When Boon turns to look at him, Po Po is sitting up straight, looking into the surrounding trees, as if trying to spot something. "Wait! I think Po Po may have seen something."Boon holds up a hand for the others. "What is it, Po Po?" Boon whispers to the monnkey, but Po Po just continues to scan the area, not pointing at anything specific. After waiting a few seconds, Boon tells the others quietly, "He's definitely uneasy, but I don't think he spotted anything specific. He'd be pointing and shouting if he had."

Boon tries to help Hamith with the monkey herding, mostly just advising on what types of foods he knows Po Po likes, since he's no good at actually dealing with them. Through their empathic link, Po Po seems to get the idea of what we're trying to do, and also attempts to help, but he ends up antagonizing one of the monkeys instead. I know what Po Po likes to eat, so we can pick out the same stuff and lead them away from camp." Boon steal some grub from the porters and tries to lure the monkeys away. I don't have wild empathy (again, not that kind of druid), or any other social skills. I'm considering this just an assist to try to get a circumstance bonus for providing them with food that appeals to monkeys. Someone else can lead on the roll.

I moved around a bit there, eventually finding my way to the Inner Sea. The Pathfinder Society just seemed like a good fit for a wanderer with a strong weapon like myself." He gestures to his quarterstaff at that last part, and grins. "Now I know a lot of people don't take quarterstaves seriously as weapons. They're not as flashing as swords or... whatever that is", he says, gesturing to the grippli's musket. "But in skilled hands, they can be quite effective. I'm sure you'll get a solid demonstration of my skill with it during our hunt." He continues to brag. As Boon speaks, Po Po the monkey climbs on to the table and starts grabbing some food and drink. While he does eat some fruit, he seems to mostly prefer whatever wine is available. "As for my previous missions as a Pathfinder, let me tell you about the time I helped solved some trouble in Tamran in Nirmathas..." Boon will continue to ramble and take credit for his entire previous team's accomplishments for as long as nobody interrupts him. In case anyone hasn't figured it out, being an arrogant braggart is how I play Boon's dumped charisma. And his low intelligence comes out in him not realizing that he's nowhere near as skilled as he thinks he is. He truly believes he's an amazing warrior and everyone should be impressed, when he's actually an arrogant jerk who's ok, but not great, in a fight.

LV 1: Beguiling Gift, Shillelagh x2 Your perception and initiative rolls in the spoilers at the top leave off my familiar. The monkey can't talk, but he can express himself other ways if he notices something interesting, so I usually like to roll his +9 perception separately. I'll certainly understand if you just want him to go on my initiative, rather than tracking him separate for that.
Just for something completely different, I'm posting as my quarterstaff focused character for Pathfinder Society. You can click my name to see the character stats at level 2. Not full BAB, but he's a Nature Fang Druid. That's the "I wanna be a Slayer" archetype for Druids. The whole point of the build is to do two weapon fighting with both ends of a shillelagh. Even without studied target, I'm already doing two attacks at +4 to hit for 2d6+5 and 2d6+3 damage at level 2. That +4 might miss a lot, but with two attacks, I'm still very likely to hit at least once per round. The studied target will help me keep up on BAB and add a little more damage. The shillelagh + sneak attack from the archetype will provide plenty of damage per hit, with Power Attack coming by level 5. I even took Magical Lineage: Shillelagh so I can quicken it easier at high levels, since that spell is the entire concept for the build. He's also highly acrobatic for a Druid. He's in light armor, and has the Rice Runner trait to get acrobatics as a class skill with a +1 trait bonus. The Monkey domain gives a monkey familiar that adds +3 to acrobatics, as well as the first level domain power to add 1/2 your druid level to acrobatics checks as a free action. So he's at +11 acrobatics at level 2, with another +1 from the domain power 5 times per day. That should be great for getting into flanking position. I know I could have just gotten an animal companion to flank with me instead of doing all that work, and done more damage from the critter's attacks, too, but the monkey was part of my initial concept. He's based on a specific fictional character.

Still, my upbringing did prepare me pretty well for such things", says a Tien man in light armor, leaning on a staff. A small, brown haired monkey with a white furred face sits on his shoulder. "I suppose I should introduce myself, since I've never been on a mission with any of you before. My name is Boon Sai Hong, greatest quarterstaff master on all of Golarion", he proclaims grandly. The monkey on his shoulder lets out a howling monkey noise and smacks him on the back of the head over and over. "HEY!!! Stop that!!! I was just about to introduce you, too", he tells the monkey, though he's such a bad liar that even the monkey doesn't seem to believe him, though it does stop hitting him. Less enthusiastically, he continues, "And the fuzzball is Po Po. He helps... supposedly." He shoots a dirty look to the monkey, then turns his attention back to the venture-captain. "So Valsin", he addresses the venture-captain casually, most likely annoying the other man, "are we supposed to let this baron guy get the final blow on a tiger himself? Or are we doing the hunting for them while they just watch?" "And what's up with this temple? Any idea what type of stuff could be there? And by that, I mostly mean traps or any guardians or anything that may still be around after all these years. I'll let the brainier guys deal with analyzing the ancient relics."

