Hey guys and gals. So posting this in all my games. My job is sending me south (closer to the path of the hurricane) for additional training, so I might not have internet for a few days, depending. I will post as I am able, but that might not be all that much (even after the hurricane) as I have been told to expect longish hours. Feel free to bot me as needed. I should be there for about three weeks, give or take. Regards!
Going on vacation for a week from Monday to Saturday. Should have limited internet access, but it might not be enough to post reliably. Typically I have to really be feeling an evil character, and I usually have trouble executing the evil portion if I am not. Still I might be up for doing a NE assassin of some form.
Haven't played either. I do own RotRL but haven't GMed before... I also have CotCT and IG...
Finally wrapping up her work for the day, Asa takes off her apron. "Thank you, as always, Korvut for the opportunity to perfect the craft. I think the Dragon will be closed tonight, so I will see you tomorrow." Giving the man a bow, she leaves the smithy toward the Dragon. "Time to wash up and see how Ameiko is doing."
I'll check it out, Calin. .... And dotted. Speaking of checking things out, you really should post your character's reaction to his new flail now that the forums are semi stable ;) (I assume it was probably eaten by the instability.)
Well, its been about 30 or so hours with it seeming to work still... seems they finally got whatever it was patched, at least temporarily. Now if only any of the games I am in currently would have activity... (sad panda face).
Similar for me, Eloisa... it was either working or not. That said (knocking on the largest piece of wood I can find) it seems to have been stable since yesterday afternoon... perhaps they finally have it fixed?
Been intermittent since Sunday for me (by which I mean I get maybe an hour or two of access each day, with the rest of the time having nothing working).
It's possible, but it was more sounding like he was pretty busy the preceding weeks... perhaps it carried over. Anyway, not much more Asa can do at the moment, at least without interaction from Calin. Ghosting until then, hoping for the best!

Asa nods thoughtfully as Calin describes how he utilizes a flail. "Well, those are all good points. A weapon should be an extension of one's will, one's arm." To demonstrate, she pulls out her old falcata as well as her black blade, placing them both on the counter. *I am going to let you be held by the man. Don't worry, I am not giving you to him. I just want him to be able to see the difference proper craftsmanship can make.* "Feel the weight of both of those. The balance. Neither are bad blades, both would serve the same functions and purpose in the hands of someone trained in their use. But my new sword is better fitted in the grip to my hand, slightly better balanced at the center. As such, it is more of an extension of my arm when I swing with it."
Taking the steel, Asa begins working on the chain for the flail, as well as its head. Unsatisfied with the results, she melts the metal down again and starts over. "It has to be perfect, precise. Not even a link must be malformed in the slightest, or you will find it less reliable."
This time the chain links are almost identical, each polished and smooth as they are interwoven. The head she spends extra time on, placing ridges and spikes at precise intervals to better chew through an opponent's flesh or armor. Taking a solid black oak shaft, she inlays the remaining boar tusk into sections that she carves out in the shape of horses running down from the top to the grip (which she makes by wrapping fine quality leather at optimal spot for comfort). Finally satisfied, she pins the cap of the chain to the top of the shaft using steel pins. Handing it to Calin, she gives him a small bow and a smile. "Give that a few test swings. If something is off let me know and I will adjust it accordingly."
Asa nods as Calin picks the specific design he wants, making notes on any specific changes he has for it. "Well, while you are making up your mind on what weapon you want I will get started on this. It shouldn't take too long." [dice=Craft: MWK "Weapons"]1d20+11[/dice] The steel almost sings as she shapes it into the chosen shape and style. Feeling confident, she adds embellishments and embosments with the grace of an artist. Satisfied, she hands Calin the finished product, the horse almost seeming to be life-like against the wooden backdrop of the shield. "There. I hope it is to your liking. I doubt it will add anything to the functionality of your shield, but you might be able to wear it to formal gatherings now."

Asa only needs to know roughly how much she spent on the silken ceremonial armor, and if she has been making any extra money from the crafting for Korvut (mostly to offset the cost of the MWK weapon she is about to make for Calin).... also if adding the horse crest to his shield will cost him anything, given it probably won't add anything to its quality or armor value.
