Guys if we have reached the end of the road in this game then I'm a little saddened. I had high hopes from this AP, mostly because of playing with reliable, prompt players who put some thought into their posts.

I'm already GM'ing another game elsewhere, otherwise I'd offer to take over - there's no way I could manage two concurrently.

I'll keep an eye out for you all online, and would be delighted to have the chance to play with you again.

Arun too is now good to go. Some new offensive capability within his memorised spells (Ear-Piercing Scream, Oppressive Thundercloud), and as a new feat, Craft Wonderous Items.

All suggestions for items to craft (given access to materials, equipment, other spellcasters, and time !) will be considered. Any requests?

Arun has some knowledge of this area, having passed through as a younger man. He strokes his chin, and muses.

"It has to be the forest. THose hobgoblins won't be held back for long by the river, and once they are across they'll have wolves to chase us down. On the roads or the plains, these folk" here he gestures at the townsfolk behind, "would be picked off like sheep. No, it has to be the forest. There's cover, there's game, and there's the chance that we can reach out to the Nirmathis armed forces to find a more secure stronghold to escape to."

Arun looks back at the ruined town. "All gone. That's their whole lives, and many of their relatives, too. I'm not clear if these were bandits, or if this is a fresh Molthunian attack, but it matters little to our sorry band. We need to get them to safety. They are our responsibility, for now."

"Kahz, I own you my life for bestowing Torag's grace on me at the bridge. Thank you. Are you now out of healing powers? I note that several of the townsfolk are injured, and we need everyone well to make this march. Is there anything you can do for them?" Turning to the two rangers we rescued, " Can you two please go on ahead and ensure our path is clear? Bahran, are you able to ride ahead with them? We can ill-afford an ambush."

He sets his harms on his hips, thinking. "What have I missed?"

It's not unheard of to witness a mage blown up in a furious firey detonation. Often the explosion might be the result of arcane experiments gone wrong. In this case it's the fault of poor industrial health and safety, as the demolition charge misfires.

Knocked insensible by the blast and bleeding out from a terrible chest wound, Arun likely owes his life to his Dwarven friend. "Urghh..." is all that escapes his lips as, healed, he rises to his feet. There's time for thanks later, he reasons, once we're away and out of crossbow range.

He lopes the short distance to where he tied Caleb whilst assisting with the demolition. Soothing her with one hand, he vaults up, and surveying the advancing hordes of goblinkind, spurs the horse to carry him (alongside Khaz and Brunner) away across the bridge to safety.

If the hobs engage Khaz in combat, Arun could pause to cast Sleep; but I'm very much hoping this this isn't needed. RUN !

The celestial attack dog continues to attack the hobgoblin leader, lunging and snapping at his legs:
move to T5 to set up flank attack, then attack attack/hex: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 = 13 damage/smite evil: 1d4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5

Arun, infuriated by the hobgob's call for reinforcement, spurs his horse to gallop past the hobgoblin ride to square W5 . As Arun circles the hobgoblin, his voice rises, his eyes seem to drill into his enemy's mind and he emits a wave of pulsing mental energy to crush his opponent's will using his arcane skills to intimidate intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Arun hears the arrows thud home into the hobgob leader (well, JP's. He saw Bahram's efforts and assumed he was shooting at someone else entirely...). He finishes his incantation, and a shimmering glow of greenish light coalesces into a slavering attack dog at A6.

I need to take out that crossbowman, thought Aren, before the others will cross onto the bridge. Continuing his ride from cover to cover, he moved forward into the lee of the bridge square L3 . Holding his nerve as the second quarrel thudded into the tree beside him, Arun completed his casting, designating a point behind the wolf and the northern hob (f6 pls) as the epicentre of effect. "Across the bridge - there will be other goblins behind us! Bahran, can you pincushion that bowman?"

He wheeled his horse, and surveying the melee, conjured a sudden burst of green light to distract the remaining hob. Then he galloped around the combat, to the north to summon the townsfolk they had left behind the building to cross the bridge.

