Male Human Cavalier 2

I guess I'm set for now. I don't have the gold for "real" armor yet and going to a breastplate or something isn't really a compelling improvement for the price. I'll just keep saving until I can afford some plate.

Male Human Cavalier 2

As far as I can tell, the only thing I kept so far was the composite longbow, but that was from the first bandit encounter at Oleg's, I believe.

What sorts of armor are we able to get from Oleg, pretty much anything non-magical and non-masterwork?

Male Human Cavalier 2

Interesting. My Pathfinder book says that bracers of armor give an armor bonus, which does not stack with worn armor. I think I like yours better.

Male Human Cavalier 2

Technically, only Adriana would get any benefit from the bracers. All the rest of us are wearing armor which gives a higher armor bonus than the bracers. They don't stack with existing armor.

"So, now that they're taken care of, should we head back to Oleg's and maybe get a real night's rest and some actual meals?"

Male Human Cavalier 2

"I certainly wasn't expecting that to be part of the negotiations. See if you can find out what that was all about, if you can, Red" Acalon says quietly after the "fight" is over.

Male Human Cavalier 2

Acalon does his best to help Red convince the kobold leader, especially on the points of peaceful coexistence and mutual protection.

Diplomacy (Aid Another): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Male Human Cavalier 2

Even Acalon seems less sure of his previous comments surrounded by this many kobolds. He says quietly "I had no idea there would be so many down here..."

Male Human Cavalier 2

Acalon dismounts and says, quietly, "As long as we're not planning on betraying their trust and slaughtering them after we make our deal, I see no problem with going in. They certainly seem more interested in getting the idol back than trying to kill us and take it." With that, he ties up Shade and waits for the procession to head off down the mine.

Male Human Cavalier 2

"You might also want to refrain from addressing them as 'the vermin' while we're talking with them. Perhaps one of you who can speak their language can act as our spokesman in this?"

Male Human Cavalier 2

Abshail reaches inside his coat for his tools and begins working on opening the lock on the manacles. "I agree, there's not much point to keeping him chained up, it frees us from having to care for him and gives us another set of hands."

Pausing for a second he adds "We may want to all make the trip. We don't have a lot in the way of supplies here and no shelter at all. If we go investigate, we can also use the wreckage as shelter if we need to."

Male Human Cavalier 2

Once everyone is awake and washed and back in camp Acalon says "So, are we ready to go visit the kobolds and barter the idol for their assistance, or at least to ensure continued peace between them and other settlers in the area?"

Male Human Cavalier 2

After finally dragging himself awake, Acalon first takes inventory of his new scars from the previous evening. He then goes to make sure the horses are fed and watered. That accomplished, he sits down with his armor to determine just how badly damaged it is.

Male Human Cavalier 2

Acalon shrugs and replies to Cael "I'm not feeling too bad, we can split the watch so we can both get a bit of rest, if you want."

Male Human Cavalier 2

"Let's at least get out of this cave and see about getting what rest we can. After that we can deal with the kobolds and their idol."

Male Human Cavalier 2

I did my roll over in the Discussion thread. Got a 2, for a total of 10 new HP. 23 HP total now.

Male Human Cavalier 2

Woo, level up time.

HP:1d5 ⇒ 2

My stats are all updated. I'm still working on the mount stuff, PCGen seems to get confused with the companion stats, so it's taking longer.

Male Human Cavalier 2

Still bleeding slightly, Acalon checks his armor out again. "Well, I've been better. I've also been worse, though, so I guess things are OK. I wonder if Oleg can get his hands on something a little sturdier than this scale mail. I'll need to ask when we get back."

Male Human Cavalier 2

Taking advantage of Adriana's distraction, Acalon levels another swing at the mite chief.

To Hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Maybe that will land with the Aid Another bonus...

Male Human Cavalier 2

"I'll take donations for a new suit when we're back at Oleg's."

The tick down, Acalon now moves to smash the rider.

To Hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

OK, that probably won't hit. I can hope, though!

Male Human Cavalier 2

Woo, leaking blood again!

Acalon staggers back from the tick's bite, grits his teeth and aims to strike the monster's head.

To hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Well nuts.

Male Human Cavalier 2

As Cain's wave of healing hits, Acalon's leaking blood appears to have almost completely stopped. Sparing a look back to ensure he doesn't accidentally smash Adriana, he winds up another swing at the tick.

To Hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Male Human Cavalier 2

Despite his surprise at Adriana's ability to heal, Acalon manages to block the tick's attack and launches his own at the monster.

To Hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Male Human Cavalier 2

Despite his wounds, Acalon manages to stay up and level another swing at the tick.

To Hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Male Human Cavalier 2

Will save:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Will save:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Ouch. This isn't going to be good....

Male Human Cavalier 2

Quickly surveying the field (or cave, as it were), Acalon charges and swings at the gigantic tick.

To hit:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Damage:1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Yeah, OK, the damage roll probably isn't necessary. Just in case the thing's AC really sucks, though....

Male Human Cavalier 2

Acalon calmly wipes the monster goo from his face and puts his shield away again. Heading back over to the root bridge he says "Only one way to find out what's over there. Might as well get crossing. Again."

Male Human Cavalier 2

As Acalon ducks under the beast's jaws he ignores Red's yelling and pulls out his shield and flail, ready to attack the monster.