Asa gives the darkwood shield an appraising look, letting out a low whistle as she does. "My specialty has always been in weaponry, though even I can see the love and care that went into making this. Is this what you got at Savrah's after I left?" She takes a piece of parchment and a pen from nearby and lightly starts drawing four shield shapes roughly the same dimensions as Calin's. "Well, I should be able to make something like these," Asa says thoughtfully as she draws a few renditions of horses in the first three shields, showing him roughly what they would look like proportioned to the body of the shield itself, "or if you want something really fancy I could try this." she finishes the pair of horses facing each other in the final shield as she finishes the sentence. She passes the paper back over to Calin for him to see what catches his fancy, picking up his flail as she does. "As for this, it is sufficient quality to do the job of slaying goblins I suppose." She gives it an experimental swing, shaking her head as the slight imperfections of its balance cause the arc to not entirely be true. "Still, my offer stands to make you a better one. One that doesn't have the slight imbalance of weight in the head, the minor warping in the chain links, or the rough cracking in the handle. Or something else entirely, if you would prefer a sword or mace or whatnot."
Placing the last shoe into the water trough to cool before placing it in the stack, Asa turns as Calin addresses her. A slight smile graces her lips along with a look of recognition. "Of course, Calin. You must be here for your new weapon, correct? Give me a minute to get the iron needed and I will be right with you." Unlike any time Calin has ever seen her, Asa almost seems completely comfortable and at home behind Korgut's anvil. If she wasn't wearing the same clothes from before, complete with bandage over her hand from the blood spent on finishing off the sinspawn pool, he might have thought that she had a twin sister. "Korvut, I am going to use the rest of the boar's tusk on Calin's weapon. Also, the cost of materials for his order will be covered by me. Just let me know what I owe you for it." Taking a few bars or iron, the remaining boar's tusk, and a few other items, Asa returns to Calin. "Sorry about the wait, so what can I make for you today?"
Taking up some of the projects still on the to-do list, Asa turns her smithing attentions to crafting additional horseshoes required for the shop.
Clearly not her best work, the shoes are still functional enough to be sold.
Asa nods, satisfied with the finished product. "Not quite as splendid as the blade it will be home to, but it will at least not bring it dishonor." Attaching the scabbard to her belt, she retrieves the blade in question from where she set it. *Sorry about the wait, I have finished making a scabbard to serve as your home when I am not smiting our foes. I hope that you find it to your liking, let me know if you find it to be too tight or loose.* Sheathing the blade upon her hip, slightly before where her old falcata still hangs, she turns back to Korvut. "I will certainly ask her, though I will leave asking Savrah to you. As for Dante..." the dhampir shakes her head, tossing her hair out of her eyes as she does, "the man needs the work, but that is not the same as being ready to do it. We can ask him, but I recommend that if we do, we do so as a collective. You, me, Savrah, Hemlock, and even the mayor if we can get her to agree to it." A rare smile graces Asa's lips. "That would be a sight to see. And perhaps enough of one to get the man back into the forge once more."
"Thanks, I think I found them." Setting aside some iron, she proceeds to sift through the leftover supplies from past projects. Selecting some silver scraps from a project for some nobleman's door frames, as well as a handful of choice garnets and malachite fragments, Asa starts to work in making her new blade a proper scabbard.
As she works, she thinks over Korvut's words. "I probably should. Do you think that you and I alone could fill such an order?"
Picking out a stylish black and green silken kimono, Asa holds it up to herself. "I think this will do nicely, thank you Savrah. What do I owe you for it?"
Asa arrives at Korvut's shop, tying the apron around her clothes. "Sorry I am late, we had somewhat of an emergency at the glassworks this morning. Can't go into too much detail, but suffice to say the town's troubles are not over yet. Might be a good time to see about upgrading the guard's weaponry, they may have use for it." Setting her black blade next to the hearth, she points to it. "Speaking of, I need to make a worthy scabbard for my new blade. Do you have any spare or scrap precious metals or stones? I was thinking a simple steel with silver accents, perhaps some garnet or malachite fragments."