By my reading, it's a Ride check DC5, not a Handle Animal check, to stay in the saddle after taking damage. Arun has Ride +6 and Handle Animal +9. ride: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 h animal: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

True to his word, after ensuring he is secure in the saddle Arun begins his sleep spell. He will aim to affect at least two, if not three of the enemy within a 10' radius (20 diameter) sphere once the spell completes (ie after their movement has ended).

Actually I'd also be happy without. There's five of us, we're level 2, we could do this alone.

I am assuming the we had intelligence on the bridge guards from the scouts we posted, so Arun knows where they are before rounding the house.

"I need cover, don't forget! " whispers Arun as he urges his horse forward to the square to the left of A7. On galloping there, and using the tree as partial cover, he begins a sleep spell targeted at the hobbos It will take effect at the start of my next action, so it could be interrupted. Target is where ever would affect the most enemy, currently L7 but flexible to change

Arun snaps his fingers (stealthily... ) then shares his onsight with the others: "Ah ! Now I remember where I have seen that uniform before! The hobgoblins are wearing the emblem of the Ironfang Legion, a Molthunian goblinoid mercenary army responsible for the Ramgate Massacre 2 years ago, but absent from the battlefield ever since."

Regards the hobbos by the bridge, "this would appear to be the situation I have been saving my 'sleep' spell for. If you guys can win me six full second to complete it, at close range (within 30') I could take out most or all of the guards and that massive wolf." Turning to the others "My friends I can ride in close, but I would sorely need your support up close were I to attempt this"

Marvelling at the Cavalier's horsemanship, Arun dismounts his horse by the entrance to the shrine. 'I'll never be able to match that skill, he thought to himself. Instead he stood watchfully with the civilians they had rescued, watching what was going on and wary of hobgoblin reinforcements.

Yoink!In a flash, the most useful items from the store were added to the heap on the floating disk, with a few additional items added instead to the saddlebags outside. GM: I assume that, between the disk, the two mounts and saddlebags, and the empty hands of the rescued folk outside, we have ample carrying capacity for the kit we are taking. Please tell me if not...

Guys I have updated the loot list for the juicier bits of kit we have (ahem) 'liberated' here. I've arbitrarily alloced them between us all. Please post if you want / need anything specific. Khaz do you need to drink the potion of CLW, given the pasting you took at the door?

Whilst busying himself with loading up on provisions, Arun called over his shoulders to the others, "C'mon, we said quick in, quick out. We better get moving here. My call would be to vendezvous with the rangers we left to recon the bridge. Oh !" here he snaps his fingers, "I nearly forgot! Oreld, do you by any chance have any catalyst we could use to blow the bridge out of town? We must protect the retreat of the townsfolk into the forest !

Sensing that the immediate danger may be over, Arun moves cautiously into the shop to square E2. He scans the shelves to identify anything to add to the already heaped floating disk hovering at his side, anything which might prove of value to the party in the woods.

I wonder whether those bloody footprints leading into the shop were made by hobgoblin boots...there may be more here than we have yet seen...

I'm alarmed to see Arun alone and vulnerable put the front on his own. In the future, given he is the most squishy member of the party, he will always seek to have at least one other PC between him and potential trouble.

Arun holds up a hand behind him to indicate two enemies, and points into the shop where the noise of looting is coming from.

He then raises his hand and contracts it into a clawlike grip, before pointing at the nearest of the hobs. Charm Person, DC15 .

If he feels that the enchantment has worked, he calls out with an imperious tone,

In goblin...:
" You in the store, looting! Both of you! Drop your swords and get out here now! You are a disgrace!
Arun is hoping to cause collateral confusion in the second hob, due to the behaviour of the first. Arun will also call to his friends: "Hold from attacking just yet: I have enchanted one. Maybe we can get some answers here... "

If Arun feels his spell has been resisted, he will tell the others, and either leg it back round the corner, or hide behind the others if they advance. Either way, he seeks some meat shield between him and hob swords...

There's now nearly twenty of us, plus horses and crates piled high on a floating disk; it's time and stealth that are our enemies thinks Arun as he looks around the group from alongside Caleb, his jet-black horse. We few appear to be earning the respect and trust of the townfolk - I dread that lead them into their doom.

