It was three hours after the start of the day that we found the painted crossed swords, and our efforts at caution "quickly" paid off, so it's likely we'd be more in line for a midday meal than camping for the night. Brennadara would be fine sharing that meal with Seldra should we choose to have it now. The only Voretti that's still here is Seldra, the rest having taken Dewert with them somewhere else (likely back to their home?) She speaks common well enough, so if Elinil wants to negotiate selling weapons back he can likely do it himself. Brennadara will be uninterested in negotiating it if asked. Stopping to clap Kazmukh on the shoulder for his victory, Brennadara then watches Anri procure the Voretti's weapons without comment. Before she has a chance to offer to look at Dewert's wounds the rest of the Voretti trundle him off into the woods, but as she saw the fight she isn't particularly worried that she's letting anything too serious away untended. At Seldra's words about wanting to avoid war Brennadara nods. "It is good to meet you Seldra, my name is Brennadara. Since you are fluent in the language of the kingdom I will use that, so that all here my understand what is said. I thank you for your leadership in that encounter. "I agree that war between the Voretti and Yggsdreth would be good for neither side, yes. As I said before the contest of champions I would like to work with you to secure your territory from outside threats. If you are willing to send a delegate to Yggsdreth or host one in your lands I would offer to speak for your people's case. I'm not dimplomat, but will pledge to do what I can to help should you seek an alliance, trade pact, or non-aggression agreement with the Kingdom. Should you want me to do so, this would have to take place after our current mission, but that might give you some time to talk with your people to see what their interests are."

Brennadara speaks less quickly, addressing Elinil, but now aware that the Voretti leader at least can understand what is said. "I agree with the long term goal there, but I don't know if this band of warriors, brave and capable though they are, would have the authority among their people to make such a commitment. Should Kazmuhk best their champion I hope that we can seek to speak to either speak to the leader of their people about the possibility directly or ask them to pass on such a message on our behalf."

Brennadara nods her approval to the proposal to her companions, but lets them make the decision. Not actually having weapons, I don't feel that Brennadara should be the one to accept a possible contest that would cause use to lose them (should we honor the results.)

Brennadara gives a slight shrug in Elinil's direction, keeping her attention on the Voretti's speaker. "I don't think that I have anything else I can honestly offer them at this point. I will not offend them by making an offer that I would not be able to try to keep. I would like to give their leader a chance to respond, but you should use your judgment as to the correct action."

"Whether they are currently recognized as sovereign or not, they are legitimate inhabitants of the Narlsmarches. If we can coexist with them it is my goal to make that happen and push for that in the kingdom. If Yggsdreth is going to have legitimacy in the region as something other than a conquering nation which pushes everything other than itself out it will need to treat with peoples such as these. This is one of the reasons I'm working for them at all." "But this is largely a philosophical discussion for later I suspect."

Brennadara nods at the first two statements as they are most likely true, but frowns as the Voretti finishes her offer. She then replies in Sylvan, "We do share a common enemy to some degree then. Unfortunately we can no more surrender our weapons than you can allow trespass. We will need them for the task we are assigned. You justifiably seek to protect your lands from intrusion and that is something that we might be able to help with in the future if we are allowed to proceed. I imagine that if you were soon able to tell your people that your actions have secured your territory against the future actions of a kingdom you would correctly be hailed as strong and clever protectors. We would help you achieve this if you give us the chance. "On the other hand, attacking us now will not deter future scouts as the Stag Lord's successor will still need to be dealt with. Others will come from the east as we have, and the before long the Stag Lord's successor will come from the north. Allowing both of these endangers your territory unnecessarily. I ask you again to talk with us now so that we can help you secure your borders for the future." To the others in the group Brennadara again gives a short summary of the conversation in common. "The Stag Lord did kill their father, be that biological or a title, but they also have other issues. I'm attempting to convince them that working with us to address those would be a better long term plan, but there's a good chance that this group has a short term mentality. Stand ready."

