Not getting any takers, Marcus elects to go himself, taking care to keep to the previously established "safe" route. Split the party!
Having no real reason to stay in the grove, Tun'ada will follow Marcus back to the lighthouse.

DM:

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 Jask Heal (success)

Day 16

You return to the lighthouse camp, to find that the other castaways are making good progress in making the place less filthy and more of a home for you all. As you get closer, you can hear laboured breathing and retching sounds coming from behind a makeshift set of curtains. Outside this tent, Jask sits by a small fire, brewing something. He smiles wearily as the three of you approach (Mawj will come along too for arguments sake) and Sasha runs over to Marcus to give him a big hug. Before long, Aerys joins you as they begin to ask what has transpired in the past few days. Aerys in particular seems worried that not all of you returned... By process of elimination you surmise that Ishorou has been quarantined by Jask.

Stick him with your sword while hes looking around! Watch out for the jaws! Aerys shouts helpfully to Marcus from her vantage point.

We have an intruder coming down the trail! Aerys shouts from her vigil in the northern watch tower.

Looks like a... Goblin? On a riding dog or... A wolf? Oh hell, not Goblins too...

Turning to help the beleagured Marcus, Aerys knocks out the wounded cannibal behind her then advances towards the javelin throwers.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
1d3 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Chi's arrow falls short of the old woman, and Ambroze begins to call out advice for fighting the raving lunatics your up against. Aerys follows up on her right hook with a high kick to the cannibals throat- and the man goes down gargling into unconciousness.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
1d3 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Aerys launches another attack on a fresh savage, hitting him with a nasty right hook that almost breaks his jaw.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
1d3 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

I would like to continue west as well. Perhaps we could form two groups?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

They... The savages were screaming in Infernal that the 'holy man' would be a sacrifice to the Red Devil, atop Red Mountain. The leader taunted Ishorou in his pidgin tongue, as Ishorou passed out the leader said that the 'flame-head will bear me many children'. He must mean Sasha...

Knowledge: Geography, or Survival checks. The Geography is a much lower DC than the Survival.

Ishorou is stable but on negative HP. You don't detect any poison.

The cannibals came in force during the rainfall... Our traps slowed them down but they tore through them and were on us before we knew it, with their shoddy scimitars and their mad ferocity... It was all chaos and i'm not sure of their numbers- perhaps a couple dozen of them.

Aerys almost breaks down into hysterics, but manages to go on between sobs and furious hand gestures.

Ishorou and I fought back to back and Sasha and her pet took down several of them- but then their leader; big bastard with bright red hair and a magical blade, duelled with Ishorou and cut him down. The... the brute reached down for Ishorou after he felled him and smeared his blood all over his chest and howled... I've never seen anything so savage in my life. We got Ishorou clear and retreated, but they took Jask and the last we saw of Sasha she was surrounded by the bastards... By the time we came back to the camp they were gone. They took their wounded with them and released our captive...

Strongly recommend you look up Heal and the rules for aiding overnight healing, as well as the Treat Deadly Wounds option.

He wandered in from the east, half-dead from exhaustion and starvation. I gave him some water, a bite to eat and a blanket.

Glancing over at the restrained savage still attempting to grab passing castaways and eat them, Aerys sighs.

Another mouth to feed. Still, at least this one talks Taldane...

The group recover all their non-lethal damage en route.

Heading back to camp with the savage fiercely resisting, gnashing his teeth and snarling at all opportunities, the group don't make particularily good time. By the time they get to camp, evening has fallen. The group are met by a relieved Ishorou.

We were in the process of organising a search party... he mutters as he helps you escort your prisoner into camp. The other castaways gather round as the savage snarls and speaks in his strange tongue.

Ishorou Linguistics-1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Gelik Linguistics-1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Aerys Linguistics-1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Sasha Linguistics-1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

There is some confusion and no one seems to be sure what he is saying. Eventually, Aerys squints at the savage and speaks up.

