Brayken take a moment to reflect back on the two weeks of crossbow training all of the guard initiates had to take... God he'd hated that course but it had taught him some of the more effective ways to shoot one. With a smile he tosses his spent crossbow and reaches for another...

Taking a move action for weapon focus (crossbow) via martial flexibility.

Hello, ‘ello I’m back! I will have internet access and even better a phone (again…) with internet access! But, right now I will have to use a friends internet connection for a bit until I can get those set up. (Maybe next week sometime?) My schedule is liable to become more busy than before but much more consistent. (No more part-time retail work, yay) I’ll hopefully be back into the swing of things shortly.

I'll get a post into the gameplay thread, but it looks like there not much I can do that hasn't been done already... Good job everyone!

Happy Easter!

As some of you might have heard from me here, or in other campaigns, I have found a job in Japan teaching English. I have been packing and busy tying up loose ends for the past week/week-and-a-half and I apologize if this has screwed with my posting rate. I am posting this because tomorrow I am heading to Salt Lake City and will be boarding a plane to leave the country the following day. When I arrive, it will be flurry of moving in and starting my new job As such I may not be able to post until next weekend. I don’t however know what the situation will be like until I am there and may not have access to the internet for personal use for longer, though I highly doubt that will be the case. I will get a post (or may already have one) into the gameplay thread, and if I am holding up combat or role-playing please feel free to bot me! I’m sorry if this causes any problems and I hope to be able to post again soon.

Hearing all of the commotion outside, Brayken sleepily comes out on deck. He'd almost fallen asleep waiting to surprise his captain. Seeing the arrows thudding into the ship he draws his sling and loads it. They were too far away to aim for right now anyways...

Brayken, more than happy to stay out of the rain, has decided to see if he can pester his captain at all...

"I would love to try large crab." Brayken pouts as the first carcass is pushed over the side. He sighs after a moment and continues "...but I guess they could be poisonous or extremely tough. Glad we could help and there was something to do."

After Cora's spell wears off he looks over his glaive, expecting scorch marks. "That was... AMAZING! How did you do it? Can you do it again?" He responds to Cora's question as he starts swinging his weapon and making burning noises.

Before Leaving:

Happy his friend is not going to hold a grudge, Brayken quickly agrees to most of his terms. Glad the little man isn't going to try anything, Brayken gathers up most of Quinn's gear and purchases. On the second to last night he brings a barrel of mead and a couple beakers by as well.

A little inebriated, he comments, "Ya know, Ma Druggen runs a soup kitchen... Everything she makes is free, she just asks for donations..."

Having little to do without guard duty, Brayken packed his gear, Quinn's gear and secrectly repacked Faunra's gear when she wasn't looking... and spent most of his time in the warehouse with Quinn.

After leaving:

Brayken eyes the new people nervously, before deciding he didn't really care what they would do as long as they didn't mess up the trip. The big man entushiatically shakes the captain's hand and loads most of the boat himself.

"Born, raised, and, until now, liable to die in Kassen. Not much else to say..." He replies to Markus' question...

After a day or so of staring at the slowly moving scenery, Brayken soon becomes bored. He starts repacking his luggage and takes to sleeping tons. His dour humor soon returns as he discovers how teadious travel can be.

Already on board the ship, Brayken lazily watches as the crabs climb aboard. With a yawn and a grin he pulls out his shiny new glaive and starts towards the nearest one, just in time for the new lady (Coral wasn't it?) to cast a spell on his weapon. His grin widens as he watches it burst into flame. He rushes up near Quinn, E8 and slashes at the crab his friend hadn't struck.

At his friend's speech, Brayken flusters a bit before answering, "The first option, of course, though if you're that hungry you can have the rest. But I did bring some dried jerky as well. If were gone for long the stores I have might mildew..." With this his voice drops back into it's normal octave.

"Sorry I knocked you out last night, but I can't risk having you fudge up our plans to leave. If Wisslow ever caught you 'locksmithing' something there'd be a full six month investigation where you, and everyone who'd been within two miles of the crypt while you were in it, would be held for questioning and unable to leave. This is the first opportunity I've had to leave thethis town since I enlisted with the malitia. You are NOT going to mess it up. If I hear of more than one coper piece going missing before we leave, you can consider this warehouse your permanent address. And I can ensure you have the harshest work sentence possible if you do get caught and mess everything up. AM I CLEAR?" By the end of his speech Brayken has crossed the space between the two, stuck his face two inches from Quinn's and reached a roaring crescendo.