Shaking her head slightly at the chaos coming from all sides, Brennadara takes a deep, calming breath and addresses the Voretti speaker in Sylvan, hoping her guess at the situation is correct. "We come not as marauders to your territory, but seek to pass through on a mission which might interest you. I believe that your territory was attacked some time ago by human bandits led by one known as the Stag Lord. Though he and his forces were defeated, one of his lieutenants has raised a new force and will once again threaten your territory if nothing is done about it. We seek to put a stop to him before this can come to pass. We would offer to share our food in a meal to discuss these matters if you would be willing." Turning slightly to her companions, in common she explains in common, "I think there is some chance that we share a common foe with them in Akiros. I'm am asking for a chance to discuss the matter."

Brennadara nods at Kazmukh. "That it's lasted this long could indicate that the threat is gone. Bandits might have moved on, though if hostile humanoids live in the area they're less likely to have vacated the region. Keeping our eyes open is appropriate." As the group slows it's movement speed to half speed to allow Elinil to Scout, Brennadara will Search using that speed, looking for hazards and hidden objects.

Brennadara shrugs at Revna. "I was pointing out similarities between the two who have vanished. They may or may not be relevant, but they're worth being aware of anyhow. Assuming you know what motivates the fae is a good way to be wrong much of the time. Age might or might not be a concern for them at all for whatever they might be up to." When Elinil reports his success Brennadara smiles. "Nice work. That gives us some better idea of who to look for and what to expect. Hopefully we'll be able to make good use of the information as we get closer to the bandits' camp." At Anri's suggestion, Brennadara nods. "If this is recent intelligence then we could see about pursuing them in the area instead of continuing on to Dawnsglen Lodge immediately. That could be useful."

Brennadara finds little in the way of fruit to share with the group in her afternoon of wandering, but does bring back a handful of berries which she set on the table for anyone interested to partake in. She listens to Elinil's report with interest. "It's probably coincidence, but a small, red-haired abductee would match what possibly happened with the Marshal. If we were pursuing this lead now it might be worth following up on some, but I don't know that it is our current priority." When Anri reveals that she opened and read the letters Brennadara simply replies, "Thank you for sharing your actions with us. Based on what you learned would you advocate any change in our current plans?"

After making sure that everyone has found a place to spend the afternoon, and agreed on a meeting place for dinner, Brennadara finds her way out of town to wander the nearby woods, making sure to stay within range of the noise of the day which reminds her in a way of the semi-perpetual chaos of Tangleford growing up. She spends the afternoon by herself thinking over the journey thus far and what it implies for the near future and while she's at it she gathers any nuts or berries she might find that would supplement the evenings meal to share with the group. Brennadara nods and smiles at Kazmuhk's obvious increase in comfort as they enter the noisy settlement. "That sounds like a fine plan to me. I don't know if Elinil feels he could get information from those about now, but I think a moment of calm before dinner would do me well."

Brennadara takes a bit examining the area before shrugging and turning to the others. "Looks like Elinil's fears were justified. I don't see anything else to be accomplished here at this point. Shall we continue to the village we expected to spend last night? Or would we rather skip that and make the best time we can to the Dawnsglen Lodge? Or is there something else someone would prefer?" "I'm probably inclined to make our way to the village and spend a couple hours gathering information about Akiros if we can. Depending on the hour we could make a decision about staying the night or continuing on after that. It's not a strong preference though."
NG F Elf (Ancient Elf) Monk 1| HP 17/17 | AC 19 | F +6 R +9 W +7 | Per +5 | Speed 30 ft | Hero Points 2/2
"Hmmm, this is likely to be an issue in the future. Let me start by saying that your frustration at the lack of control we had when encountering the Satyr is entirely understandable. We were certainly charmed and brought to a ceremony against our will with no recourse. Should a human, dwarf, elf or gnome have done that I think that we all would have seen it as an appalling violation of our rights. I take no issue with you seeing it that way as it happened yesterday. It's a valid reaction to the day's events." "Having said that, the Fae don't feel bound by our norms and we're in their territory in these woods more than they're in ours regardless of the existence of Yggdreth. Expecting them to share our sensibilities by default is a good route to disappointment. Without the appropriate strength, trying to force them to is a good route to our harm. In time perhaps our strength will be such that we can demand that they follow our rules wherever we are should that be the course we choose, but I would prefer not to test our ability to do that just yet." "I don't mean to lecture, and it's likely that we will see nothing more of Erdretti today in any case. Your actions are your to choose and I won't let you engage a foe alone, but if we can leave violence against the forces of nature out here as a last resort rather than a first threat I would appreciate it."