"Well, lucky for me, I wasn't loyal to Qadira in the first place. In fact, I'm technically a citizen of your rival nation, Taldor... but only technically." "I grew up wandering my home continent of Tian Xia, and spent a couple of years living in Taldor's Tien colony of Amanandar. I earned citizenship by serving in the militia, where they taught me to handle myself in a fight. But settling down's just not my style, so I eventually left to go see the world. Met up with Amara Li along the way, who recruited me for the Society, but then she closed up shop and headed back to Tian Xia while I was still in Pathfinder basic training in Absalom." "I thought about helping out Taldor when I became a field agent, but I just don't care about all that nationalistic patriotism. The Trade Prince seemed like someone a free wheeling guy like me could work with to pick up some cash while seeing the world. And this new business arrangement with a bigger combined organization seems like it should work out just fine. I'll be happy to stick around, and see what kind of opportunities present themselves."
1. Why are you a Pathfinder?
2. Do you have a name and surname that is not ripped straight out of existing Earth mythology or popular culture?
3. Which nation did you grow up in? How did this nation influence you?
4. What do you look like? What are your wearing? How does this vary when you’re stalking through forests, sewers, deserts or in glittering cities?
At least, that's what I look like in a battle. I've found that in social settings, it's sometimes best to pretend to be human, which I'm quite good at. 5. What do you love? (Treasure and experience doesn’t count)
6. What do you hate? (Unclear and irritating darkness level rules don’t count)
7. Which other Pathfinders (PCs) do you rely on for teamwork, survival and butt-kicking? Do you have a bro? a mentor? a father figure? maybe a rival?
I don't have any other consistent traveling companions yet. 8. How does your race influence your views? Are you a stereotype of a certain race? How are you different from most humans/elves/gnomes/orcs/tengu?
9. What are you afraid of? Do you have any phobias or worries?
10. What is your most treasured possession?

Do you think Qadira would allow a citizen of Amanandar, the Taldan colony in Tian Xia, to work for them? As an enterprising kitsune eager to find new business opportunities, it seems like my skills could be put to good use, and we could have a profitable business arrangement. But as a former member of the Amanandar militia, I was taught that Qadira is the enemy. I'm not so hung up on ancient feuds, though. Taldor and Qadira may be rivals, but that feud just gets in the way of trade, doesn't it?
"I can't see joining the Silver Crusade. Sure, I respect their ideals and such, but all that honor and dedication stuff just isn't for me. For that matter, I can respect the whole freedom thing Andoran has going on, though they seem somewhat obsessive about getting in other people's business. Cheliax looks way too structured and disciplined a country for a free wheeling guy like me, even if I were willing to associate with devils. Those Sczarni guys look like cheap thugs, and Osirion looks like it's for dusty old guys who like to read." "So let's see. That leaves Taldor, Qadira, and Grand Lodge." "As someone who likes to travel, and wouldn't mind making myself rich, working with the Qadiran trade princes on stuff like trade routes could be a decent business opportunity for an enterprising fellow like me. But given my past affiliations, I'm not sure if Qadira would take me." "Technically, I'm a citizen of Taldor. Or at least, I'm a citizen of Amanandar, the Taldan colony in Tian Xia. I learned to fight while in their militia, which also earned me permanent citizenship. Of course, I only did that because it seemed like a good place to settle, but then I got antsy and decided I wanted to travel instead, which led me to this whole Pathfinder thing. But I may still go back there some day when I get tired of adventuring." "So I guess it would make sense to hook up with the Taldor faction, but I'm really not into that whole old aristocracy thing. I'm just not the type to get tied down to commitments, ya know? But I guess that's a point in favor of just sticking to the Grand Lodge and trying to stay out of the whole faction politics nonsense."
"Well, this is a dilemma." "Here I go and join up with the Lantern Lodge just because I want to see the world, and get a free trip from Goka to Absalom. Then, the Lantern Lodge goes and closes up shop while I'm still going through Pathfinder basic training in Absalom. I haven't even gone on my first mission for the Society yet. What's a fun loving Kitsune to do?" OOC: Hoshi is level 2 on GM credits, but I haven't played him yet. I went Lantern Lodge because he's from Tian Xia, and I took a Lantern Lodge trait when creating him, but I haven't quite nailed down his personality enough yet to know what faction would best suit him. |
