Raising her hood to cover her face once again as the group leaves the fishery and walks quickly through the streets, warily eyeing the cities' gangs of rebellious citizens. Breathing a sight of relief when they reach their destination, Aleira follows the others into the grand house, shuffling uncomfortably in the lavish surroundings of the manor house, somewhat amazed at the wealth openly on display. She accepts both wine and food with a soft-spoken word of thanks and sits sipping from her glass and staring into the fire as the others talk. Cat, meanwhile, seems unaffected by the witch's nervousness and eagerly sniffs around the room before finding an unoccupied chair, where he begins busily cleaning himself.
Sorry for the delay - I'm slammed at work (in the final stages of a PhD and am writing up three papers simultaneously so was working all weekend).. posting may be a little sporadic but i'll try to keep up. Fortunately Aleira is a woman of few words :)
Aleira watches in satisfaction as Lamm's corpse is fed to the shark. When they discover the Shiver, she marches over and grabs it without asking, a furious look on her face. "This stuff is poison," she says, opening the vials one-by-one and tipping their contents to the floor.
Aleira watches impassively as Twilight finishes Lamb and the others free the boy. At Twilight's words she speaks up. "I have some ability to heal. If any one is still in need?"
When the other's return from Lamm's room with the remains of Madame Zellara she gasps. "Dead? But,... how?" she asks, her face grey with shock.
you also get to have one more cantrip and level 1 spell memorized, what do you choose? Also how do you spend skill points?
I show HP at 14/14 after level up.
Yep, 14 HP.
Skills will go towards: +1 to Know (local), +1 to Spellcraft, +2 to Perception, +1 to UMD and +1 to Know (arcana).
Cantrip memorised will be Read Magic, 1st level will be Sleep. Until further notice will not memorise Cure Light Wounds, instead will go with Enlarge Person
Don't have too much to think about for next level - will be taking the Misfortune Hex and gaining Mage armour and Enlarge Person as new spells (plus Ears of the city from patron).
Aleira slumps at the sudden rush of relief as her scream finishes the old man. As the others busy themselves searching the room, stripping Lamm, and lowering the suspended child she stands in place, breathing heavily. Cat moves into the room and daintily circles to Aleria, rubbing himself around her legs and mewing for attention until Aleira picks him up and stands, still in shock that she had finally bested the old man. Finally coming to herself she moves over to where Twilight stands next to the unconscious figure. Cat glowers at the cleric as she channels, but Aleria calms him and stands ready. At Twilight's invitation she steps forward.
"Do you even remember me Lamm?" she says as Cat hisses in his direction "Did you ever wonder what happened after you left me to die like so many others? Well now its your turn to know what fear tastes like."
With that she spits in the old man's face and looks up at the Calistrian. "I want nothing from the bastard. I say we feed him to the shark."
Smiling at the look of fear that fills the old man's eyes, Aleira makes a small gesture and then releases a scream of incarnate rage, inaudible to all but her target.
Ear-piercing scream:
You unleash a powerful scream, inaudible to all but a single target. The target is dazed for 1 round and takes 1d6 points of sonic damage per two caster levels (maximum 5d6). A successful save negates the daze effect and halves the damage.
Eager to close with Lamm, Aleira slips past Mirela towards him. Focusing her hatred, she focuses her gaze and mutters what sounds like a very rough expletive as she gestures at him with her dagger.
Aleira grins as the path opens up before her and ducks through the doorway, leaving Cat on its far side. Once again focusing her gaze on the crocodile she squints and makes a complicated gesture and snarls.
Impatient to join the assault on the old man who had caused her so much pain, Aleira steps forward close behind Twilight. Still unable to move into the room she bends forward and scans the room, her gaze inexorably drawn to the old man. Summoning her own hate and fear she narrows her eyes and mutters, spitting in his direction.
Hoping that Aleira can see past the others through the doorway - if not feel free to disallow this action... Evil Eye vs. To Hit on Lamm.
Hearing the commotion from inside the building, and ready to take her revenge on the old man, Aleira prepares herself to follow the others through the small door.
Don't have enough movement to get through the door - so Aleira will delay and move as far forward as possible once the others have cleared the walkway.
Hearing the unmistakable voice of Gaedren Lamb, Aleira feels a complex wave that is a mixture of both remembered fear and hatred wash over her and she scowls, suddenly eager to confront the man who was the cause of so much misery. Peering past the shoulders of the rest of the group, she prepares to move forward at the earliest opportunity.
Aleira stands at the back of the group, watching as Atticus examines the door. Holding Cat in her arms, well clear of the water, she nervously watches the circling shark. She stands silent, staring at the building's understructure for some time and then speaks.
"Seems strange to me that this'd be the only way through. - An uncomfortable path for Lamb to come very often. Surely there must be another way through?"
Is there any sign of an alternative route into the space beyond? Perception:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Aleira moves leans down to bring the purple spider into view and shifts her concentration to it, hoping to prevent more of her companions being entangled in its webs.
Hard to see where Atticus is moving to but, assuming he's moved from the position on the map,...
As Atticus moves forward, Aleira clambers onto the boat and moves to the edge of the gaping hole. Focussing on the purple spider she mutters and spits on its direction.
As the professor moves onto the boat Aleria steps forward into the place he has vacated, now reasonably certain that the boards will support her weight.
If she can see a spider from here she uses Evil Eye vs. To Hit. Otherwise, she readies an action to do it to any foe that comes into view.
Aleira gasps as the dwarf and the half-elf disappear from view as the ship's deck gives way. Nevertheless, scared that the walkway might also collapse, she remains rooted to the spot.
Wait until Atticus has moved (if he does) then move up if possible maintaining a safe distance.
