Barring any strong claim form a party - which we do not believe has been the case - the opposite Union’s name for it seems appropriate: ‘Jatembae’s Jaunt’ Atu suggests to Fitch. He is a figure already respected in the Pact Worlds the Station does have a park named after him, right? and keeping the titling similar on both sides of the lane would be a gesture of both good will and clarity.

We would advise also noting in the report to keep more heavy military ship perhaps stationed away from it for a time. they caution. While the Union we treated with preaches of fusion and harmony, some on their council we detected possibly concerning undertones of preferring unity through overpowering and absorption into their polity through force. While we have little fear the Stewards could not handle such aggression if needed, letting them see the culture and commerce elements of the Pact Worlds long before our military capabilities might prevent said Council from retreating and retrenching for a later, greater conflict.

Yes, thanks so much for running Kludde! This was a fun one - and without a blaster even being drawn!

And quite enjoyed playing with all of you!

Excellent flying! Atu compliments Lifft even as they shift over to the secondary flight controls. If you can keep that up, I can activate the boosters on your mark to fling up closer to the Lane boundaries. They likely will not be expecting that.

Evasive Manuevers Lifft! Atu explains as they focus. We will see if e can provide some distractions.

Slosing all of thier eyes in prayer, Atu reaches out to Hylax. Inspired by the Union they are leaving, the mutter from many, one and pray for a miracle - a miracle of the Thunderbolt disassembling itself inot dozens of smaller component ships all scattering away as they outnumber the pirate and overwhelm their sensors.
Or at least the illusion of that happening anyway :)

Atu does not find this game's rules especially appealing. But seeing their comrades engage with the warmongering chancellor the spathinae decides it may be good to partake as well. They try to read Tkerik's body language to guess their hidden rolls.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18

As they play, they also try to continue the conversation. The defense of one's people and allies is a somber necessity they concede But restraint is also vital. Those who become too vigilant for threats can find themselves seeing malice where none is intended.

Your Union has unfied this system. Have you had many dealings with others that have given cause for concern? The Azlant, the Swarm, or the Gideron Authority? They consider for a moment also asking about the Veskarium, but decide at the last moment to not mention it This is in many ways a first contact. Not the time to highlight our alliance's own potential rifts and strains

No Atu responds, a bit surprised the councilor thinks they would be surprised. Faiths can nourish all and are found everywhere. Magic, life, the divine, and the created are not enemies but are deigned to work together in concert. We ourselves dedicate our work to the Forever Queen Hylax, though our own Pact worlds are open to adherents of all but the most destructive and malicious Gods.

Now, we admit that we are not merchants by trade ourselves. But from what we have seen of your Union so far I am certain the wider galaxy would have use for your works and creations. This conrasu wood - living material stronger than steel - alone is remarkable. Even beyond corporations, the churches of Oras or the Green Faith would undoubtedly be willing to treat with your system to study its nature.

Ha! Finally an SM check Atu can’t fail even with a 1!

Atu goes inside the ship, ostensibly to ‘check’ on the contents but they whisper to the others a bit away from the construct. we believe the ‘intruder’ was KRT41 out there. though we think it was more likely out of ignorance than malice.

Atu takes in the speech slowly. Thank you. It is clear from your writing how much your ancestor inspired you. Though perhaps for a public ceremony a stronger focus could be on the fruits of their efforts for the Union itself? There are a significant amount of pages dedicated to their early career as a barber before their work turns to their political achievements.

Atu will approach Zallia.

We could not help but overhear. Do not worry: Captain Jaws is a fine captain, and we treated his injuries. We are certain he will be fine; it is unlikely the pirates will regroup so quickly.

We also appreciated your words of unity. Cooperation is a joyous and sacred thing. Though you must be prepared: even with the widest arms there are sometimes those who would choose the struggle to take all over the peace of sharing.

May we ask: the Drift Lane - Jatembae's Jaunt - on our end had not observed vessels exiting. Where was Captain Jaws headed? Have you found other connections within the Jaunt, other than that between our 'Pact Worlds' and your Union?

Atu is a bit unnerved at the aggression being shown by one of the councilors. For such a 'cooperative' government, their sense of unity does seems to care little about the consent of those it would embrace.

But they holds their tongues for now: directly pushing back on a ruing council while in their stronghold could prove ...problematic. Plus, the spathinae's normally well-attuned ability to read people is failing them here: the unfamiliar construct frame, the water surrounding the uulian - these new species are ones they are having trouble reading the body language and nuances of.

Again, good at the skill, bad at the SM rolls today :p
And no Profession here - best Atu could do to address questions about tariffs and Drift Lane commerce might be Culture?

Atu is grateful their colony's collected form lack easily distinguishable facial expressions - Tkerik's comments about this Union seeking to be a 'dominant power' give them pause. Holding their mandibles for now the spathinae turns to the aquatic counselor a 'uulian' I think? and answers.

Yes, councilor. In our journey we found the lane itself stable and safe. But we did encounter a pair of pirates en route, in the process in fact of attacking a Union ship: the Yonder.