Male Human Cavalier 2

Perhaps against better judgment, Acalon decides to try going back to the ledge to help fight.

Climb: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18

Male Human Cavalier 2

More climb checks? I'm screwed. Time to start looking for what I'm going to replace the poor dead cavalier with.... ;)

Ok, so what is it?

As the initiative order states, it is Evil Thing. Judging by the marker on the map it's a Large centipede, which is certainly pretty evil.

Male Human Cavalier 2

Acalon throws his shield across his back and puts away his flail, then heads to the chasm's edge to cross. "Let's get going. We wouldn't want to keep the mites waiting to spring their next trap on us."

I'm guessing crossing this takes something like a climb check. As I understand the rules, if I don't have the shield equipped I don't take it's armor check penalty. If that's not the case, subtract another 2 from the roll.

Climb: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9

Male Human Cavalier 2

On seeing the chasm and the route across, Acalon grumbles a few curses. He then reaches for some of the roots to gauge their strength. "Hopefully these are strong enough to hold us while we cross."

Male Human Cavalier 2

Acalon begins to head out down the tunnel, then stops as Cain asks more questions of the kobold. He waits until they are done, then heads out again.

Our house exploded in games. Came back with 11 of them total from gradpa's. Including everything from Puerto Rico and Ticket to Ride, to Pokemon yatzee and a Scooby Do mystery game. :) Aside from that it was the usual Pokemon, Super Heroes, and Princesses. :)

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Mmm, Ticket to Ride. Such a fun game, it's a shame none of my friends around here are interested in real board games like that or Settlers of Catan or Carcassonne.

Male Human Cavalier 2

Acalon nods at Red "At the very least we can use what this kobold knows to get what we want from the mites." Looking to Cael he adds "As for this one, I don't think he's capable of picking up a weapon, much less doing any meaningful harm to you in this condition."

Male Human Cavalier 2

Acalon turns to his right and levels a swing at the next mite.

To hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Male Human Cavalier 2

Acalon turns and takes a swing at the mite behind him.

The one above Cael, to stop them from flanking me

To hit: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 2 = 15 includes +2 from Cain's Inspiring Word
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Male Human Cavalier 2

I'll throw my action in here to avoid potential "I'm delaying" posts, since I am kinda in the way.

Acalon winds up the best he can in the tunnels and takes a swing at the closest mite.

The one that attacked him, in case 2 are equally close

To hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Male Human Cavalier 2

Woo, will saves for the fighter-type!

Will save 1: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Will save 2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

Male Human Cavalier 2

"I don't see any good way to surprise them if they're waiting for us. We might as well go and get things started. You all don't even need to come down right away if you don't want to, your spells and arrows should reach down just fine."

That said, Acalon heads to the edge and gets ready to climb down.

Male Human Cavalier 2

"Well, we don't really have much choice. We could turn around and go back and hope we can come around behind them, or we go down the hole where they seem to be expecting us." Acalon stops and gauges the depth of the shaft again. "That's probably a little far to just jump, that would give them a surprise, I'd bet."

Male Human Cavalier 2

Acalon heads over to investigate the shaft down, looking to determine how far down it goes and if there are handholds to climb down.

Male Human Cavalier 2

Acalon thanks Cain for the light, then proceeds to follow Edi down the tunnel.

Male Human Cavalier 2

"So, about 40 feet before the falling and dying starts. Got it," Acalon says before heading into the hole. Halfway in he stops and asks "Could I get one of those light spells up here at the front of the line as well?"

Climb: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (19) - 3 = 16

Not bad, maybe I won't fall and die after all.

Male Human Cavalier 2

Acalon looks at the hole, then back at everyone else, then back at the hole again before saying "Well, I'm not sure how much there is to know about such things. You squeeze into a tiny passage, crawl for a while, then fall to your death as the ground drops away from you. I'll go first if we decide to do this, though."

Male Human Cavalier 2

While Red and Cael head towards the tree, Acalon heads over to put on his armor. When finished, he picks up his shield and flail and joins the others in any investigating still going on.

Male Human Cavalier 2

After the enemies run off Acalon shrugs off his shield (still not properly readied) and sets down his flail, looking at the carnage left on its head and on the ground. "So that's a mite, eh? I suppose I can see why those little fey creatures would be scared of them." He begins searching the dead mites for anything of interest. Looking at Red he says "Wouldn't that just be our luck? The creepy tree turns out to be home to killer mites. If so, though, you'd think there'd be more signs of them around and maybe some notable entrance."

Male Human Cavalier 2

Quickly surveying the situation, Acalon moves to attack one of the mites flanking Adriana.

To hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Assuming things didn't move too much from the map you gave us before I should be able to move to attack one of them without provoking movement-related AoOs.

Male Human Cavalier 2
Atapax wrote:
Good swings. 2 things. I'm not assuming that you actually readied your shields this round, just that you have them in hand, as doing so is a move action that provokes an AoO.

That's about what I was expecting, really. I figured there was more to equipping a shield properly than just picking it up, but I also didn't want to just ignore having it around completely.

Male Human Cavalier 2

As the dagger stabs him, Acalon rolls, grabs his flail and shield and stands up. Giving the flail a quick swing, he aims at the creature that attacked him.

To hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
