... He's an obsessed-with-the-occult academic who can't leave well enough alone.

Tall Ted would be the soldier searching for his lost sister.
Nick would be the ex-cop private investigator that gets caught up in the wrong case.
Twitch is a cat-burglar that always manages to find trouble by being in the wrong place at the most interesting time.

I can only but totally agree with what Mad Finn has said, and I'm glad because that means the concept I was aiming for actually hit its target.

I don't think the group needs a rigger/decker, but one that is consumed by his most obscure thoughts and writes/paints about the conspiracies he believes in would be nice and also flavourful.

Regarding the face... well, unless we need to socialize Nick can break a few fingers and get information. I mean, subtlety doesn't have to be our schtick.

Let's get some math!

Calculus us cool!:

Enlarge person would lower my AC by 2, up my damage by 4.5 (2 str and damage die from 1d10 to 2d8, thats 5.5 average to 9 average) and give me another 6 HP.

If I drop a fervor'd quicked Bull's Strength I get another 2 to hit and damage.

That averages to 6.5 extra damage with no hit to my tanking capability.

I could ditch the shield and two-hand the axe, losing another 3 AC but going from 6 str to damage to 9, sitting comfortably at 23 AC which is more than enough.

Factoring Bless, Haste and Bull's Strength, paired with my +1 Waraxe and Weapon Specialization...

So we get an attack routine of +13/+13, with 2d8+12 damage. Or +11/+11 with 2d8+18 using Power Attack.
That's an average of 21/27 damage per blow per round, with a likely chance of hitting.

Conclusion: Not only do I love maths, I can say... D-D-D-DROP THE BUFF!

You do seem to forget that Baldhus, the party tank, has 28 AC too and can self heal and lay some pain. We got this!.... and this is the kind of self-confidence that will kill us in the end ^^

Drawing his shield Baldhus raises his waraxe as he starts a prayer "Lady of the Sun! May thine light guide us! Prepare us to repel thee darkness and show thine glory upon our foes!"

The waraxe erupts in a soothing light that covers the group, boilstering their spirit and dissipating their fears.

Casting Bless and drawing the shield.

Bless. +1 to hit and on Saving Throws VS Fear.

I have just realised, as I checked Init order, that there are 8 gargoyles.... holy flying s*+$, tell me this isn't the low level entrance. Because pure sods, this is overkill... I love it!

Unhealthy doses of paranoia, indeed. As for genersting RP, I do believe we have been doing a moderately good job considering that we have just started and are getting used to our characters and all.

I will only say that in-game adventurers call Rappan Athuk "The Dungeon of Graves", so pretty much anybody who wanders into it knows that this is some serious s@$$.

As for RP, I assumed we knew each other before town, maybe not since an early age but enough to trust each other.

Baldhus, angry at the pointless debate turns to the rest "Look, lasses, I do believe nobody reveres stone and stonework more than I and my kind do. And I do understand this WAS a resting place for the dead and as such holy ground. But whatever it was, it isn't anymore. This is a den of evil, a foci of darkness and madness. If we shoot the statue and it doesn't try to kill us, I'll personally build the biggest gargoyle the world have ever seen as atonement, and place it here. But if it truly is a gargoyle, we would have evaded danger."

Baldhus walks up to the dwarf's statue and inspect it, seeing if there is any writing or runes, a hidden button or lever or anything.

Yeah, I'm ready. And my posting rate will increase too, now that finals are gone.

Also, I speak for myself but I do expect to die so no hard feelings will be held. Afterall Rappan Athuk is THE meat grinder dungeon.

Baldhus wlaks down the stairs casually polishing his axe, having just prayed to his Lady he feels confident to tackel the horrors of Rappan Athuk.

After a meager meal he waits for the rest in silent contemplation.

Why not reach a compromise? Maybe pick Leadership and choose the familiar as cohort. I remember 3.5 allowing such things.

That said I agree that familiars shouldn't be freely advanced, they are a class feature.

This is Emissary's submission... or at least the concept and backstory.
When I get around building her she should be a knowledge provider, trap disarmer, ranged and AoE damager.

As for the campaign trait, I'm looking at Local Ties and Against the Techniq League. Both are nice for the concept.

I hope you like her backstory! ^^