Piracy is sadly a plague across the galaxy, not something limited to the Jaunt. But we can allay your fears that these thieves are not as formidable as you may fear. their ships' construction were haphazard, far more patchwork and unstable than the banyan craft we have seen of your Union. This made their ships swift, but fragile.

Atu will give an account of the fight focusing on their assesment of the Drifter scythes' combat abilities and specs. While they aren't dismissing the priates out of hand, they try to point out how the Thunderbolt was able to handle them easily - and how similar tactics could be shared and used by Union craft. They will also add that the Yonder likely took its own readings and could confirm the account when they return back to this system.

Atu accepts Windleaf's welcome warmly, and offers their own (and Hylax's) thanks as well. They take in the Banyan as they are guided around it. This sense of unity is admirable. Our own system has something similar: the Pact Worlds which have unifed twelve worlds since the Gap. It is also a spirit the Forever Queen holds dear. Have Hylax's teachings made their way to your Union?

Baraggahs, uulians, elorains: has Atu possible heard of any of those species?

They will also stay respectful but silent to the newcomer: they are deeply mediocre at deception

From many, one Atu repeats. It is a wonderful creed. We embody it as you can tell, both literally the colony allows their form to waver a bit as components frenzy a bit away from the central mass and as part of Hylax’s teachings.

The spathinae inquires. What sort of peoples compose the Union? We will admit we have not heard of your system I don’t think? Culture? but the Galaxy is large and constantly connecting new friends.

I think you are our silver-tongued diplomat Lfft :)

So this is not merely a wooden frame? The whole craft is organic? Atu says in awed surprise at the captain's comments about the conrasu.

Life Science: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29

Ah, that however can wait for later. Yes, the end of this lane recently appeared near our organziation's home system. We are hoping to explore it to understand it better, and where it leads. We are Starfinders - have you heard of us before? An exploratory guild that travels the galaxy seeking to uncover and share the unknown.

Content to let Nikko still hand the topedoes, Atu slides over into the firing systems and aims the fore coilgun at their target.

Excellent firing! Atu says as they continue to try and focus on the smae ship, hoping Hylax might further illuminate to them is defense and shield distirbutions.

With the extra gunning boost this round makes as much sense for Nikko to fire both the missiles and (if possible from how we fly) the second coilgun from either the port or stern. Atu will try to Scry further this round to see if they can get the rest of the enemy's stats.

Tie in Helm 'initiative' goes to whoever has the most Ranks in Piloting

When they come across the in-progress conflict between the other ships Atu is at first confused - especially by Tosin Yaws' cheerful comments about them. Are any of your familiar with that man? they ask around the bridge.

But pirates are pirates, and well-deserving of being fought. So as Liftt calls for the crew to get prepared Atu closes all of their many sets of eyes and focuses through the Drift, pulling up the enemy craft in their mind's eye.

Will be a Magic Officer for Round 1 and Scry on the 'northern' ship. Let's see what we're dealing with

Mystiticism v 5+(1.5xthier tier): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27

Well the Drake has plenty of guns Blasto, so especially this round with Atu not firing feel free to blast with one!

And Atu would also suggest/be fine with our three 'node +1's each round going to the pilots' initiative and the two big guns (particle beam and plasma torpedos)

Atu is taken aback by the sheer amount of...everything coming from the three researchers. Liftt seems to understands their jargon a bit, but the Spathinae finds keeping up with their energy tiring. We suppose we must be fresh experiences for them, on this ship alone for so long they think, charitably.

--

Once inside the Drift Lane itself, the priest is more in their element. They move to a console next to Nikko to assist the pahtra with Ferra's device. Yes, that's good. Just flip the switch - this one? We think? Ferra's love of acronyms does make for some confusing labelling...
Mysticism: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 20

As far as the other scientists' requests Atu has an appreciation for composition. However it sounds like Vaalaris is looking for images more practical than artistic and so they consult their AI assistant to work to optimally align the ship's cameras.
Hireling Computers: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

That AI also earns its' wage by calculating lane distance in a non-standard dimensional metric.

glancing at the 'Starship Mods' slide, bemused that this is the 2nd mission in a row in this sci-fi world where Atu's hireling is possibly the major tech force.

Happy enough to be taking out a Drake-class ship, Atu enjoys the trip out towards Triaxus. Another mission, another unknown situation to investigate. At least this time it is in-system

Atu's a quite good Pilot, but could also shoot if needed. Or be a Magic Officer at least for a time - while unskilled at computers (that's what a hired AI is for) they have called on Hylax to help scry on an enemy ship before

Are there multiple labs the spathinae asks their colleagues confused as the welcome seems to be echoed. Or could this Lane be causing leakage between possibilities? I have experienced similar reality echoes before with Captain Beruta's Myrrium

They had barely landed back from their last mission (and sadly the accompanying funerals) before Atu Vaeyo received the chirp of a new assignment from Fitch. Further traffic around the Arms delaying their shuttle all adds up to you seeing a spathinae colony enter the room buzzing louder and vibrating a lot fuzzier around their edges than normal.