Seeing the blast-marks of the side of the shop, Arun tries to evaluate what might have caused such polychromatic discolouration kn. arcana, or spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Seeking out the eyes of the other leaders of the group, Arun points at the open doorway of the store, "I say we leave Kinning and Jet to guard the wounded cleric and the others, while we few deal with whatever's inside: quick in, grab what we can, quick out. What do you say?"

Arun will boost the resistance of the first 3 people to go in (with the cantrip: resistance, duration: 10 rounds) just before they enter the store.

Are there any windows we can look into first ? perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

This is lunacy - the larger our group gets, the more noticable we are to the enemy. We need to be gone from here.

"Taidel! Lirosa! Wait!" Arun calls after the pair, "If fighting hobgoblins is your intent, don't throw away your lives without purpose. Our mission is to save lives; we need to cross then destroy that bridge. I ask that you scout ahead, clear the bridge of enemy if you can, and seek to hold it by any means until we come. We saved you from the elemental - this I ask in return." Arun looks the brother in the eye; "Will you do this for us?"

"Does anyone need healing? I have a potion here" Arun looks specifically at Khaz and Fergal "Or, are you able to call on your God to heal the group, Aubrin?"

Arun stashes the potions and vials, wrist sheath and dagger as communal loot. Anyone mind if I dibs on the dagger and wrist sheath?

Whilst doing so, he sniffs the unknown potion and the vials to try to detect their purpose: perception to ID potion: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19, perception to ID vials: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 "Khaz, Fergal, I have no idea what these vials are. Arun is wary about approaching the forge, fearing that there may be a spellcaster about, given the appearance of an elemental with the hobgoblins. Or was it attacking them?

If the coast is clear, Arun will cast Tenser's Floating Disk, and start loading it with kit from the trading post and forge. Focusing on kit relevant for survival (pots, pans, tin buckets) but also weapons (especially spear and arrow heads). Trying to maximise utility within the 200 lbs weight limit.

Are our mounts here? If so we can load up the saddle bags too, wilst being sensitive about time.

Argh - two days in a row...

Arun recoils in shock at the savagery of the elemental attacking Khaz and Fergal as it spits cinders and blasts hot gusts of air about the forge's front yard. He notes the wild eyed straining of the horses in the enclosure as they shy away from the extra-planar creature.

"this is fast getting out of hand," he thinks, as he sees the Druid knocked backwards by a furious detonation, and our healing powers are already diminished...

Still clutching his scroll (scroll number 4) in one hand, Arun moves forward 10' (to square F9) and reaches into his sash for his spell components. He touches Khaz on the shoulder, whilst holding a small swatch of cloth and whispering in a low voice, and drawing in his arcane powers...

casting memorised spell 'resistance' on Khaz for +1 saves for 10 rounds. Thank you JP for the second catch...

Arun calls out to those fighting in the yard " Stay this side of the elemental - I am targeting the area behind it!"

Still clutching his scroll (scroll number 4) in one hand, Arun takes a 5' step forward to square F8 and reaches into his sash for his spell components. He begins to whisper in a low voice over a handful of fine sand, whilst drawing in his arcane powers...

casting memorised spell 'sleep' (DC15) to target the elemental; the spell will take effect at the start of Arun's next turn. Spell is targeted at a point behind the elemental (say J11 if it does not move), intending to catch it and only it within the 10' radius burst effect. I am hoping there are no other living creatures behind the elemental in the forge...

Myself, I'd be perfectly happy for someone else to take over Arun for any short period I was out of contact.

Luke / JP : thanks for the heads-up on Daze. I didn't appreciate it was different to my daze touch spell-like ability, which affects 'creatures'.

Saying that, are elementals 'creatures'? I assume so. Either way I'm not going to get close enough to touch it...

In my post I tried to tip my hat to your superior knowledge by referencing Prof Loucheman. However, now I realise that's Bahram's avatar, not yours. Arghhh. Not having a good day.
