I thought the High Yield quality only increased the amount of Breaches done by 1, not 2. Benjamin only has time to do little more than log into his station before the bridge is rocked by the twin tractor beams, sending him tumbling to the floor. Klaxons blare from his all across the bridge, and he climbs back to a standing position, bracing himself for further impact. "Structural damage on multiple decks!", he shouts to be heard over the din. "Warp core is offline! Fire suppression systems are engaged, but reports are coming in on decks 13 to 15 of suppression system failure! Initiating a scan of the source, Captain!" Not again, Benjamin thinks to himself. I'm not losing another ship or another crew. I'd like to scan HIP Alpha for the source of the tractor beam from that planet. Maybe we can get some additional info. I'll also use a Momentum for an additional die, since my position should give me one additional piece of info if I succeed. ![]()

"I can relate," he says as the doctor reviews the PADD. "Growing up human on Betazed was a formative experience, but I was not really prepared for much of Earth culture when I went to the academy. So much of it is based around white lies to avoid uncomfortable truths. As natural telepaths, Betazoids don't really hide what they're thinking, since culturally they can't. It took me longer than it probably should have to catch on to Human cultural norms when I moved to San Francisco to attend. There was a girl in my particle physics class, Jen Calvern - hell of a head for the motion and positioning of superluminal particles. As the final loomed, she suggested we meet in a study group to go over our notes and prep." He gives a wistful smile to himself and a silent chuckle. "To my surprise, she was less interested in studying particle physics and more interested in anatomy. I believe I actually said to her 'so much for the uncertainty principle.'" "A lot of people find me brusque or confrontational," he says after a moment. "I just find it simpler to lay out what I believe, and move forward from there. It has cost me relationships in the past, and I'm sure I've been passed up for promotion because of it - prior to the Desdemona, of course - but you can't build a bridge if the foundation isn't secure, and a foundation of lies is as shaky as it comes." ![]()

There's several commonalities in life found on both planets to suggest some sort of diaspora between HIP Alpha and Beta at some point in their history. It's clearest on single cell organisms, but what sea life exists on both planets share enough similarities to warrant an in-depth study by a dedicated science team." Damage (as well as a few other subsystems) uses a special d6, known as Challenge Dice. While there are special dice that can be used in the real world that make reading them slightly easier, the system's easy enough that regular d6s can be used without any real adjustment. The chart for reading the dice is below: Challenge Dice Results:
1: 1 success 2: 2 successes 3: 0 successes 4: 0 successes 5: 1 success + 1 effect 6: 1 success + 1 effect What's an effect? Basically, something special over and above success. For example, if you punch someone in combat, Unarmed Strike has the Knockdown effect. If you roll any effects, you can elect to knock someone prone, and they must spend either Momentum or Threat (depending upon whether they're a PC or an NPC) to avoid going prone. Vicious is the other common one, and it's nasty - each effect can be counted as an additional point of damage. "I'm fine," Benjamin says, having helped carry Garib after the rockfall. Command 3, Security 3, Science 4, Conn 1, Engineering 4, Medicine 1 ![]() Benjamin's heart skips a beat from Kestra's revelations. "Gareb's right. Focus on the positives. The Tesla is damaged, but we don't know how badly. If she's salvageable, then the best thing we can do right now is do the research and put some action plans in place. Once we get there, we can get them on board and into the doctor's medbay, if that's even necessary. And if she's not, then our work will hopefully save her life." He leaves the unspoken third option unspoken. While he doesn't believe in superstition, he'd rather not give voice to the phrase all hands lost. I don't know how much Kestra would be using her empathic abilities, but I'll stick this down there, if she'd be sensing something from Benjamin. Emotional State for Kestra: Dread, though he's doing his best to compartmentalize. ![]()

Command 3, Security 3, Science 4, Conn 1, Engineering 4, Medicine 1 ![]() Jok'kem: The link at the top labeled Bastion Sheet has the Bastion's stats on it for ease of reference. Our main defense would be the phaser array, which is the style used by the Enterprise-D - our ship isn't so old that we have to rely on phaser banks, like the Constitution-class did. We've also got photon torpedoes, and it looks like we've taken on a load of quantum torpedoes as well. Those would be for serious engagements - I believe the High Yield property does bad things for ship systems, and both torpedo types have that. Quantums are more powerful than photons, but they also have the Calibration feat, which I believe means that no other minor actions can be taken if we fire them that round. We also have a tractor beam, for all the good that'll do against a Jem'Hadar warship. ![]()

"Gareb has the policy down - scrub as much as we can, try to limit the contamination of their culture as much as we can. We should be able to hide the Bastion from their more primitive sensors, but if the ship has crashed on Orgun III, then we could have a potential GO1 crisis." ![]()

Command 3, Security 3, Science 4, Conn 1, Engineering 4, Medicine 1 ![]() One of two things. First, you could spend it right now. We should get a base level of understanding since we succeeded, and you can spend Momentum on to Obtain Information. Basically, for every Momentum you spend, you can ask a question to the GM about the info you just learned. So, maybe we learn that there is a black hole, a nebula, and an asteroid belt in between us and Orgun III. You could spend a Momentum to ask stuff like "What's the composition of the asteroids?" or "Is there anything unusual in the nebula?" Really, the sky is the limit there. The other option is to bank the Momentum for future use. Momentum can be spent in several ways, not the least of which is to obtain additional dice on a roll. Moreover, Momentum is not a personal resource - it's a table resource for the players. So, your success here could make something we do later better! Seeing how most of the other teams have rolled well, I'd suggest using the Momentum to ask some questions. We're capped at 6 Momentum, and anything we don't use is lost, so we we might as well put it to good use.