Brennadara shares the discovery of the letters and the rest of the Marshal's supplies with the rest of the group in the morning. After thinking and listening a bit, voices her opinions. "The letters, with no instructions to us to deliver them, as well as her bedroll and tent are evidence against the Marshal expecting to leave us when she did. It's curious, as the interactions that we had with the Fae on their own were somewhat typical; unsolicited and whimsical, and but with an exchange of entertainment for boons that one can expect from the encounter. If something was happening between the Fae and the Marshal, it would appear to be on another level, which would be consistent with our lack of memories of her presense; I wonder what dealings with them she might have had in the past." At Anri's suggestion to open the letters Brennadara does object. "Unless you have a particular reason to expect to learn something that will help us I would rather we leave them unmolested. Given the hasty nature of her departure I don't expect to learn anything of her whereabouts in them, I don't have strong reason to expect that we're being led into a situation beyond what was described, and I know that I would prefer others not open my correspondence should I send them. I could of course be wrong about either of the first two of those." Brennadara half shrugs and leaves the rest of the discussion to the others. "At this point I would propose that we head back to the glen where the wedding took place to see if there are any traces of the Marshal. Should we find evidence she was there and any sort of clue as to where she might have gone we can decide then whether to pursue it. If we don't find such evidence we should likely continue on to the village we we planning on getting to yesterday and then to Dawnsglen Lodge where we can at least deliver one of the letters and possibly see if this sort of behavior from Marshal Mosswaxer is to be expected. Gnomes tend towards unpredictable. Less so than the Fae, but this could still be precedented."

Brennadara will also search both her gear and the group's supplies on Hestur thoroughly when she has a moment to see if Marshal Mosswaxer left a letter for the group (given that writing letters was the last thing we seem to have seen her do for sure.)

After scouting around long enough to find a suitable campsite, Brennadara leads the others to it and then helps to make camp. After speculation about the Marshal has gone on a bit, she speaks up. "That encounter with Erdretti was about what I'd expect from the Fae here in the Narlmarches. It wasn't planned and we didn't ask for it, but that sort of chaos is to be expected when dealing with them. The Marshal's absence now, and the fact that none of us seem to be sure when it happened is noteworthy, but not yet alarming. We played the game well enough and they gave us a parting gift, so probably no harm will have come to her from the Satyr." The elf looks out into the dark of the woods as she continues, "The interactions and reactions she had with the Warg and to the stranger afterward were all as I would expect, and we did know that she'd be leaving us about at this point in our journey anyhow. Our best approach is probably to continue with the mission we've been given. She's competent enough to be appointed Marshal and knows this area, so it's unlikely she needs rescuing. Further, dealing with a growing band of bandits is something that she'd need to assign people to and the kingdom doesn't have a particularly veteran scouting corps yet, so our selection despite our lack of experience shouldn't be too surprising. There could be other explanations for our being here, but as of right now there's no reason to think they'd be better than that so far as I can tell." "But we should sleep now in any case and sort the details in the morning when it's light. If we like, we can go take a look at the glen once more first off to see if there's any evidence of the Marshal having been there, or leaving. For now I'll take the first watch unless someone else is particularly eager to."

