With everybody else out of sight, Artegall bends over the "corpse" again. "Is the crazy little gnome going to tell anyone? Blink once for yes, twice for no. I'll have to kill them if so. If not, make yourself scarce for a few days. Miraculously resurrect after that for all I care."

We have no proof that he has done anything evil. All we know is that he runs games of Blood Pig. So I don't understand Nargun's vendetta against him. What wrongs do you speak of? You didn't raise any such points when we were debating accepting this task, only saying Nargun was "indifferent" about it. I don't understand what changed. Old Korvosa was basically cut off from the rest of the town when the plague occurred, and Pilt appointed himself 'Emperor' to, it seems, entertain the mobs. Pilt did not release the plague, Pilt did not cause the breakdown of social order (he just capitalized on it a bit to aggrandize himself), and Pilt did not kidnap Orisini as far as we know. He did kidnap Salvator Scream, but the GM made clear Salvator Scream wants to stay with Pilt (here). That's I think why Mirela was so reluctant to kill Pilt. As she noted back on our first visit: Mirela Wintrish wrote: They have some community here, even if it is run by a madman. Artegall is reluctant as well; he regards this entire mission as an evil act on our part, but unfortunately necessary to save Orsini. (Good thing he's not a paladin.) Look, I hate this mission. We are directed to assassinate somebody with no proof that they've done anything to warrant it. If we don't do that, we can't progress in the AP. I think I found another way that keeps us at least a little bit more on the side of Good. I'm sorry. I thought I had come up with a solution that we could all live with. Kill him if it means that much to you. I tried to find a better way. Please at least wait for Mirela to chime in.

I hate having to do any metagaming but party comity outweighs that consideration. That is, I don't want anyone to get mad at me because they don't understand what I am doing. So, to explain, I realized there was a way to spare Pilt (as Mirela seemed to want), but it requires no witnesses.
Once there is nobody else around to see or hear, we can tell Pilt to make himself scarce for a couple of weeks and then he can magically 'resurrect' for all we care - hopefully once we are done with the Arkona business. Anyway, that's the plan. It depends on people who believe the story to be true spreading the word that Pilt is dead. Doesn't work if a few guards chase after them shouting "He was only faking, he's okay!"

As to the executioner, they probably got tripped by Whisper while taking their move action but then would have needed a second move action to stand up. So Cynara didn't get hit, as they had to spend two move actions. Cynara may want to move back into that hallway as she still has a move action and likely no enemies threatening her path (Cyan is unconscious, and Red Berry is probably down).

I had thought I stated that I was attacking Berry Red but I see I did not make that explicit. If I had wanted to attack Cyan I would not have needed to 5' step, and I would simply have CdG'd him. But moving on. My attack last round going against Cyan means that I almost certainly hit on a 12 (-4 AC for Prone and -5 AC for 0 Dex when unconscious), and so would not have used Inspiration. Artegall studies and strikes at the nearest active foe (Berry Red). Seeing the executioner nearby, he stays on his guard Combat Expertise.

Okay, I switched our initial arrival order so that I can take my turn without needing to wait for someone else to post. Nobody has objected so let's go with this. Artegall pops into existence near some guards, says "Sorry, regime change." and stabs the one in the SW corner.
Attack (vs flat-footed AC), Human-Bane: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 11 + 2 = 17 a bad roll, but, again, vs flat-footed AC. So... not going to use Inspiration on that.

Mirela did say she wanted to form up first. I'm not sure how that would work - looks to make more sense to form up and then teleport, taking advantage of our knowledge of the layout. There's a 5' wide corridor to get to the Throne Room, so if we appeared elsewhere, we'd have to be single file at some point, with Whisper squeezing. If we appear as I have it on the map (all of us contiguous, but Mirela and Cynara relatively protected and Whisper not squeezing), then we'd be able to bring our 3 melee types to bear on the enemy immediately and not be bottlenecked. In a surprise round, Nargun can attack and 5' step NE to make room for Artegall, who can then 5' step and attack. Thoughts?

Cynara wrote: The arcane eye can fit through small openings, so unless the doors are sealed tightly Cynara may still be able to find Pilt. Yes. We know where Pilt is. As the GM wrote just above: karlprosek wrote: Sorry my mistake. Pilt's in the throne room in that case. Also in that case, there are guards/members of the mob everywhere and patrols are very regular. It's not possible to plan out a stealthy way in for the whole group during the day, there are too many people moving around doing things. The throne room is open to the air and therefore open to the Arcane Eye. We were there over a year ago IRL, before you joined. It is described here. karlprosek wrote: This open-air balcony is shielded from rain and sun by a brightly colored canvas roof that extends up over the area like a half-dome, held in place by a wooden framework. The inside of the canvas has been decorated with scenes of gruesome debauchery; battlefields, executions, torture chambers, and human-eating monsters all vie for space. The balcony contains two major features of note. The first is a high-backed throne that looks like a poor man’s version of the Crimson Throne, a thing of blood-red cushions and silks and spikes. Directly west of the throne stands an intimidating device: a tall guillotine of carved wood and bone, its base depicting grasping demonic feet and the housing of its glittering blade a leering demonic face. We might try to go through the SW corner of the large building, depending on what guards/creatures the Arcane Eye saw in there. It looks like from the room we would enter there is a corridor that leads to the throne room. This would be my first choice. We could try disguises or trickery, but Pilt's guards know us. Or, we could try to come from the air. We can't make everyone fly, but Cynara and Mirela could maybe handle this. If they could fly into a position with line of sight to the balcony (like in the air over the Blood Pig field, or directly above if we take down the awning), they could probably take down Pilt and many of his guards with spells and arrows. It's not very sporting, and it would leave Nargun and Artegall with little to do, but if the guards don't have bows then it's probably the safest plan (and even if they do have bows, they would be unable to use them once grappled by Black Tentacles). Or we could ask Pilt to fake his death somehow, since I know Mirela doesn't like the idea of killing him. Artegall however is pretty poor at Bluff, so I don't know how we would convince the Arkonas that we truly believe Pilt is dead. Or we could wait for night, when Pilt would be in his bedroom instead of the throne room.

He's got the Spiritualist archetype for Investigator which offers some great defensive abilities, at the cost of the alchemist "spellcasting". He uses combat maneuvers a fair amount. I know the Witch is generally lacking in area damage (vs swarms for example) and some of the good buffs (like Haste). How are they on divination/utility spells? I see they get Arcane Eye (which is stellar in the right circumstances) and Dimension Door, and Alley Witch adds a few more utility spells.

I would wish to continue, especially if we can get back to a good pace like we had before. That probably does mean asking around for a replacement. Are there any from your other campaigns you would ask?

He waits for someone more diplomatic to present requests, but will listen carefully to Lord Glorio's responses.

Artegall stops and looks at the statue of Chamidu. How much does he know about this deity? Knowledge (Religion), Free Inspiration: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 7 + (5) + 1 = 23 He will follow the sergeant up the stairs.

Artegall waits for any answer to Mirela's question, but is otherwise ready to go to meet with Lord Arkona.

Artegall will be in the Entrance Hall (D1) looking out the windows. Those are the light blue segments in the exterior (eastern) wall, correct? He will be about 15' from the double doors into D8, at what seems to be a large window.

"Are there no guards or patrols anywhere? Where is everybody?" In the smoking den, Artegall tries to discern how long ago the hookahs had been smoked, by the strength of the smoke still in the room.
He looks out the windows to the palace grounds. Is anybody seen walking around?
