Hanging invisibly above the door, Arvaldo peeks out for quick enough to send a quick blast at the devil. Ducking quickly back behind the doorframe he hopes to stay out of sight. Standard for empowered TK blast vs. devil, Move for sniping stealth check attack (hopefully vs flatfooted): 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (9) + 21 = 30
Stealth, blindsense does not automatically see me.
Very comprehensive. I mostly agree with you. 1) Of course. As two of the potential scouts, I agree.
"Well, let's hear what they are talking about." he says softly and creeps to the door to listen. As he floats over to the door, he fades from view. perception: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (11) + 29 = 40
By default, you can't stealth against a target that's aware of you, or in this case, the door. Since you're large, you either had to open both doors or open one really wide and take the squeezing penalty. You got lucky that they were occupied. Hopefully you'll be lucky getting out. We also have other stealthy people who can do invisibility. I can do it at will. That way, we can scout when people are ready to support the scout. I agree that scouting is often a good risk. Doing it at a bad time merely to use a resource isn't helpful. It's the sunk cost fallacy. I suggest we plan moving to a new room next time. In any case, people may disagree with me. Let's vote. All in favor of finishing one room before moving on to the next say yea. All those in favor of rushing on as quick as possible, say nay.
@Rogard, If you're trying to go while you still have improved invisibility then you're going before the search is done. Facing things alone with the party split is not the best idea. Leaving the possibility of useful things behind because we're not searching is not the best idea. Not having a trapfinder check things out first is being very brash. I think we need to vote as a party if we're going to be rushing from one thing to another heedlessly or if we want to try and survive this.
He'll take a moment to finish off the measure with Irra before looking over everything. "Well, this seems to be an interesting room." he says with glee. "Let me do a once-around for traps first, then we'll check everything. Since this is made by wizards, there may be clues to help us." Searching the room and the two bodies. First pass for traps, then for interesting and nifty loot and clues. perception: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (15) + 29 = 44 50 vs traps
"Silly Squid, I can still feel you." he quips as he once again charges himself up. This time the blast races over his allies heads and zooms in. It circles Rogard in a blue streak and slams into her from the south. Move action to gather energy and avoid burn. Standard action for snaking force bolt. Since I hit her last turn, I have touchsight. That's the telekinetic equivalent of blindsight so I don't need to worry about images.
He then curses he in the tongue of the sasquatch. "Inu zizilitsa ndi m'firiji pamtunda chikwi nthawi thupi lanu wapezeka."

When he has the chance, he will hurl a telekinetic blast at the cluster of images, knowing that even if he doesn't harm her. starting invisible. will appear after attack.
"It would be a strategy to let others take the risks and then betray them at the end."he says. "Taking precautions against that balances benevolence and paranoia." Stravolo pipes up, "I think we should leave her." Arvolo chuckles, "It looks like we have a volunteer to be a seeing eye guard cat." Stravolo's response is not fit for polite company.
Should it last that long, Arvaldo will roll under the table, turning to come out of the back side. Meanwhile, his sling stone is curving around the bookshelf to hit the last stalker from another angle. stealth: 1d20 + 40 ⇒ (11) + 40 = 51
drbuzzard wrote: Basically the options with extreme stealth cheese are to not have many shadows for you to hide in, or make you effectively invulnerable. Guess which I prefer? We are going to be going up against mythic foes. Cheese may be our only option, and even then mythic cheese often overwhelms non-mythic cheese. However, if you are effectively disallowing one of my levels, may I retrain it?
I'm used to GM's rolling stealth. I'll do so in the future. I also wasn't clear that the light was coming from everywhere to prevent any shadows. Hopefully the glowing atmosphere isn't everywhere or I wasted a level. I also knew I wasn't up, but wanted to post early since this game moves so fast. It was unlikely that I'd change my action.
I was hiding. Did they see me to attack me? Arvaldo will pull out a small pouch and spray the bad guys (and good guys) with brightly colored sparkles. After he does so, he'll whisper "Sorry about that," to Gale. Glitterdust from the Pouch of Pixie Dust. The stalkers are visibly outlined, sadly so is Gale. -40 on stealth. And everybody has to make an extremely challenging DC13 will save to avoid being blinded.