Brayken approaches the building with a few reconciliation pastries in hand. Dressed in his old guard armor, the big man ponders again what a nuisance it was to have to work the day after being declared a hero...

As he arrives at the warehouse he double checks no one is watching and checks the building to ensure his friend hadn't escaped yet. Satisfied, he starts to move the six full crates he had placed in front of the door last night. He then opens the door.

This could go a couple of ways, do we (and i mean everyone as this could readily become a group project) want to have to chase down Quinn or should the two of us just have a quiet conversation?

Aware of how melodramatic Quinn the 'locksmith' could be Brayken rolls his eyes and shrugs. After a moment, though, he realizes if the little bugger got himself into any trouble he could jeopardize everone's chances of going. He borrows one of the guards saps and then tries to sneak up on the little man and...

What would happen ideally(for Brayken):

... knocks him unconscious. Brayken then props him up like Quinn had drunk to much and leads him away from the party. He proceeds to barricade the thief into one of the abandoned warehouses by the docks with enough food for the morning. Brayken would visit the next day and get him to swear not to touch anything not his own and depending on honest he seemed, maybe let him out...

The above is completely for the fun of it. If you don't want any PvP (even well intentioned) GM Kip or Quinn, ignore it. Also because it's against Quinn's wishes (likely) a stealth check Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

Brayken is now level three. He's going to spend some time with the town's barroom brawlers to learn a good way to throw a kick at those who come too close. He also has bought a magic (ooohhhh!) glaive and an interesting hammer and has started to train with them (somewhat) seriously. He's most likely to use his martial flexibility just to grant himself weapon focus with one of his weapons...
Finally, he found a passable piece of armor.

Brayken's head swivles around to face Faunra so quickly one could almost hear it snap. He wears a pitiful expression on his face some five year-olds would have troubles recreating. "You aren't considering we can't GO, are you?"

I have a feeling if someone told Brayken they could go this moment, he'd grow a tail just so he could wag it...

^ I could possibly play around with Valeros' character sheet (keep the same background keep and take combat reflexes and bodyguard and give him a glaive instead, but keep the stat line the same) and use that, if legal. I'd probably want to keep the same alias, though I am not dead set on this.

We could readily readjust the characters to be said pregens, just add traits I believe... but for the newbies... eh? I'm fine either way, but does this invalidate the previous chronicle? Not that it should affect too much but I thought I'd ask.

They need free hands to use... so it would be one type of AoO or the other, unless freeactions can be done on an opponent's turn.

And we are getting our captain back? Yay. (Brayken has some one to antagonize again.=P )

The general interpretation is stand still requires one to be adjacent to the enemy. Also, it would allow AoO's for enemies adjacent to him, and finally a good source of bludgeoning damage. In short, it's a simple way to cover holes in range because of the glaive.

Brayken, hearing the Pathfinder's words looks at the town guard's commander with an almost-childlike begging in his eyes. "Can we, please?"

"I think we'd have to get special disposition from the town council before the Captain and I could even think of going there... but it does sound like more fun than patrolling the walls after this. Though she would have to be the one to petition..." Brayken comments as he loots the body. He tosses Samuel the wand and spellbook takes a quick look at the bracers and then tosses them as well. Intrigued by the horn he tries blowing on it and almost drops it in shock as it billows out fog. intrigued he tries one last time before tucking it in his belt. He then turns and hands Faunra, his supervisor, the coins, as regulation dictated.

Finished with his streching, Brayken joins the rest of the group.

"Well that was... something... don't get to talk to the dead all that often."

With this 'bombshell,' he joins Samuel insearching the rest of the catacombs. Intrigued by the disturbed body he pokes it with the butt of his glaive.

It explodes like an enlarged, heightened, 9th level fireball cast by a level 20 Wizard! Even the few who save die anyways. Muahahahaha. =P

Sighing over how quickly the fight was over, Brayken hands Samuel's club back up to him. "Here you go, it was useful bit I think I'll stick to Glaive. I know how to use her better."

Giving the room another look over, he heads to the woman, and not ungently picks her up. He then takes out the water canteen he filled from the fountain, props her mouth open and pours it over her face. Done 'saving' the woman he carries her to Faunra, giving the water-soaked woman to his commanding officer.