Asa turns as Shae addresses her, noticing for the first time Calin hovering behind. "Why wouldn't I? No one has said challenging words about my upbringing or mysteriously arrived from parts unknown since brunch. As such, I am looking forward to some time at the forge after this."
Back home from the graduation... ceremony was lovely, the car ride there and back not quite so much (the joys of traveling with a baby). Glad that we went, glad to be back. And I am sure that he will be... though it is lucky that Asa didn't recognize the old glaive Sel had before.... ;)
So I will be on the road this weekend starting today. My sister-in-law is graduating from college and my wife and I are attending. The motel has wifi, but I probably won't be in it much... so expect lower than average posting from me until Monday.
Giving the woman a smile, Asa places her new falcata on the counter. *Will only be a minute, I promise.* "Yes, I was hoping that you might have silk armor. I remember hearing stories about it from my.... well, it doesn't matter much. I mainly want something that will help add a little bit better chance of deflecting a blow that I am unable to dodge. That said, I need full range of movement if I am to be able to channel the energies used in some of my spells, so it cannot be too heavy or to restrictive. I know that it might be a bit harder to find something like what I am describing this far west... but if anyone might have the ability to make something like that I felt it would probably be you."
Interrogation:
Asa shrugs at the man's words. "I have been suffering way before you were crawling, boy. Whatever horrors your love has planned pale in comparison to what my mother would do if she thought this place had any value." Asa smiles fully, showing Tsuto her fangs as she does. "Trust and believe me when I say that she would enjoy slowly sucking the life essence of your beloved out of her body, pint by pint, until nothing remained of her but a shallow desiccated husk. Or if she thought she had... potential... she might deign to turn her into a thrall. But she does not have to worry. My mother doesn't know of this place's potential, and your love will find my blade cutting out her blackened heart from her chest long before such a time comes." Asa smiles again, this time with just her lips, as normal. "This is likely the last time we shall speak. Be sure to give my regards to the Mistress of Graves when you see her. And smile. Your love will be joining you in whatever hell awaits not long after. It would be a shame to have true lovers separated for long by death, after all." Departing the cell, Asa finds her way through town to Savrah's shop. Opening the door, she knocks on the inside of it as she enters. "Please excuse me, I know the hour is somewhat early, but I was hoping to see if you had an item for sale."
Asa shakes her head. "I will have a few words with him, whether he talks back or not." After being shown to the cell, Asa pulls up a chair and sits across from the half-elf. "Must be some woman you are in love with for you to be willing to go to such lengths. Oh, don't worry. I already know that you aren't talking right now. Probably hoping that when your second wave of goblins and other creatures arrive that you can escape to be with her." Asa smiles at the man. "Don't worry though. Unless this attack is coming tomorrow you likely won't be alive to be rescued. I doubt that the town will suffer you to live too long, especially once it becomes apparent that no information can be gleaned from your fanatical mind. As such, I would anticipate a quick trial for the murder of your father followed by execution. I doubt that your death will be as painful as is deserving, but then that is what you get from civilized folks." Asa leans forward, almost conspiratorially. "If it was up to me, I would say that you should get the privilege of experiencing similar pain to what you inflicted. Have you encased in glass, only in your case," Asa points to his legs and then his arms as she says, "it would be limb by limb. Head and chest last." She laughs, shaking her head. "But then, most here wouldn't have the stomach for that. And many would argue that it wasn't civilized. I suppose it wouldn't be. But perhaps you would have a better appreciation for the depths of depravity you wantonly inflicted on your own kin. For the sake of a woman who, judging from your journal," Asa pulls it out at that word, flipping through the pages, "would probably be just fine sacrificing you with the rest of the town if it was required to complete this... transformation... of hers. Isn't love grand?" Asa rises, and gives the man a pitying smile. "I seriously doubt that you do, but if you have anything useful to say I would do so now. Like where this woman is hiding, or what her name is. Perhaps it might be enough to save your skin. Probably not, but you never know."
Made two edits: I have the journal, Eloisa has the unclaimed scroll (at least for now).
