Hello, not sure if this thread is still being watched or not but can anyone tell me how to place an upgrade into an android body with pcgen?

Ok, so it will be many levels before a character specialized in hacking (however they choose to do it) can gain root access on even the most basic tier 1 computer let alone anything that has actually been designed to not allow hacking.

Given the above, what can you do when presented with an enemy computer that you want to control/read all int's info/place yourself into it's databases as an employee of the store/etc...

the answer is... Hacking!

Please let me know if I am understanding the following correctly.

Tier 1 computer DC to hack is:17
This means that unless there are firewalls, hardening, etc... I need to exceed a DC 17 to read everything within the computers databases, change those databases to show an additional employee, open a door that the computer controls?
If there is a secure data module behind a firewall on a tier 1 computer, I need Tier I computer DC:17 +2 (firewall) for a total DC:19 to gain access to it and read/modify/erase/etc...

if a computer has multiple secure modules, each behind a firewall, I need to individually hack into EACH module with a separate roll.
Each hacking attempt on a tier 1 computer will take 1 full action so if there are alot of secure modules/firewalls, you may be there for a bit...

Once I have hacked into a module, do I have access the next time I want to enter it (if nothing within the system has changed) or do I need to roll each time I want to read that module?

The most optimized character/hacker at lvl 1 that I can see is:

Operative- Hacker
Skill focus- computers (from hacker type)
Int:18
Insight bonus +1 from operative (which does not stack with skill focus so does nothing) for a total of:
+11 (+3 (insight from skill focus) +4 (int bonus) +3 (class skill) +1 (rank)
As a side note, remember that mechanics can get that same bonus at level 1 with the same stats and the skill focus feat is free from Exocortex if you want. Mechanics can be some seriously good hackers as well.

Oh absolutely true, there are a couple ways that people can get a very high computer skill at low levels. Thank you for mentioning one of the others!

While i agree that the gaining root access should be difficult, having to take 20 (20 minutes, having full access to computer, and being subject to any countermeasures present- due to taking 20) and being lvl 7 in order to gain full control over a Tier 1 computer is... odd.

You mention that you can be "hopped up on party buffs" What extra buffs or additional bonuses are there in the game that I could get access to? The hacking kit gives no bonus to hacking, are their buffs, pots, or items that provide extra bonuses for a limited time?

i am trying to figure out how to get root access as a lvl 1 hacker on a Tier 1 computer.

Tier 1 computer hack DC:17
Root Access (pg 214) you must beat the normal DC by 20

So target number for a Tier 1 computer is:37

The most optimized character/hacker at lvl 1 that I can see is:
Operative- Hacker
Skill focus- computers (from hacker type)
Int:18
Insight bonus +1 from operative (which does not stack with skill focus so does nothing) for a total of:
+11 (+3 (insight from skill focus) +4 (int bonus) +3 (class skill) +1 (rank)

So even if I can take 20 I will only be able to reach :31 which does not allow root access. I will need to have 7 ranks in computer skill before I am able to have a chance to gain root access on a Tier 1 computer?

Are there other bonuses that can be picked up (even temp bonuses) that would allow a character to gain root access?
-I guess if the system had a password you could discover it and get a +5, or if it had a physical security key you could find it and get another +5. But this means that a computer with extra security precautions such as a password/physical key is inherently less secure than one without them.

Basically, please help me figure out how to get root access even on a tier 1 computer without being lvl 7.

It could be that an armor penalty is being applied.

Same with or without second skin armor worn.

I have tried re-installing program and just using version 1.06 to no avail, I still get +7 not +8.

Aside from the pcgen folder itself, are there others folders I need to delete in order to get a clean install? Data folders hidden somewhere?

Since it is working for others, I must assume that the problem is on my end somewhere and I am trying to figure out where.

Still not seeing the operative edge insight bonus to skills being added. Is there a toggle or a box I need to check to get this?

Version 1.06 is out - which fixes that issue:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/pcgen/files/PCGen%20Stable%20Datasets/6.08 .x/Starfinder%20RPG/

Ok, then the problem is with my understanding.

For example, If I have an Operative with a Dex:16 and one skill rank in acrobatics, what should my skill modifier be?

I thought: +1 (rank) +3 (dex) +3 (class skill) +1 (operative edge) = +8

PcGen V1.06 gives me a skill modifier of +7

What do i need to have set for the operative edge to appear?
- I have operative selected as class
- I have hacker set as operative speicialization
- I have Operative's Edge listed under my Operative Class feature

Another awesome character. Given his desire for knowledge, I thought he would have more languages known. (he gets an additional one for each rank in culture)

Appears they are up to version 1.05 now (alpha)

Still not seeing the operative edge insight bonus to skills being added. Is there a toggle or a box I need to check to get this?

Ravingdork, just wanted to post to let you know that it is a joy to read your characters. I enjoyed your characters and histories in pathfinder, and am enjoying them here. Keep up the fun work!

Would things like be reasonable?

-judicial procedures (absalom station) average module
-cybersecurity procedures - large module
-Advanced Whisky tasting and you - average module allowing you to brush up on your whiskey knowlege
-Gang identification (Absalom station) average module
-Mercenary Identification - average module
-The Gods and You (primer for the Gods and what they want from You)- average module
-Absalom politics - average mudule

Basically the ability to purchase modules for your computer that let you take 20 on skill-knowledge checks in theory seems very strong but I do not know how often skill- knowledge checks will come up and if they do come up, are they checks that would be amenable to pre-loaded information

Interesting, I read that as an individual can only take one minor crew action a round.
So if your job was engineer and you performed the Divert Power action. That was your action for the turn. By the above quote, you can now perform one minor action (as long as another crew member has not performed an action in that phase) so you could either do Glide OR fire but not both.

woohoo, new build.

-Under theme-scholar, when you select a theme chosen skill (phys science or Life science) you are told to select a science specialty and there are no fields to select.

-Operative Edge does not appear to be adding +1 insight bonus to skills

Very nice and thank you for the work you and the PCGen team have done.

Couple of things:
- racial language does not seem to be added for free. (for example if I choose Elf as race, I am not given Elven as a free language)

-Extra language for each culture rank is not being given

-Feat Skill synergy is not letting me choose which skills to make class skills/get bonus in (I am assuming I am doing something goofy here)

- Having a home system choice is not present. (again your home system will give you a language)

- Not seeing a way to purchase/build a computer. (Turn Comm unit into tier 1 computer, miniaturize it, etc...)

Again, thank you for the work that has been done. This will make creating and managing characters much easier and I am overjoyed this is out.

on pg:215 it indicates that a computer can have secure data modules. Those modules can "allow a character with access to the computer to take 20 when attempting a skill check to recall knowledge on a topic related to the data module's contents"

What kind of data sets are people putting in these? What kind of knowledge checks are being made? and what size would those data sets be?

For example, could I have a data set on:
Criminal organizations of Absalom Station (medium or large data set)
Famous Vidball players. (small)

Basically, this seems like an amazing boost to knowledge checks but I do not know what checks are being made.

Thanks