Its Infernal... At least, a primitive, pidgin form of it. I can barely understand what hes saying and I speak the language fluently... Hes telling us he will see us... Sacrificed to the red mountain and eaten for our... spirit?

6:30PM.

Mu... Much better thanks Gwen. The half-elf mumbles awkwardly. I'm not there yet but i... I think i'm making progress. she says, forcing a smile.

Aerys eagerly eats a handful of the berries, nodding her thanks.

Thank you... All of you... I... Will do my best to sober up, honest. Here, you might appreciate this more than me now... she says, handing James a bottle of fine brandy.

50XP each for fulfilling Aerys' quest and making her attitude helpful.

I guess I can trust you enough to read my life's work now... I have been so afraid I will perish before I get to finish them... Please make sure you treat the parchment with respect...

Mechanics-:

Aerys allows the PCs to read her unfinished epic—the Abendego Cantos are very well written and contain compelling themes of the strength of personality against incalculable odds. Anyone who reads it for 8 hours gains a permanent +1 bonus on all Will saving throws against compulsion effects.

1d100 ⇒ 27 No dusk encounter.

Having obviously partaken in some of her remaining alcohol today, Aerys nevertheless quickly reacts and slams her fist into the snake brutally.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
1d3 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7Lethal Damage.

As the group make their preparations for the day, Ambroze tries to talk to Aerys. The scholarly gnome thanks her for acting as guardian for the camp the previous day and night, and tries to find out what prompted her to make the journey to Eleder on the Jenivere.

Diplomacy check: 1d20 + 8

Well... My dearest little Am-booze... Aerys says after you have talked for a time, taking heavy swigs from her hip flask. You shee my little Gnome... I've always known that one fine day i'd have the oppre... opportwune... chance... to be cap'n... of my own ship! A woman captain, in a male-dominated indushtry! Its... its almost poetic, I tell ye Ambroooozy, heh...

Aerys takes another huge swig of alcohol, and sighs with contentment.

Shhhpeaking of poetry little misGnomer heh... I bet ye wouldn't believe that Aerys Mavato is... a master of prose and poetry! My... deepest fear is that I won't finish my masterpiece, the Abendo Cantos, now that we're stuck here on this horrid island.

Aerys squints at you and then grins lop-sidedly.

I learnt something of Tian poetry, they call it a Haiku...

Aerys stands up groggily to her feet.

I shall now give a rendition in honour of my new friend, Ambrosh!

My new friend the Gnome,
Noble, true, wise and sober,
His voice is my lullaby.

Aerys collapses next to Ambroze, almost falling on top of him.

Help me... I want to kick my drinking habit Ambroosh... Look for.. viper nettle berries...

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

Ambroze:

You've heard of viper nettle berries. Its a rare tropical plant that can help alcoholics recover and kick their habit, and is a huge help with the withdrawal symptons. The ecology of Smuggler's Shiv is an ideal place for them to grow.

Aerys sags against Ambroze, and begins to snore and drool. You notice Ishorou has been watching this whole exchange with narrowing eyes.

Diplognomancy has earnt the group another 25XP each.

Approximately 7:30AM, once the group has finished preparing spells and is ready to move. Day 2.

A note for you all but especially James as he is lootmeister- Sasha is far too spooked to fulfill her role as hunter today, so you will not be gaining any rations from her hunting. If one of you wants to go hunting and foraging, it will take four hours and require a survival check.

Having been unsuccessful in her quest to find alcohol, Aerys shrieks and begins to sob on the sands uncontrollably.

SHIPWRECKED?! Aerys screeches, before frantically searching through the remaining equipment. By Calistria, I need a drink...

The darkly blad half-elf grimaces as James asks the question of her.

Got... Business waitin'. My own ship to captain, if all goes to plan. I can see her now... A little Sloop floating in the harbour li... like a beautiful swan I says...

A bleary-eyed Aerys staggers out into the sunlight, the pretty half-elf squinting and wincing at the sunlight.

Wha... Why have we stopped? she asks out loud, as she staggers to a wooden railing, using it to keep her on her feet.