Is the Marshal still with us at this time? Brennadara looks around at the glen, now empty of all but the party, assessing the situation. "Well, we're well fed at least. The dark isn't as much of an obstacle for me as for some, so if we like I can either take a quick look around to see if there's anywhere nearby that looks to be a better spot to set up camp than this or try to find the way back to the road. Which do we value more?" As she waits for the party to come to a consensus the monk tries to figure out if she even knows more or less where the group is. I'd like to use survival (+5, but with a -2 item penalty without a compass) to Sense Direction (a secret roll) to determine roughly where we are. If it matters I have dark vision.

Brennadara nods along to the music as Elinil begins to play a lovley tune. Partway through she leans over to Anri to say, "Remind me to tell you about living among gnomes for multiple decades at some point in the near future. We're here unexpectedly, but will most likely be fine. Though it's disconcerting we're better off enjoying it as we can for multiple reasons." After the first song ends Brennadara's clapping is because she truly enjoyed it. Sometime during the second song, when she has eaten the food she is interested in, she stands and holds out a hand in the direction of the hosts. "A celebration calls for dancing! Who will join me?"

Brennadara motions to a spot beside her, encouraging Anri to take a seat if she is willing. As she does, regardless of Anri's reaction, she addresses the sprites, raising her cup and taking a shallow drink. "To the beauty of Fillidelle and the joyous occasion of the wedding. We are honored to be here as your guests. Now, if we're lucky, Elinil will put that fiddle of his to use for some entertainment to mark the occasion."

Though she has spent over a century in and around the woods, this is the first time that Brennadara has been thus lured to a feast by a Satyr. As her head clears she tries to keep her calm and assess the situation. Glancing around to make sure that all are safe and accounted for she addresses the strange musician. "It is a fine feast and lovely music, young lord. To what do we owe the honor of your attention and this celebration?"

"I don't believe that we're heading into the heart of the bandit's territory just yet, though when we do get to that I agree that moving with more caution will be in order. For now I feel we're gathering information from the outside and that a village will likely be a better source of that."

Brennadara nods at Revna. "He could have been a ranger with a closer bond to wolves than most. While you were talking with him I mentioned the possibility of werewolf as well because the sort of interactions he implied with an unrepentant warg are somewhat concerning. However, judging by his interactions I believe that he cared more for the safety of the pack than I would expect from one intent on causing mayhem. Barring news of unexplained savage attacks in the region I'm willing to give his intentions the benefit of the doubt for now." When plans on how to proceed come up Brennadara's position likely surprises no one who has spent any time at all with her. "I doubt there's much information to be gathered here, so my preference would be to continue and get to the village sooner rather than later. Perhaps Elinil will be able to ferret out more information there if he has more time. We know now know that Akiros is apparently presenting himself as the Chosen one, so could be dealing with a combination of cult and bandits. He's also spreading word of his existence to goad Yggsdreth which I don't find particularly reassuring. A combination of speed and reconnaissance seem more important to me than our comfort of this afternoon and evening."
NG F Elf (Ancient Elf) Monk 1| HP 17/17 | AC 19 | F +6 R +9 W +7 | Per +5 | Speed 30 ft | Hero Points 2/2
Brennadara nods at the words. "Thank you for that. It confirms what we've heard from before. Hopefully we can do something about the trouble they're causing to the packs in the area. I wish you well, Korlsgyrd. If our paths cross again perhaps we will be able to be of assistance to each other." After a slight bow, Brennadara turns and returns to the rest of the party. ****** Assuming we leave and head back to the road to continue our journey: Once the group has traveled for at least 10 minutes Brennadara glances back to make sure she thinks that they haven't been followed before reporting to Marshal Mosswaxer. "That almost certainly wasn't a druid. His arsenal wasn't typical, which is at most a warning flag, but more seriously he didn't respond to the greeting that a druid would have known."

