Finally got around to posting our group. We are just starting "A Memory of Darkness". We round robin the DM seat, so each of us runs a chapter.

All characters are beta:
Phineas (11th level human sword (Aldari) and shield fighter)
Araevin Raunaeril (11th level elven wizard with mongoose familiar (weasel)) (this is my character)
Eshrin (11th human level rogue)
Jjolg (11th level half-orc monk)
Rhus (an 11th level elven monk/rogue archer)

Retired character:
Ovir (9th level dwarven cleric of Nethys)

We actually got together about a year ago by posting on these very boards. We have fairly good teamwork and excellent roleplaying. We seem to be able to walk through most of the encounters at this point but we'll see how bad things get at the end.

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Upon noticing the shrunken chest Araevin intones, "Shivae Capniomo." Casting charm person on the mage and says, "You stop the bouncers and troublemakers I'll keep the chest safe." Araevin will move next to the (hopefully now) charmed enemy mage and chest.

We need a time limit so that things stay moving (they are already slow). How long before you DMPC someone Ross?

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Forgot to mention ealier that he uses his arcane duelist ability to up the DC on the Color Spray (Will DC 16 to save)

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Seeing an opportunity to undermine this whole operation Araevin quickly calculates the best course of action and moves to position himself directly North of the square Melissa just vacated. He utters the arcane words "Prismal Vilis" and unleashes a torrent of flashing colors and whirling patterns on the unsuspecting group of thieves.

Basically he moves 2 squares to the East and then one square Northeast and then hits that group of 5 badguys with Color Spray. Those are badguys right?

A robed figure also makes haste toward the chest. (He's coming from the rear of the room, from the direction of the flare.)

Araevin pulls back, reaching into his spell pouch.

under his breath, "Maeshi sare iasha charasi." Norn is pretty sure that Araevin just cursed in Elven. "Unfortunately, it looks like we may need to intervene Norn as they are trying to abscond with what soon would be most likely ours. This would be an unnecessary setback to our plans." Araevin will stand and move himself to within 15' of the chest if he can. If someone approaches him threateningly they get Charm Personed.

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Watching the others at the table begin to stand and involve themselves in the unfolding drama Araevin thinks, Apparently I chose poorly in selecting this table. Leaning back toward Norn, "This doesn't involve us, just stay seated and allow the bouncers and these upstanding citizens to solve this little dilemma. No reason to complicate matters any more than they already are." He slips some spell components from his pouch underneath the table.....just in case...

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Norn:

Spoiler:
A friendly tip. If you copy and paste the BBCode line from Invisible Castle into your posts than you don't need to spoiler the rolls you make. They will look like my rolls do in my posts and link directly to IC.

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Will Save (1d20+2=14)
Spellcraft to identify spell (1d20+8=16)

Araevin catches a bit of the flash but manages to avoid the brunt of it after he identifies that a spell is going off and what it's intention is. He chides himself for being caught offguard and tries to blink away the spots in his vision.

{ooc]Hopefully that save made it[/ooc]

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Initiative (1d20+9=13)

So focused on his game Araevin is slow to react. Looking up he takes a moment to make sense of the situation. The flash gets his attention, magic, he thinks as his eyes narrow.

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

"I calculate the odds that Spore still retains a direct hold over Ross's brain at about 157 to 1"

Mel looks up at the table chief fingering his chips nervously

"How do you play this then" he asks trying to sound like a total tyro

Bluff to sound like a novice 1d20+6=22

whoops that should be a +7 so its 23

Just going with your earlier description ;) No way Araevin's going to see through that bluff.

I think he stands a chance to win it all :) He thinks the house probably has it fixed some way behind the scenes though

He watches the new man sit down at the table on the other side of Norn. This table keeps getting better and better.

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Next 5 Rolls for gambling (1d20+4=24, 1d20+4=24, 1d20+4=21, 1d20+4=21, 1d20+4=22)

HOHO! Check that out! His bets match the next badge he needs to acquire. So starting with one gold until he gets the first badge and then moving up to 5 so on and so forth until well he wins the tournament. :)

Araevin moves over too Norn's table feeling the game he is currently at is relying a little too much on chance. Sitting down next to her he asks, "Have you won?" He carefully studies the game and the other players. The nervous blue eyed blonde boy seems like an easy mark and the red flame haired half-elven woman seems both distracted and unable to get a grasp of the game. This should be easy.

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

I'm waiting on Ross.

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Araevin watches the proceedings with interest. He is looking forward to getting on with the real action and has already seen several easily exploitable holes in Saul's logic. Looking around he notices Norn at another table raises an eyebrow slightly and then turns back to his own table buying several gold pieces worth of wood chips to begin play.

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Profession Gambler rolls. (1d20+4=5, 1d20+4=21, 1d20+4=23, 1d20+4=7, 1d20+4=10)

Heh, lost that first gold piece but do a bit better after that

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Perception to notice Norn sitting down (1d20=6)

Araevin remains intently focused on the game in front of him and is completely unaware that Norn is no longer right there with him. He buys into the game with a gold piece worth of "chips".

Perception (1d20=11)

Giving a wry smirk as she catches his last comment she leans in a little closer. "Does that mean I have to warn them that I only have half a soul to offer?" She questions with some amusement.