For the most part Asa doesn't need much... she will take a bit to get her silken armor... she will likely take the earrings to wear, barring having found anything evil about them... and the rest of her 'cut' will go toward the costs of making mwk, special... and eventually magical weapons for the group.
Seeing Shae, Asa shakes her head. "No rolls, buttered or otherwise. Plenty of bacon and sausage though. Go grab a bite, they travel well enough and we won't be walking too fast." She gives the younger woman a smile.
After Asa finishes her breakfast, she nods thanks to Bethana. "As I said, Ameiko should be back here in short order. Apart from some minor physical injuries she was mostly fine. Do keep an eye on her, though. Not every injury is of the body." Standing, Asa heads to the Sherriff's office to commence interrogation of her half brother. *This might get ugly. The man is head over heals in love with some creature that is trying to turn itself into a demon, using the townsfolk as a sacrificial fire. Last night he killed his own father by encasing him in molten glass while alive. Real piece of work, not sure if I will be able to get anything from him.*
Happy birthday by proxy to your wife, I suppose. ;) I normally can't access google docs at work (where I do some of my posting) so I might have to have folks read it to me/be patient until I get home, but google docs are fine otherwise.
Asa shrugs. "Probably this whole town is built over one giant ruin. As I said earlier, those tunnels on-" Asa looks around, then lowers her voice so that only Eloisa can hear it, "on the isle of that murderous fiend," having said that part de sotto, she raises her voice back to conversation levels, "were likely part of that same complex we were just in. All connected, prior to the passage of time and the destruction of Earthfall." Asa takes a large bite of sausage and makes a deliberate showing of chewing it, thinking a response to her new friend while doing so. *All sentient beings need names. They define a part of their being, make them distinct from similar entities. I could name you, but in a way that would be me exerting dominance over you. To some degree that just does not seem correct. In time I might give you a title, or surname, and that would be more correct... but I want you to think about what you wish me to call you. I will ask again later this evening, though it is fine if you haven't thought of something by then.* Swallowing, Asa continues on to Eloisa as if nothing had happened. "Regardless, they are fools to rush off to their respective destinations before eating anything. I take no responsibility for their collapsing of extreme hunger, or asking questions with the force of a ninety year old great grandmother."
Asa smiles as Bethana brings out the food. "Thank you. Ameiko and her friend should be back once Father Zantus has finished tending to them. I... think it best for her to tell you more about what happened to her, it would not be my place." Digging in gratefully, the young woman devours two plates of food, pausing only for brief moments to wash down bits of bacon with water. *Do you need sustenance in some form?* She thinks to her blade in between bites. *Also... what should I call you? Do you have a name or title that you can remember?*
So is Asa. Final bits were taking blade trip and warding weapon as my new spells known. On the topic of my not party loot black blade, if anyone else tries to use it, it acts as a mwk falcata. I gather that I might be able to convince it to grant some of its abilities in a pinch, but such cases would be rare and pretty much up to the GM as to how much the blade would be willing to help the other wielder. Probably would also require an ego check against me as well.
"Brunch first. No good came from questioning someone on an empty stomach after such a vigorous work-out. I hate to impose on Ameiko, but with any luck her attendant will have at least gotten to doing some prep work for a simple meal... even leftover boar from last night wouldn't be unwelcome at this point." She smiles to the two other women.
Asa nods. "I have business with Savrah as well, let her know that I might swing by later. After... whatever time meal it is... I will be at Korvut's working on a sheath for my new friend." Asa gives her new blade the same kind of smile a parent might show their child. "If anyone else needs weapons made or refined, seek me then. I expect to see you there, Calin. At your leisure, of course." Looking up at Selaros, she gives the man an exasperated look. "About time you caught up! You missed the whole ordeal. Did the sheriff detain you for questioning or did you run into your friend after we freed her and lose track of time catching up?" Asa rolls her eyes, but it is clear that she was more concerned that something had befallen him while the rest of them were down below. "Speaking of, where did Hemlock inter that traitor? I have a custom shaped glass coffin with his name on it to make... or failing that, questions that need answering before the mayor orders his head severed from his shoulders."
Pretty sure that Merrick has the ranseur, not 100% sure.