"Well, I've done all I can for her. Now it's your turn. Have fun"

He then heads off to start streching, trying to hide his impish smile.

Brayken pouts slightly as the lead skeleton goes down under Captain Faunra's sword. With the most interesting enemy out of the fight he absent-mindedly swings at the skeleton attacking him.

Brayken, cheered by the mmage's spell, borrows his club before Samuel can finish his spell. The fighter then grins as he moves up behind his two companions before dropping off the side of the stairs. "Bah, fate I stopped believing in that stupid nonsense years ago..."

Glad the group didn't have to stop for the night, Brayken drinks some of the water and then fills his water from the fountain. The normally boisterous man stays oddly silent arround the bats, eyeing themnervously the whole time...

After watching the humorous attempts of the "locksmith," Brayken heads across the bridge while wrapping the head of his glaive with a thick piece of cloth. He then reaches out with the rear of the weapon and holds down the plate.

Annoyed more than greviouly injured, Brayken just mumbles something about know-it-all Venedictos and the idea sleep might be a good idea.

Disapppinted to see all of the skeletons defeated and too large bh far for the wheel Brayken lets the group work on the wheel while he stands guard. After a moment or two his enhancement wears off and the fighter gives a sigh of disappointment. With the ride over his usual scowl reappears as he trudges off with the rest of the group.

Intrigued slightly by the burned enemies n Brayken heads for the room. "There's such a thing as being too careful."
With this viewpoint expressed, he takes his glaive and starts to slash at the moss in his way.

Smug he was able to take out the last skeleton in one go, Brayken sidles forward ten feet and slashes at the one non-engaged skeleton.

On a different note, Brayken doesn't actually threaten any space but the one three spaces out. He will take a level in Brawler to fix this; if he levels agian...

Sorry for the delay but I'm willing to bet he either provoked or withdrew. If he provoked:
"I've heard frog legs are a delicacy, but I've never had the chance to try them." Brayken rumbles as he slices at the frog running away from him. Non-power attack AoO: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 Damage: 2d8 + 7 ⇒ (6, 7) + 7 = 20
If he withdrew, then Brayken heads to the portcullis room hoping to smash more things before his spell wears off.

Brayken laughs some at the hole he left in the wall. He pauses for a second to think, while the frog misses comepletely, and then takes the butt of his glaive and tries to push the frog back.
"You're too close little froggy, I can't hit you if you stay right next to me."

Reposition combat maneuver, eating an AoO... hoping to push the frog back two spaces (10', or 5 over the thing's CMD) so he is in range of Brayken's weapon again. Dangit there's the high roll...

Slightly distracted he doesn't start moving until after Samuel and Quinn are in the room. "Watch out, I'm coming in." He bellows before trying to squeeze through the door, breaking a bigger hole as necessary. When in the room he lashes out at the first frog like thing he sees.

Brayken has seen so little of corpses he doesn't know what to recognize with these... Glad he didn't get much of the rot on himself, he scours the room, minus the rotting piles of what had been zombies. When the group is ready to move on, he takes a rear guard again.

Brayken hears the slightly muffled moans and then the much clearer words of Samuel and Faunra and decides to move in. He heads to the side opposite of Faunra and then continues up the passage way until he can see one of the moaning monstrosities. (I2) Having drawn his glaive while moving, he tries hacking at it.

"Disease? Great... Well at least these things are more interesting the the frogs were liable to be. I'll try to stay away from them as well..." Brayken grumbles back to Samuel.

"The frogs sound like fun, but we should probably check the safer route first." Brayken says as he checks out the femurs of the skeletons and decides he would rather not take the blood soaked, slightly rotting femur. He gets up and follows the group, bringing up the rear.

"Samuel is that you? Didn't recognize you with the blood and cuts... Well it's nice to know the town wizard is safe. You didn't find Mr. Baker, did you? It'd be a shame to lose his breads..." Brayken exclaims, looking excited for a moment or two, before settling back into his apathy. "There's someone hiding in the supply closet but I don't think we have found anyone else. But seeing you gives me hope there maybe more."

"Bloody captain's 'special training', doesn't think the underlings might benefit from it as well..." he grumbles in response to Faunra's calming words.

He tries to start getting bandages ready but remebers he is a complete failure at field medicine and is liable to make matters worse. He sits, puzzled for a moment, before dragging the man to Venedictos.