Vengeance is brought up short by a streak of dark-furred lightning that appears from somewhere within Araevins robes. The long ferret like creature stands up on Araevin's shoulder and chastises Vengeance for approaching to closely. Placing a calming hand on the animal, Araevin turns toward her and surmises the source of her question after a moment. "Hmmmm, your apparent lineage does raise some questions in that regard. A priest of Pharasma may be able to answer your question better than I. Unfortunately, being a part-human does have many disadvantages and a soul may be one of them." Handing the contract back to the succubi he turns to respond to Norn's sudden question leaving Vengeance under the animals unwavering gaze.....

Norn wrote:
Turning to Araevin she simply asks "So how exactly does this work then?"

....Norn can feel the attention suddenly shift from those people in the crowd around her and knows her question was the wrong one concidering her current company. In response to her question Araevin answers quietly but still in his usual calculating manner, "Well, that is a good start. Everyone who overheard you now has us as an easy mark. That may very well work to our advantage." Striding past the guards and into the main room Araevin takes in his surroundings until his eyes settle on the hanging cage. "Probably, an imp, homunculus, or the like. Not exactly my area of expertise." He begins to wander around slowly taking in the various games while seemingly being unaware of the vixens or their drinks despite their best efforts. "This one should do. Keep an eye out as we discussed while I make us some gold." Taking a free seat at the table Araevin becomes intensely focused on which cards have been played and Norn can all but hear him calculating odds in his head.

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Knowledge (arcana) and Knowledge (History) (1d20+8=15, 1d20+8=26) for what I can discern about the blot and the city itself.

"Come on Norn, Karkalla will be fine. Probably safer than we will be." Araevin looks out over the city and shivers both in revulsion at the steaming, stinking mass of humanity and excitement at the possibilities of magical knowledge, secrets, and lore that may lie within. First things first. "Norn, we have to acquire money and lodging to be able to do our research here and I have just the thing in mind." He looks up and even though the sun has long since gone down he can still make out the mysterious black blot. What secrets does it hide? "To the Gold Goblin. We should have a very good chance of making out well tonight", giving her a serious look....

...Later a the Gold Goblin after reading the contract. "Does it matter that we elves do not possess souls?", he asks in all seriousness of the faux succubi before signing the contract.

Ive also changed my campaign trait to fools for friends with Araevin being the friend (If he could have a look at the background and tell me what he thinks I would be gratefull)

Sounds great. That does sum up some of Araevin's.......more challenging characteristics :)

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Absolutely ok Norn. My back will need alot of watching :)

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

You could come into town with me Norn if your backstory has anything to do with the Mierani Forest or that region.

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

OMG!!! That is just......just.....AMAZING! I am definitely taking that (with Ross's approval of course). I can't wait to see what other goodness is in the book.

Thanks :)

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Oh sure! Put specifics for the fighter feats up there but just taunt me with the wizard one! There's a special hell for people like you.... ;) <grumble>yeah, I'm ordering it now.....<grumble>

I highly recomend this book for your campaign Ross its very helpful and detailed!

Curse you Larcifer! I'm gonna have to buy that now! ::starts looking under couch cushions for loose change::

Male Elf Level 1 Wizard

Looks like we have the group pretty much set up at this point.

Nelrem Ojen- Male Human Paladin
Araevin Raunaeril - Male Elven Wizard
Melissa Evendale - Female Human Rogue
Norn Jural - Female Gnome Druid
Vivienne 'Vengeance' Creed - Female Half-Elf Fighter

Heh, A paladin will certainly be a challenge in this law forsaken place but I bet will be a lot of fun because of it. Mel needs some more conflict in her life as she obviously hasn't had enough of it yet ;) What's that you say?! We are all doomed to have a lot more conflict in the near future. Listen, I am here simply to study ancient Thassilonian runes and a bit about Cyphermagic.....how dangerous could that be?!

Winterwalker wrote:
The Reserve HP variant will help us tons to begin with for healing, so I bet were all set.

True, true. I keep forgetting about that having never used it before.

Winterwalker wrote:
That celestial bloodline looks so nice, and I can help out with a heal on everyone once a day.

Actually, your Heavenly Fire won't help anyone except for the Druid. The rest of us are neutral. We are going to be hurting as far as healing is concerned. I would hazard to guess that what we need most is a cleric of somesort as the druid is the only other potential healer and can't cast healing spontaneously or channel energy. If your heart is set on a sorcerer however, so be it.

My 2 cents.

I am not terribly picky but since I am trying to get a handle on all these new Beta rules and whatnot I will vote against it. The lack of a concentration skill for example and the new beta specialist schools change things. If, however, your heart is set on really wanting to run it that way than so be it (I'm flexible).

Haven't heard from Lord Thasmudyan yet, wonder if we'll be needing another alternate.

Melissa wrote:
Mel wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole....

I think these two will get along very well then as he is rather aloof and has more important matters to attend too.

Melissa Evendale wrote:
My view is might as well be ready now...if I don't get into this game then I'm ready for the next one that comes up.

My thoughts exactly :)

Here he is with some basic background. Let me know what you think Ross, and what I need to change/work on and I'll get right on it.

Thanks

P.S. as to the above discussion if you can give us an idea on what your looking for as far as posting frequency than we can set the proper expectations before the game starts.
