Seeing his spell smothered by the storm and barely able to keep his wings free of ice, Bikmalu wings back to the far side of the chasm and transforms back into a man. "We need to find a way to help them fall back!"
Is Vardlon back on the far side also?
Ouch, if only that concealment roll has been 2 less...
Bikmalu summons up another flaming sphere and rolls it toward the lizard. 3d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 3) = 8 fire damage if it fails DC 17 Reflex save. Note that last round the lizard took no damage. Flaming sphere is all or nothing.
Spellcraft 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Fort if needed 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Too bad I can't warn them until I shift back...
Bikmalu flies back down and takes back control over his flaming sphere rolling it back over the lizard.
Last round for that one 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2) = 12 DC 17 Reflex save to negate
Not willing to abandon the bird-shape yet, Bikmalu swoops around looking for the source of the other sounds while waiting for his companions to begin a parlay.
GM - think you still need a reflex save for the lizard on the most recent round of the flaming sphere. If I missed it, my apologies.
Bikmalu only got you because he's flying Talon :)
"Let me finish the lizard and I'll see if I can find them Milhar." Bikmalu rolls the ball back into the lizard.
Move action to keep the flaming sphere on the lizard
DC 17 Reflex save or take 3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3) = 8 fire damage
Move action to fly up to see if Bikmalu can spot what is rolling the boulders.
Perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
From somewhere in the mists, you hear a bird screeching in an almost human voice. Bikmalu beats his wings furiously as he dodges around the nearby lizard, attempting a spell to burn it and make room for his allies.
Casting flaming sphere defensively (DC 19) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
From out of the mists, a flaming ball drops onto one of the lizards, rolling around toward its tough hide.
DC 17 Reflex save or take 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4) = 16 fire damage
Clarification, can I see them at 10 feet or not until I get within 5 feet? Trying to figure out if I can cast a spell without needing to do so defensively.
Bikmalu shifts his form into that of a colorful jungle bird and flies into the mists seeking a better vantage point for the ledge on the far side of the bridge.
Standard action: Wildshape into medium bird
Move action: Fly across chasm, keeping distance from any foes or allies. Trying to get into position for spellcasting next round.
"I could try melting the stone that the lizards stand on...or above them, but I'd need to be able to see that area first. I don't know what to do." Bikmalu will focus on dragging Talon back to safety with the rope.
Bikmalu holds tight to the rope, feeling its rough fibers slide through his hands, he tries to watch and listen for any sign of trouble near the bridge.
Perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
"Looks like a dangerous crossing. If something were to bother us while crossing, many might fall into this chasm. I wish I could summon a creature to fly us all across, but another elemental could only carry one. Should we cross two by two?"
Ok, let's go with that GM Tribute
Bikmalu commands the elemental, "Grab one and drop it from the vines!" The elemental transforms into a whirlwind and flies up toward the taloi, seeking to ensnare one in its winds.
DC 12 reflex save to avoid 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 damage
Second DC 12 reflex save to avoid getting caught in the whirlwind. If the elemental catches it, carry it up and out to the extent of the 100 ft. flight and it will fall at the start of the elementals next turn since it can only whirlwind for one round.
Is it possible for Bikmalu to cast entangle on the vines or are the mists blocking line of effect? If he can cast it, he will cast entangle with the objective of catching all of the tasloi. DC 16 save to avoid the entangled condition.
That makes sense, with the elemental up front. I should be able to command it from my usual spot.
"Yes, I will only be able to command it to stay here for a short time." Bikmalu orders the elemental forward into the fog and toward where the vines were reported to be.
"I think I could manage to call a small whirlwind to us, but I can't promise it can clear the mists. It might be worth a try though."
If everyone is in agreement, Bikmalu will summon an air elemental to see if it can disperse the mists, at least long enough to see what is climbing on the vines.
Bikmalu waits outside the room. Knowing something of the usual spell, the mists trouble him, but he quietly waits to see what Talon and Haster find.
Spells prepared for today
2nd - barkskin [D], flaming sphere (x2), soften earth and stone
1st - entangle [D] (x3), faerie fire, obscuring mist, produce flame
0 - create water, light, read magic, stabilize
Throw Bikmalu on 3rd shift.
"Agreed. Rest. At least we know we're being watched. Perhaps we can learn who is doing it later."
Sounds like we're leaning toward an SOP of Talon scouting one room forward, then coming back so we can discuss or if he gets spotted, we're close enough to get to him quickly.
"No imminent danger beyond then? Lock the door and rest so Skirros can conduct her ritual and the rest of us can prepare to move on."
I think Bikmalu will prepare the same spells during the rest.
"Not exploding is good you two. Think you have it this time? Or should the rest of us get out of here."