As all of the paintings wail in pain and spiritual anguish, Atu offers prayers and entreaties on their behalf.

These dead did not wish for this fate Queen of Forever. Of my own will I ask you to guide us to the source of their bindings so that they may enjoy their freedom once more, even if it is a freedom beyond this world.

Bodo! Atu descends quickly to the fallen halfling. They withdraw a serum and inject the fallen ally. Are you all right?

Using a mk2 Serum of healing to restore 3d8 ⇒ (8, 4, 8) = 20 of Bodo's HP

There, take a moment to catch your breath.

When we are eventually advancing:

As the shopping centers aboard the pleasurecraft warp and form into a maze-like warren, Atu nods towards one of their stelliferan friends. I think this may be the best way. But you can move softer and more fluidly than we can. Perhaps you can guide our way.

So if I'm understanding, ONE of us can attempt a Stealth check, while the rest of us can try one of the others (or Aid another's check), right? If so, I think Blue is the sneakiest of us so Atu will let them cook. They themselves will try to note the least-popular shops along the way - whihc are likely the least crowded with dead/spectral forces.

Culture Check attempt:

Culture: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19

Or if still not retreating, swing with all you might to get as many blows in before they draw your last bit of blood! Atu calls out as they too approach and lower to offer and alternate prey.

Bodo: are you all right? Atu calls out as their socni pistol dims while their newly drawn pistol begins to glow. Move action to imbue their tactical pistol with Hylax's power. Same damage/fusion If you need a tactical retreat away we will cover you!

The colony then focuses Her divine will through their other weapon, sending a bullet into the mass.

Atu flies to the north, drawing out their tactical pistol into their other hand as they do so. Again trying to control Hylax's power, they call out These undead are tightly packed. Does anyone have explosives, or shotguns that could be brought to bear?

GM: asked a question in the Discussion thread.
Would explosive rounds (with the fiery property) work against troops like they do swarms (Being treated as if they have the burst property and thus able to deal full damage to them)? The ammunition only explicitly calls out swarm defenses, but I'm not sure troops existed in Starfinder when the Armory was published.

Above the dead, Atu focuses on his pistol which begins to glow as it attunes to Hylax’s Grace.

Move action to imbue weapon via Magical Assassain-ness. Adding Holy fusion and extra damage is electric

Aiming downwards, the priest tries to channel the Queens power through the weapon as they fire at the damaged throng.

So Atu’s a weird operative. Essentially for these shots if their Mysticism check beats the enemy’s CR+20 then the extra damage will apply. The weapon has the Holy fusion regardless (so will ignore any DR or energy resistances from these undead if they’re evil)

Dead! Atu calls out as the corpses begin to emerge. Quite a lot of dead...

Mysticism to try and Recall Knowledge/ID what these undead's deal might be?

The spathinae colony works to move into the room and upwards towards the ceiling Moving 10 feet over and 10 feet upwards. drawing out one of their pistols as they do so. They too take a shot at the same mass of creatures as Bodo a a loud burst of compressed sound races out to the north.

Deep Blue! Hold, just for a moment. Atu cautions. We should send a quick message back to Absalom Station, with the truths Lulora gave her life to uncover. That way if we too fall, the next team to come and purge the threat will be better prepared.

The spathniae then turns to the last place the ysoki's spirit floated. Compressing down, you can hear them offering a short prayer. Great Queen, this soul has passed on. As she chose to protect her companions in life, guide her spark to them and her commune in death, as it harms none.

Try 'Vigilance' Atu whispers to their AI, who ignores them to actually bypass the lock.

Computers, Hireling: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

Those 'creatures' discussed must have been limited to personal threats. Atu surmises as they read out the cracked logs to the others. The Vigilance's cannons have not loosed any shots lately - beyond one, possibly a warning shot or to test the 'shroud'. If there was a pitched starship battle there would be more signs.

As Deep Blue shares what he has learned, the spathinae pauses as the colony thinks. A mystical connection, but to the Drift? Triune is the only deity that lives there that I am aware of, but they have been silent for so long. What facet of them could cause something like this...

Atu whispers some apologies to their AI assistant as they follow Blue throughout the ship. Xylt, it appears you may be quite busy today.

Computers on datapad, Hireling: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

They cock their head askance at Nikko for a minute as the pahtra removes the pilot's effects, but when they explain their logic the spathinae is satisfied.

They linger a bit in the escape-pod room, staring at the pods. The ones with the blinking yellow warning lights are still there though, right GM? They didn't launch?

'Defrost' Is this common for escape pods?

Their hireling could try engineering too, but Atu doesn't really have a big flame/heat source to try and jury-rig here.

Do not go ahead too far... Atu tries to warn the pair as they start dwn the open hallway. They try to flag them to pause as the collective moves towards the now-animate bot.

Greetings. We are also Starfinders they say presenting the Socety's symbol to the droid. Come to investigate. Lulora and this whole vessel was cut off from communication. Can you confirm the crew manifest? And do you know where they are now? What is the last log date recorded before your last power-down?
