After continuing to read to find the answer, I believe I have found it. If you read the thrown trait, the last two sentences appear to contain the solution:

"You can throw this weapon as a ranged attack. A thrown weapon adds your Strength modifier to damage just like a melee weapon does. When this trait appears on a melee weapon, it also includes the range increment. Ranged weapons with this trait use the range increment specified in the weapon's Range entry."

To me, this seems to fairly concretely imply that a melee weapon with the thrown trait is not a ranged weapon, it just allows you to make ranged strikes with it.

I'm pretty sure when you make a "ranged attack" in the book definition it specifies that you only make ranged attacks with ranged weapons.

Then the throwing trait specifies that you make a ranged attack.
meaning it would become a ranged weapon.

Do you have a page number for this?

If I was, for example, to build a Ranger that used thrown daggers as a primary mode of attack, are these daggers considered ranged weapons for feats that require using a ranged weapon?

I understand the answer is certainly no for a feat like Hunter's Shot (pg171) which required a ranged weapon with reload 0.

But what about for a feat like Penetrating Shot (pg175) which only requires that I be wielding a ranged weapon? Or Targeting Shot (pg176) which has me make a ranged weapon strike. Or even Snap Shot (pg173) which let's you use reactions that normally allow a melee weapon strike with a ranged weapon strike instead?

Oh man, that second link is broken. Uhh, the first one is not really an inside joke. It's just funny because it's silly imo.

Try This One

PRAISE LORD GABEN!

So I can't edit that post anymore but I did run into an issue and figured out how to resolve it.

Sometimes the numpad will act wonky and not work. It will do unexpected things when you click the keys like opening up your quests. This is no bueno. To fix this, go to 'Features' under 'Terminal' on the right and check 'disable application keypad mode'

Make sure to resave the ADOM session so that it will remember that setting.

You forgot the part where you miss Filk once.

The orc throws his axe at you. The orc throws his axe at you. The orc throws his axe at you. You die...

This is for our DM, but anyone who isn't afraid of sudden, unavoidable unproductive days is welcome to join in.

****How to play ADOM Online****

Step 1: Download an SSH Client
I suggest PuTTY.
Download the first link 'putty.exe' and save it somewhere easy to find.

Step 2: Setting up the Connection and Settings
■Under 'Host Name (or IP address)' type 'Ancardia.Us.To'
■Under 'Port' type '22' if it isn't already
■Under 'Saved Sessions' type 'ADOM'
■Click 'Window' on the right and make the following changes:
-Change 'Columns' to 80 if it isn't already
-Change 'Rows' to 25 if it isn't already
-Under 'When window is resized' select 'Change the size of the font'
■Click 'Session' on the right, we should be back to the first screen
■Select 'Save' on the left and you should see 'ADOM' populate in the lower field

Step 3: How to Start the Server
In order to open the server you must either double click 'ADOM' in the saved sessions field or click 'ADOM', click 'Load', and then click 'Open'.

Step 4: Your new Ancardia Account
It is going to ask you to log in, if you already have an account, log in with it and enjoy! Otherwise, log in with:
Username: adom
Password: adom
and follow the on screen instructions.

Step 5: Playing the Game
Once you restart the client (it will ask you to restart the SSH client after you create your new account) actually starting a game of ADOM will be pretty self explanatory. If you have an trouble or questions, feel free to ask, I'd be happy to answer.

***DISCLAIMER***
This game is incredibly hard, and incredibly complicated. Don't get frustrated if you die over and over. That is completely expected. My biggest tips to help you get started are:
■shift+? opens help and allows access to keybindings. You will be using these, trust me.
■ADOM has a wiki. It is amazingly useful, but full of spoilers. Enter at your peril.
Use the numpad. If you have the option to do so, move using the numpad. It facilitates easy diagonal movement. Using the arrow keys will make you move twice to travel diagonally one space. This can mean the difference between life and death.

^ Double posting is a sin.

Sounds like you will be one of my primary targets for buffs then.

Thalrik, I appreciate the thought, but I'm planning on taking Raging Vitality down the road, and while urban barbarian is cool, I'm interested in maximal HP, and only pulling out rage as a last resort.

I actually thought about doing a total Dex build and getting an agile AoMF, but I'm going to be building completely around strength and getting a bunch of natural attacks. I am sorta debating swapping my race, but I would feel bad optimizing this character any further.

You are combining barbarian fighting prowess with alchemists mutagen correct? Why are you using rage as a last resort?

Who have not met yet?

Was telling a friend about different classes because he was having a hard time deciding on something to play, and in the process I told him about Inquisitor and realized, id probably enjoy playing one myself.

So gonna write up an Inquisitor for the merry band.

I also think the Inquisitor is very cool. A divine version of the bard in my opinion. Probably one of, if not my favorite class.

By the way, I have +14 stealth with ZERO ranks in it ;)

Now you have to take the Blunderbuss. Imagine the stealthed shotgun carnage.

I can't find the feat anywhere. What's the name of it? Also, I just looked, and I can't afford a double hackbutt even with the 3,000 starting gold. I may just end up with a masterwork pistol.

Feat Delivered!

You should totally do it!

I'm playing a goblin gunslinger.

Are you going to take the feat that lets you use oversized firearms? That would be totally sweet.

did i miss anyone?

Not as far as I can tell.

Can the constant word of power chanting qualify as the "1 hour of communion with familiar" for the purposes of memorizing spells? It would just be a flavor kind of thing. I still wouldn't refresh the spells until after an 8 hour rest.