Brennadara shakes her head and smiles slightly before continuing in common. "My apologies, I wanted to thank you for watching over the welfare of the pack as you are. I hope that you will continue to do so as the young ones adjust to the new normal. I also wondered if you might be able to tell us anything of a new group of bandits, probably mostly human, and I believe somewhere to the north of here. I imagine that they're something of a disruption to the hunt for both this pack and others in the area. We're on our way to try to put an end to their activity. Any information you could provide would be helpful for that." In case a diplomacy roll to make an impression or a request would be reasonable here. Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

When Anri suggests leaving the monk pauses slightly before saying, "Just a moment, if I may." Brennadara considers Elinil's analysis briefly, thinking of what she knows of wargs. "Given what Marshal Mosswaxer has described of Saolmar's previous actions, and that the beast clearly knew her, it's surprising that it would choose this group with that pack. As a creature that has survived long enough in these woods to gain a reputation I wouldn't expect it to be foolish. It is possible that it had its capabilities bolstered by some other agent or was under some sort of enchantment that altered its judgement, which might lead to an uncharacteristic overconfidence." Brennadara will attempt to Recall Knowledge using Nature (+5, secret check) to determine if any of the Warg's displayed abilities or characteristics were out of the ordinary. "You have the most experience with the beast, Marshal. Other than its being out of place and attacking with too small a force did it exhibit any abilities or characteristics here that it has not in the past?"

Shattered Earth Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Shrugging off the minor damage, Brennadara unleashes a flurry of blows from behind the foe her stance seeks to emulate. (◆)Flurry of Blows against Saolmar. First Wolf Jaw attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 for 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 piercing +1 precision damage. Second Wolf Jaw attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 for 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 piercing +1 precision damage. The first attack strikes true, sinking into a mangy flank and drawing deep red blood as well as the beast's attention. When the second strike comes it is ready and dodges away as the monks hand flies harmlessly over it's back.

As the wolves make their presence known Brennadara sweeps her gaze across the battlefield, taking in the situation. When the larger foe makes its lunge at Elinil the elf notes Anri's quick intevention, while also tracking the advance of the other two wolves. The tension building, Brennadara glances at Revna and Gingertucker, watching to see how the two will engage the foes, all the while calculating where her efforts will be most effective. (◇)Delay until after Revna and Marshal Mosswaxers' turns. Assuming the shove is effective Brennadara would presumably not be able to flank the Warg at this point, so she'll give the round a bit more play to see if there's a better chance to use her turn shortly.

Brennadara helps Anri prepare the camp for the evening, and then carefully searches the area around the camp just to make sure there will be no surprises. Once this is done, and after a quick meal, the elf mediates for a time before preparing for sleep. Before turning in she confirms to Anri that she will relieve her in a couple hours. "Wake me for the second watch when it is time. Thank you for the keeping us safe at the start of the evening."

Brennadara nods as her companions come to a consensus. After a quick sidelong glance at poor Elinil, who could clearly use more of a break than they've taken, but has been holding up as well as can be expected, she speaks to the Marshal. "I believe that we're in agreement to leave these thylacines be, Marshal. We're ready to continue at your pleasure." When the group heads out once more the elf returns to her watching; as the evening grows near she adds a good spot to camp to the list of items of interest that she might spot.

Hunting animals unnecessarily (which I deem this case to be,) is actually anathema to Brennadara due to her druid order. She will argue against it, and won't participate should the group decide to hunt anyhow.

Brennadara's position does not change as the Marshal provides more information. "There's no compelling reason for us to track down animals that are causing no harm. We have no immediate need for the food they would provide, and it would be unappealing in any case, and they're making fine use of their pelts themselves. My vote would be that we are best served by continuing on our way."

Nature Check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Brennadara kneels down and glances at the tracks, but with the rain being what it is they seem unremarkable to her. After a cursory examination she stands and addresses the others. "Unless someone has a reason to think these should be interesting, we're probably best served by ignoring them for now. They're headed towards the river which isn't surprising behavior for an animal in these parts. Our goal still lies to the west, not the south. Certainly we'll keep an eye out for anything that might be dangerous, but that would have been true anyhow."