Arvaldo will look shocked and hurt, "All this effort working on my skills as a performer, and he mistakes me for a common burglar?!" From his satchel a feline voice speaks up, "Well, you would make an extraordinary burglar if you set your mind to it." To which he responds with a sigh, "I forgot, one should never argue ethics with a feline."
"Okay everybody. Stand back." he says as he cracks his knuckles. This being good advice, he also takes it, standing back, but being where he can take a good view of the key and device. He waves his hands at the device as if conducting a strange orchestra. I do have trap spotter, so I normally get a free roll to detect traps when I get close.

Arvaldo will spend a moment concentrating. It seems painful but invigorating. As he focuses, the air around him distorts with a slight bluish tint. As he sees the others scramble away, he will step up to Irra. "Even for a short time, to be bound to one as lovely as you is a treasure. In return for your protection, I shall go before you. Though you may not see me, I shall be your scout - finding the dangers to come." He will stealth and stay a bit ahead as they go off for a key. stealth: 1d20 + 40 ⇒ (14) + 40 = 54 spending 5 burn to augment my force ward
How does the Force ward interact with Shield Other? I believe (and prefer) that my temporary hp are external and removed first. damage that penetrates the Force Ward is real and shared through Shield Other.
Both of the characters I have in my mind are kineticists, originally built under the playtest rules. Well, I've just updated Arvaldo the puppeteer from playtest to actual. I'm pleased with how it worked out. (Stats in the profile) Because he's high charisma, I did consider going Overwhelming Soul to become a TAD less MAD. But I like the tradeoffs that come with burn, especially with force ward. I also have a Valara monk 1/Kineticist 9(air, water). He channels the storm. It's a game with inherent bonuses, so he's quite useful.
Arvaldo opens the presents with the glee of a child. "Why, thank you Gale, how thoughtful of you!" While he won't press Irra for details, she will find that Arvaldo seems to be paying more attention to her as the night goes on. It's a subtle invitation, but he expects that she's skilled enough to pick up on it.
"I look forward to playing with you." He pulls out a set of pan pipes, which do little to clarify the intent of his words. At this point a manticore slips out of Arvaldo's bag.* The manticore looks up, "I believe that I was promised fresh oysters." Arvaldo nods, "Quite true. the revelry tonight must include the best seafood in the city." To everybody else, he nods, "And this is Stravolo, my partner and friend. The finest feline to ever walk a stage." With that, he will lead the group out, asking around for the best place for food, song and revelry. I think we should each post something we do during the night out, so as to prevent this from becoming a months-long digression. At one point in the evening, Arvaldo sets down his haversack and pulls a pair of stilts out. He then proceeds to tumble and clown around at the dizzying height of eight feet. More as he stands on the tables. At one point, one of the stilts drops into the haversack, leaving him to hop around on one. At one point he loses his balance, falling over with exaggerated slowness. At which point Stravolo saunters over to brush his tail against Arvaldo's nose. The resulting sneeze propels him upright again. But as he hops away, that darned haversack is in the way again and the other stilt falls away, leaving him stranded in midair. He mimes throwing a rope to lasso the chandelier, pulling it towards him at first, then pulling himself toward it. From there, he drops gracefully to the ground and into a bow. *or perhaps just a grey housecat wearing a manticore costume. Though those who have seen manticores in the flesh will note that he has the body language down quite well.
"Gale, thank you for being practical. Every group needs somebody to keep them balanced. I'm sure you will make some wise selections," and he will bow sincerely. Turning back to Aramus, "I'm sure it will be enough. If not, I'll sing for my supper." he turns again, dramatically, "And the rest? Who's with us?"
"A drink? Certainly not! What type of a person do you think I am?" he responds with righteous indignation. "Only the lowest cad would offer a single drink when it's obvious that we need to make a night of it. Not just one, but multiple drinks, accompanied by food and entertainments of all types." With this he steps onto one of the chairs of the classroom. It tips, but he manages to find the point at which he can balance. "We face death, the nastiest death that the cruel and sadistic students of this academy can throw at us. If we die, then we shall go out knowing that we have embraced life as few have ever done. If we survive, then tonight's revelry sets the bar for our victory celebration!" |