I'm very confident we'll need your skills Talon.
"Probably a good plan Skirros. Let's make sure its safe. That chest bothers me as well." Bikmalu stays outside for now waiting for the all clear.
"My eyes are good, but I have little ability to disarm anything but the most rudimentary hunting snares. Do any of you with more ability need help looking?"
Milhar Korashi wrote: Magical treasure should go to the best person, the rest just split equally unless someone wants to be a loot tracker? Since this is just a single adventure, I agree.
"I think I can get two of them with my sphere again." Bikmalu rolls the ball of fire into the two bugbears.
DC 17 Reflex save or take 3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 2) = 10 fire damage
Bikmalu stretches a hand toward the bugbears. "Like lava from the mountain help me call fire forth against these beasts." A giant ball of coruscating flames appears behind the bugbears and rolls toward the pair squeezing together to get to Wil.
Casts flaming sphere. DC 17 Reflex save or take 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 2) = 5 fire damage
Crocs would seem logical. My son made great use of one with his druid in PFS play. I have fond memories of us hoisting it up into a belfry with a makeshift rope harness.
I put Bikmalu in column Z, but might adjust once everyone else is on there. He'd almost surely be toward the back.
I'm fine if we want to break for that after the bugbears. Up to Tribute if he gives us that chance though!
Bikmalu strains to see what is happening in front, but as the door is forced open and the group begins to rush forward, he moves forward with the rest, looking for a target for a spell.
Will just use my move action to come forward behind the BSFs.
"Big creatures? Door is only big enough for one of them to get to? Sounds like a tough area to fight if we have to."
Bikmalu climbs out of the canoe, "Let's hope we don't have to leave in a hurry. I wouldn't want to face them again." He stands watchfully as everyone looks over the door.
Perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Bikmalu calls out an incantation and after a moment, a flame appears in his hand. With a quick throwing motion, he casts it toward the crocodile grappling Will.
Casts produce flame
Ranged Touch Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
3/4 minutes remain
Out of curiosity, how would you rule a flaming sphere in this situation? The spell says roll, but also allows you to make the sphere ascend or jump. Could Bikmalu bob it on the crocs?
Bikmalu directs the rat to keep thrashing around in the water hoping that it might make a more inviting target than the armored fighter.
Are any of the crocs visible above water?
Bikmalu concentrates on the body of water and wills the rat to appear. Suddenly a splashing dire rat appears and begins thrashing around.
I think line of effect will only allow me to summon it near the surface.
Bikmalu looks on with horror as Skirros dives into the water, "This will not end well. The jungle is full of snakes. Can she not find another one..." Without waiting for a real answer, Bikmalu begins casting a spell to summon the rat.
Full round action, won't appear till next round.
Will sacrifice an entangle for summon nature's ally I
Bikmalu muses, "Perhaps a rat...a really big one."
Bikmalu circles back to land next to everyone on shore and transforms himself back into a man, "I fear I did not see the location William. Skirros, I am sorry, but it looks like he may be gone." Bikmalu surveys the water just to be certain.
Perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
"The crocodiles are a terrible foe in the water. If we are to get past them, we will have to bring them back up. Tomorrow, I might be able to use magic to help us past them. But today, I might be able to summon a creature to give them new prey. Do enough of you have ranged weapons that you could use to concentrate an attack against one of them?"
As in OOC thread, basically thinking to convert a spell to summon nature's ally to give them something to attack, then you all fire on the closest one with ranged weapons.
I have some options now
- Wild Empathy - but requires 1 min plus and can't exactly be used while they're on the bottom of the water.
- Summon Nature's Ally to lure them to the surface
But, with overnight rest, I could offer more options
- Calm Animals
- Charm Animal
- Hide from Animals
- Speak with Animals
- Hold Animal
Bikmalu wild shapes into a parrot and flies away, circling back to safety and landing on Milhar's shoulder.
I'll be GMing 6 slots at a con this weekend so if needed GMPC me (hopefully I won't be dead!). Will try to check in, but you might not hear from me until Sun night/Monday.
See and here you were upset with me for not giving you one ;-)
Thrown from the canoe, Biklamu treads water and tries to grab for the shore.
Swim 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
GM Tribute, still curious about any plants. Also is Bikmalu in that square that reads Canoe? If so, can he get to shore since he is next to a shore square?
Let me know about vegetation/water plants too. Won't come into play till my turn, but helps me to prepare.
Bikmalu looks into the water, hoping to see if there are any plants he might be able to wrap around the crocodiles.
I can't act till after them anyway, but checking to see if there might be vegetation to use for an entangle. I think it will be too late for wild empathy.
ps sorry for missing you Talon
