the discussion thread. Wow! This is gonna be fun! On a personal note, the only gaming systems I have played D&D 3.0 & 3.5 and Pathfinder, so I am not familiar with other systems.
As for my character, there has been a concept that I have been kicking around for a while and I think this would be the perfect campaign for it (if it fits with everyone else’s characters). I have read most of the R.A. Salvatore Drizzt books and I have always been fascinated with the battleragers . Basically a barbarian, but instead of the light armor, fast movement, etc., I picture a guy with the temperament of a barbarian i.e. rage, but heavily armored. I can see him in heavy, spiked armor and instead of carrying a weapon, his armor is his weapon. He will grapple the enemy using the spikes on his armor for damage. I haven’t started stating him up yet, but I wanted to run it by you all to get your thoughts.

Base Class: Barbarian
Switch out Fast Movement for heavy armor proficiency
Switch out Uncanny Dodge for the Magic Weapon spell
Switch out Improved Uncanny Dodge for the Greater Magic Weapon spell

The God part is a joke.

a god you say? hmmm....might have to come up with something like this for my character:

Puny god

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

Nope! I'm still here! Still going through the discussion thread. I finished reading the gameplay thread, but it has been crazy both at work and home.

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

Dot

Male Human Mostly Commoner 51

Thanks for the invite! I just wanted to do a quick post to say that I'm here and will read over this discussion thread at home since it is a lot to take in and the boss frowns on doing it at work! :) I look forward to adventuring with you all.

Thank you all for your input! Some of them have already read the player's guide, but are looking for "real campaign" advice.

I will be running RoW after my current campaign and my players are already asking what are the best classes to play. Without giving spoilers (as I want to direct my players to this thread), what have you found to be the most useful or useless classes for this campaign? I currently have four players.

Ropers can extend up to six sticky strands from its body at a time and they can be severed with any amount of slashing damage.

Is a Roper limited to 6 strands or can they continuously replenish severed strands?

BUMP

I have the same question. If all six strands are severed, does the Roper not get any more strands?

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

You realize that since you did this, the AP writers are going to throw in the one-offs! :)

Great job and it has helped me pick my next few languages for my bard!