Once her attention is drawn to the sounds of the explosions Aleira stands looking back at the city, her lips used and her expression worried. "I don't like this" she says to the others "the city feels,... unsettled."
The young woman remains watching the city as the others begin making their way towards the boat, before she too ventures onto the rickety walkway.
Aleira eyes the walkway warily. "That looks even worse than the one at the front - and it was about to collapse under the weight of just me and Devan. I guess he could be in the other room we haven't checked yet - but the boat seems more likely, at least if there's a way to get there. I can't see Lamm using those boards very often."
Aleira frowns. "Its probably too late to catch him," she says, bitterly "but Lamm's the one I want! We can deal with the other one if we see him again. He'd do well to stay out of our way."
Aleira, who has remained silently watching the rest of the group as they've been making their way through the dilapidated building stands a short distance back from the others as they negotiate through the door with Yargin, Cat nestled in the crook of her arm and an angry, determined look on her face.
Not going to try to retcon Aleira into the action with the children or Yargin, since too much time has passed.. In any case, Aleira is not a talkative or forthcoming person so smouldering desire for revenge is what i'll be going for... She may open up further through the course of the adventure though.
Hi All, back from visiting mum and dad (he's well - thanks for all the best wishes) - need a little time to catch up on everything and should be able to post soon.
I'm in agreement with Twilight - I'm not too fussed about making sure that the technical value of loot is evenly split if someone is well suited to a particular item.
As Nargun's strike finally ends the fight Aleira relaxes, the aura of hidden power that seemed to animate her during the battle dissolving as she follows the others into the room. "A gnome? - That's a relief." she says, I wouldn't want to hurt a child if it can be helped."
The witch ignores the weapons and merely looks around the room, mentally preparing herself for the next stage of the fight. At Twilight's words she nods. "Yes, we can't give the bastard time to run away. We should keep going."
Aleira grins evilly as the party's foes begin to drop. Focussing her gaze on the man standing at the back of the room trying to use his wand, she mutters a few words under her breath and spits in his direction.
I'm back - Dad's operation went well, though he looks like Frankenstein's monster with staples in his head - he had tubes coming out of it for a while there too but everything seems to be going well.. I'll be able to post this week, but might not on the weekend as i'm flying back to spend time with him and my mother - Thanks all for the best wishes!
Hi All. My Dad's in hospital having had a (very) minor stroke.. I may be AWOL for a few days. I'll try to keep updated but feel free to DMPC if necessary.
Aleira switches her gaze to the man in the bathrobe and concentrates once again, muttering a few words and spitting at the man as she steps back to make space for the others.
Seeing Twilight's signal Aleria, in turn signals Devan to be quiet and hides her magically lit dagger beneath her cloak, not wanting to be too obvious from the doorway.
Aleira's eyes widen in concern as the boards alarmingly creak and, when Devan tells her to move, gives a small nod and edges her way back towards the building's corner where she stands, waiting for the bard to follow, her eyes darting nervously between him and her companions at the warehouse's front door.
Aleira followed the others to the warehouse, her mind lost in the thought that she would, finally, be able to extract some measure of vengeance on Lamb and that the world would be a better place for his absence. As the each of the party moved off to their assigned tasks, she glanced at Devan and, in a whispered voice offered to provide a light so that he would have his hands free to wield the hammer. Taking out a knife, she whispered a few words and the dagger began to glow (cast light) before following him to the door as he made ready to begin his work. Cat dropped from her shoulder as they approached the door and sat back, watching the humans' strange behaviour.
Aleira shakes her head. "We probably don't have to worry too much about the children. Lamm wasn't much for giving us a place to sleep. We usually just had to find somewhere out of the cold by ourselves. The old bastard is too lazy to set decent guards or anything like that."
At Atticus' question she frowns. "I'd probably have just hidden myself away somewhere to be honest. If someone attacked Lamm's place it'd most likely be another gang or something. Certainly wouldn't have done anything to help him. If there are any Little Lamms about I think they'd probably do the same. They might help us if we convince them we're not there to hurt them but we'd have to be pretty convincing - most of 'em haven't had a lot of kindness from pretty much anyone for their whole lives."
Aleira glances over at Atticus receiving his acquiescence to the deal and then nods in agreement to the halfling. As they leave the tavern with their newly acquired possessions she turns to the investigator. "You'd best honour that deal." she says He's not one you want to cross and I don't want him coming for me..."
Sorry for delay - family visiting for the weekend.
Aleira interrupts Atticus before says too much and makes her way to the bar where she leans forward to speak to the bartender. Cat hops down from her shoulder and sits, staring at the barkeep with a somewhat disturbing, focussed stare. "I'm looking for Orrin if he's about? Me and my friend here are looking to do some business with him."
Aleria glances over at Devan and then turns to Atticus. "Such things shouldn't be too hard to find. I'd be happy to help. I wouldn't be a much use watching the place - I might well be recognised.
Does Aleira know anything about Gaedren's lair, or how/if he tends to assign guards or lookouts from her time as a 'Little Lamb'?
Me? Aleira speaks up, Well, I have some magical ability, and I know the city well, and I have experience with Gaedren. He was the one who gave me these." she says, indicating her scars. " I was once one of his 'Little Lamms'." .
After the reading she sits back in surprise. "An object or person of great beauty? Well that's not me then," she says. ..and its certainly not Gaedren! I wonder what these portents have to do with putting a stop to the vicious old bastard? I mean, he needs to be stopped, but I can't see how stopping him could have anything to do with a great destiny or travel."
"He's mine." Aleria says in reply to Mirela's query, smiling as Cat edged forward and sniffed at the other woman's hand. "I think he likes you, and he's generally a pretty good judge of people..."
She breaks off as Zellara enters and galling around at the others, speaks up. "Well, I'm Aleira and the cat, well he's just called Cat."