Taking the improved version of dodge.... between that and my level going up I get a net of 2 more to armor (as long as I am not flat-footed) and 5 more vs AoO when closing in/withdrawing from threatening spaces. (The other plus one comes from my kensai class feature that gives me armor points per level up to my INT bonus. So given my INT bonus is 4, I get 3 armor added to my natural DEX bonuses to touch attacks/normal not flat footed attacks. Next level I go to 4, and it stays there until my INT mod goes up. Not 100% sure on whether temporary bonuses to my INT modifier would temporarily add extra armor if I had the levels to grant them... but either way, its a fun addition to someone relying on almost no armor. Still need to get a silken ceremonial garb... perhaps I can convince our lovely Innkeeper to point me in the right direction of one.)
So almost finished leveling, just deciding what feat to take. Asa gains Minkaian as her new language (given that was the most recent unknown one that she had heard/studied) and Alertness when she wields/has equipped her black blade. All black blade details are on my page as a spoiler.
Asa, despite seeming to see things clearer than prior to pulling the blade, completely misses the departure of the Knight. Turning to Calin, she merely shrugs. "Must have felt that his job was done and withdrawn. A pity, I was planning on asking him if he needed any adjustments made to his glaive. He seemed to make good use of my work, but there are almost always a few minor tweaks that need to be made... usually discovered after the first time it has been wielded." Placing her old falcata in its sheath, Asa switches the new one to her weapon hand, impressed by its construction and lightness. "Later, I will have to make a worthy scabbard to house such a blade." Her stomach grumbles at her, "Well, after some form of brunch I suppose." Turning back to Calin, she smiles. "I meant what I said earlier. Swing by Korvut's this afternoon. It is far past time for a prospective guardsman of such dedication to be wielding something more suited to threats this town has been facing of late." Before he can object, she raises her wounded free hand and adds, "This one is on me. Save your gold for something I can't make for you, like better armor."
So 5 it is then, lol.
I agree, very cool way to find my blade! Will work on the level up process in a little bit... can't remember how we are doing hp for levels so a refresher would be appreciated greatly. ;)
The sensations from drawing the blade from the pool almost cause Asa to collapse to the ground again, but she maintains her balance at the last moment. *I see. I thank you, not everyone or everything would agree to such an undertaking. You and I will speak more later. For now, rest.* Only seeming to notice her companion's concern now, Asa smiles bashfully. "Sorry if I worried any of you. The blade has bound itself to me, and I to it. I... will be honest, I am not fully sure on all the details of the nature of that bond just yet. For now, let us return to let the town know of what we have found here so far. I am sure that Selaros and the others are eagerly awaiting our discoveries... and that traitor needs to be shown the price of siding with evil."
I am loving your guys' reaction to her speaking to it... can't wait to see Calin and Shae's reactions....
*If I take you from here it will not be an easy existence. I am sworn to slay the vampire who... affected... my birth, slaying my parents. And not just to slay her, but to dismantle her entire clan and organization piece by piece. It is an undertaking that will take a long time, and I cannot guarantee that I will even succeed in the end.* Seemingly not hearing Eloisa, Asa reaches down into the water and hovers her hand above the hilt. Even stranger, perhaps, she addresses the blade out loud. "If you consent to such a bloody purpose, be freed from your slumber and follow me. If not, may you remain within the stone until someone worthier than I approach." Taking firm grasp of the hilt with her bleeding hand, Asa attempts to remove the sword from its grave of water and stone.
As the last spawn falls, Asa falls to her knees by the pool. Looking within it idly, she is surprised to see the blade buried within the stone. Even more surprising is hearing the voice, presumably emanating from the blade itself. A quick check to her companions expressions confirms to her that they did not hear it speak. *My associates don't seem to hear you, so I take it you are talking to me. What are you doing down there in a pool that, until recently, was being used as a conjuration foci for wrathspawn?* Hearing Rast, Asa nods absently. "I would appreciate that, I ended up having to cut deeper than I would have liked." Turning back to the falcata, Asa begins to stand. *I suppose I could take you with me. Where is 'home' for you... and how would I remove you from the stone you find yourself sheathed in?*
